I stumbled upon this place while walking and would go again. I loved the poutine and highly recommend it! The gravy was very light and flavorful. The sriracha honey cauliflower appetizer was sooo good, I would definitely get this again! The Mac & cheese was nothing special, I wish they had the option to put spice in it (because that would definitely have helped and needed some more salt & pepper). I was not sure what to get to start with, so I asked the bartender what they recommended for the flagship and was given the Workers Pint. It tasted like bud light. I've since come back and had others, but nothing can take away that experience, where I'm never going to recommend going, but if others want to go I will and I'll stick with anything but their craft bud. read more

The waitress that we had was so nice and helpful to my friends and I. She told us about the special they were having and we got a little more of our money's worth. They were out of fries so they were making everything with sweet potato fries... but they didn't tell us. Not even when I ordered poutine. I mean... that's just ridiculous. Had I known they were out of fries I clearly would not have ordered poutine - that defeats the point of the whole dish! My fiancé had the classic burger (ordered medium and ofc it came well down). It was hands down the most bland burger we've ever tasted. He said he wished we had gone to McDonald's instead because it would've tasted much better. Came her on Halloween. Bartender thought it was wise to dress up as a Storm Trooper form Star Wars. Quickly realized that was not a wise decision. Asked him what was good, he said add bacon to the chicken sandwich. He was correct, that was good. You know what I should've gotten? The nachos...THAT EVERYONE ELSE ORDERED AROUND ME. I called in a to go order and went to pick it up. I ordered the Hamburger with fries and an order of wings to carry back to our apartment. Before I left I opened up boxes to make sure my order was correct which it was but I also needed some ketchup to go with my fries. I asked the man if I could get some to go packets of ketchup and was firmly told they didnt have any packets so I asked if he could put some ketchup in anything to carry with me and again was told no. I then asked if he could put some ketchup in my box of food that I was carrying with me and again I got an absolutely NO and he was very adamant about not letting me have any ketchup. Im not sure what the issue was with the ketchup but this server got this establishment a 2 star and I took away the nice tip I was going to leave him. The Burger was decent and the fries would have been great with ketchup. The wings were a little on the dry side though. Im not sure if ketchup is a no no in Boston but it's a staple in Georgia. Advise, if you are going there to eat you might want to carry a few packets of ketchup. lol. read more

Looking for something conveniently located and with decent options, Democracy Brewing was the perfect option. The beer was tasty but my only qualm-- having to pay a little more for building your own flight. I ordered the pizza bagel trio, because it was something I had never seen at a restaurant before. Two out of three were amazing, one was just okay. The food is good, the beer is good. You can't really go wrong, but they lose a couple stars because of the BYO flight option and the time between order placing and delivery to the table was a little longer than expected! read more

Stopped for drinks and decided to have some apps. The beers are quite nice. Enjoyed the 1919 and the Hop Yard the most, but the Rioter, Red 5, and and the Old Belfrey where also lovely. The atmosphere is great. Feels a bit like a Munich beer hall with great decor and quality service. We had wings and fries for an app. Fries were good. She was so-so on the wing sauce, but the chicken (boneless) was delicious. I would say more, but my gorgeous fate has told me to stop typing. We chose to eat at Democracy Brewing due to its proximity to the Boston Opera House. I did not try the beer this time, but the food was good and we enjoyed the atmosphere although it was quiet on a Sunday afternoon. The waitress said they were so busy Saturday night that they had sold out of several items. I had the hangar steak cooked a perfect medium, with a big side of broccoli rabe instead of smoked cheddar grits and it was all good. A very solid and reasonably priced meal for steak in downtown Boston. We had two kids with us and were pleasantly surprised that they seemed welcome. There was even a kids menu with the typical kids foods like burger and Mac n cheese, and we ordered a veggie plate with hummus that was beautiful - so colorful - with tasty Blackbean hummus. First! Everything was awesome. The beer was tasty. My wife has this pumpkin spice beer hah! It tasted like thanksgiving! Perfect food while in Boston. We had the Boston baked beans, Fish bites, smoked sausage, kale and Mac and cheese. My goodness. Packed with flavor. The mac & Cheese is the most memorable Not to say the others were not phenomenal. There was so much gooey, creamy cheese in the macaroni. Plus a crispy breadcrumb exterior! The atmosphere was romantic, yet still suitable for a group of friends. A friend recommended this location and it didn't disappoint. I love trying new beers. I opted for a beer tasting flight and had the guy behind the bar help in the selection process. I tried a hoppy, a wheat, a malt, and a seasonal. All were amazing. It's cold outside so I ordered a bowl of their sausage soup. Simple soup packed with flavor and served with grilled bread. Democracy Brewing is what America should be all about. First of all, they opened on July 4th. How perfect is that?! They support the local community, such as the volunteering organization One Brick Boston. I've enjoyed getting flights to enjoy a variety of their brews. My fave so far has been the saison! I've also tasted a number of their appetizers including beef sliders, pretzel bites, pickled veggies, chips & guac, and quesadillas. I've liked the bagel bites best! Solid food options to help soak up the beers... so that you can drink more! It's also a super social space, with helpful staff and a warm environment for catching up with friends or meeting new people. They have nights with music or trivia, so you'll want to keep coming back. Plus with a location right in Downtown Crossing, it's pretty much on your way anyway! No excuses -- come by Democracy and see what really makes America great. read more

