Service was incredibly slow and it was dead in there. Food and drink were pretty good.

Stopped in here for a working lunch, and let me just tell you this place is the BOMB! From the moment you walk in and look at the beautiful mural to the right, to the food, service and beer, I was already in my glory. I had a tasting flight with a few different beers, and I liked 3/4. Typically, when you go to a brewery and order a flight, it is sometimes unusual to like all of them, but this time I did. The space is huge, people are super nice, and I can't wait to go back. I stopped by here last night with a coworker for some evening drinks. We decided on Democracy Brewing because it was close to the hotel that we were staying at and is also open until 11 PM on a Monday evening. Whenever we arrived the place had a healthy dose of people inside. It wasn't enough to be even close to crowded but it certainly wasn't dead either, especially for a Monday night. As you walk in you can see a couple of tanks off to the left where they brew their beer. Then for the rest of this long restaurant the bar is off to the left with tables in the middle and half booth/half tables all the way off to the right. They have two large flat screen TVs which were both playing the Celtics game on the night that we were there. There is a brick wall behind the bar which gives it an old school feel which is completed by the chandeliers down the main part of the dining room. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I went with a flight here. At Democracy Brewing that means 4 pours for $11 and you can choose from most of the menu. For my flight I went with the Cellar Door (English bitter), Consummate Rioter (IPA), roadrunner (raspberry sour) and 2nd place Mayor (IPA). The first beer that I tried was the Cellar Door which was good as it had a slight sweetness to it before finishing with a nice bitter note. Up second was the roadrunner which started very raspberry forward before heading into a huge sourness and finishing with a nice light raspberry flavor. Third was the Consummate Rioter which was lighter in color and ABV (7.2% vs 8%) than the 2nd place mayor. It was light at first before a big burst of hops and finishing with a nice citrus flavor. Last up was the 2nd place mayor which was definitely a more hop forward IPA than the Rioter. It started out big and hoppy from the start right through to the finish. Out of the bunch I think that the Consummate Rioter was my favorite closely followed by the Cellar Door. All of the beers here were good beers though and each brought it's own uniqueness and flavor. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I liked that Democracy Brewing had a good selection of beers and that they tasted good too. read more

My husband and I are spoiled in California with breweries on every block. We had to treasure hunt for this place in downtown Boston and indeed it was a great find. We had a cheerful brewtender that interacted with us most of the evening. We ordered two flights (4 tastings per flight) as there are only 8 crafted beers it was perfect to share between the two of us. I love sours and lighter brews so the Cherry is delightful with a delicate sour taste but full cherry on the tongue. The Riot is exactly like it sounds, sour makes a statement in the mouth but perfectly balanced. Workers was a little on the hoppy side for me, but I definitely enjoyed the dancing notes that linger on your tastebuds. The 1919 was probably my favorite Stout, I'm noticing it's an acquired taste I've come to thoroughly enjoy. The inside has a very modern-rustic edge going on (totally love it), atmosphere is relaxing with the dim lighting and the fun crowds made it very comfortable. We were walking the Freedom Trail and needed a place to warm up. I'm so glad we ducked into this place. The dining room is large, but also very pretty and Harry Potter-esque. There is a long bar, secluded booths and tables for privacy, communal tables, and what looked like a room for private parties. Any kind of vibe you want, they got ya! I love Belgian beers and was very pleased with the Fighting 54th on the menu. I liked it so much that I ordered a few more instead of a variety like I usually do. The variety was very impressive.... most breweries here in CA seem to be very IPA-heavy, but this menu had something for everyone. They also offered flights for $10, where you could select any 4 beers you want. We didn't order food, but the food we saw other people get looked amazing. It gets very, very crowded later in the evening. Great brewery, location and beer. read more

I got the fish and chips, which was great and paired perfectly with the tartar mayo. The beer, which sadly I forgot the name but the namesake was cycling related, was very refreshing. The only downside was it took a long while for someone to take our order and for our food to come, even though at the time we went people were starting to leave. read more

