I found it to be spaciousness enough to fit all my sisters (assuming that they were all here with me.) A pool table in the back, strong drinks on the side, and enough places to sit to enjoy all the activity. I easily made friends with people whose names I totally don't remember. Good times. read more

I'm not sure if this bar is my excuse for going to Monk's on a busy weekend night, just so I can guzzle a few cheap cocktails while waiting for a table, or if Monk's is my excuse to have a reason to stop here. Either way, Delirium may not be the best destination bar, but it is one of my favorite pitstops on the way elsewhere. Cheap, cheap drinks, the bartenders flex strong pouring muscles, and service is rendered fairly and quickly. I almost wasn't sure if I was reviewing the right place because a lot of the older reviews were so highly rated. First of all, there's a $5 cover, which I immediately regretted paying for approximately 0.2 seconds after I walked in. I don't understand why there's a cover to begin with, as this place was not particularly packed and/or poppin. Secondly, the bar is cash only. I know cash is king but who really carries cash with them nowadays? The only cash I really had went toward the stupid cover. There is a dj and a back room to dance, but like everywhere else, it's super hot in there and super crowded...something about it made me feel like I was attending a college house party, which is definitely not my thing anymore. The bar itself looked old and outdated as well. A couple positives worth mentioning though, is that the drinks are supposedly cheap. There's a single pool table that we were able to use while we were there. And although we hardly went into the back room, the music was a decent mix of hip hop/r&b/pop. Also, because it wasn't so crowded it was very easy to grab a seat and table. I like Delirium mainly because it's pretty simple: cheap drinks, dive bar atmosphere filled with hipsters, and an awesome bathroom decor hahha. There is a dance floor but I wasn't too interested as the internal temperature of the bar was pretty hot. And this was in October. Stalwart neighborhood Mission bar. Not too crowded this Saturday night. Decent beers and stiff drinks although they're not the housemadesyrupswithherbswegrowourselves craft cocktails and they don't even make an attempt to make a Manhattan and serve it in the correct glass even though the correct glass is right damn there. Still, that's part of the charm of the place. It's full of people the Google bus people haven't priced out of the Mission yet which is awesome. This is my favorite dive bar in SF. Cheap drinks, cool neighborhood. Cool bartenders. The drinks are cheap did I mention that? In case you can't tell this place is too run down for stupid techies so no Patagonia yuppies with craft cocktails here. This is the kind of place that plays White Zombie so come in and drink up and forget about how the rest of San Francisco has turned into an angry cupcake shop. I always really enjoy going to Delerium. The bar is pretty small and divy but it has a lot of character. They do a great pineapple drink (it's super dangerous, the pineapple masks the vodka well!) that I always get. I believe it's called the Russian Splash. They also have a pool table and dance room with a DJ in the back. If you're with a bunch of friends who are outgoing, it can be fun! I wouldn't pay an entry / door fee to get in as there's tons of other great bars within a block, but if it's free, definitely give it a shot! read more

I want to hate this place so bad. I really do. It is gross., filthy, and about 110 degrees inside. The back room must get to about 120. Last Friday I was in this place and there were 5 people in one stall doing coke. It was gross. Not that I have any moral problem with it. It is just so obvious, you are better off doing that stuff in the back room it is so dark. I recomend coming in at about 10pm with 10 people and getting a small zone in the back room. Then you can have a place to set your drink down and meet up with your people. It smells like smoke and you will smell aweful when you leave. The music is loud and the crowd is fairly obnoxious. The only way to fight this placce is to get down to its level. Get drunk. Get high. Get your ass moving. Get into someones way. Spill drinks. Spill blood. Whatever. I've walked by Delirium plenty of times getting off of BART, but never felt tempted to go in, mainly because it looks tiny and it seems to always be filled with huge bikers in the day time, but it was my friend's birthday celebration this weekend and birthday boy wanted to hit up Delirium, so to Delirium we went! When we got there, a few guys were being tossed out, an angry, drunk chick was trying to fight them through the bouncers, it was dark and dingy, yet incredibly crowded and it turns out that there's an additional room in the back where people can dance and there was a beer-gutted drag queen dancing his/her heart out on stage all by his/her lonesome in a skirt so mini that even little hot biological female me wouldn't be caught dead in it. We may have gone to five bars that night (and none of the others were very memorable), but I'm 100% sure that Delirium was at least 95% responsible for me showing strangers my underwear and for all the other debauchery that occurred that evening. Oh man.... Darn you, Delirium, and your entertaining bar fights, dancing drag queens and your cheap, incredibly stiff drinks! Joe Francis would've been so proud of us. read more

