Today I was told to get online at the other counter with the regular customers. When I reached the cashier I was shown the MealPal QR code. Then the women seemed to go get my food from the shelf but just disappeared. No explanation. No communication. The two other ladies at the registers also have no communication. I was invisible. I stood there 5-10 minutes before someone brought my food from the back. It would be professional to share with your customer what is going on. I would appreciate it being told my food will be coming from the back and they'll be a few minutes late. Just that simple action would put the customer at ease. Service I get here is worse than I get in Chinatown from grumpy old men. You can always tell if the employees are happy or not. And they always take it out on the consumers.

Usually people figure out the good places and tend to write good reviews. This one is shocking to me. Allow me to start at the beginning. I work about a block away but between Park and Madison. I thought my options were the Madison Ave ones (there's very little on Park itself other than food trucks and Pret)... One day I finally got tired of those and ventured towards Lex, and I noticed every construction worker hanging around this tiny deli next to a barber shop. If you know nothing else, you should know that construction guys always know where the best bang for the buck is. When you walk in it looks like any other deli (and their deli stuff is solid indeed) but there's a corner with rice and beans, pasta, and few latino dishes - these are the real gems! Depending on the day you may find some version of Carne Guisada (potato or not)... Pollo al Horno, usually some cooked fish dish, etc etc. You pick your base (rice/beans or pasta) and top it with one of the above. And then they pass your plate over to the condiment station. The food is great but this is what puts it over the top! Condiment station has Salad, Pico de Gallo, Salsa verde (thick and heavy, like a runny guac), and Salsa Rioja that will make your scalp sweat (I kid you not, I can handle heat but this red sauce is quite something). Back to the deli side - for a while I was getting the crispy chicken cutlet - delicious and fresh, as a wrap. One day I tried the above "Spanish" food section and never looked back. One day I thought there was some chicken cutlet, I asked the guy serving the hot food in the corner and he said "it's Fried Fish" - and before I could even say anything he breaks me off a small piece. I WAS HOOKED!!! Bad. At least once a week I get this combo of Fried Fish with guac, green sauce, and red sauce over a bed of rice and beans. The men's room at the Hugh is honestly the most disgusting public restroom I have ever experienced in Midtown Manhattan - it smells like a dumpster inside of a subway station, there are flies (fruit flies, house flies, and more) EVERYWHERE in the men's room and in the corridor to the men's room, the soap dispensers have no soap in them, there is only one working air dryer for hands, and the water fountain and bottle-filling stations have been non-functional on all of my visits there. Having said that though, all of it is easily fixable with a cleaning schedule and a team that is properly trained to keep the space cleaned on a regular basis. Interestingly, all of my visits to The Hugh have been with a coed group and I asked the women who I've been there with if their restroom suffered from the same maladies and the answer each time was a resounding NO - so it's clear things are being done right in one restroom, but not the other. A line is now forming at the one cashier that's open. I step away and ask the manager why he hasn't informed the cashier of the price on the shelf so I may finalize my purchase and leave. He says in broken English "price not right". I said okay, I understand that, but you need to handle this matter and THEN go fix your prices. He ultimately gave her the okay to change the price at the register for me in a very rude manner.
