I LOVED my wedding and grooms cake. The consulatation was lots of fun, and designing the cake was a breeze thanks to Niki. She was a hoot! Thanks to my fantastic wedding coordinator, Callie Gray Weddings & Events - we were able to get my cake booked only a few weeks before my wedding. I joked with my (now) husband that tasting the bottom layer almost made me cry due to it being SO good... sorta joking....because it really was THAT good! If we could give no stars we would. We thought we would have had a pleasant experience from the initial appointment we had with one of the ladies at the cake tasting. We ordered three flavors for our wedding which took place on Saturday, October 9th. The top tier was supposed to be spice, the middle tier was supposed to be strawberry and the bottom tier which was the biggest tier to feed over 70 ppl was supposed to be pink champagne. The bottom tier was vanilla with buttercream filling and the top and middle were strawberry. NOT WHAT WE ASKED FOR! We were already annoyed at the unprofessionalism of the owner who dropped the cake off 1.5 hours early at 12:30pm vs. the 2pm - 4pm drop off time we agreed upon. We weren't supposed to have access to the venue until 1pm however, the venue was gracious enough to let us have access before then so the owner popping up early with not even a phone call to let us know he would be dropping the cake off early was frustrating to say the least. Our ceremony wasn't set to begin until 6pm so a cake sitting there in the reception space at 12:30pm was a problem for us. Also, the owner and I agreed that I would purchase the roses for him to place on the cake so popping up early unexpectedly threw me off as the bride trying to prep for my perfect day. One of my bridesmaids were already en route to getting the roses and hadn't made it back yet because we weren't expecting him until at least 2pm. When I told him we weren't expecting him this early he said "oh well, I had a change of plans" I replied "ok...it would've been nice if you called to ask me if it would be ok" the whole time I'm talking to his back. He didn't even have the decency to look at me. He proceeded to take the cake out of the trunk and walk it inside, placed it on the table and walked out. As you can imagine, when we cut the bottom tier of the cake during the cake cutting portion of the reception, to our surprise we saw vanilla cake when we should have been looking at pink cake. I wanted to burst into tears because at this point I was frustrated especially since this cake was purchased way in advance since April and I also went into the store at least 3 weeks before our wedding to make sure everything was all set. To have them still mess up our cake was disappointing and unacceptable. The owner was only willing to reimburse us $100 of the almost $800 cake we purchased. I told him that isn't acceptable because if it was the top tier or even the middle, we might let it go, but the bottom tier which was supposed to feed the largest portion of our wedding party was vanilla and not pink champagne, we can't let that go. Especially since we have more than 75% of that bottom layer left. No one hardly touched it. The slices that were cut off and placed on the table ended up being tossed and we saved the rest of the cake. We took a picture and video and sent it to him and was willing to bring it to the store to show him but he wasn't agreeable to that. He blamed the mistake on Covid of course and said "this Covid has everyone wonky and it's human error." We are truly disappointed at this whole situation but even more disappointed that the owner's unprofessionalism and nonchalant attitude will prevent us from using this company ever again and anyone that we come in contact with that is looking to hire a cake company, we will make sure to let them know not to use this business because they only want your money and don't care about customer satisfaction. This is bad business and unethical behavior. I understand that ppl. make mistakes all the time however, it's what you do with those mistakes and how you rectify them is what's important. read more

My husband and I ordered our wedding cake from here. Originally we met with a one female consult who was amazing. I received a voicemail roughly 2 months prior to my wedding requesting for funds or else my cake order would be cancelled. I called back furious to find out the man i spoke, who's name is Butch, with ended up telling me the female consultant had left and he had no idea about my order even though I had a copy of my cake order. In the end after extensive phone calls and emails, my wedding cake was stunning and everyone loved the cake. In my contract, I was to received a a replica of the tier of m wedding cake for free in lieu of saving it. After several phone calls and emails no one responded to us. So I never received my cake. As amazing as our wedding cake came out and delicious it was. I would NEVER recommend this bakery due to its inconsistency of communication. I just don't feel comfortable referring anyone to this bakery after everything I went through with them even though they tried to make things better but still could not keep their promise of what was agreed upon in our contract. read more

