A really cute brunch spot in Alexandria! I stopped by at about 11:30am on a Saturday and had no trouble getting a table. It's a small but cozy place and the decor makes it feel very homey. Atmosphere is very cute; little bit of a farmhouse feel with the wood accented ceiling and beams, and then the big wood picnic table and the gingham napkins. I could have used maybe another slice of Canadian bacon. The eggs were poached slightly longer than usual which I enjoyed a lot. I actually don't like super runny eggs on my Benny. The Hollandaise was really good. Light and lemony! I asked for extra, they added onto the sandwich, but it happened to be JUST enough. I personally love Hollandaise and would have liked probably double extra. Pork Belly stuffed with Chorizo Sausage 10/10 Pork belly was cooked so great, very tender and flavorful. Chorizo was salty, tender, and also cooked great. Truffle Polenta was kinda plain to me and not truffley, but Kyle says it was flavorful. Texture is similar to grits. I did not get the hype of this place. Yes it's in a cute old house turned restaurant. But food - I wasn't all that impressed. I got lobster Benedict, it was cold. My husband got chicken Milanese and was content with his food. The fries were wayyyyyy too oily and cold. Drinks I felt like we're a bit pricey but then again you're in Alexandria so what do you expect. The staff was very sweet and I think that made things a little better?! I stopped in here to see my Aunt and Uncle who were only briefly in the area. We walked in five minutes after opening on a Sunday and it was filling up quick. I was a little surprised at how many staff they had. The place is fairly small but they had probably 15 employees and managers running around all dressed up nice and they were all very friendly. By the time we ordered it was nearly full and it wasn't even after church! Service was excellent, everything was immaculately clean, coffee was hot and the breakfast was very good. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I ordered a side of Scrapple (Capital S because I love Scrapple) and asked for it to be fried crispy but it came out mushy and lukewarm. I will return and give it another shot and an update. But it's definetly worth checking out. read more

The waiting was terrible considering that we had called in two months for reservation. We were promised a first floor dining place but we still ended up on the second floor 35 minutes past our reservation time. Food was good, nothing exceptional. Maybe on a different circumstance, when the mood is right, sometimes food tastes better. But the company was great. Three stars. Will I return? maybe. Del Ray Cafe is a great spot in the neighborhood where you can have brunch or a drink with friends. I do think that the service in the backyard is a little off and the price is a hair too pricy. Nonetheless, I do think that they do a good job of blending French and American flavors. Food: We got the Crêpe (4/5) and the Pork Belly (4/5) which I thought were both solid. Again, just a hair too pricy but I'm expecting that this will be the trend in the Del Ray Area. Service: 3/5 Service was a bit too off for me. I dragged my poor dude to this place since I've been so curious to try their menu. In short, it was good. If overpriced. We ordered french onion soup, the snails and mussels to share. The soup was delicious, I really could have just had that and their excellent bread and been happy. The snails were...well, they were garlicky and buttery and faintly earthy but it wasn't anything world shaking. It wasn't even amazing. It was alright. I wanted a lemon or something bright to cut the intense garlic butter. But the snails were tender, so there's that I guess. We were underwhelmed. The mussels were lovely and was plenty for two people. The broth was saffron-y and delicious, the mussels were small and tender, the frites were perfectly salted and the mayo...was not homemade. Too bad. It was a reasonable dinner, the atmosphere was meh - we were seated in the plastic sheeted patio. I think they could make the patio a lot prettier and less like the loser overflow seating. But I liked having the patio to ourselves so that worked out. In all, I'm glad to check this off my to try list, but probably won't come back. A solid brunch spot in Alexandria. The first time I visited here, it was during the weekend and the place was packed early on and service was slow. The second time I visited, it was on a weekday around 11am. There's definitely a difference in experience depending on when you go! Keeping all that in mind, go into this place with patience and kindness for the staff. Food wise, I got a strawberry crepe (generously filled with nutella) with an egg and sausage on the side, and my friend ordered an eggs benedict dish (forgot which one!) and french onion soup. The only underwhelming part of the meal was the coffee-- they don't have any fancy coffee options here and the latte tasted just okay. Also, their sides are a bit overpriced. Other than that though, my friend and I were happy with our meals and the service. Again, I think service probably slows down a lot during the weekend with more guests. So either go early or make a reservation to give yourself some peace of mind! This is a really cute local spot that feels homey and cozy, definitely worth a visit. read more

Used to love this place. But did not have a good experience last night. Made Mother's Day reservations for the porch. When I made the reservation I specified that my mother only wanted to sit on the porch and if not available we would try for another day or time. Not only made the reservation but confirmed it day of. Then I get a call 6 pm while we were all en route to the restaurant that our table was given to someone else. My mom only wanted to eat on the porch. I asked if we could have a drink and then sit at the table when the other group left. I was told yes. Hostess never came back to us. The management made no effort to fix the situation or even address it. Two entrees come out incorrect. My niece ordered the crab claws and she got shrimp. I ordered duck and got scallops. We ate what we were served because the kids were tired. It was super loud upstairs and impossible to hear. This place used to be a favorite but I can't expect I'll Be going back. read more

We have been going to Del Ray Cafe since they opened--before, during, and after the pandemic--and have never been disappointed in food or service. Wait staff always seem glad to welcome us back, and are attentive and friendly. As for the food...one would have to go far to find its equal in the DMV. Seldom can you find a neighborhood restaurant (with a casual ambiance) that would be at home with the finest and fanciest in the area. We have moved from Del Ray to Old Town to Maryland, but we are still coming back, and will continue to do so. (Souffles are a must!) read more

We had a great experience there last night. It's our neighborhood place so every once in a while we either have dinner or lunch there. The food never disappoints. The appetizer we had was Wagyu beef carpaccio and it was divine. It melts in your mouth. The arugula and parmesan on top complement the flavor so much. Highly recommend. Our entrees were lobster ravioli and lamb shank. Both were good! Rich and delicious. The desert was hazelnut soufflé. It was yummy too :) The ambiance is really cozy. I wish they had table clothes because it would make the dining experience even more special. When you think of French cuisine you think of classy and elegant. Their bare tables take away from that a bit. It may sound silly but I think adding table clothes would make a big difference. Their wine selection is great although I wish they had more options you can purchase by the glass. All in all, this place is a staple of Del Ray and we love dinning there. read more

Ambiance is good though limited space downstairs but ample space on the 2nd floor. Outside seating is available but close during our visit since there were no available server it was early morning. There is a parking at the back and the ramp is at the back. It seems more houses in Alexandria are not ADA. This place is like a house converted to a wholesome restaurant. Will come back. Extremely disappointed.... My first time here, because friends said it was soooo great. NOT. Service seemed to be an anomaly to them. I was there with a good friend, we ordered cocktails.... Finished with the cocktail, we ordered dinner. We also ordered another cocktail and I wanted wine with my dinner. Was told, ohhhh we no longer have that wine on the menu, I wil bring a simalar one for you to try..... ok, never came. An then, Seriously, our food came in 6 minutes! I REALLY was not happy. I told the deliverer of the food to cancel my cocktail, as the waiter was NO where to be found... MORE than half way through dinner, another person brought my cocktail.... REALLY?!? I told that person, that I told the delivery person, to cancel because my dinner appeared rather instantly! NOBODY LISTENS IN THIS RESTAURANT !! OR they dont understand you!! And seriously, I am FINISHED with my dinner, the waiter comes with wine! O M G..... I said.... do you see i am finished with my dinner? I no longer want wine that I wanted with my dinner!!!