This is part of what I'm going to refer to as my "Old Haunts Revisited" series. . .places I used to hang when I first moved to SF but haven't been to in years (has to be 5+ years to qualify). I used to go to the Albion. Life was a lot different back then well, for me anyway. Not much has changed for this dive other than the name. Still nice and "divey". Still cool mission kids (now called hipsters). Still cool well-mixed drinks. Still random scary looking people (notsomuch their clothes or overall appearance but more a crazy eye look type of scary). Still dark and dingy just like a good dive bar should be. Went on a Monday night and had the best vodka gimlet ever. Main thing that has changed is I felt old-er but that's okay. Not sure I could do a Friday or Saturday night here but Monday night was perfect. . .not too crowded but just enough people to make me feel like I was supported in my Monday night cocktail. I like Delirium a lot and when I was boyfriend-less, often would go on dates here because it's just divey enough & the drinks are strong and reasonably priced (& thus, I would feel better about boys buying drinks for me). During the week & during the day, this is a fun, un-pretentious drinker's bar. So, for that, it gets a nice 3 stars. A word about the bathrooms for all of you germophobes: I hope you realize that your nether regions are about 1,000 times cleaner than your hands or your face, so please stop whining about the bathrooms. The back dance room is dirty and grimy, smoky and sweaty.... YUM! Good professional bartenders typically get you served in the order you belly up with relatively stiff drinks. The music is outstanding. Everyone knows that this place can get extremely crowded, so it should be no surprise nor disappointment when it is. For as often as I've been here - for as drunk as I've been here - for as awfully as I dance here - for as often as my testosterone rose to Canseco like levels here - for as many girls as I've said inappropriate things to here - I've NEVER been in a fight here. Delirium is my dive bar. We all have one, and this is mine. Remember when it was called The Albion and there was porn the TVs instead of sports? Ahhh... the good old days. This bar has stood the test of time though... the core crowd is still rough and tumble and the drinks are cheap and strong. I still get too wasted, and I still end up dancing on tables and booths. My favorite night is Saturday, when the back room turns into a haven for children of the 80s. Where else can you chain smoke and dance to Prince, New Order and Fugazi all in one place? Then you stumble to the smaller room at the back and join the other hipsters dancing in a state of violent excitement to the blaring music of the punk rock dj. Last evening, DYL at Casanova was getting tame around 10 pm. I realized as a regular DYLer, I must do my bit and raise the energy of the crew esp. since this is a very important weekend as we are celebrating the birthdays of Autumn K and Drew C. So I motivated the troops to get around the block a bit and come to Delirium. Slowly, we liquor up and start enjoying the smoking at the backroom. People start trickling in and suddenly, at 11 pm, there is a Cinderella moment and everyone gets crazy on the dance floor. Yelpers and others start shaking their nasties, making out, grinding one another, snorting coke, the list goes on. Sometimes in life we need a release from rules and give full expression to our inner frustrations , that is why there is a strong need for a place like Delirium in the eco-system of San Francisco. read more

It has been hit or miss here with me. I have had really good experiences on Saturday nights at this place. There seems to be a lot of cool people out to have fun and dance to the 80s tunes. On the other hand, the place has been pretty dead and dull before. Consider that when I go, I want to release some energy for cheap. Delirium is always good for hanging out. It's cheap, has dancing, and not overly crowded. Definitely one of the places I spend the most time in when in the Mission. read more

Here are some things I like about delerium. 1. They sold me a pint of Trumer for 3.50. I'm pretty sure they offer this pricing to everyone and if there was a happy hour is was long over at that point. Sure, after a while all the drinks started coming in plastic cups, but that's ok because the place kind of feels like a high school party if you went to a school for hip grimy kids. 2. They security cameras are connected to a monitor right behind the bar, so you can sit and keep an eye on everything that's going on inside and out from the comfort of your bar stool. I'm kind of surprised at how much I loved this idea; you'll learn things about yourself at Delerium. 3. They'll play Teen Age Riot in the smoking lounge in the back. Well, they did once and they probably will again at some point. I'm sure there are other reasons to go there if you love loud divey bars, but these were the real standouts for me. read more

I've been to Delirium for drinks and I've been here for dancing and I've got to say that this place is much better for the latter. The bar area is too narrow and it gets crowded really easily. I recommend drinking a lot of alcohol elsewhere and then when you are sufficiently sloshed, heading over to Delirium and dancing like there's no tomorrow. The back room, where the dancing is located, is small and it gets really hot, so be prepared to get very sweaty...it'll be worth it though, just try and dance in front of one of the fans. The music is good and the people are fun...I especially love the hot mess of a drag queen that was getting down all by her lonesome on stage. You go girl! read more

I am so upset. When I lived here two years ago, Delerium was my go-to place for fun 80's dance music. I craved it and went all the time. Tonight I went to Delerium to dance. I got my whole crew together and we were so ready to roll. We weren't the only ones. The back room was pretty packed with people who were waiting to jam out to Depeche Mode and other goodies. Instead, all we got was angry death metal. I asked the DJ what was up and I swear I thought he was going to eat me - he was so scary. When my female friend approached him he said, "I am a very depressed man. If I had a nickel for every time somebody told me I sucked, I would be rich." He then proceeded to proposition her. And even after that he played CRAPPY music. So many people peered in, confused, and he just wanted to screw us; for us to be as depressed as he was. And, he succeeded. Except not really. I have a good job and a good life. So, screw you DJ, and screw you, Delerium. read more

Somehow, inevitably whomever I go with to The Mission always wants to either start or end at this bar. Always. There are soooo many other bars in the area, yet my friends are drawn here. It's a chill dive bar to grab a beer and play some bar pool in the back, because before 10:30 p.m. the place is empty, so that's where we started our pub crawl this time. We hung out for a bit, but after an hour, we were ready to move on. There is a limit to the amount of times you must step aside while you're playing pool as people try to walk past you in their attempt to find the bathroom, only to discover that it's a doorway to nowhere. The bathroom is around the corner from the bar, people! Come 10:30 p.m., it starts filling up to the point that you're packed in like a sardine if you weren't lucky enough to grab a table. I've found the bartenders to be okay, however I've always just ordered a beer on tap and also had my ID at the ready, so that might have helped. read more

OK so I love dive bars. Let me rephrase that, I love cheap drinks, good music, and not having to worry about spilling on some chick who will freak out about her "expensive shoes!". But what happens when you can't get a drink to save your life and it's so crowded you can't hear the music? what kind of bar is that? My problem with Delirium is partly my own doing. I should have listened to my Yelp buddies when you warned me about the crowds on Saturday nights. After waiting over 10 mins. to get a drink, I managed to work my way to the back of delirium at which point it earns it's two stars.
