For the rice that is under the egg is a good amount, it has more ingredients than the typical omurice.($12.50) There's a local flare to it in that it has Portuguese sausage and arabiki. It also has corn, bell pepper and onion. The way the rice is fried, there is a smokiness to it(wok hay). The gravy on top is ok, don't think it matches the rice. Egg was good, could be a little more fluffier. Cheesecake($5.50)is like a regular cheesecake, there did seem to have little lemon zest in it, but couldn't really taste it. This is a really convenient place to pick up food for all your meals! Three different food purveyors in one stop! Conveniently, we ordered dinner plates to go and while we were waiting for the kitchen to prepare them, we checked out pastries and buns for dessert and then breakfast for the next day. And then we checked out the fresh pasta to cook for dinner the next day's dinner. I don't know how they came up with this mash-up, but it worked perfectly for us, as our cousin was getting off work and we met up with him here. If they sold personal computers here, it would justify the name and I wouldn't be surprised. After ordering at the register, we walked over to the bakery section and picked out buns to fill a box for dessert and breakfast. Next to the register is usually a sample special of the day and it was grilled pork, so we got one. Among us, we also had Miso Salmon, Grilled Kalbi and Tonkatsu plates, each with a scoop of rice, mac salad and shredded cabbage salad. Everytime we come to Hawaii, I have to have Loco Moco at least once and I got a bonus scoop of rice! The gravy over the hamburger patty was good and mixed well with the runny fried egg, but the patty had a burnt taste. A step up from your average plate lunch, the food here is really good! The aforementioned step up comes from a couple of things. First, so far all of entrees I have tried from here so far have been good (discussed below). Second, the plates come with a scoop of house potato salad and namasu. This is certainly a nice change from the average scoop of mac salad (however, nothing wrong with mac salad tho, everyone knows I'm the mac daddy, known to order all mac at Zippys). Online ordering is convenient and parking is easy in the building's parking lot. Food I have tried: Miso salmon - very tasty miso flavor and salmon is juicy and well cooked. Loco Moco - generous portion of beef (it was the shape of a potato instead of a regular patty) and tasted homemade. The meat had a hard outside, but tender inside. Never encountered this before but it was fine, just required the use of a plastic knife to cut instead of just using my fork. The egg was a bit crispy on the edges, but the yoke was a runny over-easy consistency. Gyu Don Bowl - tasty beef that was a bit fatty (as it should be), and not tough or stringy. It did not give the pull until it smacks you in the face vibes. Chicken Katsu Curry - small portion of chicken, but tasty, and the curry had a unique flavor--somewhere between Japanese curry and Indian curry. Soy Ginger Chicken - tasty chicken that was moist and cut up for me (basically a "good" teriyaki chicken). Garlic Chili Chicken - basically a tasty garlic chicken, that was deep fried to a crispy crunch. My favorite of the above was the miso salmon, and I would recommend trying any of the above items. On the hunt for commute-convenient meals to pick up on the way home, I remembered Dell's. There are two easy freeway exit options from H-1 east (Punahou or Bingham) both of which are pretty great. Efficient staff, tons of free parking, easy in and out, and online ordering and payment (name your pickup time!) make pick up a breeze. Though the adjacent pasta shop got all the early social media love, it's the Japanese/local side of the establishment that I like best. Plates are not L&L sized but they are also affordable with complete meals in the $10 range or so. The menu is great and even the pickiest of eaters will find something to their liking. Food comes out exactly as it looks online with an entree item, potato salad, and a tasty shredded cabbage salad. Nice touches like a bed of fresh spinach leaves, little carrot flowers, and thin slices of fresh beets make the meals pretty and extra. :) This time we had the Beyond Burger hamburger steak and the garlic chili chicken. Both were terrific! Check out the daily specials posted to Instagram each day, too. I saw all the flags and decided to look around. They didn't have any take out menus available, so I snapped a few pictures and left. I was on my way home and decided to call in my order, the karaage and gyoza. It was ready within 20 minutes, very convenient. After trying the karaage and gyoza, I was hooked. The mustard sauce is amazing! I do not, however, care for their potato salad. Instead I opt for more of the cabbage salad. Over the week, I went back two more times. This time I got the Tonkatsu. It was thick, moist, fried perfectly, and yummy. The sides and salad were added to the flavors. However, the Bread Pudding was the highlight of this lunch. They were friendly and attentive. At the moment, you can order only take-out. Outside seating on little tables were lined up on the walkway for out-door dining. Right next to the glass case of pastries