After arriving and checking in to our hotel, we were looking for a good meal and drinks and Democracy Brewing was right in our area. It is so welcoming and lively! They even had a live band. We ordered the Mac and Cheese $13 and the Grilled Chicken Sandwich $13. The mac and cheese is SO good!! You get an extra glass of beer added on to your flight when you check in, so don't forget to do that. I did have a flight and all of the beers are delicious! Democracy, I loved being part of your process. Your space is cavernous and industrial and I absolutely loved it. I wish you hadn't been out of a lot of the things I wanted to try like IPAs and popcorn but I'm kind of glad you were, because then I wouldn't have gone outside the box and tried the lovely saison and the beautiful Belgian. Your food was a perfect accompaniment to the beer, pretzels with onion dip and mustard (it had beer cheese as well, but wasn't my favorite) and GROWN UP BAGEL BITES that were certainly under the "why didn't I think of that?" category. Our goal is to be back before we leave town to try those IPAs, hopefully they are back in stock, but I'm glad to know that business is going so well for this young start up brewery. read more

Only came here to try the brews so can't speak on behalf of the food. Really liked the environment of Democracy Brewing Co. Its a long narrow building that has a "beer hall" vibe to it. Long tables that you can sit at with other patrons, cute cubby holes with tables for two. When we arrived it was later and there was a gentleman playing the piano and everyone was standing around him and singing. Quite an experience and really made me smile. Only bummer is we came in on the tail end of the sing along, I wished it had gone on longer so we could join in! Atmosphere is cool with barrels protruding out of the walls. Only downfall is the bathroom is a bit of a hike :) Beers are good and there is a decent selection of about 10 beers. Im not sure if any of them stood out as my favorites but they were all different and drinkable. Bartenders are friendly and courteous. Pints range from 5-8 bucks unless you want something a little more potent. Would like to try this place again for a longer stay and some eats! read more

Awesome place! We were looking for a beverage and saw Democracy Brewing along the road. I wasn't too sure about it from the looks of the outside, but thought we would at least look in to see. It was all decked out for their last day of Oktoberfest. What a great place. They had a special Oktoberfest menu and beer list. I had a Bamberg Rauchbier which I haven't had in decades in Bamberg itself. Not quite as good as the original in Banberg, but still delicious. The food menu looked great as well, although we didn't have anything to eat. While they do have a number a individual tables along the sides, they also have a number of community tables in the middle. We sat at one of the community tables and enjoyed meeting new friends. Service by Nichole was great! They had a piano player and some folks singing which kept the place very lively. A must stop in place! read more

The ambiance is nice here and great for big groups! We had our team lunch here and it was pleasant. I ordered fish & chips and it was pretty delicious. Batter was crispy and fish was moist and soft, cooked just right. My french fries were too oily and a bit overfried but other people had better batch of fries. Maybe they got the fresh ones. Only one thing that was a bit of let down was the slow service. We waited almost an hour to get our food. However our server was very friendly and accommodating. They got one order wrong and took it out of our bill which was nice of them. I'm glad that we discover this new spot near our work, we'll definitely come back. read more

Went back to Democracy today for lunch. And yes, it is a brewery, but for me, it's all about the FOOD! Hubby had a burger with beer-battered pickle slices and fries. The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection but the FRIES! OMG. Best fries ever. I had the spinach salad with roasted red onions, spiced walnuts, bacon, apples and avocado. Delicious. Then the chef sent up a polenta and shrimp dish. The polenta was creamy and paired brilliantly with the shrimp. The food here is cooked from scratch, fresh and interesting. Not your usual bar fare. I found it interesting to read the story behind Democracy, and its distinctness makes it even more interesting. The decor actually reflects the design of a previous owner, but it still works. Besides more standard pub fare, they offer other unique takes. For example, I've never had beet fries before, nor anything like their chicken confit-apple salsa nachos. I hope they'll be rotating their beers. They were out of 2 yesterday by the time I got there. I was hoping their 1919 Strike Stout was a bit richer and heavier, and I enjoyed their dark IPA. Overall I think the place is very cool, and it's definitely a place to spend some time. read more

