After passing by the restaurant so many times, we finally ordered delivery. It had great reviews and nearby, so it was quick. I liked they actually had combo specials, which seems to be increasingly harder to find in the city from quality Chinese restaurants. Flavors were spot on and I appreciated the General Tso's Chicken and Orange Chicken were slightly breaded and actual chicken chunks, while the Beef Lo Mein was not greasy. The Shrimp with Lobster Sauce was light in flavor and was more like a soup, but my fault for not realizing before ordering it. Plenty of selections, so I'm sure I'll order again! read more

Very good Chinese restaurant that's mostly takeout but with a few tables. Highly recommended. Our food was fresh and good quality. I saw a lot of people picking up for takeout and delivery. For Ma's bday we had a spot in mind. A very nice sit-down in the city. But being a school night with wee kids in tow, we decided to stick local. We didn't know much about Wonder chop beyond the stellar reviews. Had I scoped photos prior and realized it's mainly a carryout I wouldn't have dined in. Because, it's a very casual spot and lacks in ability to serve dine-in customers & it isn't comfortable for a long dining sesh. But, we called and notified them of our arrival. Because we had more than ten, they suggested we pre-order in advance. I put in a few appetizers only but in retrospect should have done as they requested. What I didn't realize, because they're mainly takeout, they don't have as many people working the counter. So, between orders, there's much time where we're just sitting and waiting on any food to emerge from the kitchen. Thankfully they prepared dishes in waves. They didn't bring out dishes one-by-one but would bring rice dishes with entrees so that everyone could dine together. That night was busy for them. They were still able to attend to the many carryout orders placed. Which were constant through the night. Food is fresh, tasty & excellent. Some well known staples like General Tso's should definitely be ordered if you appreciate that entree. We asked if rice dishes could be made spicier which they obliged. Large shrimps in the shrimp fried rice and overall presentation of food was appetizing. Some of our attendees thanked for a good time and saved the restaurant details for future carryout orders. I'm thankful that on short notice they could swing taking care of our group. Don't sleep on this casual Chinese restaurant. Worth a try. read more

Better than expected. It didn't seem like this place would be that good, but even for being a crappy looking place it was quite a find. Wonder Chop is one of the cheapest places to eat in Bucktown, or wherever. Okay prices on most items so it's pretty cheap. The area is kind of sketchy but not that bad for sure. Americanized Chinese yes, but it's good for what it is. It has a pretty standard menu. There's the basic type of stuff. It's about $9 for an entree. There's mostly beef and chicken, but some things for vegetarians. I picked up the Bean Curd Szechuan Style for carryout. The soft tofu wasn't the kind I prefer, but it tasted good in the hot sauce. Had some good flavor. There were also carrots and onions. Good place for cheap Chinese American food. It's a lot better than it looks. They still haven't reopened the dining room so it's only takeout. read more

Went to Wonder Chop based on the reviews prior to heading to the Stan Mansion for a show with my wife. There was only one other table occupied when we arrived around 5 pm. The Hot and Sour soup was bland - not spicy enough for me. My wife was equally unimpressed with the Egg Drop soup. I followed that up with the Bean Curd Szechuan Style dish. The bean curd was very soft and served on a plate with what looked like brown sauce. The menu indicated this was a spicy dish, but it really wasn't. It tasted more like soft bean curd served with an abundance of flat American brown gravy. I had to leave half of the dish behind. My wife had a pad-thai-style dish. Equally not impressed. I don't understand why this has such high ratings. Will not be returning. read more

Reasonably priced and delicious is how I would describe Wonder Chop for Chinese food. You can dine in at the immaculate dining room or order carry out. We were seated and served quickly while some soft contemporary piano music filled the air...it was just right. Our food choices came fast. Everything was as fresh as can be and served by who appears to be the owner. A charming lady who is soft spoken, all smiles and takes an interest in your dining experience. The food is carefully prepared and they serve the more traditional Chinese menu items such as home made Egg Phoo Yong, and crispy Egg Rolls served hot and fresh. They offer a wide selection of meat + vegetarian choices and you can add a little more spice if that's what you like. Honestly, we're foodies... we know what we want and searched around for a good clean simple Chinese restaurant. We mostly found fusion choices that although they were good, they just didn't fit. We ate in, which is apparently rare. I think takeout is their main thing. The server was exceptionally nice. The food was good, but not exactly what I was expecting. I like my hot and sour a certain way, and while this was very good, not lacking in flavor, and did have lots of mushrooms and other goodies in it, the flavor wasn't exactly what I was looking for. My girlfriend really liked it, so this is just a preference. You can tell it's high quality soup, so it's worth a shot. The flat noodles were pretty good. A little oily as big flat noodles tend to be, but not bad, I'd get them again. The general tso's was good but again, not traditional tso's. Little or no breading and the sauce wasn't that typical very sweet sticky sauce that I like. It was good, and very likely more healthy than typical tso's, but again not that traditional flavor I was looking for. read more

Best General Tso's I've had in a while. Moist and tender all white meat that wasn't overly breaded or fried, and the sauce wasn't overly sweet like many other places. love love love this place. I have gotten takeout from here multiple times and the woman who is in there when I pick up my order couldn't be sweeter!! Their egg rolls are PHENOMENAL and I don't even really like egg rolls that much. I have tried a couple of noodle dishes and a couple chicken dishes and I really enjoy both. Ordered takeout tonight. The woman on the phone who took my order was very kind and patient with questions. When we picked up the order, she was incredibly kind and thanked us for our business. The customer experience was 5/5. The food was actually fantastic. I ordered orange chicken (spicy) and it was some of the best I've had in a while. The chicken was lightly breaded, fried perfectly, and all white meat chicken. I ordered a single portion and it was enough to feed 2 people. I've lived near this restaurant for two years and just tried it, I will definitely be returning to try their other menu items. I ordered the vegetarian chop suey along with veggie fried rice and a spring roll and all were delightful. The chop suey could have had a little more sauce BUT it was still very tasty. It was finally ready at 725pm. They didn't apologize, say they are sorry, or offer any discounts. We ordered sweet and sour chicken but there weren't any veggies. Wonder Chop has great Chinese food! It's fresh and flavorful, and not drowned in oil and sauce like so many other places do. You can really tell they know what they're doing and take pride in serving quality food! Also, the portion sizes are very good and they don't skimp on the protein. Another great thing is that they actually read the notes on takeout and delivery orders, so if you ask for no bell peppers or mild spiciness, for example, your food will actually be made that way. Wonder chop = Wonderful. We live right down the street about less than a 10 minute walk. Thought we'd go check out the lunch special and guess we found a lunch spot for our Wednesday work from home days. Great options for lunch rather you want sushi or Chinese or both! We opt in for sushi this time around. 3 rolls for $10 + miso soup, what a steal! Especially, when the fish to rice ratio on the maki rolls are perfect. To be honest, I didn't think I was going to get full from 3 rolls but I did. Next time, we would have to check out the Chinese lunch special. Waiter was really friendly & accommodating to make modification to my order since I didn't want cucumber as well. Lost of 1 star due to the wait time for the food to come. A quick lunch turned into a full hour of lunch probably because it was lunch time and they had all these to go orders. So we kept that in mind that if we were to order out, it might be more ideal to order in advance so it doesn't cut into going over our lunch time. read more
