Great food but refuse to return based on the owner yelling and swearing at his staff. He even went so far to throw a loaf of bread across the open kitchen and tell an employee to "get the hell out of here and do something productive- get off your ass." I was so shocked by this outburst that I asked a couple of the staff if they were okay and they both just shrugged and smiled in embarrassment. One even tried to lighten the mood by saying that "he is always like that" and compared the environment to "working at Hell's Kitchen." Not only is this completely inappropriate and harassing, but it was in front of several guests including children. I was appalled since it appeared all of the staff were stretched thin and doing their best to work through the lunch rush. Perhaps the owner should have spent more time training and developing his staff and working in kitchen prep prior to the lunch rush instead of throwing a tantrum in front of his guests. As a former corporate restaurant manager myself, I understand the stress that goes into a lunch rush, but it is never acceptable to treat others in this manner. I hope that his employees realize they deserve much better. The chicken salad sandwich I ordered was very good but definitely overpriced at $9.00, considering it came without any side item other than the butcher paper it was wrapped in. I would justify paying this much for a sandwich if it included a good atmosphere but at the end of the day, it is just a sandwich. This is my first time eating here. The turkey, bacon and avocado sandwich was delicious. The place has a "home like" atmosphere. This place must hire family orientated people because they are friendly and very helpful with your meal and you as a consumer. A friendly gentleman approached us at the table and asked how our meal was and I told him it was a delicious meal. He introduced himself as "George." I said that's cool because the place is called Deli George. He said it's because I named it after me. How many times has an owner of any place come and visit the consumers? As he left, I noticed him interacting with other consumers and he knew them "all" on a first name basis. That is customer service! I have never met Mr. Bell (Taco), Mr. McDonalds, or Ms. Wendy's. I love this place. I went in today with a friend. We had a kinda confusing order because we were going to split a sandwich and I couldn't do cheese, however the staff worked very hard to help us. We had a roast beef sandwich with sauerkraut. It was absolutely delicious and came out fast. The staff is very friendly and hard working. The deli is spotless and they had a smoker going and you could smell the delicious meat long before coming in. Reminds me of a place I went to on the east coast! Cozy little hole in the wall deli marked by its unusual upside down sign (apparently the owner purchased the sign, which was to resemble the Italian flag--however, if they were to hang the sign right side up--the colors of the Italian flag would be backwards. So, they opted for upside down writing over an inappropriately hung flag. And, now...it's become a trademark of sorts). We came here on a cold and snowy afternoon and upon entrance were immediately delighted by the notion of hot soup. Now, I'm not a big soup lover, but dang-diggidy they cook up a mean pot of it here! I ordered the cheesy vegetable, which warmed me body and soul. My dining companion was also delighted with the soup (we had actually planned to share a sammy and bowl of soup and he had to go back to the counter and order his own bowl, it was so good!). We shared a "One Smoking, sweet talking Turkey" sandwich (yes, really), which was solid. The ingredients were fresh and high quality (loved the honey mustard and smoky gouda combo), although I wasn't overly thrilled with their wheat bread. Their menu is extensive, serving salads and both hot and cold sandwiches (I'm excited to try the French dip another yelper mentioned!). The service was attentive, prompt, and friendly (what more could ya ask for?!?). One thing to note: this is a very popular little place at lunch time and seating isn't by any means extensive--so if you're in a hurry on a lunch break, take out might be a better option. I love sandwiches; good sandwiches made from fresh ingredients, tasty bread, and full of flavor. That's exactly what I found here at Deli George. The ambience is deli, the aromas are deli, and the sandwiches are deli heaven! My fiance and I split the Chicken Cheddar Bacon Ranch and it was plenty for the two of us and packed with flavor. How anyone could eat at the overpriced and over-processed chains this gem hides behind is beyond me, especially when there is a little piece of deli heaven just footsteps away. And the people are the nicest, the service friendly and attentive, and their courtesy made me feel right at home. Now I'm sure their busy hours may feel a bit more rushed, but dropping in around 3 worked great for us. We will be back. I'm going to try everything on their menu; especially after discovering they smoke their own pastrami. I can already feel my waistline expanding and I just don't care. Unfortunately we dont have a Jewish deli here in Boise; If you are ever back east, you should definitely check one out... One of the greatest things ever is Pastrami on Rye, and Deli Jorge is the only place in town I have found that does it right. They call it the New York New York And it is fantastic They grill a half a pound of pastrami and onions and place it on marble rye bread. It has French Swiss cheese and the right amount of deli mustard. The service is excellent and the owner is often out in the dinning area making sure everyone's food is okay. Tip: if you ask for a bag of chips and a pickle they are included at not cost when you order a sandwich. If you do not ask you will not get it. read more

You enter through the door facing the marriot, you pop into line, bring your glasses or know what you want cause the menu is over the registers and you are to the side. I'm in biotech sales and used Deli George for a lunch meeting. I try to use local businesses, instead of chains, whenever possible. Not that I want everyone to call them at the last second; they were able to help me without much notice. I ordered sandwiches, salad and cookies for 20 people. Chips and drinks came with my order as well. The sandwiches were not ordinary traditional deli fare. They were really really good. I grabbed one out of the variety that was on an herbed foccacia, and had some peppers. The bread was worth the carby calories. The salad was fresh with just enough personality to be interesting but not too fussy to turn pickier people off. The cookies were off the hook. I wouldn't normally give five stars for deli food but the friendly and helpful staff that made my delivery happen earned that extra start. I haven't been to the physical location but recommend these guys for a staff meeting or a rep lunch. read more

This is apparently a fairly famous kinda sorta German sandwich spot and if you're not in a hurry, definitely take a moment - or several - and check out the décor. If you're into history like yours truly, there is much there you will get a kick out of. As to the menu, loads of choices, many of them far more exotic than I had in mind. They like to bank their sauerkraut full of garbage that a purist like me has issue with, so if you're like me and don't like anything other than cabbage, vinegar and salt in your sauerkraut, skip it. I will say their pastrami, though somewhat dry, was also very tasty and I have high hopes for their corned beef. I'm not usually in this area around lunch time and their parking lot is kind of a pain (shared with Chick-Fil-A, I think or adjoining it), it is well worth it to make the trip and fight traffic. Let's say you're like me some more and really into the history thing, there is a very palpable sense of history there, so if you want your sandwich with a side of history, for instance, this is the place. No question I would hit it again and while I won't say this is the best deli on earth or anything, it definitely is a 4 going on 5 as I try more stuff. read more

I had a Standard House Reuben on Rye, She had a Half Sandwich - Ham & Cheese on Sourdough...We both felt these Sandwiches were rather Bland, nothing stood out as Exceptional. The SauerKraut didn't even have good Flavor. We were disappointed. When it got time to Pay we were Really disappointed as We felt we were Charged Excessively for what we got, over $21 with 2 Canned Mug Root Beers...Gee, No German Draft Root Beer? I remember the Old DeliGeorge on Fairview, and We could have eaten for Half that amount, and Had Sandwiches worthy of writing about...In Fact I use to Eat at the Old Business about 2-3 times per week back when they first Opened and for quite awhile after, until I moved away. The New Owner Made My Sandwich, I also hate to admit this but Arby's makes a Better Reuben than the one I had at DG's, that's pretty Sad....
