So glad I tried this Deli today!!! I had their French dip and animal fries. It was so tasty! The au jus was so delicious. They gave me more than enough for dipping and it made me think of pouring the au jus on rice hehe! My husband also tried the Reuben and he loved it! This is a very cool deli to come and take a look at. The decorations inside are very friendly and cute and make you feel like you are apart of the family/crew that works here. If you take the time to look at all of the pictures past customers have posted, you will see that their food looks just as gorgeous as the place itself. They have a lot of delicious sandwich options to choose from if you come in for lunch. We came for breakfast, where the options were limited but still good. You can make you own burrito or omelet, or choose from some of the pre made options, including some sandwiches and eggs Benedict. The burrito we ordered came with a side of fresh fruit. I was having a hard day, my dog went into major throat cancer surgery, and was having a hard time even keeping food down, much less enjoying it. I yelped delis because I figured I could make myself eat a sandwich. I hadn't eaten in a couple of days. I found this place on yelp, and, I'm very happy I did. I got the soup of the day, a cream of mushrooms, and the Michelle's sandwich. Both tasted so good, I was able to eat half of both in the first sitting. That's high praise. I came back a couple days later to try other sandwiches and soups. This place is awesome. The owner and other customers were extremely warm. I felt comfortable immediately entering in here. It's kinda hidden, I probably wouldn't have found on my own. Even living a couple blocks away. But, the food is beyond amazing, the people are great, and, I see myself as a few days a week regular. Looking for a sandwich location different from the chain names, we searched on yelp and google for a place to try that was open for dine-in. We found Delicious and decided to try. I decided to try Sue's Chicken Avocado Caprese sandwich and my fiancé had Taylor's Famous French Dip and we got a side order of pickles. The sandwiches are phenomenal. Located in a business strip area off of Gothard and Heil, Deli-Licious is making some of the best food between two slices of bread (or rolls) in the HB area! I knew going in exactly what I wanted: RJ's Fried Pastrami Reuben Sandwich. Now this is not your ordinary pastrami sandwich, or your regular reuben sandwich either. It is like they had a child that was very well mixed. The sandwich is not too large, but just about right in size. It comes in a french roll with dijon mustard that really works well on this sandwich. Next comes the fried pastrami. I never thought that fried pastrami was a thing, but it really is, and I really liked it. Their menu says that it is fried in olive oil (I'll take their word for it). Next is the provolone cheese and the finally the game changer is the vinaigrette cole slaw. I do not know how to describe the melody of flavors that happens when all of these get together, but my stomach sure was happy. A pastrami sandwich like this will cost you $9.00 + tax. I just tried Deli-Licious for the first time and wasn't impressed. I placed my order in person and there wasn't any confirmation of what I ordered or a receipt so I was worried the order would be incorrect. I came at a very quiet time where there were no other orders being worked on. After 15 minutes or so I got anxious and saw my order sitting on a counter where it sat for another 5 minutes before it was handed to me. When I got home the order was correct but the chicken in the southwest salad was these tiny, dried out chunks (see photo). My boyfriend and I came here for lunch because it is close to our house. This restaurant can only be described as a DIVE. There are strange decorations and mismatched furniture. We ordered two orders of the sliders, one for each of us. TWENTY minutes later, the server brings us one order of the sliders, which is when we discover they had only put one order in. Not having time to wait 20 minutes, I instead ordered a berry salad with seared ahi tuna. Even though the server assured us my salad would be out quickly, I still waited FIFTEEN and then server brought out a tuna salad, not seared ahi. I sent my meal back, and when I did receive my salad the ahi was old and tasted incredible fishy. I sent it back and didn't get lunch at all because it was absolutely INEDIBLE. I wasn't going to write a review, but the bit of fish I did eat gave me food poisoning and had made me incredible ill. I will never return to this restaurant and I have reported them to the health department. read more

