I was skeptical about trying this place since nothing on the menu really appealed, but I decided to give it a go because my family wanted to come here for lunch. Boy was this the worst decision we could've made today. I actually ended up losing my appetite after trying to nibble at my food. Our first sign to turn around and leave should've been the fact that no one was there, and it was prime lunch time. But instead, we continued to order our food and opted to dine in. I tried to eat the gyudon bowl, but it was practically inedible due to the lack of flavor and off smell of the meat. The katsu curry was also a bust, except for the katsu which was sub par at best. The curry looked chunky and was also inedible due to the fruity flavor. Since when did curry have a fruit flavor?! The best item was probably the miso salmon, but something smelled quite fishy when our food arrived--either it was coming from another item being cooked up in the kitchen or it was the salmon...hard to tell, but that was super unappetizing. Even the potato salad, salad dressing, and pickled vegetables were terrible. We left most of our food and left to try to get our lunch fix elsewhere. I left with such a bad taste in my mouth and needed a strong mint. Just yuck! I honestly wish I could've gotten my money back. Please do yourselves a favor and eat elsewhere. I was going to Kapiolani Medical Center, so I wanted to pick up dinner from someplace close. I checked Yelp and found Dell's, and the menu looked good. I called in my order, and it was ready by the time I got there 15 minutes later. They are located on the Ewa corner of McCully and Young Streets and share's the same bldg with Mio Pastalogy. I was a bit confused at first since I only saw the Dell's food truck in the parking lot, but then saw the sign on the bldg, next to Mio's. The entrance is in the middle of the bldg and there are two counters. The one in the right is for Mio's, and the left is Dell's. Unfortunately, I didn't take any food shots since I we ate in the hospital, but their website is pretty accurate. I ordered an Ahi Katsu plate and a Chicken Karaage plate. They both came with pickled vegetables, rice, and potato salad. The ahi was seared with a light panko crust, and the chicken was crispy on the outside and still moist. The pickled veggies were really good, too. It's a great spot, with great Japanese style food at a reasonable price. read more

This is my second time at Dell's Kitchen! The first time was in the middle of the week and their Omu Rice, the object of my affection, is apparently only available on Sundays. If this is the only information you receive from this review, you're welcome! If you like Omurice, or you've never had it and this photo looks good, then you must carve out a Sunday to come taste this mound. The egg was perfectly cooked and blanketed her with decadence. The fried rice tucked away was well endowed with bacon AND arabiki sausage. The pops of corn in there was such a nice sweet excitement amongst the onion and green pepper medley. My only critique is there could've been more gravy. But maybe it is the drawback of ordering to go! Next time, I'm bringing a few friends and dining in! Let me tell you, there was more than one mound! That's mounds!!! The potato salad was fluffy and chunky at the same time. You'll see what I mean at first bite! I also appreciated that it was salty only in the slightest. It was a fresh accompaniment to other, more savory parts of the dish. Like the coleslaw! Wow! I have been here to Dell's several times over the months and years of its existence, and have watched it evolve into what it has become today, which I can only characterize as a space still in transition. At first, instead of only Dell's, there was also Mio's Pastaology operating out of a counter at the far right of the space. And there was no dining area but had temporary screens blocking off a substantial area of the floor which appeared to only be used as a storage area for extra kitchen supplies. Now Mio's Pastaology, which I tried twice and thought had dishes which lacked flavor and were disappointing, no longer exists. I am not sure if the absence of flavor or some other qualities, or lack thereof, contributed to its demise, but there appears to be some temporary construction activity where Mio's used to exist, which may again transform the floor of this restaurant and bakery. In any event, it appears a couple of Mio's dishes have made it to Dell's menu board. The draw to me is Dell's pastry counter which always has some great tasting items. I would advise you to throw