One of the Hawaiian Airlines flight attendants, Zar, immediately volunteered to go all the way back to TSA to retrieve it for me before the aircraft door closed. He absolutely didn't have to do that, but he made it a priority and went above and beyond to help. I am incredibly grateful for his kindness and willingness to help. Thank you, Zar, for turning what could have been a travel disaster into a story of outstanding customer service. You made my week!

They cut off several people from getting through security when we're checking in for our flight then everything was so delayed it didn't make sense. The days of leis and good food are over. I know they just merged with Alaska hopefully things get better? We will probably choose delta or maybe even...southwest!! Ugh Flight attendants were very nice though!

Pretty much overpriced but I bought some small souvenirs. The departure gates seem to be air conditioned but not all it seems. The area in the central area is non air conditioned but if you sit outside the air conditioned shops, you can catch the ac. tip: the one with the travel pillows outside has the coolest ac (checked them all out):) Bathrooms are clean and plentiful. Check ins have to pass through an agricultural inspection prior to checking in. Hand carries have an agricultural check prior to the gate you are going to. But, packaged food items are ok. Not fruits/ veggies.

Since this is a red eye, boarding group one and better seats for an overnight flight, it sounds great. My second first class flight in 40 plus years. That was also Hawaii. Jennifer at the counter was extremely rigid about every pound over the limit and had a noticeably harsh attitude throughout. I was traveling with two small kids, already carrying multiple items, and dealing with delays from the Kona storms, so the lack of flexibility or empathy made an already stressful situation much worse. Being told she was "documenting our reservation" only added to the tension. I get it, Jennifer doesn't like mainlanders or "howleys".  It's unfortunate because the rest of the experience was solid, but that one interaction significantly brought down the overall impression of the airline and brand.

It was great to have direct flights. However, for a 5-6 hour flight this was a bit spare and cramped. Gone are the pre-pandemic amenities like magazines, movie/music entertainment, pillows/blankets, and food. SEA to OGG - two beverage service with a Biscoff packet, water service, agricultural/customs form, and heavy pitch for the Atmos card (Alaska had recently bought Hawaiian). Overpriced snack boxes that can be prepaid or paid by card during the flight, subject to availability. OGG to SEA (overnight/red eye flight) - one beverage service with a pretzel packet. Then dimmed lights until we landed 7am local time. My brother who flew ahead via Hawaiian Airlines described his flight experience which was in stark contrast: generous beverage service and actual meals served - generous deli sandwiches. Alaska Airlines could do better. I remember the good ol' days flying to San Francisco, then Alaska got a bit streamlined flying to Baltimore and Milwaukee, but now even more spare with this recent experience to Maui. The flight attendants and airport staff encountered at Kahului are great. But the overall Alaska Airlines experience was kind of meh. This does not bode well for the Hawaiian Airlines merger/takeover.

No movie screens so most passengers even little kids were prepared with downloaded shows to entertain themselves. They all also act like they can't open my file and read the notes the previous representative made. Airline also changed my seats on all but one of my flights. I will say I booked through chase. I don't know if that matters any. But I went from the front of the main cabin to almost the back of the plane on every flight. I complained about this on my last flight and I will say they moved me to comfort+ seating. So what's the best airline for future reference.

Many rows in the back were open and they had me sitting next to an elderly couple. I had moved to an open row and they forced me to make the older couple move together so I could sit there. They're excuse is "because the plane is balanced" Before when they had open seating they only required a certain number of people to sit in the back part of plane and didn't specify where just as long as it was in the back. Probably another ploy for corporate greed so you buy your seating.