I rarely (possibly never have) written 2 reviews on the same date - but this is Part 2 of a "Head to Head" Sandwich Challenge between Mr. Pickles and Deli-licious. These two places are the leaders when searching for sandwiches or delis on in HB on Yelp. As you will read it wasn't close I would award more stars if it were possible. Truly seemed as good as it gets. There's a good reason that my Yelp friends Sidney S, Steven N, Chris D, Dave G, Chad A, Laura S, Alan T, Dan H., Michael P, and Mary R. were unanimous with 5 stars!! The only dissenter was a 4 star ROTD from Donna D (who states she is not a huge sandwich lover)!! That is quite a shot grouping - not to mention the other 126 (127 with mine) 5 star reviews, and 60 more 4 star reviews!! The banner outside says they are voted #1 in OC by Yelp - I would have to agree that this is the #1 sandwich - not gonna get into #1 deli overall - but #1 sandwich for sure! Since this is a H2H with Mr. P's - let's get into it - Parking - easier, and more relaxed. Greeting, initial impression - this is a small family run place, not a franchise - So the welcome is warm, you come in a customer, but you are welcomed as a friend, that was the way it seemed to me - my observations provided the impression that many people who came in were remembered. There are pictures are on the walls of their many friends/customers. The seating area though small, is comfortable - and the Angels were on TV. It was a pleasant atmosphere - some candy and bottled water available (complimentary) while you wait for your order. I look into the kitchen and I see real cooking going on - an commercial range and griddle - people cooking - did not see a microwave - food might take a little longer that Mr. P's but the care and quality of the food make it worth it. - anyway it was just a little bit longer than fast food - not long by any means - and you can call you order in. I told the girl that took my order what i was doing with my challenge - she suggested a few favorites - and some of the other food choices - this was quite a contrast to the friendly but "what'll you have - everything on it - step to the left to pay" corporate training interaction and process at Mr P's. She was actually interested in my challenge - didn't feel any conversational interest at Mr. P's - more like fast food. She described the sandwiches, and that some where available as halves and some only as whole ones - As soon as I heard about Wende's "American Style" Deli Sandwich I didn't care about it being available as only a whole sandwich - I was sold! Here's the menu description : Your choice of meat and cheese, grilled with our deli slaw and tomatoes and topped with crisp french fries smothered in our special sauce and served on ciabatta bread. I went with the pastrami and swiss - read about this sandwich in Chris D's review - Let me just say, the sauce, the slaw, the fries, the meat , the ciabatta bread - everything was awesome. and the flavors came together so perfectly. I was amazed that it was this good. I don't know why I was surprised considering the reviews - but this sandwich put an end to this challenge right away - no contest at all - first round KO! In addition - cool sides available - I decided to try the Chili and the Mac and Cheese - now, that the kind of sides I'm talkin' about - and they were both good! Chili had good flavor, fresh tomato, onion and black beans and cheese - I liked it and would get it again - my only suggestion would be to up the meat ratio in it some. I liked the Macaroni and cheese also it had a couple of cheeses in it - I'm not sure what they were, it's not a whole lot of cheddar but rather other white cheeses, and topped with shaved parmesan or romano. Both sides had a little bit of grease, but whatever -it's mac and cheese and chili - IMO if its good stuff, it's gonna have a little oil. 3 Hearts Bakery cookies, vs. Mr. Pickles cookie. No comparison. They packed up my sandwich into two separate containers - knowing I was looking for a half sandwich - this made it easy to save the other half for dinner - plenty of napkins and utensils were place in the bag. In the end, this wasn't a great competition with Deli-licious winning almost every comparison - the only ones Mr. P's wins are having Pepsi, and hours open - which are inconsequential; what you really want is great service and great food - and in those categories this place certainly deli livers. This place truly lives up to the hype! I literally drive past it twice a day every day and never knew it was there. But I'm glad I do now. The atmosphere is kitschy and homey. The girl at the register was always smiling and super friendly to everyone. I noticed some people had called in their orders ahead of time and were just picking them up, and I think that is what I'll do next time. They offer a daily soup, as well as chili and mac n cheese every day. Salads, sandwiches, and some breakfast burritos are also on the menu. Upon walking in I noticed a board that read "Shhh, Its the NEW Secret Menu." So go check it out if you want to change things up a bit. After examining everyone's photos I knew I had to try the Chicken