    Basic Original Grand Slam
    Erica C.

11/6/2025 - I ordered the basic grand slam to go. They told me it would be ready in 10 minutes. I arrived in 10 minutes and it was ready. It had 2 large pancakes, 2 scrambled eggs and 2 slices of bacon. It was very good. It came with 2 packets of syrup, a butter and a fork and knife. There was no salt or pepper though. I prefer that on my eggs. All packaged well and was very tasty. $15.

As I was eating my food, I found a HUGE piece of plastic with microwave instructions on it. Unacceptable.

Breakfast food is always served hot! Our favorite breakfast spot. Quiet in the mornings with very friendly staff. Andrea is a sweetheart. She never lets our coffee cups get empty and stops just to chat. A great family friendly diner. Can get crowded at times. Background music is at an appropriate level.

All these people with negative reviews must not have had Andrea as their waitress. Absolute killer service, fast and efficient! Food was great! Only sitting in Andrea section from now on!

Parking is kind of tough in this lot. There is more parking in the back. Came on the weekend and was seated fast. Service was great and attentive. Food was meh. Tried: Sampler - buffalo chicken was a bit over cooked but rest was okay. Country fried steak and eggs - toast was super burnt. Steak was meh tasting. Hashbrowns weren't crispy at all. Moons over my hammy - nostalgia. A-okay. Kid loved the strawberry stuffed toast. Really pricey for just diner food.

Mehrnoosh is a delight. She's quick and caring. GREAT customer service. She anticipates your need before you do. And this Denny's is rarely busy but it has award certificates on the wall. Very pretty, decorated with patriotic themes. Food is fresh and actually pretty delicious and GREAT value meal prices too. It's always clean too. Coffee is always fresh. Great parking. It's got everything you'd want in a great Denny's location.

For some mysterious reason, they think it's OK to send a DoorDash order with the meat fully burned.

They're also dog friendly, which is awesome so we opted to sit outside with the pups. Just a heads-up: It gets extremely hot on the patio. They don't have a large fan or cooling system, but they do have window shades that can be pulled down to help block some of the sun and heat. The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, checked on us regularly, and kept us updated on when our food would be coming out. She was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the: Country Fried Steak: this was by far the best country fried steak I've had in San Diego! It was absolutely huge. I ended up taking half of it home for leftovers. It was also loaded with gravy, which I loved. I got the mashed potatoes and gravy and broccoli as my sides, and everything was delicious. They have a very extensive menu, and there are so many other things I want to come back and try. I honestly can't believe I've lived in San Diego for almost 10 years and am just now discovering this spot! Between the portions, prices, service, and quality of the food, this is definitely one of the best breakfast spots in San Diego. And the prices are awesome for what you get. I'll absolutely be back!

I highly recommend you take time to visit this place. they have specials throughout the week. It is a shame that the leadership of our fine city allowed this industry to die. They screwed up.

Come for the Matzo, Stay for the Eye Candy (and the Sweet Chef!)…read more So, I took my grandma out for dinner because she had a massive craving for matzo ball soup. We ordered, but a few minutes later, our waiter came out looking like he had to deliver bad news. He apologized and said the chef refused to serve the current batch because it "wasn't up to his standards." Before we could even process being denied our soup, the chef himself walked out to our table. First of all? The man is dangerously handsome. Second of all? He was incredibly sweet. He politely offered us tomato soup instead, but then saw the heartbreak in my grandma's eyes. He told us, "Look, if you really want the matzo ball soup and can give me 15 minutes, I will go to the back and whip up a brand new, fresh batch just for your grandma." Naturally, we waited. Since he knew we were sharing, this absolute legend threw an extra matzo ball into the bowl so we could each have two. Talk about elite customer service! It really made us realize how much the people here care about the quality of their food. They won't serve you subpar dishes just to flip a table. My grandma was on cloud nine. She officially declared it the absolute best matzo ball soup she has ever had in her life (sorry, family recipe, you've been replaced by a handsome chef).

Lafayette Beginners Diner…read more Spontaneously, decided to visit Lafayette Hotel yesterday. Walked straight towards Beginners Diner outdoor patio which overlooks the pool, it was crowded. Despite the crowds, there were a few seats available to sit and dine. Usually one must check in with the manager inside the diner, but this time the manager happened to be a few steps away and she said I could sit anywhere I wanted...YAY! I had my pup Fendi in tow and we sat down for a while to enjoy the usual cool music and be voyeurs. As with most diners, it would be better if all the selections on the menu is available to order 24/7. Many items are only available to order during particular times. It was a sunny hot San Diego day, which called for an icy mocktail, a Greek salad and small french fries. The yogurt dill sauce enhanced the taste of both the salad and fries... so good. Service from the manager and servers were cordial, attentive and friendly. A bowl of water was offered for my baby and I always appreciate that extra effort. Because of a much improved overall experience and positive vibes, it merits this review and recommend.

The 2nd waitress seemed like she wasn't happy to get the straw. And I also asked for plastic utensils. But again a attitude. My party was of 3 & once we got the food, nobody checked on us, until the bill came. I received the chicken and waffles with bacon crumbles on top with blueberries on top. Well the blueberries came on the side and the waffle was soggy. The chicken was 6 out of 10. My dad had the burger and fries and he said it was good. His wife got pancakes, eggs and bacon. I believe in 2nd chances, so I would try ordering something else and hopefully the service of the waitress and waiters are better the next time. And hopefully I find something that's full of flavor and made properly. I can say the restaurant did smell good walking in. For appetizers I would recommend the shaved ham with the baguette. It was surprisingly good for such a simple dish. The ham was so soft and a perfect level of salty. The flavors of the mustard, cheese, and breadcrumbs were perfect additions. The croquettes were also delicious. There was no sauce left on the plate! It was cooked perfectly, but what really made it unique was the Bordelaise sauce poured over the top. * Pommes Frites: some of the best fries I've had - thin cut and extremely crispy. * French Onion Soup: I was told the menu was recently updated and it no longer comes with the pastry top. However, it was still very enjoyable. One thing to note is that although it says on Yelp that dogs are allowed, it's actually service dogs only. Overall, the service was excellent, the food came out quickly (under ten minutes after ordering), and the happy hour is a great deal.

As he approached to seat us I informed him that the bus boy told us to seat ourselves and the server half jokingly asked who so I pointed to him. As for the food, we ordered sandwiches and fries. The restaurant itself has an open and welcoming atmosphere, comfortable seating, good a/c, friendly service, a good variety of menu options...however, the cost for what you get doesn't equate. Now, their prices are fair, compared to many other places out there, but due to the lack of quality it just hits harder. My Monte Cristo was so sad-looking and dry. The turkey was heavily peppered, which might be okay in any other turkey sandwich, but this did not go well with what a Monte Cristo should taste like (iykyk)...even when the raspberry jam was added all you could taste was pepper. In addition to the strong pepper taste, the turkey itself was extremely dry and shredded to pieces when I tried to remove it. Very disappointed. When I told our waiter, who was very friendly and had been attentive, he said that he'd let the cook know--and that was it. No follow up. No apology. My son had the French toast and it was okay, nothing special. I usually have lunch here, but it's been a few years since I've been here for breakfast -- so this was a bummer. The past few times I felt like the quality was slipping, but I chalked it up to a possible "off" day...but this recent visit confirmed that they weren't "off" days and the quality truly has slipped.