there was another restaurant Mio Pastaology that served pasta ramen. I ordered the Aurora Shrimp. Both restaurants owned by the same company. First came a couple months ago for the pastries they serve daily and always NEVER manage to get a pic since they're all snatched up by the family before I can even pick my own! After reading all of the positive Yelp reviews we decided to come here for lunch and to try some of their dishes. This was on a whim that I now wish I had been able to ignore. The parking lot was empty and there were just a couple of people waiting for takeout. We should have tried just one dish to see how it went, but nooo, we had to try everything that sounded, key word, Sounded, good. We try to support local, but I honestly don't know how this place got such great reviews. I told the cashier how bad the food was before we left and showed her that we left almost all of our food because the taste was so off. Even the gyudon beef bowl was inedible, the sauce, the meat, the whole thing was so off-tasting. I wish Yelpers would be more honest with reviews. Tried their blueberry bread and it was so delicious and soft. So, this time, I wanted to try their plate lunches and here's my take: 1- Pork chop: Pork was tender, but seasoned with a heavy hand; too salty for my palate. Did not particularly care for grilled pork chops either, but it's healthier than deep fried. 2- Hayashi beef: was definitely my favorite. Reminiscent of old style beef stew with a tangy sauce. Large cuts of onions and white mushrooms in a tomato paste base with thin teriyaki style beef cuts. Did not care for the fat, but the sauce was a good distraction. I would go back for this and ask for EXTRA EXTRA gravy all over the rice, and then some MORE over the potato salad! Yes, this one packs a punch of goodness that will send you back for more! This could very well be the signature plate lunch. 3-Kalbi: tasty yes, but not incredibly special or different from others. I don't think I would order this again. 4-Tuna sandwich: their fresh plain bread is better than the tuna itself. The tuna was a bit watery for my liking. But it help to curb my hunger pangs as I patiently wait for my plate lunches. 5-Musubi: Rice was soggy! Filling was ma-ma desu. Musubi connoisseurs would throw this into the garbage. Use your money towards the plate lunch instead. Or maybe try the custard desserts. Free parking on site. Bakery goodies looked yummy. Perhaps I'll explore that section next time. Overall clean. Hand sanitizers available. Social distancing acknowledged by customers. Serving size is MEDIOCRE based on our local standards so in my opinion, the price point is not the best. Food has always been good with everything I've ordered. Service is quick. There is always enough space to dine in. The only catch is parking which I never blame on any particular business only cuz Hawaii isn't exactly known for having a lot of space. If driving, make sure you're aware of the time you go - there might not be parking. If you have a driver, hopping out and grabbing a to-go order works, too. We went to this restaurant a half a dozen times. The food was good at first and the price of the chicken is reasonable I guess that was a good day. But the last few times we went it seemed to get progressively bad. The third time my pasta was soggy and tasteless, but everything else was ok . The last time we went the salad tasted bitter like it was spoiled and they seemed to have dump an huge amount of salt into the chicken so it wasn't edible unless you wanted high blood pressure. Dell's Kitchen and Bakery is located in the former "Aunty's Ramen" and in the same restaurant as Mio Pastalogy. I give this restaurant 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. Some of their menu items are a little high priced, but they also have items that are regular priced. Like for example, I feel like the kawagoe gyoza is really expensive. $9.50 for gyoza costs just as much as a gyudon plate. I really wanted to try their gyoza, but wasn't about to pay that much just for a side dish. I opted for their daily special, which was omurice with beef stew and it comes with green/cabbage salad, potato salad, a couple pieces of pickled beets, and a small mound of kimchee for $14. A little pricey but totally worth it because it's a whole plate not just a side dish. The rice inside of the omurice has bell peppers, onions, corn & sausage. Very tasty and the egg was made just right. The beef stew was so good. The meat was super tender and broke apart easily and the gravy went well with the rice. The side dishes even accompanied the meal so well. I also ordered their breads - anpan, blueberry cream cheese, and salt butter. The salt butter is still my favorite one! It's nothing fancy, but it's so soft in the inside, flaky on the outside, and the top has just the right amount of salt to enjoy with the bread. I haven't dug into the anpan yet, but the blueberry cream cheese bread was soft and has a huge chunk of cream cheese in the middle (yummy!). The workers are very very nice and friendly. There was a lot of people on the Dell's Kitchen side, but I didn't see anyone go to the Mio side while we were there. Personally, I really like both. I only got around to trying the plate lunches