The pan dulce was good. The cafe de la olla was mediocre. Staff was okay. I'll be back for a sweet tooth fixing.

The strawberry jam had a medicinal taste, and upon opening the cake, all the milk spilled out, causing a mess. It seems they forgot to place a tray, as everything leaked. I love pan dulce and this was walkable from the Fruitvale BART, so decided to give several breads a try (I apologize, I'm not knowledgeable enough yet to identify anything that isn't conchas). One of the buns had a sugar cookie-like exterior and was what I expected. Although the chocolate-coated one appears from the surface like it'd be softer and creamier, it was actually hard - not necessarily a bad thing, I Just hadn't known what to expect. Overall my least favorite was probably the one with the custard inside of it; it was actually bitter, which may not be an issue for those who don't like their food too sweet or knew what they were getting into, but I was taken by surprise. I would like it if the breads were labeled with the name/type and ingredients, since that would be easier for anyone with dietary restrictions and allergies, but I understand that's not the norm in almost all the panaderias I've been to. One bonus of this place: they do have a bathroom that you can use. read more

I was looking for a Rosca de Reyes this morning... I went to Cardenas and it was a mad house. Then I went to La Peña, but it was completely closed! So I searched yelp and found this place. I gave them a call and, sure enough, they had roscas! I must admit I was a bit skeptical about this bakery, but I had no other options. I got there and they had plenty of Roscas in three different sizes. I purchased a small and a medium. The large roscas were huge! We rushed home to cut the rosca and I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing taste of it! The bread was soft, moist and just delicious!! I will definitely return next year for our Rosca de Reyes. read more

Came in on a Monday morning to get pan dulce for the office as I live walking distance from here. I regret not trying this place before buying for a large group of people because it was so disappointing. Everything tasted stale and old, I ended up throwing away all the left overs. Probably won't come back, there's way better places on Fruitvale a couple blocks away. read more

Break is good. But they should really clean the shelves that the bread is kept in throughout the day it looks like it has not been cleaned in years I'm sorry. This location needs a major cleanup on all aspects as soon as you walk in the door there's this particular smell to the environment. read more

Highly recommend the bakery in the Fruitvale Public Market as the staff are more respectful and community-oriented. The staff here where horrible as they belittled my mother and called her nasty names bc she picked a piece of bread with a bag NOT HER HAND, a bag! Which is very much the custom in Mexican/Latino bakeries so I do not understand the issue. This caused my mom shame and public embarrassment I don't wish this upon any of you!! read more

This is place has very rude service. I went in the other day to make a cake order. However the lady attending me was very disrespectful when I decided to also grab bread. When she was ringing up the bread she threw it in the bag and threw the bag towards me. When I asked her why she felt the need to throw it, she grabbed the bag and crumbles up the bread and threw it to the trash. Definitely would not recommend this place at all. read more

Stumbled on this place today and stopped in to check it out, not really intending to buy anything because we'd just eaten at El Farolito and were pretty stuffed. I'm glad I stopped in. they have an entire case filled with various baked goods; assorted cookies, sweet breads, donuts and the like. It's a self serve case so pick up a tray and a pair of tongs and help yourself. The second I opened the case I was engulfed in the most amazing smell, everything was clearly fresh and made on premise. We got four small cookies, two large cookies and a ginger bred for a grand total of $3.65! Got home and immediately ate two of the cookies. Delicious! I was so looking forward to a Pan dulce- a concha in particular. So instead of getting the big ones as they looked a little crushed, I got the little ones. so disappointed they were hard and not good at all. I also tried their tamales one mexican one and one "chapin". the "Mexican" one was ok was supposed to be chile and cheese and it had a small slice of chile, ok cheese and lots of masa.. Their "Chapin" had good flavor but it had a big chunk of chicken shoulder blade. The bones that took up half the tamale, were soft so when you tried to eat around them you would get pieces of bones. Nothing worse then having to pick bones out of the food in your mouth. once i deconstructed the tamale pulled the meat off of the bones and removed the skin, it was easier to eat, less bones to pick out. Definitely different from other tamales, I thought they were supposed to have other ingredients then sauce and piece of bone in chicken?. My co-workers had had warned me about the quality of their conchas and they had mixed reviews about the customer service. I wanted to support local business and give them I try but next time I will walk a little farther to get my bread and tamales. and would not recommend. read more

They offer all the commonplace morning staples like fresh brewed coffee and palatable sweet treats, but their tortas are by far the best food items that they carry. Their sandwiches are always large in size and packed with plenty of ham and fresh veggies to fill your tum tum during a lunch time break, and they are always reasonably priced at $4.50 out the door. If you happen to come here for a sandwich, ask them politely to make one fresh for you, as the pre-assembled goods tend to be semi soggy from 5am prep. read more

Visited on 9/5, got one of their pastries. Seems like a family business with a young girl taking the cashier which seemed wasn't happy working there, probably because it was Labor Day? Anyway, the pastry I got was big and delicious, and I saw a man constantly bringing out fresh pastries from the back. Will stop by for more if I am around the ares. read more