caution to the wind and try items you might not think of purchasing. The fillings in the pastries are ample. Not sparse, not minimal, but ample. I mean filling in every bite ample. Not like a salmon musubi you buy at um, that store, with so little salmon hiding in the center of a huge musubi that you forget what kind of musubi you were eating until you get to the center. If it's a custard filled purple roll you buy at Dell's, you will get custard in every. single. mouthful. If it is a bacon and cheese baguette (not really a baguette but a big muffin looking roll), you will get bacon and cheese in every bite. Ample. The plate lunches have also gone through a transition. The miso salmon plate is my current favorite. The lunch plates have a Japanese version of potato salad which needs a little salt but is otherwise pretty good. There is also a small salad of finely shredded greens with a vinagrette style dressing. The pickled vegetables have been tamed, and taste great now that the overpowering taste of vinegar has been abandoned. And the entree has some carrot flowers and stuff to prettify the presentation as Japanese places tend to do. But be sure to check out the counter near the register before you order. There is usually a special of the day displayed there quietly. It appears to be bargain priced and what you see is hopefully what you will get because the serving size appears to be ample. For example, the daily special was salmon belly and when I got home and opened my container of miso salmon, the salmon belly had about 3x as much salmon as the miso salmon for around $5 less. Not that I am complaining, I like the miso salmon and have ordered it multiple times. Anyway, when you are in the McCully - Young St. intersection area, you need to stop in at Dell's and buy something. Oh, and sometimes they have pre-prepared (is that a word or just redundancy) salmon musubi for grab and go, with ample salmon in every bite. read more

I visited this spot three years ago and was glad I left a review back then but now I'm even happier I came back. I should've grabbed more bread because I'm pretty sure this place has the best bread on Oahu. So many other spots on the island feel overhyped, but this one truly delivers. They're just conveniently next to Mio Pastology (same owner too) which I plan to grab pasta next time I'm in the area. Anyway, dine in is available (few tables available) and menu is limited so it's easy to pick an order. Friendliest customer as of the moment and service is superb except for the waiting time. Kinda took them a bit to get your order. So if you're really hungry and want an immediate meal (unless you have great patience) I suggest to head to 7-Eleven or on-the-go displayed bento somewhere else. Food Miso Salmon - the salmon itself is tender and ain't dry at all. It was marinated in miso and grilled to perfection. Comes with a scoop of white rice, tossed salad, mashed potato, and a few of boiled broccoli. The salmon is topped with sesame seeds & scallion. I enjoyed it and since we are not living far from the area I was still able to munch 'em while it's still warm. So the experience was great and I did enjoy my order. This is review is long over due. Dell's Kitchen is one my goto spots for an affordable plate local/japanese food. I've tried their Kawagoe Karaage, Kurobuta Pork Katsu, and Nori Chicken. The Karaage is my favorite and the most affordable as well. It comes with a sweet mustard dipping sauce, a coleslaw type salad, rice, and some other veggies. The portions are generous. And they have a dining area inside with complimentary water. They also have a sister restaurant next door that serves pasta dishes. Highly recommend this restaurant if in the mood for some good tasting and affordable local Japanese food. read more

Place also has its own bakery and pasta section that allows you to custom your pasta to your liking. This place shares an establishment with a pasta joint. Dell's Kitchen door entrance is on the left. Place is the old Aunty's Ramen or across Torae Torae for other landmarks. Service was very friendly when my friends and I arrived on Saturday morning. We first looked at the bakery side and decided on the pans (bread). The owner used to run the old Kit and Kitchen! So food taste and recipes you know will be delicious! Food here seems to be made after you order. There is an ample amount of tables available for dine in. The pans were moist and were at an ideal taste. I strongly recommend the one that looks like chocolate lol. It has coffee cake vibe so great with your warm bev. Among the four of my friends, 3 got ahi katsu and 1 got the ton katsu curry. Be sure to ask for curry on side if you prefer to dip. Breading and not being oily was on point! I love how you can actually taste the fish or pork without an after seed oil taste. Portions were good, the sprinkle of ume powder is also a nice touch. The only thing I would ask for is more salad dressing on the cabbage. Other than that, I would I love to try more things off their menu! read more

