As always a perfect night at Delmonico's with my Sandra. Steak and oysters is what I was in the mood for and they did not disappoint. Oysters were plump and flavorful and the steak was spot on. Tender and juicy. There was a small problem with Sandra's seafood primavera but it was corrected immediately by the very helpful and courteous staff. The place is a gold mine. My first time being here and it was a great experience. From the staff greeting me , to the service at the bar and at my table. They were attentive to our orders and provided water as we sat. Our waitress asked if we needed anything at any time including other staff walking passed our table. The food came out hot and delicious and our dessert was amazing. After driving by this place for a few months I tried it and a had a great meal. The service was outstanding, our waitress Ashley was very attentive and the owner came by numerous times to check on us. We had oysters, tuna, clams, steaks, and cheesecake, everything was very good. They have a very diverse menu, looking forward to trying more of the food. For the COVID obsessed, the seats were all distanced and all the wait staff all had masks. Restaurant workers are all masked up but so many customers came in without masks and they continued to bring them into the building. No respect for paying customers. They allowed people to walk around freely around food and drinks without masks and felt incredibly vulnerable and unsafe. I would expect an established restaurant to at least care about the health guidance to tell people to wear a mask to walk before coming around food. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I will never be back to this place again. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. They tried to deceive us on purpose. When choosing a steakhouse to go to, we chose del monicos because it had great reviews and because it was a Monday when most places are closed. I expected so much more from this place. We came in and there was no one to great us or ask us how many people we needed seating for. So we awkwardly wondered around the dining room until a young woman asked us how many and told us to seat ourselves. So we did. When she asked us what drinks we wanted to order, I asked her if there were any happy hour special and she said it was only for the bar and patio area. So I asked if we can go up and grab a drink from the bar and bring it back and she said she's not sure. I then proceeded to get up and go to the bar and she said it's fine we can have the happy hour special at our table. The steaks were pricey with a 16oz strip being $32 and it didn't even include a side except a small house salad. The waitress said all our sides are a la carte. Regular mashed potatoes were an extra $5. A little ridiculous if you ask me. We proceeded to order 3 steaks, all three medium. My moms steak came out medium rare. My steak was more medium and my dads steak was tough as a rock, well done. We sent it back and it took about 15 minutes for us to get another one. Meanwhile his mashed potatoes got cold. At this time the waitress avoided our table like the plaque. Didn't even ask us if everything came out alright or if everything was good. She was focused on her other tables. Once the check came I calculated the subtotal just to double check and even though the check had the correct items and prices the subtotal didn't match up. It was a $3 difference which is exactly the difference between the regular price and the happy hour price. They wrote the happy hour special for the cosmo my mom got but added blue cheese and balsamic to our garlic shrimp and her cosmo to make up the $3 difference without actually stating it on the receipt. I pointed out the discrepancy in the subtotal and the receipt and she said that's weird. She comes out a minute later and told us when she rang it up again and the price miraculous changed. YEAH RIGHT. She knew exactly what she was doing! That's why she received a poor tip. She brought the new receipt and the blue cheese and balsamic dressing were miraculously deleted now. Never in my life have I ever seen such a thing. SO SLY and just a terrible thing to do after I'm spending almost $160 on a meal. I attached pictures. After sending the steak back for being well done instead of medium and paying around $40 for the steak and a side, I was expecting the manager to come out and give us at least a free dessert as an apology for their mistake but no. Not one person said I'm sorry we messed up for the steak and the price discrepancy. I will never be back. ID GIVE THEM ZERO STARS IF I COULD. Came here for valentines day and I have to say that it was very good. A little tight but being a holiday it could have been worse. The serv9ce was very good, did not have to ask for water refills as they were filling it up as we drank away. Very friendly staff. The only downside I had with the place was that to exit, you have to go through the doors by the bar which means there will be smokers outside the door even though there is a sign no smoking. They really have to enforce that as I walked through a cloud of smoke just going to the car. Had my kids been with us, I would have had to say something. The waiter said we would get 5 pieces of shrimp but when it arrived (brought out by someone else wearing a dirty/stained shirt) there were only 3. We didn't like it so we didn't mind. The salad was ok but way to much vinegar. We ordered the Del Monico steak and the tuna trio as the main course and needless to say, that was disappointing too. The steak tasted like it was cooked in the microwave and the accompanying asparagus was over cooked. The tuna trio was comprised of tiny sashimi pieces of (what looked like) day old tuna. As for the place - The utensils were dated and looked dirty. The wine glass was dirty. The napkins looked like they had been washed too many times. The place overall seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in days. The music was depressing (Italian, not happy or romantic-- Coldplay. Which in other situations may have been fine, but not during lunch with my sweetheart). To add insult to injury, the waiter walked around with his server notebook tucked in his pants - (not his back pocket, not