Amazing. I went there for the first time (I just started working here) and was blown away at the beautiful view there was and how beautiful the set up was at each of the tables. When we sat down, we were brought a basket full of breads and these delicious, almost flatbread like baked cheese bread "sticks" to start off. There were three tables. The first one was the appetizer table and they had smoked salmon, smoked duck, crab bisque, different salads and sauces and more that I just do not remember. It was very fresh. The second table had main course and there were were options with smoked cod, chicken and sausage, season's vegetables, korean beef and a chef at the end serving a delicious baked salmon with mango sauce. At the dessert table was all kinds of cakes, macarons, mousse, fresh fruit and others. It was delicious, for the price ($35), all you can eat, it was pretty good. The waiters came by to refill our water constantly, but I was a bit disappointed that they never came back with the basket of bread again. I think everyone should go there at least once to enjoy the atmosphere and have that great experience.

Fun experience. I was looking for something unique and different, and this fit the bill. Go for the experience and the views, not the food. When I went with a couple of friends, the building was undergoing renovation. To get to the Dining Room after clearing security and checking in to the building, we walked outside around the grounds of the complex, alongside the East River. The added walk seemed like a hassle initially, but was actually a great addition. The weather was sunny and absolutely gorgeous. There were monuments and gifts from various nations dotting the campus, and a lovely garden with statues as we walked along the East River. We enjoyed great views of the Queensborough Bridge, Roosevelt Island, and Long Island City. I was expecting a swanky, elegant Dining Room. It isn't. I was expecting haute cuisine. It isn't. It's a buffet with items that can survive well in a buffet. The maitre d' and staff were all very friendly and helpful. I was pretty disappointed to find American food on the day I went. I had hoped for something more exotic. For most of the delegates, I guess, American fare would be a different experience. They had excellent short ribs--succulent and melt off the bone. Mashed potatoes that were nicely creamy, shrimp and a couple of other enticing seafood dishes, roasted fingerling potatoes with French beans, salad greens with a choice of two different, equally tasty vinaigrette dressings, and delicious parsnips, among other choices. All-in-all a great range of choices, all quite tasty, and enough options that there were choices for all sorts of dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten-free, etc.). It's hard to find items that hold up well to the rigors of a buffet, but the chef managed to do just that. The biggest selling point, other than the unique location, is the view. We had a table by the floor-to-ceiling windows, and the views were spectacular. Most people were dressed in business suits. There was a woman in a sari made of the most exquisite silk, and another woman in traditional garb. The meal is $25 and they add a 20% gratuity. The staff certainly earned that. They were prompt and nicely solicitous whenever we needed anything. Still, I take offense at mandatory tips. If the price is really $30, then make it $30. Tips should be my way of signalling how well the staff did in making my whole experience enjoyable! But I digress... They also initially balked at splitting our bill, but ultimately acquiesced to the request. In addition to the lunch buffet, they offer the option to hold private dinners and functions in the Dining Room.

I visited right after opening, a little after 10 am (many businesses do not open until 11am, like my beloved Seed+Mill). My first impression was that it reminded me of a food hall similar to what I experienced in various cities in Japan. The variety of foods available is impressive and you really can find it all here, from an Italian grocer to Japanese to the various food stands offering everything from BBQ to the best halvah I've ever had. And there's a Pearl River Mart and other places to find gifts and souvenirs. My favorite of this ilk is Muji Market, which has all the Japanese amazing things! Also of note: very clean bathrooms. It reminds me of the bathrooms at Grand Central, a lot of stalls, sinks in the center, only much, much more pleasant. I'll be back as soon as I can. It's silly that I didn't come here when I actually lived in New York.

