I stumbled upon La Spiga Bakery on my day off & was pleasantly surprised. I eat on belt line all the time but didn't know this places exists but so glad I found it! The service at the counter was very good. Since I had never been in before I ask for recommendations & I really enjoyed my sandwich & salad. They were very kind & helpful. The food came out pretty quickly & was delicious! I enjoyed every bite! Then I went back for a cookie before I left. My only feedback would be that it seemed like tables of 2 or more got a plate of small pieces of bread but tables of one didn't. I didn't need as much bread as the other tables but it would've been nice to get a small plate as well. Since it was my first time in I would've loved sampling more that they had to offer. This is a quaint spot tucked away. The service is lovely. Most of the menu is available all day and the the order turnaround is relatively quick. They have full sized desserts you can't take home as well as personal sizes. They seem to have lots of patrons they know by name. The bathrooms were clean, and the kitchen looked clean as well. How could I possibly have missed this place after living so many years in the town of addison? It is amazing! The food is fabulous. The atmosphere is nice and quiet. The people are so kind. And they have everything to eat from pastries and cakes and muffins to sandwiches, salads, pizza, pasta, and soups! Fernanda was super kind and share it all about what was available at the bakery. We tried the cedar salad with grilled salmon and the lemon chicken piccata with angel hair pasta. We also bought the most fabulous fresh sourdough bread and a raspberry scone with a drizzle of icing. I stumbled on this place yesterday for the first time and I've lived probably 6 miles from there the whole time they've been open. I was like a kid and a candy shop. I got a wonderful turkey and cheese sandwich on their homemade sourdough bread and a surprise to me. There was a bag of their homemade chips in there that came with the sandwich! This spot is so unassuming and near a few repair shops. I came here with a few coworkers and as soon as we entered, we were all greeted by an employee behind the register. There were a few "daily" specials on a board near the register and a menu on the wall that broke down the different combos and menu items. I also noticed a menu to the right of the entrance where you could get coffee and an area where you can get cakes/pastries. I asked them at the front what they recommended and they asked what items I was leaning towards. I indicated that I'd like a sandwich. She asked if I'd like to do a combo rather than just a sandwich so I decided on getting Tomato Basil Soup and a Chicken Tarragon Sandwich. The quantity of food our group received for the price we paid was so good. Some members of our group had nearly 2 meals from what we were given. They also provided a small plate of different types of bread for our group like sourdough, ciabatta, and jalapeño cornbread. Anyways, the sandwich was quite large and the soup was warm and tasty. Was intrigued by the Italian cream cake and ordered it for a birthday. Also grabbed an oatmeal raisin cookie. The cookie is pretty good, filled with butter and pretty mushy consistency. The Italian cream cake was OK, not great flavor. I have to believe it was not a fresh one. We served it the same day we picked it up. It's a triple layer cake and the bottom layer was hard and dry. Everything at this little cafe is amazing. It's giving French street cafe vibes and offers about 10 tables. There is also a counter along one wall for 4 individuals. La Spiga bakes breads for top DFW restaurants' bread baskets and sandwiches every day. The cafe uses the fresh bread along with other fresh ingredients for delightful sandwiches, salads, soups, pastas and pizza. For its sandwiches, the cafe slices fresh oven baked turkey breast, corned beef, roast beef and other meats and pile them onto the fresh bread. The chicken tarragon salad is one of the most delightful and refreshing salads I've ever had, made with freshly baked chicken seasoned with tarragon, chopped apples and celery, red and green seedless grapes, and sliced almonds in a mayo dressing. It's served on a bed of fresh romaine lettuce and portions are so large that a small salad is easily enough for one. The last time I was there I had the chicken salad just described and my companion had a turkey sandwich. While we were enjoying our meals, we saw a server bring the most incredible Reuben sandwich I had ever seen to another table. I mentioned to my companion and we both began re-evaluating our menu choice. Not to worry though, we went to La Spiga again yesterday just for the Reuben sandwich and we're not disappointed. The sandwich came with the cafe's homemade potato chips and a green salad. Nothing on the plate was ordinary. The sandwich was loaded with juicy corned beef, sauerkraut, what started like some stone ground mustard, maybe a bit of horseradish sauce and plenty of Swiss cheese. The salad had romaine and other salad greens, carrots, mushrooms, cucumber, black olives, and a pepperoncini all tossed in a creamy Italian dressing. We could only eat half the sandwich but we got to take the other half home - dinner! Best of all, this sandwich plate was &10.95 (which includes the second half of the sandwich that we each took home.) I have eaten at La Spiga for more than 15 years and have never been disappointed by any item on the menu. The same attention to detail is given to everything they serve. The cafe is open for breakfast and while I have never been there that early, I have no doubt that breakfast is equally delightful. There are also loaves of fresh bread, rolls, muffins, cakes, and cookies available. This place is a cute little shop in the back of what looks to be a warehouse. Don't let the exterior fool you, this is a hidden gem worth visiting. The staff are friendly and service is quick. They were happy to give recommendations and checked in on us after ordering. The food was delicious, and left me so happy and full. I HIGHLY suggest the roasted garlic potato soup and any of their breads they sell at the counter. The latte was made right in front of me and tasted delicious. All in all this was an amazing meal and I will be back!! Pro tip: they open early and sell fresh pastries that are delicious. Came in today during the Friday afternoon lunch rush for a pre-Valentine anniversary lunch with my spouse and let me tell you, ladies this place was filled with whole tables of men! I thought they were hosting a speed dating event or something, but there were just so many hungry men chowing down! Have been going here more than a decade and it just isn't what it used to be. Ordered the chicken and goat cheese pizza, which was missing the goat cheese and had regular tomatoes subbed in for sundried. Not as tasty as I remember. The person from the kitchen couldn't find our table and they weren't wearing any gloves. Got some attitude from the woman who finally found our table and she wouldn't take away the table number and left dirty dishes despite no room in the table. The service is so bad. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome. The person working the counter answered all of our questions and also provided recommendations. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on egg bread with potato garlic soup and my boyfriend ordered the chicken piccata. The chicken salad sandwich is different from what many may be used to. It was very chunky with big chunks of grapes, apple and chicken. It was not mayo based. Interesting sandwich, that was good, but not exactly what I'm used to. The chicken piccata was delicious and so was the soup! We also ordered an assortment of pastries. The kolaches are massive! The bread is so soft. All of the baked goods were great, but I recommend the peanut butter cookie and cranberry muffin. Everything tasted very fresh and homemade.