Ok. I just happened to see this truck parked in Kakaako today and decided to give them a try. I am a fan of fish n chips so I ordered the fried calamari with fries. It was bomb. I think the plate is priced fair. The shiso seasoned thin fries were excellent. The calamari was even better. I tried the tartar sauce and the Dave's sauce the Dave's sauce had a spicy bite on the back end but it was tasty. Didn't care for the tartar sauce much though. Best of luck to these guys. Amazing plate lunch spot with a great selection of local favorites, vegan options and delicious baked goods. We got the Omurice special and the BBQ Chicken plate. Love their Japanese style potato salad with oshinko. The BBQ chicken was well executed, fresh, juicy with great char and flavor. The Onurice stole the show. Expertly cooked soft omelet over an arabaki sausage fried rice with a delicious mushroom sauce on the side. We also sampled two of their house-made musubi which were great. My family enjoys the quality plate lunches from Dell's Kitchen. We get takeout from here once every 1-2 months. Placing your order via phone is always a breeze and orders are usually done right on time. I usually get their miso salmon or garlic chili chicken, and always with a side order of their kawagoe gyoza (they offer this as a plate but you can ask for it as a side for a few dollars cheaper). The ginger sauce that comes with the gyoza is flavorful and has a nice kick. Ordered Ahi Katsu from Dell's Kitchen and Eggplant bolognese pasta from Mio Pastalogy. Both stores are in one clean restaurant: so convenient. Ahi Katsu: Ahi wrapped by nori and fried is very tasty and served with plenty of vegetables: I loved it. In the same space with Mio Pastalogy. They have a bakery and Japanese/local lunch plate. Dining is available now. The bakery made my eyes twinkle, I love bread! There were so many options of savory and sweet bread. Breads that I never even had before. Ordered four different items: chili con carne, pork croquette bread, melon pan, and spicy curry. Pastry is around $3-4. I suggest toasting the bread when you get home, would taste much better. My favorite was the chili con carne. The other bread was pretty yummy. Even though the bread was sitting there, the texture was still soft and not dry. We also ordered a tonkatsu curry lunch plate $15. The tonkatsu was pretty thick and juicy, very crispy. Curry was sweet and a little spicy. The potato salad and the salad dressing were a bit on the sour side, didn't really like it. Of course, I'll be back for the bread and lunch plates. Thank you to Peter Y. who gifted me with a delicious melon pan. This pan lead me to Dell's Kitchen and Bakery to purchase plate lunches for the UH game opener. All the plates which was assembled nicely were devoured so sorry , no pics. I had a bit of the chicken karaage which was very salty from maybe finishing salt (?)...minus 1 star. The restaurant itself appears very clean. Plates ready in the estimated time given when placing the order. Lots of parking right in front. The breads and pastries that I bought received rave reviews. No melon pan though. I did try the Dammann Frères Tropical Tea and found it refreshing. FYI the tea was not sweetened for those who care. The dining room seems open for dining in as there was a dispenser of chilled water. Btw there is a 15¢ charge for a plastic cup. Overall a very great takeout dining experience. Check out their Sunday Omurice special!!!!! It's basically this Japanese dish with fluffy eggs on top of fried rice and honestly it was so good. They gave a lil potato salad on the side too, which surprisingly went really well with it. They only do this special on Sundays, so if you're there for brunch or breakfast, you should definitely try it. I'd say it's probably one of the best Omurice I've had. Not sure how I haven't written a review of this place yet. When they opened about 4-5 years ago, it was pretty cheap. The salmon plates were about $13. Now they are $18. The great thing about this place is the other side is Mio's Pastalogy. And in the middle is the bakery. So if you come here with friends, there's something for