This place SAVED my daughter's birthday. After having ordered a custom cake from another bakery in Addison two weeks in advance, I walked into DC on Friday in tears. The "other" bakery totally messed up the cake I had ordered and prepaid for. Not only was it smaller and undecorated, the colors weren't even right! The original bakery shrugged their shoulders and said that they didn't have time to make another cake. DC has a handful of premade cakes on hand for catastrophes like this. They added some sparkle, pearls and wrote on the cake. In less than ten minutes, I walked out with a perfect cake. And guess what? It tasted freaking amazing! Don't come here. Cake is dry. This place is unorganized, unprofessional and outrageously s-l-o-w! I had a cake tasting with my fiance and sister here. Upon our arrival the staff looked confused and shocked that there was even an appointment for a cake tasting. Nonetheless an older guy come out to attend to us. He hardly greeted us or even tried to have the typical conversation a baker has with any customer. He gave us a sheet of paper to select the flavors we wanted to taste and did not bother to describe to us in detail anything about the cakes or fillings. When we asked him questions he merely read the brief description written on the paper. Once we selected flavors we were very shocked at what they brought out. Without even tasting the cake they all looked dried out and seemed like leftover cake that had been cut out. Bingo! When we tasted it we felt that confirmed. Unless they just have horridly dry cake always. The frostings were only two, chocolate and vanilla and we were not given any filling samples. I wanted to leave then but the older man sat down to give us a consultation on design. Haha this man didn't even understand simple design lingo! Warning...brides beware. While delicious cakes has some fairly tasty cakes (extremely sweet), their wedding cake saleswoman definitely has a "used car salesman" type feel about her. I asked about their pricing structure for wedding cakes, and they told me that wedding cakes were "worth more because they could be cut into smaller pieces." Excuse me? So if I have four slices of an apple, worth $1, and I cut the slices in half, suddenly I have $2 worth of apple? This is three year old logic. Yes, I know wedding cakes get a huge markup. Yes, I know they spend a lot of time piping on all those little details and rolling fondant. So do a lot of the other bakeries that have better prices, and a lot more honesty to boot. This bakery is... not really sure how to word it. The staff is not friendly, they look at you as if you cannot afford to purchase cakes there, and this last time I ordered, they completely messed up the cake I order for my mother's retirement dinner. The writing was wrong on the cake, and the girl working there tried to ask if I told the person who took my order the correct thing to write!? She then looked at the order form and realized she had made a mistake. THEN they tried to suggest an extra tacky quick fix because the writer who did the original writing on the cake was off that day. They're cakes do have a good flavor, and some of the pictures do look amazing, but unless you are spending money on a wedding cake, they don't seem to value your time, wants, or needs. Designs: they will do just about anything! And they are willing to work with you to find a design that you like. Simply gorgeous cakes. Pricing: so reasonable! I actually couldn't believe the price, for what we got. It was exactly what I ordered, and it was ready exactly when they said it would be. CAN'T COUNT ON DELICIOUS CAKES I wish I had seen the many negative reviews on Yelp before we ordered our sons engagement cake from Delicious Cakes. We had purchased a cake here about 7 years ago for my parents anniversary and were very happy with it....although thinking back, it wasn't ready on time and created a bit of stress. Anyhow, when I entered the bakery, the staff was not very friendly. No greeting or ask if they could help me. When I did tell them I wanted to order a cake, it took awhile for a woman to come out and sit with me. This was. Odd week, with multiple staff members and only one other customer in the store. After going over many details, and drawings of the layers (like a small wedding cake-larger layer on bottom with small layers on top), I was very excited with the explicit design we agreed on. The day of the event was very busy, and I had my husband go and pick up the cake. He called from the bakery because what I had discussed with him was not what the cake looked like. We expected a 3 layer cake, that looked like a miniature wedding cake. Instead, what we had was a basic 3-same sized layers, cake. When I spoke with a staff member over the phone, and told her what was written on the order form and who I spoke with, there was no apology offered, just 'we don't have time to bake another.' I told her how disappointed I was and she said she would talk to the manager and call me back. Surprise, never got a call back. I was willing to pay more for a designed cake since it was such a special event. Instead