Avocado Caprese. WOW. All of the flavors were on point. The bread was fresh and light. As I ate a piece of chicken on its own I could tell that the meat was good quality. The cheese was perfectly melted. The mayo was lightly spread on to add just the right amount of flavor. I hate when places goop on globs of mayo. Although it doesn't look huge, a whole sandwich left me stuffed. Definitely go with the half if you don't want to be super full. I am not - by any means - a sandwich lover. I would rather have soup instead. When walking into the Deli Licious, I was impressed with the friendly atmosphere...everyone (I mean the employees) coming out and talking with you in such a friendly "sit down at my table" atmosphere. The place was small and quaint with small benches to bring a couple together instead of individual chairs....I have to say that I was enjoying myself at this yelpfest get together. We ordered and sat down to await our sammiches - chatting with Chadams and Michael (two of our favorite peeps) and out came our sandwiches. While I talked and visited, I absent mindedly bit into my Italian sandwich and WOW - this friggin sandwich is A-mazing!!! Such an unassuming little deli located among a huge industrial complex. But I imagined that it was a business center favorite considering how busy it was for a weekday afternoon. I luckily was able to secure my order before the mad lunch rush with the line out the door. Whew... Sue's Chicken-Avocado Caprese was definitely the star at this small mom n' pop shop and for good reason. The fresh mozzarella combined with the tender and moist chicken between two light and fluffy pieces of bread- absolutely delightful! Since it appears that most of the reviews for Deli-licous were written by females, consider this one as me peeing here and marking my territory, thus establishing male dominance as well. Alpha male, yo. The two proprietors, who I will refer to as Sleepy Girl (in a non-mi-vida-loca way) and Lisa Loeb, were very welcoming. I find that refreshing, since most establishments quiver when they see me pimp limp in. I, of course reciprocated by laying it on thick....like my waistline. Sleepy Girl took my order while Lisa Loeb worked diligently on food assembly. The place is real relaxed and chill. Especially since seating consists of lawn chairs. The Italian is without a shadow of a fuckin' doubt, the best Italian sandwich I've ever had. I was going to take a picture of it, but started to face rape me and I didn't resist it. The bread was all soft even though it was toasted. Nice looking tomatoes and paper thin onions. Awesome. The beef dip was very good too. The horse radish sauce has that kick with a delayed sweetness to it that was great on the sandwich. The chili was good. You can taste the chorizo in it. My first time here was for Laura S's birthday. On that particular day, I was able to try so many different things because a lot of my friends attended that birthday and so in true Anita L style, I just went ahead and tasted what everyone else ordered. I found that what completely stole my heart were the Italian sub, chicken caprese, chili mac, mac and cheese and the tomato soup. I loved them so much that I blogged about them and even submitted a story for the OC Register. I happened to go into the restaurant 2 days after the article ran with two of my friends for lunch and overheard them talking about how they literally ran out of food the day the article was published. That completely warmed my heart. On that day, my friends and I also tried the reuben which was also delicious. Sandwiches here are made with loving care and assembled so that the ingredients do not in any way mess up the bread. You won't find soggy ingredients all up on the bread, nor will you find anything to ruin your sandwich eating experience in any way. Portions are large so unless you are a behemoth eater, I think it is wise to share. I'm definitely looking forward to my visit there again -- I think I'm going next week with a group of Yelpers -- yes we can't seem to get enough of this seriously endearing place with some seriously good eats. I know if I lived closer I'd be there a lot more often!! And PS: I'm not a big sandwich eater -- I don't crave them as I never really grew up eating them! So ya know these are good! read more