from here recently, mostly because I never make it past the pasta and bakery in the same building. Out of everything I got, my favorite was the tonjiru, a pork and vegetable miso soup that was on special. It tasted soo comforting and everything about it was on point. For my main I got the hayashi rice, but honestly enjoyed my boyfriend's loco moco way more and wish I got that instead. They use a "kabayaki gravy" which doesn't really taste like kabayaki to me but rather just a sweeter version of brown gravy. But it works, and goes well with their thick hamburger patty. As for the hayashi rice, it left something to be desired. It tasted like it should have been simmered for longer. The onions were still crunchy and not nearly as soft as the onions in the loco moco gravy. The beef as well, could have used more time to absorb the flavors. Their hayashi sauce is more tomato-y than what I'm used to, but the flavor was good. I appreciate the inclusion of cabbage salad, potato salad and pickled vegetables with every plate. Prices are pretty reasonable too. Their menu is quite expansive and so many things sound good. I will definitely be back to try more of their options in the future! read more

This little shop is located next to Mio Pastalogy (the old location of Aunty Ramen). They have their own little parking lot that can fill up if it's lunch hour, but most times there's always a space. There are a few seating areas outside of the shop for customers to eat. They leave a note letting people know if the table has been sanitized, which is good. Service was decent. I didn't have to wait long for someone to assist me with what I wanted from the display case of assort baked goods. And the person was fast with packing and ringing me up. I only got their baked goods since I had my eye on the pasta next door. I ordered the following: Focaccia Bread, Hot Dog Bun, Nutella Bread, Custard Pan, Mentaiko, and I believe a Cheese bread. The prices are a little steep, but worth a try. My favorite was the Mentaiko bread. Surprisingly, they pack it will Mentaiko! The bread is so soft and sweet, complimenting the salty fish roe filling. The Focaccia Bread was actually pretty salty and denser than I'm used to. I had it with my pasta and it didn't really soak up the sauce which was disappointing. The Nutella Bread was so disappointing! There was barely any Nutella filling, it was mostly bread and what was weird was that it wasn't sweet. The bread was on the salty side. The custard bread was also weird because the custard wasn't completely set. When I shook the box, the custard shook like jello and when I pulled the bread apart the custard was liquidy. "The answer to the pandemic- a delicious pan" Had a chance to stop by Dell's recently to try both parts- a little of the kitchen and a little of the bakery. First the bakery- most of their sweet items are based on a sweet bread pan base and the pan bread is super soft. Truly like biting into a cloud. After seeing super yelper Fran C missing out on the custard pan, I decided to try the Creme custard pan along with the almond pan and the chocolate pan. The Creme custard filling used in the first two was to me, reminiscent of local style Chantilly filling used in cakes. A sweeter consistency than a regular custard filling. That paired with the oh, so soft pan bread went perfectly with a hot cup of coffee. The chocolate pan had two rolls of chocolate down the middle, a nice choice if you are craving chocolate. Not as sweet as the custard pan choices, but quite delicious. The pan offerings top out at $3 each, a nice price. For the savory side We also ordered the gyudon plate and the ahi katsu plate. They offer musubis which we will try the next time we stop by. The gyudon plate had the right mix of meat and fat and the poached egg to break over the meat worked well. It was reminiscent to us of the stuff you can get in Japan at the beef bowl restaurants that are dirt cheap. The quantity of the beef is small and as you can see from the pic, the starch overwhelms the plate. A little more ginger would be nice too. The potato salad and pickled veggies complimented the gyudon. They only make 10 servings a day so if you have your heart set on the gyudon plate, pay and pre-order it with their app. The ahi katsu plate was pretty good but the fish seemed a little too firm. Nice quantity. We've had better but it's still not a bad choice. Slaw came with both plates, they complemented the main offerings. The place is very clean and the employees are very courteous and friendly. They will answer you questions and are eager to please. Lots of parking so pretty easy to make your grab and go run. For us, the stars for this first encounter at Dell's were the bakery items. Will have to try other offerings later. Their pan based baked food are winnahs for sure. read more