under his belt! Like between his pants and his backside!) This was my first time here. It was a Saturday at 12:30pm. The lone entrance is in the back. I was the only customer during my stay. They definitely have outdoor dining since that's where the majority of tables are. Indoor consists of the bar area and a few bar tables and 12 televisions from wall to wall. I ordered the Egg Noodles with Spice Pork dish. I enjoyed my meal while listening to pop hits and watching just about everything on all those tvs. I also had bread and a house salad which came with my purchase. I usually don't comment on the bread but this was extraordinarily tasty. I'm not a fan of salad in general so I was really pleased with how this one was prepared. Since my husband discovered this gem of a restaurant two years ago, we've dined here many times and it's become our absolute favorite restaurant. From the bread and sauces you are served upon sitting down to the appetizers, cocktails, surf-n-turf, and pasta, everything is delicious. We've never waited for a table. They took a 8-person reservation + 2 infants with 4 hours notice on Easter afternoon and everything was ready when we got there. Owner/manager dude is super cool. The drinks and appetizers came out in a timely manner. We ordered the French Onion soup and shrimp with garlic which were fabulous. Another great find by my brother! So in our group we had a couple of birthdays, we decided to celebrate on back to back Saturdays. My bro picked Del Monico to take our one friend out. Before I get to the juicy parts, guess I'm blind as a bat, but I drove right past this place even though it's right on Rt.23/Pompton Avenue. Had to u-turn back, but apparently the couple at the table next to us did the same. So three blind dudes in total. (maybe a bigger signage would help, haha) I'll break this down a bit.. 1. Parking: They have a nice lot in the back of this restaurant, and perhaps some spots in nearby side streets. So parking is not an issue. 2. Ambience: Very nice, some Asian themes, cool decor, definitely puts you in a good mood. The seating seems a bit limited, but cozy is the word, my friend. 3. Host/manager: Outstanding. This guy Brandon was great right off the bat, greeted everyone warmly and directed us quickly to the table where my bro/SIL was sitting at. All throughout the evening, he stopped by the table frequently to check up on the food, service, if we needed more drinks, etc. This guy is top notch. 4. Service: Outstanding. The management got it right, trained these servers exceptionally, and it showed. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the food. His recommendations were spot on. Never had an empty glass! (maybe just once... I was thirsty, so?) 5. Food: Excellent. Our appetizers were great, had the raw bar combo platter which was great, along with quite a few other items. The seafood gumbo was good. Three of us had the 22oz. del monico steak, and here's the minor gripe I had... We asked for medium-rare and all three came out more cooked than we'd like. Now, don't get me wrong, somebody's medium-rare might be another's medium. In my opinion, it was a bit "over-cooked", BUT, the saving grace was that it was a great cut of steak. I mean great cut, don't know if they dry-aged or wet-aged, whatever, but it was very flavorful and tender, even the "over-cooked" part was tender as well. (Btw, I don't want to be that guy, and I'm not beating them up over it really, so I used the quotation marks) 6. Overall impression: Excellent. NOT ONE CAME OUT COOKED PROPERLY. NOT ONE???? The flash frozen then nuked sides were inedible. What tided us over when ALL of our steaks were sent back were the little round rolls and dipping sauces. Yummy. Just what I imagined when we planned our annual Christmas dinner out with the girls. No need to get into the details as to how horrible the steaks were. And the replacements??? Who is hungry at this point!!! The end result did not bring us tidings of good cheer. We were not charged for the meals (great since none of us ate one) just the horrible appetizers and drinks. But to waste our entire evening, that once a year holiday get together was ruined. Nary a manager, owner or restaurant representative even attempted to resolve the situation, or apologize for the whole dreadful experience. If the restaurant was packed with Christmas parties and a Saturday night crowd, and there were mix-ups in the kitchen, it would be somewhat understandable. But again, seeing the empty tables at the beginning of this ordeal should have been my first clue that all was not right. And to put it all on a waitress to apologize ad nauseum, was totally unacceptable and unprofessional. The restaurant business is very competitive. The choices are infinitesimal. And they exceeded our expectations. We made a reservation and were sat as soon as we arrived. On a 90 degree day it shouldn't feel hotter inside than it is outside that's absurd. But I'll give them a pass because we ended up just sitting outside and the breeze was just what the doctor ordered for our group of 5. Ate here tonight, service is very attentive, the menu is huge and everything we had was excellent. The Del Monico steak (a ribeye) is one of the most flavorful steaks I've had even without a sauce. Better than a lot of the more expensive steakhouses I've been to. It is a small cut though, worth ordering the larger size. There's a lot of small touches at this place that we liked. The bread comes with several sauces for dipping, one of which is a delicious garlic sauce. My New England clam chowder came with melted cheese bread wedges. There's also a huge drinks menu with a lot of non-traditional options you won't find elsewhere. We had the St. Germaine Sangria and Key Lime Pie martini, which were both amazing. Went here on a Saturday night with another couple. Got there around 6:30 and got the last open table. We were seated right away and were close to the bar area. Pretty cold and drafty when the door opens, not too pleasant when its snowing. Pretty decent menu and the prices were reasonable for both food and liquor. We started with the garlic shrimp and crab wonton appetizers. The garlic shrimp was good. Plenty of sauce and nice flavor. The crab wontons were not that good. All wonton, no flavor and a slither of crab inside. Next came the house salad. I don't like parmigiano reggiano cheese, so I asked the runner to bring me one without. 