There are pizzerias, some excellent, some less so. Then there are neighbourhood bars - the kind that when you go to order a drink, people next to you will strike up a conversation. And then there's Denly's, which is my kind of place. Why be one or the other, if you can combine both? I like pizza, I like beer, and I certainly like a good atmosphere. Now truth be told, we ended up here on the day that Irene was visiting the Boston area. Not the Irene I know, but the (kind of) big hurricane, although the two do share some unpleasant characteristics. Our first choice of place to eat was closed, so we stopped by Denly's, which not only was open, but our server, whose name was Jeremy if I recall correctly, was surprised as to why everywhere else was closed. Clearly a general lack of electricity in the area goes unnoticed, and the locals with the right attitude don't let minor niggles such as a hurricane get in the way of them and their pizza. The place itself has a nice feel inside. If you're scared of modern, minimalistic trendy bars, then this is the escape for you. Plenty of cozy booths, the obligatory TV screens, a clear view of the kitchen and bar, which was well stocked, both with booze as well as people. Everyone was almost absurdly friendly and interested in having a chat to us - partly because they couldn't figure out why tourists would stray into Weymouth, which let's face it, is not exactly a sight-seeing must-do. I asked to sample some local ales, of which they had a fine selection. I also got excellent advice about what other beers to try in the area from the friendly lot at the bar. So to all of you, thanks! This was my girlfriend's first experience of pizza in USA, and both of us having grown somewhat accustomed to the food in UK ordered a medium pizza each. Don't ask me what was on them, but there were plenty of toppings. That was our mistake. The pizzas were huge. Not large, not extra-large, but just silly. Okay, later on we realised that a lot of places in USA have this sort of size standard, but it shocked us at the time. The usual sprinkle of parmesan-like substance and some hot pepper on a slice, *chomp* and with a wash down of beer, my taste buds were pleased, my empty stomach even more so. The pizza was very good. Not the best in the world, and certainly not the gourmet style pizza you might find in authentic Italian restaurants. But it was far above average, and for the price, couldn't complain at all! Cannot comment on any non-pizza items, but I imagine they would be of a similar standard - relatively simple, tasty and plentiful. Before we left, as I had another quick chat with the guys that worked there, a family walked in for a late lunch - this place feels entirely child-friendly and if you want to go somewhere to watch the match, and bring your wife and kids along, then this is the place to go. Will I go again? Probably not.. but that's because I doubt I'll ever be in Weymouth again. On my sons first birthday I ordered 20+ pizzas from Denly's I ordered them 3 days in advance, the girl on the phone said itll be fine no need to call the day of she left a note for whoever. Well my husband went to go pick it up and nothing, they said there was never an order. Well they call me and my hubby puts the guy on the phone and he said "Im pretty sure I would have remembered that order and your mistaken" TOTALLY rude I had a ton of people waiting and this attitude was uncalled for. Well I said whatever make the pizzas and hes like fine it will be a few hours. unacceptable but I placed the order anyway. My husband came home and I was getting more mad by the minute at the way I had been spoken to. Went today for a quick bite after a busy morning. We usually love the pizza and sauteed calamari. First of all, ordered a draft beer and the draft beer was "broken". So no draft beer. The flies were buzzing all around us and the window had cobwebs and food crumbs stuck all over the window sill at our table. It was disgusting! The screen door was all ripped we discovered on our way out. I ordered an "oversized stuffed clam" for appetizer and we ordered the calamari. Everything came together. The clam was the smallest clam I have ever seen, it was flavorless and they charged $5.99 for it! The calamari was not much better and we had to keep swatting flies from our dishes. This is another old school dive type place. Been in business since 1933. Some of the furniture may be that old. Cash only. Wooden booths. It's like going back in time, kind of like Lynwood Cafe in Randolph. This sure ain't fine dining, but this place makes some of the best pizza around. Thin, crispy crust, well topped, well balanced goodness. A well above average neighborhood pizza joint. This place used to be amazing; this was my go to pizza place in South Shore. Recently though, I have bad experiences back to back with the food here!! I still think the service is great despite what the reviews say; everyone who works there is very warm and friendly. Though the food quality has really went down! Last week I threw out a whole large pizza I had bought because it was extremely salty and beyond garlicky that I could not eat it; and yes I hate returning food, so I wasted my money on a food I had to