everyone. Supposedly its the same owner as Vein in Kakaako. Its worth it though. The presentation and quality is really good. It would not seem out of place at a really nice restaurant. For the last few weeks, they have started plating the food for dine in customers which makes the presentation even nicer. I got the Salmon Katsu, no rice, all salad. It came out quickly, was delicious and was beautifully presented. The flash fried kale garnish is so yummy.. Been going to Dell's and Mio's just shortly after they opened. Ordering online is so easy and the food is always on point. Today we decided to try 2 things we haven't had before, the fried rice and the gyoza. Fried rice was ono and subtly flavored, and the gyoza was accompanied with a sweet mustard sauce and great also. Two nice surprises though: the potholes in the parking lot have been filled and Dell's has a food truck in the parking lot serving fried entrees and musubis. I attempted to dine here once and they were closed. Fast forward a year or so, I ended up here again. Not by choice and totally by coincidence. On the bright side of things, I was finally able to try Dell's Kitchen and Bakery. Luckily I found an open stall right in front of their door. They do have a private lot with ample parking but I'm lazy lol. We liked them so much we went back again the next 2 days and I got the same parking stall lol. 3 days in a row? 4.5 stars! There are three sections to the place. On the far right facing the restaurant is another business (Mio Pastalogy), middle is the bakery display cases and left is Dell's Kitchen. You pay for the bakery goods and food on the left at the cashier. I'm not sure if it's COVID related but they had limited tables to dine on inside. There were dividers blocking off a good portion of the restaurant. It was still spacious, clean and simple. Menu was easy to understand and customer service was friendly. They were quite helpful in helping me decide on what to order. I was told no MSG and everything is made from scratch. I ended up ordering their Chicken Katsu Curry per the cashier's recommendation, Gyudon Bowl for Mink, 1 Chocolate and 2 Cream Custard baked items. The Chicken Katsu Curry was quite good and very filling. They fried the chicken perfectly and it was so moist inside. The curry was flavorful and not oily. Wish they put it all over the rice. I also stole a bite of the Gyudon Bowl and it was good. Not the best I've had but above average. The Cream Custard baked item was better than expected. It wasn't too sweet and it was creamy. The bread reminded me of a Hawaiian sweet roll. What a pleasant surprise! The second time we came, we just ordered baked goods. On the third visit, I ordered the Garlic Chili Chicken with a side of Seafood Croquette and Mink ordered their Gyudon Bowl again. We also got some Cream Custard and a Blueberry Cream. The Garlic Chili Chicken was good but the Seafood Croquettes were delicious! It came with 3 pieces and were fried perfectly. Squeezing a splash of lemon on them and it was the perfect side. Of the two chicken dishes, I liked the Chicken Katsu Curry a lot more but I like curry. How did I not know they were here?! Apparently even my mom knew! My clients suggested this place to me when we were trying to figure out a good lunch spot and also for catering! The first time I came here I ordered the salmon katsu. It was nicely fried and the portions were good sized. My clients and colleague all ordered the miso salmon which also looked delicious too. We also got the cheese and mentaiko baguettes to share and the bread was nice and pillow-y! I loved it! I do like mentaiko but I think I'll stick to it with pasta not bread but the cheese bread was amazing! The service is all on you since you just go up to the counter to order it and they bring your food to the table. They have a cooler for water and that's sufficient for me. I can fill up as many times as I want! We were also having a friend hangout that weekend and my clients suggested that I get the Dell's party platter (it had chicken karaage, nori chicken, short rib, gyoza, miso salmon, ahi katsu, soy ginger beef, and seafood croquette). It was $80 and it served 4-5 people (but my clients assured me that it could feed twice that). We had about 30 people but we had SOOOOOOO much leftovers with the 3 platters I ordered. Yes, I made everyone make a salad/appetizer/dessert but this was a lot of food and I think 2 platters would have been more than enough! It was good. I'd definitely order it again. It was way better than the Zippy's platter and fed way more people too! read more
