All of the meat except turkey (and of course the bacon) is Halal as confirmed by the owner and his staff. For those that are not concerned with this, the Rotisserie roasted turkey is perhaps the signature item to opt for. My colleague described it as so delicious and juicy that the taste reminded him of a brisket! For me, their salads are the highlight; you can either opt for a variety of salads on the menu or choose to customize your own. Any salad with grilled chicken or fajita beef is hard to go wrong with, especially given that you can pick and choose veggies and condiments of your choice. Their grilled chicken panini is solid too and so is the gyro wrap. Among the plethora of daily specials, the Meatloaf stood out to me on my most recent visit today. As pictured, it is tender and juicy with plenty of ground beef and protein to make for a satisfying lunch. They serve a piece of garlic bread along with two sides of your choice with each daily special. My favorite sides would be the corn and creamer spinach, hands down. Other specials include Rotisserie chicken and Tandoori chicken, along with several traditional Indian dishes such as Biryani. Deli Deluxe is by far the greatest restaurant in Downtown Houston. If it were open on the weekends and for dinner, I'd take my fiancee here for our Anniversary (haha). In the tunnel beneath IBC Bank building on intersection of McKinney and Main, dive into the tunnel below the streets and you will find an indistinct deli nestled between a Shipley's donut shop and Miller's cafe. This place has affordable American dishes such as Stuffed Bell Peppers, Meatloaf, lasagna, and such. They also have some worthwhile deli sandwiches and breakfast tacos. Where this place really soars is there ability to introduce Indian cuisine to downtown audience. I have never been to India, so can't say this best Indian food, yet by the swarms of Indian people bringing their American colleagues to this non impressive looking deli, one can only assume, they doing it right! I am madly in love with Deli Deluxe. The day I discovered good Indian Food in the tunnels was the day my life changed forever. I've had the saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, samosas and vada pav and all were delicious. The guy that runs the place is really nice and knows to order my food mild without even asking me :) Don't worry, the mild is still nicely spicy and flavorful! My boyfriend doesn't love Indian food like I do, so we don't go out to eat it much. This is a nice way to get my fix and I don't even have to spend 50 bucks. This is an absolute gem of Indian food in the downtown tunnel loop. This tiny deli serves a hot plate of sliced turkey with rice and your choice of two sides and fresh dinner roll. I have to admit I would have skipped over the turkey had they not offered me a sample. It was the best turkey I've eaten in a long time. It was very flavorful and they give you enough for two meals. The employees are very nice. After many lunches here have to update- if you want good food, cheap and fast with the friendliest service- GO HERE. Now I only eat the Indian food but I was told the fried fish is excellent as well, so GO HERE and enjoy - remember to tell them you want it spicy if you want the spice..the regular is not spicy (unless you are spice averse then you may say it's spicy) but for those of us you like it hot- ask for spicy (I always get the special and never have been disappointed, even the straight veggie meals rock) and you get a drink with lunch special (their iced it has always been fresh so try it). This place is kind of odd though, they have lasagna, other pasta, gyros, pita, philly steak, and other stuff that just does not belong here.... their Lasagna looked like something out of a school cafeteria, but the Chicken Tikka Masala I had was just spicy enough, and the buttered Naan was good too. A quirky little spot, they offer a daily selection of traditional American comfort food plates, plus made-to-order sandwiches, salads and wraps. It's the classic Indian fare made and served here that keeps bringing me back. For Indian food options in Downtown Houston, Deli Deluxe is consistently my favorite. Their tikka masala is one of the best I've had, is always on the menu, and is offered in chicken and paneer varieties (they'll make it as spicy as you like!). They have some standard 'American' food offerings, like sandwiches and assorted hot plates, but I always come here for the traditional Indian food. I'm convinced it's some of the best and most authentic downtown. Great flavors and if you ask for it they'll make the dish very spicy.