I was absolutely blown away by the reviews here and I was really looking forward to trying it out. First, the good....er.....great. The sandwich was fantastic. Top quality ingredients on my chicken avocado caprese. Yummy white roll with a nice crust, quality white meat, and tasty toppings. Simply amazing. I also had a cup of the mushroom soup. Served very hot with fresh croutons. A nice side dish to the sandwich. Quite tasty but I wish I had some hot sauce to go with it. There was a bottle of hot sauce on the counter but I ate it in my car due to lack of seating. Which brings me to the not so great..... I arrived at 12:25 so I was expecting crowds. It took about 25 minutes from the time I walked in to the time I took my first bite. That tells me there is clearly not enough staff. The owner was working her tail off going from the register to the sandwich prep area. I appreciate her effort but I sure wished she put on gloves, washed her hands or put a hair net on. The seating is very cramped for such a tiny place. I wish they had a couple of tables outside (not sure if it's allowed). There was a table of 3 women having a lovely conversation, nursing a cup of water, and hogging a table for 4. Not cool during rush hour, ladies. The location is just terrible. As a foray into the restaurant business, this place may have cheap rent, but it's in a business park. The food here is simply amazing and I am not alone in giving it great reviews, but it's now time for a move to a decent location. The prices are quite high. I spent $15.20 for a sandwich, cup of soup and a soda. For these prices, I expect a bistro-type of experience. The food is fantastic. I really want to try the salads as they also looked amazing. For 5-stars, however, I would expect more. I will try it again when it is not so busy and review again. read more

Deli-licious has converted me to a sandwich fanatic. When hubby suggest a sandwich restaurant for lunch, I typically give him an O__O eye roll. Umm, a sandwich is a "snack" for me..... not a meal. However, today..... hubby and I stopped to pick up a sandwich at Deli-licious for sonny boy's lunch. The quaint restaurant is whimsical and very entertaining with all of the personal pictures and postings on the walls. We were greeted by a young boy and then I believe his mother Michelle who took my order at the counter as follows: (1) Taylor's Famous French Dip Sliced roast beef cooked in au jus sauce, with provolone cheese on a hoagie roll, served with a side of au jus. Sonny boy luved his sandwich which was full of juicy roast beef and a great tasting au jus. I had a bite and thought it was better than the famous Philippe ....oh, and don't forget the horseradish! (2) Daniel & John's Hoppin' Homemade Fries With Chili & Cheese Sonny boy luved this side dish. The homemade fries and chili were yummy, abundant and complimented his french dip sandwich! A winner! (3) Michelle's Turkey Turkey on squaw bread with mozzarella, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, sprouts and avocado with a caper mayonnaise. Hubby and I shared the sandwich since we already had lunch but had a lil wiggle room. OMG, the sandwich was so huge..... I had to take two bites to get the entire sandwich experience. All of the ingredients worked so well with one another.....I luved the different textures and flavors from the savory turkey to the crunch of the cucumbers and that caper mayo was decadent. The BEST fresh and tasty turkey sandwich ever .....oh, and they use Boar's Head deli meats and cheese! I had a 5 Star experience at Deli-licious which serves great tasty sandwiches in a friendly and inviting atmosphere. I'll be back to sample their other menu items. read more

I came by here for lunch on a weekday. There was only 1 other customer other than me so there was no wait. The decor is fun and quirky, just like the ladies working there. There's beach-y California-y stuff painted on the walls. I ordered the chicken avocado caprese sandwich and got a free drink for liking them on FB. I thought the sandwich was good, don't get me wrong, but I thought it was overpriced.. my total came to be about $10. The ingredients were fresh but I felt like the sandwich was lacking something. I want to come back to try their french dip sandwich since a lot of Yelpers recommended it but I wouldn't go back for their caprese sandwich. read more

This place is going to put me out of house and home. I will literally be the old woman who lived in her leftover box. I love Deli-licious. I think I am going to make it mandatory that I make a stop there at least every other week. Why do you ask? The food is fantastic but beyond that Wende is an amazing owner. Upon my return visit she warmly welcomed both Chad and myself with a great big hug, she also had us sit down and order because she remembered we both hadn't been feeling great. When she took our order she remembered my exact sandwich from my one and only visit to her establishment. She's so great. She chatted with us and even wished Chad a happy late birthday. It's crisp and warm, soft in the middle but stands up well to the mountain of flavor inside. There is some serious sandwich engineering going on here because everything stays in place from bite one to bite done! I love getting the perfect bite consisting of all the ingredients every time. You can't beat this place, you really can't. I also had a bite of the french dip I brought home for my BF and even later in the day after it had been reheated that thing was delicious as well.