10 minutes goes by and I asked where my salad was and he said they were backed up. For a salad I asked? That all being said, it was good. I ordered the Delmonico steak special medium rare and it was medium well. Not horrible for me, but definitely not ideal. Steak didn't have any flavor although the onions were done nicely. My wife ordered the filet medium well. It came out well done, so it was sent back. The next filet came out and it was seared on the outside and not really cooked on the inside. She cut into it and the waiter said "oh no" as it was pretty raw. Since the rest of us were done with our dinners, my wife kept it. She said it was ok, but was disappointed. Her vegetables were good. The other couple got a seafood primavera (good) & pork chops (on the dry side). Not that its about money, but they didn't even offer a free cup of coffee given their mishaps. It's the principle and small gestures are appreciated when a restaurant acknowledges their subpar performance. Also, we found it weird that all of the employees were so young and inexperienced and that there wasn't a manager checking on customers. The hostess also tends bar. I am a server my self and if i do say myself I would rate myself a 10 and it was nice to finally be in a restuarant to see servers like me who deliver extraordinary customer service. I ate at the bar here last week during happy hour. The things I liked about Del Monicos were 1) the service was friendly, courteous and attentive, 2) the atmosphere was casual and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The things that I didn't like were 1) I ordered the porterhouse steak medium rare cooked with their "traditional char" which is one of the options on their menu. You can see what I received in my posted picture. The steak was only cooked medium and there was zero char. It wasn't even seared properly. I've eaten in several high-end chop houses over the years and I wouldn't hold Del Monicos to those standards but I must hold them to some standard given how much they charge which leads me to......2) they charged $34 for their porterhouse which is a price point where I'd expect more care in the cooking. If it was priced in the low $20s then I would've probably just thought "what can I expect for a $20 porterhouse" but $34 signals a little more quality which I didn't get. I was so hungry I didn't want to send it back and just ate it. It didn't taste awful but it could've been a lot better and definitely not what I expected. Overall, would I go back? Not sure. Would I order a steak from them again if I did go back? Not a chance. read more

It was bland, and tasted like it came out of a can (scratch that, I actually like Chunky Soup better). Visited this new restaurant for the first time this month after a friend gave it a good verbal lunch review. We went on a Wed. night at 8 and had to wait 45 minutes (they said "about 15 minutes"). Half the tables are reservations. More tables for 2 than 4 (our party). All staffers seemed to be doing double duty (bartender serving meals, hostess doing table setups etc.) This a new place from Bobby Wong and owner James "Tony Soprano" Gandolfini. A nice bar with a bunch of TVs without sound (and an odd animated goo go dancer screen in the center) I wish had caught Happy Hour (Thursday - Saturday $2 & 3 drafts, some $4 drinks and a $4 "small plate" of items like fried calamari) It has a nice design, marble and upholstered walls - but it's essentially the same as the ribs place that was its former tenant. We tried 3 appetizers which were okay, not special and served only minutes before the entrees were served. (Too much wine in the onion soup.) We ordered a delmonico steak (fatty and not great), pasta (too al dente) and ribs (small and nothing special). The menu is eclectic - a mix of steak and things like a pu pu platter, crab roll, General Taos chicken (from Wong's Taos restaurant menu). It wastoo cool to use the outside seating but there was a little table with a built in fire pit and a fireplace (not in use). I heard they plan to extend that area next spring. I went here for the first time tonight after googling top steakhouses in NJ and this one received a 27 on Zagat for Food. I was also drawn to this restaurant because it was supposed to be a blend of Italian and Asian cuisine, very ambitious task. Sesame Chicken next to Chicken Franchese intrigued me on the menu. Overall, good restaurant. I had the sushi special which they had previously and brought back. I have to say I might have discovered why they took it off in the first place. It was spicy tuna sushi with cucumber. First off, sushi should not have too much rice. There was a very minuscule amount of spicy tuna with a considerably sized piece of cucumber. The fact that the soy sauce came in a small ramiken so none of the sushi pieces could fit into it, meaning unfortunately my sushi always had just a dabble of soy sauce. Being that I identified the restaurant for being a steakhouse, I did get to try some of the NY strip which blew the sushi out of the park. Del Monico's definitely knows how to do steak. We started off with the Clams Casino, which I was not particularly a fan of. I cannot say I have ordered Clams Casino many times before, but this does not make it towards the top of my list. I had 2 clams and there was a sour taste that overpowered the bacon/clam flavor which I could not get over. I must be fair and talk about the pros with this restaurant. Good customer service. Friendly, knowledgable waitress. Manager was regularly checking up on tables and even help reminded me about fulfilling my special dessert request from my Opentable.com reservation comment. I did love the Chocolate Lava Cake dessert. Great display. I left the place on a great note because of the dessert and the Manager was very caring about the service that we were receiving. I learned from him that the restaurant is part of a family owned Village Restaurant Group which has other restaurants either Italian or Asian, like Taos, Village Gourmet, and Tina Louise.