Besides plate lunches, they also have a bakery section. Everything we've tried so far has been good. They also sell musubis, so cheap and good!! You order at the counter, and even though they pack everything in to-go containers, they also have tables to sit at. It's usually not very crowded in the sit down section. Never had to wait for a table yet. The only downside is their food takes a while, which is actually a good thing if you think about it, they cook orders fresh. From the executive chef of Vein in Kakaako, Dell Valdez, comes a new take on local style plate lunches. And new it is. It's interesting. Different. Unique. I expected a lot more from such a seasoned chef. Understanding this is a new restaurant so there are some opening hiccups however these border on dangerous: 1. Some of the "Maui Style" shortribs were seared, purple and cold and outright raw near the bone. 2. Thicker pieces of boneless soy ginger chicken were still pink (raw) inside. 3. The pork filling in the gyoza was pasty and raw in the middle. 4. The rice is undercooked and crunchy. Where cooked properly, in general teriyaki items are well marinated but very sweet approaching candy level. The gyu don lacks depth of flavor tasting almost like stewed onions. The Kawagoe gyoza (all were raw inside) but the exterior wrapper, very thick and almost gummy in texture. Odd potato salad. Very sour pickled radish, beet, and bell peppers with no seasoning other than pure vinegar and a salad of cabbage with no seasoning or dressing. All together, disappointing. Maybe a soft opening would have been in order to work out all the problems? Service is friendly. Parking plentiful. Prices are low. This occupies the former site of Aunty Ramen. Hot New Business in Moiliili, Honolulu, Hawaii! I saw on Instagram that Dell's Kitchen and Bakery was going to open next to Mio Pastalogy (where Aunty's Ramen used to be). Right after work, I drove over because according to the website, Dell's would open at 7am... Shucks... They weren't. The door opened around 7:30am for the workers and I stepped in. I got some photos of the menu and asked when they'd be open... 10:30am... Okay... I'll return! The nice young man suggested that I phone in my order at 10:15 and pick up at 10:30... That's what I did! However, I only got an answering machine... Lol! Anyway, I entered at 10:30 and it was all good. I ordered at the counter, paid, and asked if I could use the restroom. Sure! Thank goodness... because I had been driving around and staying awake for the past 3+ hours! Anyway, the young man that I first spoke with had given me a good tip: Kalbi... Ooh!!! Yummy!!! The 2 stars is due to the Hayashi Rice. Manager assured me the meat was a tender stew . Well the meat was thinly cut which was expected but it was mostly gristle and fat and difficult to chew . After reading Thomas's Mio Pastalogy article on Frolic, he mentioned that there was more to come in December! I inquired with the male worker of Mio Pastalogy on my 2nd visit when they plan to open the new gourmet local style/Asian plate lunch restaurant adjacent to Mio Pastalogy. He excitedly told me last week that the coming Friday was the opening date but that day came and went. I was told afterwards hopefully Monday will be the day. That Monday night they posted on their Instagram of their grand opening for Tuesday 12/08/20. I almost forgot to support them today on their first day but I remembered around 1 pm so in a way was perfect since I have just missed the lunch crowd. So pleased with the menu with several chicken selections and all sounded so unique and interesting but when I saw the Nori/shiso chicken, immediately wanted to try it! Shiso leaves make dishes flavorful like the spam musubi with reds/green shiso leaves found at Iyasume musubi. The worker who took my order over the phone, also enjoyed this Nori/shiso chicken dish and was pretty popular on the first day. When I had a question later this afternoon about the preparation of the chicken, I was told the chicken was sold out already. It was indeed so delicious and different. I just surprised how good it was! I just loved it! Their mantra of quality over quantity showed in their dishes today. The placement of the everything was strategically placed to make their dishes so appealing. The attention to details of the green onions over the Kalbi/Soy ginger chicken, the pink shiso flakes over the fluffy Matsuri rice added a nice touch. Always nice to have Japanese potato salad over Mac salad and the daily namasu with the colorful pickled vegetables made it pretty! The Nori/shiso chicken was marinated and lightly coated with mochiko flour. The mochiko flour made it so light and crispy yet juicy on the inside. The shiso leaves were rolled In the boneless chicken thighs. The chicken pieces was either wrapped with Nori or was inside with the shiso leaves. I didn't notice any black Nori used unless probably with the green Nori. The 4 piece chicken was placed on bed of spinach and what looked like green kale chips. I absolutely loved this dish and it was only $10.50! I do want to try the garlic chili chicken (like Korean style) and their special Kawachicken karaage. I also got their special of the day which was only $13 which included the soy garlic chicken somewhat like teriyaki chicken and their tasty kalbi. Both was tasty and flavorful! Right now it's take out only. They will have more space in the middle section for their new bakery once they get their bakery shelves. Note there's no visual sign outside but you enter the door to the far left of Mio Pastalogy. Their phone number is one digit off from the two restaurants but even if you dialed the other number, they are