I got a basic layer cake I could have made myself, and a feeling of being ripped off. When we were looking for wedding cakes, we had already stopped by a few other cake places before hitting this place. After speaking to a woman there, we were sold on having Delicious Cakes do our cake. We did the cake testing and settle on the white chocolate liqueur for one of our layers and a dark chocolate for our second layer. We designed the cake to be quite large but a couple of our layers weren't real cake so it didn't cost a fortune. For the amount of cake we got and also the amount of detail that went into it, we thought that the price was quite reasonable. They worked with our small budget and gave us a beautiful cake for a good price. Another cool thing about this place is that if you order from there, on your first anniversary, they give you a brand new cake top so you don't have to save the one on your original cake and freeze it for a year. I thought that was a pretty sweet deal. So we just had our first year anniversary 2 days ago and we had called ahead to order it. They sadly didn't make our flavor anymore so we went for a chocolate cake with fudge icing. It was absolutely delicious. We wanted to see if they could do an exact replica of the cake they had made for us the year before, but they had told us that they don't keep those records, so if we wanted to get that, we can always just give them a picture of what it looked like and they'd gladly do it. So, I would completely recommend getting a cake done here for any occasion. You may have to spend a bit, but if you just talk to the people there about what you have in mind in terms of budget and look of the cake, they are willing to work with you. read more

I have NOT ordered a custom cake from here, so this review is based solely on what I got out of the front case. Before I place an order for a custom cake, I like to try a variety of what that bakery has available. Short story, it was not good...at all. And I found out that they don't even bake their stuff there, and that they keep it in the front refrigerated case for who knows how long. The cupcakes are dry and flavorless. The icing looks like a two year old put it on blindfolded. The cake balls are horrible. The chocolate coating is sloppy and if I were to close my eyes I wouldn't be able tell the differece between the flavors I bought. I got yellow cake and red velvet! I should easily be able to tell which one is which between those. They also had a few simple pre-decorated cakes that looks rushed and also quite sloppy. The price they put on those...yikes!...you would expect something better than that. Like I said, I can't speak for their custom cakes, so maybe it's different there. But the sweets they have in the front case are definitely not up to par with the rest of that place, and I would say it actually takes the whole place down a peg. The displays are beautiful and the kitchen is clean. I believe they should take better care of what's in the front case. It's the first impression of the store, and as of right now, it's sad. I just came here recently for a cake tasting with Beverly! She went over everything with us. She let us enjoy the cake tasting and came by to check on us and answer any questions. it seems they are not pushy with sales because the quality and taste of the cake is what will sell it and make the purchase. She got my cake design and priced everything for me before i left which I love because I can put it in my wedding folder and compare to the other tastings I go to. However, this cake was just so delicious, and not too sweet where I left with a stomach ache and we did try about 9 different flavors! Beverly assisted me & let me tried several generous portions, any flavors I wanted. Yeah, that just happened here and by the looks of the staff lounging around in the back, I should've known better. I ordered 3 cupcakes, orange, pink champagne, and strawberry. I will start by saying that the taste of these cakes truly are delicious, absolutely no complaint there! I did cake tastings for my wedding with many bakeries before I came to Delicious Cakes and they were hands down the best. The reason I am giving 3 stars instead of 5 is because on the day of the wedding the grooms cake we ordered was absolutely disappointing when it came to decor. We asked for personalized drawings to be put on our cake that I had gotten for my husband a few years ago, him drawn as Superman and me as Batgirl. I emailed the photos months before. On the day of the wedding, we get ready to cut the cake in front of everyone and I see the grooms cake that looks like a 5 year olds birthday cake - white icing with Superman and batgirl "stickers" on the side. There wasn't even anything on the top. I was so disappointed that something that meant so much to us was ruined. And I admit, a little embarrassed in front of my family and friends who thought we would order a kids cake. When I emailed Butch about it it took over a week to hear back. Granted, he said he was out of town and he did take full responsibility for it, giving me a refund on the part that would have paid for the sugar sheet with our images. He also offered