Good downtown place for a beer and a burger. Went with a group last night and place was sparsely filled. Good selection of beers, no other liquor available though and limited soft drinks. Food menu was limited because if Covid and several items were unavailable, beer battered onion rings included! Had the wings with my son (19) and he thought they were great l, while I though they were good. Also had the pulled pork sandwich. It was good as well, with a nice bun and coleslaw. Pork had some long dry pieces of pork that were tough to chew and get down. Overall, good place. Not bad and not great, good. read more

Really cool little brewery in the center of Boston. I absolutely love the decor and the atmosphere, you feel as if you're in a medieval castle with the low lighting, stone walls, circular chandeliers, and the "snub" room available for private parties. The beers are good and very reasonably priced. I tried a cherry sour and the Worker's Pint, which was very refreshing and only $5. My friends said the bagel pizzas were really tasty. Service was very friendly and attentive, and the bar never got too loud. I would definitely visit again. read more

I came here on a cold night with some friends and this was the perfect spot for it. It's centrally located, and the place is warm and open with many chairs. You seat yourself but the staff is super attentive. I really liked that they were accommodating and willing to split the check, even thought we ended up just getting one bill - huge plus! The beers were fresh and local. The food was average but it did its job and a good snack! Would come back again for a quick bite or to hang out with friends. For a group of people we shared: -beer pretzel w/ onion dip, house mustard, & beer cheese ($7) - freshly baked and the pretzel was soft. All the dipping sauces were super yummy too! My only complaint would be that it was a little smaller than I expected. -margherita pizza bagel ($9) - Standard pizza bagel, nothing too special but it was tasty and I liked that they cut it in pieces so it was easily shareable! For drinks I got: -Rotating Flight ($9) - great way to get a couple tastes of their beers! For an extra $1 you can build your own flight with whichever beers they have! -Old Belfry ($8) - I ended up really liking this beer from the flight because of its autumn flavors! read more

The Ambon s was nice is you are beer drinker which I am not. So the drink selections were very limited for me. I ordered a chicken sandwich and it had avocado on which made it more delicious. Such a surprise. We were downtown and decided to come here for lunch, assuming we'd go low frills burger and beer or something simple. A brewery downtown, 4 stars, expectations were so-so. We were surprised to see Birria Quesitacos and Sweet Chili Bao Buns. Delicious. We also ordered a Worker's Pint and hard seltzer (flavor was raspberry pomegranate but it rotates). Chicken tenders a bit of a miss, had some fish flavor prob from being cooked in the fish and chips fryer. Idk. Anyway, the tacos and the bao buns were OUTSTANDING and the beer was really solid. This new brewery right in downtown is definitely worth checking out! I'm a big fan of their rotating sours, and they offer beer flights (either curated lists or pick your own) if you want to try everything they have. They also have a full-fledged kitchen and it's a lot better than your standard bar food. The B-B-B Beerger was top notch, as was the chorizo stuffed chicken. They have a pretty decent dessert menu! If you're lucky enough to snag the snug for your group (first come, first serve), you get your own private room away from all of the bar noise, and you get direct access to the bar so no need to wait in the bar line. The owner, James, was a great guy to chat with, he really knows his stuff and is passionate about their employee-owned business model. read more

Beer was great. Wings were amazing. $18 burger and fries was not good. Fries were somehow both overcooked and soggy. Just tasted like crunching on oil. Burger buns were burned on every burger at the table. Despite having bacon, cheese etc, it was somehow a bland burger. Sour beer was amazing and the wings were fantastic. I'd go back and get beer and wings and skip the $18 burger. read more