The physical location is open to 10pm though most shops and restaurants inside are closed by 8-9pm, only a handful of places like Chote Miya, Miznon, and La Devocione were still open though also wrapping up business for the evening. Wanted to highlight a few more stores here for this review: - Moon Man Foods: a Brooklyn-based company, they have a small stand about a third of the way thru the market (walking east to west), selling southeast Asian kaya jam, which is coconut-based and contain eggs, coconut milk, sugar, starch, and salt. They come in pandan, ube, and Java palm sugar (aka gula melaka) flavors. - Pearl River Mart and Pearl River Mart Foods: back in the day they used to be located in SoHo on Broadway, though rising rents made them relocate, and I'm glad they're still around! They carry all sorts of Asian-inspired decor, serving ware, stationery, and their "Foods" location downstairs is combination of Asian grocery, bubble tea (Milk & Tea), and Korean and Chinese snack/takeout stands (Kimbap Lab and Mao's Bao's). - Muji Market: this is a smaller location that carries a narrower assortment than your average Muji (house wares, basic apparel, accessories, kitchenware, snacks), though they have a full cafe serving coffee and matcha, simple Japanese lunch items like bowls, sandwiches and bento. Cafe prices seem a little higher probably due to the location. - gallery art: there is a small whitewashed hallway gallery of maybe a couple dozen small pieces by local artists, featuring NYC-centric photos, sketches, paintings, multi-media. Found this fun and entertaining!

We went in and got two things of the numerous items that we had on the list. We got the black and whites, as well as a couple of chocolate babka. The cookies themselves were just alright. However, the babka, my mouth is watering thinking of it. It's a shame it'll be a while before I'm back on the UWS, because I'd go back this moment to try the other things on the menu. The babka was definitely a standout. The bread itself was good, and the filling was great. I'd eat that again and again and again. Just on that, this place makes me want to return. There are a number of things I'd still like to try, but that babka was that good that it'd be a good reason by itself to return.

Zabars Ruined Father's Day…read more This is for a review of their online ordering and shipping. I ordered $200 worth of lox, bagels, and babka which was guaranteed to be there the next day (Sat), just in time for Father's Day. Sat rolls around, and there is no package even though it shows its in the process of being delivered on a UPS truck. Sunday rolls around, and the shipping says changes to Monday. I call on Sunday, speak to Michelle, and tell her my next day order didn't make it in time for Father's Day. She offers me a refund of the entire amount, or to reship the entire package. I choose the latter. She confirms and confirms next day shipping as well. The next day, I get my original package with spoiled lox in it. I throw away most of it and give the babkas I bought to mailman, since Zabars is sending me another package as agreed. But no, I get two voicemails. One saying my order has been delayed due to something being out of stock. Then I get another one, saying there was a misunderstanding, someone spoke to their manager, and only the lox will be delivered. What??? Although I understand that Zabars is not responsible for UPS's delivery fiascos, you can't just say you will deliver the entire order again, and then renege and say only part of it will be delivered. My Father's Day was ruined, and then Zabars offered to send THE WHOLE ORDER to make it better. Just because the UPS guy delivered my products eventually, they were still not delivered until 3 days later. I am truly disappointed in Zabars and especially since the manager lied and said that I had a misunderstanding that the entire order would be reshipped and the woman had originally said only the lox would be. Nope- I have her on voicemail apologizing for sending ONLY the lox. This is a bad way to do business. I am 100% sure they claimed the shipping damages from UPS also, what a scam. 0 stars for absolutely crap customer service, lies, and not delivering on their promises.

This class just did not need the standards of other classes I've gone to. The reason I gave this 3-stars is because what you get for $100 is just not worth the price, plus the final product was inedible. The class consists of giving you flour and eggs to make the pasta, then roll it (which was super rushed), a "cheese tasting" (three tiny portions of cheese with some pesto) and unlimited wine (sparking white and red). You then bring the pasta home to cook it (with the instructions to use a fork if you haven't had enough time to roll your dough, which some didn't). I made the pasta when I got home and it was completely inedible as was the person's I went with. The instructor was nice and the room is beautiful, which is why I added a few stars. They're also great about making sure that your wine is filled up. Overall, I would not recommend for this price, especially when the end product was a throwaway.