to give 50% off on a future order which I thought was kind. The part that bothers me is that when you are part of a business you should have an "out of office" auto-email sent out because I was super annoyed after not hearing back from anyone for a week, causing me to send a second email. I very much appreciate him taking ownership of the situation but unfortunately nothing can completely make up for something like this. This wasn't a birthday party or casual event - this was my wedding that I put a lot of time and effort into. You only (hopefully) get one wedding. Did it ruin everything? No, of course not. And the actual wedding cake was what I asked for and it was delicious. But it is still very disappointing that my husband didn't get the cake he was excited about. read more

There wedding cake was delicious at my daughters wedding. The 3 stet is for the taste of the cake. They came on time, but had the wrong color on the brides cake. If my daughter would have seen it there would have been in tears. I told them it wasn't the cake we discussed and to take it out of the venue. They took it back. I called and they said they would fix it . The black board it was on was not colored well, the fondant was not smooth and they had promised to place the live flowers on the cake and the delivery guy saiid I just deliver cakes so I had to arrange the flowers on the cake my self. When it was time to cut the cake my daughter immediately noticed the uneven fondant. I called and requested part of my money back and was told no. BRIDES BEWARE! My husband and I got married this past October, and we contracted with Delicious Cakes to make us a beautiful four-tier wedding cake and a groom's cake. Well, the day of the wedding, NEITHER CAKE WAS DELIVERED TO THE VENUE despite my checking in with them a week before the wedding, and two days before the wedding. I was assured my cakes would be delivered promptly at 6pm (recpeption was to start at 7:30pm), and everything was in order. Well, after walking the aisle and saying "I do", my new husband and I are then informed by our stressed out looking wedding coordinator and my mother that our cakes have not arrived and they can't get anyone to respond to them. They attempted to call the bakery and their "after hours number" 50+ times with no response. We ended up having a wedding guest go to a nearby grocery store to buy sheet cake so we would have a dessert to serve our wedding guests. I was so disappointed with the entire experience!! Those are moments and memories we will never get back! We finally did hear from the owner at 9:30pm stating he couldn't get in touch with his delivery boy, but they could have the cakes there in "45 mins." The reception was scheduled to end at 11pm, and by that point, it was just too late. The damage had been done. We did get a prompt cash refund the next day and an apology letter from the owner the next day. He finally did get in touch with his delivery boy... was it a family emergency? A horrible accident? Anything reasonable?? Nope. "I just forgot." Those were the words told to us. The delivery boy "just forgot" and now we forever missed out on an iconic memory and moment of our wedding. read more

I discovered Delicious Cakes in a bride magazine and decided to try them. My family normally gets our cakes from Frosted Art but they are so expensive I decided to try Delicious Cakes for my sister's birthday (cake #1) The cake was really good but there was no design involved. My second cake was for my brothers birthday(#2) An important part of the design wasn't correct. The decorator got an attitude when I told her it wasn't like the picture. She went back and forth with me and made it seem like it was a hassle to correct. Cake number 3 was a baby shower cake and the design of the baby made the baby look deceased. One week later 4th cake, my sister took a picture of a cake and pointed out what color she wanted the cake (emailed the picture as well). The cake was the wrong color. We called and spoke with the owner (I believe he was) and he put the decorator on the phone. It was the same person who argued with me about my brothers cake. She argued with my sister about the color of the cake and told us that she spent 6 hours on the cake and should have charged us more. She literally argued with her for about 10 minutes and was very aggressive. The owner said we could bring it in a have them fix it. At this point we didn't trust them to make it right. I need up going to a cake supply store and getting the necessary tools to make the cake the correct color. The roses were not uniform, they were messy. The border on top of the cake was cracked and you could see where she stretched the fondant. The fondant looked very dry and brittle as well. It was a simple wedding cake design with fake tiers to be decorated with fruit for a rustic look, so I can't comment much on the design of Delicious Cakes. HOWEVER, the cakes tasted amazing! I absolutely loved the raspberry liqueur cake with yellow cake with almond flavoring. Yummy! The grooms cake was a decadent chocolate and the wedding couple only got to eat a small slice because it was completely devoured by the guests! read more