throw out! The month before I got the Tuscan pizza with half Napoli which used to be my favorite order here- the crust was so soggy the piece wouldn't hold up when I picked them up. It was disgusting! I don't know why their food quality has decreased. I thought they were just having a bad food day but this has happened the past three times I ordered from them so I'm just gonna stop going here! love the no frills of this place. pizza here is great, service is friendly. Its a good neighborhood spot. Literally. Denly Gardens is surrounded by a bunch of houses and parking is sparse. There is a small parking lot across the street if you are lucky to pull in when someone is pulling out. There is street parking but they fill up fast. we ordered 2 medium pizzas and a bottle of wine, and the total came out to under $50. Cash only from what I read in the reviews. Summay: Hit and Miss for Takeout Pizza. More: We've only ever done take-out pizza from Denly's (the local name). We have a friend who LOVES the pizza here, but somehow we haven't had the same results. It seems that the pizza might not travel well? When ordering Pizza with veggies we feel that the Veggies just don't cut it. In general we feel that all the pizza there has too much oil floating on top. This is a tripple paper towel kind of situation. We can't speak to eating there, any of the other menu items, etc. The inside of the restaurant (and bar) is simple. Lots of wooded booths for seating. The Parking at Denly's is HORRIBLE. most of the parking involves parking up a 45 degree incline 1/2 on what could generously be referred to as a side walk. Fortunately or Unfortunately this is because of Denly's location inside a residential Neighborhood right on Lake Street. We've only ate here one time and it was probably one of the best pies I've ever had. We got the Napoli (mozzarella, prosciutto, basil, Red sauce) and it far exceeded my expectations. We were the first people there on a Saturday afternoon and I will admit I didn't expect much because the atmosphere is nothing to write home about - but my tune was changed as soon as the food came out. I'm just speculating but I assume the owner is the one who made the pizza. First off, don't come unless you have plenty of time. We don't tend to have to wait for a table but the service is definitely friendly, but relaxed. Since we expect it, we accept it. I do see many groups there and that's probably one of the plusses. They don't rush you out! Decor is probably not much different than when it opened & the straight wooden benches are a bit hard on the back. Why do we go back you ask? For their pizza and somehow the whole atmosphere works. I want a nice thin crust pizza and Denlys makes it right. We've tried a variety of combinations and have yet to be dissatisfied. Our last visit we tried the Tuscan - artichoke hearts and garlic. Very tasty! I can't attest to the rest of the menu, but the pizza is worth the trip. - Also, bring cash. They have an ATM but don't accept credit cards. read more

Tonight was my first time at Denly's. I loved it. I got take out dinners and a pizza. The staff was so great! I ordered GF pasta with one dinner and they didn't fill my order with bread crumbs on the chicken without checking with me. The hostess tried calling me back... I missed the call. Been going here for pizza since I was about 10 and now I'm 32. Still just as good. Prices can't be beat either. Their small is the same as a major chain's large and their large is the major chains X large only cheaper. They don't have the variety that some places have like multi cheese, BBQ or Buffalo Chicken though. It's a thinner crust like a Papa Ginos with better flavor. It's an old place that hasn't been updated to modern day. The food is top notch though. Go early if you are dining in though. On any given night after 6pm it can be an hour wait for your order. On those nights get takeout. Good beer selection and some of their dinners are pretty good too. If you like North End/Santarpios you will like Denly's. read more

Established in 1933, this place is a hole-in-the-wall local gem. Unfortunately the only parking available is curbside, but luckily we didn't have a problem finding a spot. Friendly staff, and the pizza is great with thinner, crispy crust. Great selection of pizzas and bottled beer, with three or four beers on tap. Gluten free options also available (including hard ciders and gluten free crust upon request). I think the place could definitely use a little elbow grease, but I guess that's to be expected from a place that's been around over 80 years, and probably wouldn't be the same experience without the "charm." They're also cash only, but they do have an ATM available right in the building. I guess they're also in the process of trying to remove the yelp coupon, because when we mentioned it to our server he said it's not supposed to be up there anymore. Love the pizza here. It's the best hand tossed Neopolitan style I've found in Weymouth. Delicious thin crust. I like the cappiacola (hot ham) the best, although I've tried most pies here. Skip anything here but the pizza. We've ordered sandwiches and some of the apps and we weren't impressed at all. The wings are really lousy.