willing to take your order for you! Quality of food was great, and service was warm and friendly, you could tell that everything was homemade here and it does take a little bit of time as everything is prepared fresh to order. I was recommended this place by a friend who grew up here for great Hawaiian food but I only thing, I was surprised they didn't have Kalua Pork or any of that kind of food, so just check the menu before you go. There's a new kid in town .. well actually 2 in this spot! Dells is shared with mios pasta in the old aunty ramen location and both locations are running deals in the afternoon! I've been to dells twice during their promo between 3-5 which is 30% off and a free drink! So far I've tried the tonkatsu sandwich (daily special), chicken karaage and ahi katsu! All was really good! And the karaage is definitely my favorite so far! I think the ahi katsu would be better if they didn't use previously frozen fish. They also have a lot of fresh beaked breads and the foccocia with the herb butter is fantastic! Service was always friendly and there's a lot of parking out front! read more

Dell's kitchen and Bakery is located in McCully. Many great reviews brought me in to Dells kitchen where I also found Japanese baked goods and Mios Pastalogy connected next door. Due to covid, there is no dine in tables, but take out only. Social distancing and mask is observed. The baked goods looks yummy, some items I haven't seen like matcha bread and chocolate loaf. I ordered the garlic chili chicken and kalbi. Far drive home to the Windward side, the chicken was soggy, they were small pieces and the vegetable salad was drenched in dressing that didn't taste too good. The potato salad was great! I got the kalbi for my bf and it was ok. I ordered a large drink to go and it was filled only 3/4 ways, disappointed. Funny yea? There was a slight language barrier between me and the counter girl so ordering was a little difficult. read more

While we were exploring around McCully, we came across Dell's Kitchen and Bakery, located right next to Miopastology! There's ample parking up front in front of their shop. We got the Chicken Katsu Curry in which the curry and chicken katsu were on point! We also got the Garlic Chili Chicken which was more of a sweet chili than spicy chili flavor. Our plate lunches both came with a house potato salad which was a little bland, their daily namasu which was nice and crunchy, and some kind of salad/coleslaw with an interesting tasting vinaigrette. I didn't hate it, but I also didn't think it complimented the dishes very well. Overall, the main dishes were great, the sides just needed a little more work. And for a limited time, if you go to their location, any day of the week, between 3p-5p, they give you 20% off your entire order PLUS a free medium sized drink per meal. Right where Onon on McCully used to be stands Dell's Kitchen and Bakery and Mio Pastology. Virtually three businesses occupy the same space, but they seem to share the same owner. The situation is not overly complicated. This time though, I'm going to introduce Dell's Kitchen; the bakery and pasta shop will come another day. First thing is the parking lot. It's big, but seems neglected, with potholes and lacks painted lines. Walk through the front door and it's a whole different world. The floors, ceiling and counter are spotless. The kitchen, visible from the side looks squeaky clean and looks like what a restaurant with a Michelin star would look like. The menu is written overhead on the counter and the "Special of the Day" is cooked and displayed. One thing I really appreciate is the sign that says "No MSG". I get a strange reaction to MSG. First, I get extremely thirsty and after about an hour after consumption, my feet start to cramp. Sometimes all night long, robbing me of sleep. I have the peace of mind that I'm going to enjoy a good meal and have a good night's sleep. I walk in the shop, unsure of what I want. The cashier mentions the special of the day; Kim Chee Yakisoba with Kawagoe Gyoza. Ok. I'll have that! As soon as I order, I remember that I don't particularly care for spicy food.... Oh well. Looking around while waiting for my order, I see tables that seats about a couple dozen diners. The room seats at least four times that, but it's partitioned off and they seem to be using the space as their office and storage area. My food is up in about 15 minutes, which is not an unusually long time to wait. I opted for take out, so I drive home and dig in. The portion is very generous. A mountain of yakisoba with three pieces of gyoza, a shredded cabbage salad similar to cole slaw and potato salad with pickled vegetables are inside. The potato salad has a hint of dill which is nice! The yakisoba is spicy but by no means unbearably hot. For someone like me who don't like hot stuff, you will find it pretty tasty with a slight kick. The gyoza skin is crispy and the center is is very juicy. All and all, the food is delicious. And with no MSG!! I saw a few items on the regular menu that makes me want to come back for more. Maybe I'll try their pastas and baked goods too! *I got to meet the head chef, and learned that he used to run the bakery in Kahala that was located by the Greek restaurant.