Democracy Brewing is a very welcome addition to the downtown Boston area - the location can't be beat, the beers are tasty, and the staff is friendly. If you're not super familiar with Democracy Brewing, they are considered to be a "worker-run" brewery and they put a lot of effort into supporting local community initiatives - so big props to them for that! I was here recently for a private event, where we got to enjoy tasty appetizers from Democracy in their back room space. I sampled 2-3 of their beers over the course of the evening, and enjoyed everything I tried. I love that they have some tasty lighter options like their "Worker's Pint." I've found that too many craft breweries lately dedicate 90%+ of their menu to IPAs (which is great if you're an IPA lover, but limiting otherwise), so I appreciated that Democracy had a nice mix of everything from blonde ales to sours to stouts to shandies to saisons to IPAs. I'd like to try more of their food offerings the next time I'm here (which I'm sure will be soon). Oh, and don't forget that they have a Yelp check-in offer which will get you an extra pour on your flight (I will never turn down an extra pour of beer!) read more

Democracy Brewing is located just off the Common and is an awesome spot to stop and grab a drink and some food. I tried the Old Belfry beer which was so much fun. It's essentially a beer tea infusion and smells just like tea. So weird. So cool. It's a unique flavor that I haven't tried elsewhere and I really liked it. My husband and I both got the burger, so I don't have a ton to say about the menu except that this is a solid burger and one that I would happily eat again. Service was also spot on. Went here pre-Broadway show one evening, big fan of the vibe and the food! Lamely, I'm not a huge beer person, but my dining partner got some of the beers and really liked them. They're definitely going for a beer hall atmosphere with the long trestle table and sitting next to strangers, but everyone seems respectful of one another's space and once you make it into your seat it's not too bad. Broad range of food options (including vegetarian) and it was all delish. Especially intrigued by their private event space! Will be back! read more

Amazing new brewhouse! You can see the tanks through the windows. Friendly and attentive staff, beer starting at $5 a pint, and great food. What more can you ask for? Seems like a great spot for lunch or an after work beer and dinner. There's a big event space in the back for parties that has it's own bar, and there is a small private dining space at the end of the bar, too. We really enjoyed it here! We visited twice on our trip and had the chicken and waffles, steak frites, fish and chips, and a burger. The steak wasn't cut like I expected but it was cooked perfectly and really tasty. The fish and chips was fine, nothing to rave about but I would eat it again. My husband loved both of his meals, the carmelized onions on his burger were great. The fries here are amazing! And the beer was good too, hubby had two beers and enjoyed them both. Great food, beer, and ambiance! Super affordable and worth it spot to get a bite in Boston!

I stopped in here one night between work and a show. There's a table by the door with menus so you can grab your own and seat yourself. I sat up at the bar; the other options were some long tables in the middle of the room, and smaller, more private tables along the walls. There was chatter but it was relatively quiet. The staff were great. When I ordered a flight the server gave me a heads up that if I checked in on Yelp I could get a free extra 5 oz beer. I ended up sticking with the four I had, but I really liked all of them (Lucy Stone, 1919 Strike, Bicycle Race, and Lighthouse). The beerger was delicious, and very juicy. The fries were amazing. Unfortunately I have to take couple stars off my previous review. We went back recently before another Broadway in Boston show and were sad to see that everyone's favorite menu item (based on lots of yelp reviews), the beet fries, are no longer on the menu. There also are no longer hand pies on the menu. Huge bummer. When we ordered our beer, they were out of 3 different options, leaving us with mostly IPAs to choose from. When we finished our first beers, we had to wait a long, long time for our waitress to come back, and when she did, she informed us they were now out of the beer we were drinking. The food and beer are still great- we had the beerger and the mac and cheese and loved them. But getting rid of the best parts of the menu and being out of so many beers makes it tough to want to return. read more

I came for the beer, but I stayed for the food. I expected to have some great beers and moderate-to-tolerable bar food, but I was wrong! Let's start with the beers. One word to describe them: smooth. A second word: mellow. The Roggen and the 1919 were both superbly brewed, smooth and mellow. They're not going to punch your tongue or stand out (difficult to do these days). The food, however, does stand out! At least the lamb pie and the squash soup did. I was more than pleasantly surprised. Walnut-poblano pesto?? Ayep! That's in the soup, and it's amazing! And the texture and flavor of the biscuit in there...perfect. The lamb meat pie -- I scowled at the bartender after my first bite...he knew, because next he pumped his fist, and that's exactly what I WANTED to do, but didn't. The pastry on the pie is as good as it gets, and just amazing with the filling; I wouldn't change a thing. I take that back, I'd cut the price in half and double the portion so I could eat more! Stopped by today to check out this place. Have not been to brew pub in a while. I wanted to try some fresh draft. I was not disappointed. They had four brews today, they only opened yesterday. It was hot oitside so I tried the light ale, very refreshing, and then a pale ale a little more heft. Both were bright and flavorful. Gotta go back and try the stout. Beautiful old interior, great brews, and affordable eats! Democracy Brewing is like walking into a German beer hall (or at least how I envision it, since I've never been to one!) in the heart of downtown Boston. Wooden tables and chairs, candlelit iron chandeliers, wallpapered rooms with vintage paintings, and solid dark oak doors. Democracy features several beers: IPA, kolsch, stout, and lagers. Their menu includes bar popcorn, hand pies, burgers, and entrees. I chose the Workman's Pint, a kolsch-style ale for $5. It was crisp and easy to drink! For dinner, I ordered the regular burger with beet fries for $13. The burger was perfectly cooked at medium and the beet fries were new to me! They were crispy but flavorfuly made with golden and regular beets. The bacon caramel bar popcorn is delish! Think caramel brittle with crispy bacon and popcorn. The service was fine but not overly friendly, as you might imagine at a Boston bar. I'll be back! read more
