I've had Deli George a couple times and it's always been pretty tasty. I got the pulled pork sandwich today which is a current special and it honestly was almost inedible. Stopped here on a day trip Boise. It is a must stop for lunch. I can only give 4 stars because of the cleanliness and organization inside the restaurant and bathroom. This place is pretty great. There were two incredible things that I appreciated about this place... 1. It is a hop skip and a jump from my office 2. You can order in advance and pick up (which is awesome for the lunch rush) The first time I tried Deli George was for a work function and it was catered. They do an amazing job making sure they provide individuals with a nice selection of sandwiches. Their potato salad and pasta salad are pretty great too. DON'T FORGET YOUR COOKIE! The last time I dined with Deli George, I ordered lunch to go. My husband had a warm chicken sandwich and I had a turkey version of an Italian. I ordered a whole sandwich when I definitely could have just ordered half. My husband also tried the chicken salad avocado best salad that he really enjoyed. Wandered in here thinking they might have breakfast type options with eggs - they don't. My bad, the place opens at 10am, so what was I expecting? It was snowing so I wanted something warm, and that something turned out to be the Boise cheese steak, which was a solid 'B' grade. Visiting Boise. Stopped here and enjoyed it. Good service. I had a pastrami sandwich on a French roll. The pastrami was good but I forgot to say "no mustard." It seemed like homemade mustard and if I liked mustard it probably would have been good. I'd definitely go here again. read more

Finally checked out Deli George and I was not disappointed! So yummy! ! Great lunch spot, very good sandwiches. They use local bread and fresh, high quality ingredients. I ordered the turkey bacon avocado because well, you can't ever go wrong with that. They got bonus points for serving it on wheat bread too! They were very generous with the avocado and it was so tasty. I had to get a cookie as advised by others and, OMG THE BEST COOKIE I'VE EVER TASTED. I keep thinking about it. Gooey coconut, chocolate chip, macadamia deliciousness. Very busy at lunch, next time I will order online to avoid the long lines as their signs say. They don't have a ton of room to sit inside as well, we barely got a table. Oh well, so worth it. I will be trying the homemade potato salad next time too! read more

I like that Deli George is different than the average shop. They used to be famous for their upside down sign, but I think it was confusing people so they turned it rightside-up, which to me, will always be upside down :) Deli George is a favorite spot of me and my husband! Food: The sandwiches and sides are excellent. They're all prepared right before you and fresh daily. My favorite sandwich is the chicken bacon avocado. It's so heavenly and HUGE. The ranch that's on it seals the deal of the most delicious sandwich I've ever had in Boise. I am sure it gave me a 5-month food belly and I was not disappointed in the slightest! Drinks: Their soda dispenser is self-serve, which is nice! Atmosphere: It's always busy at lunch. I've never been any other time. If there's a wait, it's worth it. The photos hung on the wall around the eating area are filled with history. You won't be bored with the people watching and photo-reading. It's so fun and lively in there. Service: What I love is that the owner and head chef, George (duh), is ALWAYS behind the counter. Not only does he craft the food himself, with the help of his excellent staff, but he checks on you mid-meal to see how you're enjoying it. I've also seen him personally deliver to-go orders. They are always willing to substitute some dressings for others and make my sandwich in a timely matter; of course, I make sure to choose the non-busy times. I order ahead here probably 3-4 times per month. The quality of their sandwiches is amazing which is why I keep coming back. My food is always ready. I would give it 5 stars. However, the service is not so great. I get that everyone is short staffed right now and I totally have patience for that. But when I order ahead and then go stand there and there are four people talking behind the counter and not doing anything, some of which have made eye contact with me but with no acknowledgement, and several other servers have walked past me and not one of them says, "Hi, someone will be right with you" or "Hi, did you have an order? Ok so and so will grab that for you." Not any acknowledgment at all. That is a problem. I love to support a local business and like I said, I get that staffing is short everywhere. But a little common courtesy and human connection goes a long way. Otherwise I might as well go to a chain store down the street. Like I said I love the sandwiches and will try going a few more times. But if the service continues like this as I might as well go to elsewhere, even if they are chains restaurants. read more

I was staying in the courtyard next door and saw this deli on Yelp thought I check it out. Walked in today around 10:05am looks like they had just open for the day. I was the only customer there, waited for a few mins for an employee to assist me, and first guy that came out of the kitchen look at me didn't say a thing no greeting and then moments later walk back to the back kitchen area. Shortly after an older lady did the same thing, no greeting, she just looked at me and then walked off. I feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome there, so I took my business to Carl's Jr. next door instead. After I got my food from Carl's Jr. next door and I was walking back to the hotel passing by the deli and the same lady employee that didn't help me was smoking outside near the front entrance of the restaurant. Deli George graciously took on an insane amount of orders all at once for St. Luke's staff. I can't imagine what a pain it was to deal with all those tickets flooding in.
