This was a pretty good Denny's as far as Denny's go. The service was quick and friendly. Even though the waitress looked at me like I had a third head when all I wanted was two eggs and a small side of hash browns. Though the food came out very quickly, my eggs were a tad on the too done side. Hash brows were perfect! The restrooms were very clean and attended to, which is a big deal! It's on the small size of a restaurant so I'm not sure why it didn't seem like there was much parking, but that was a challenge. Lots of truck drivers looking for some chow! We walked up to this Denny's at 9:45pm. The sign said open until 10:00pm. We walked in and they said they were closed. That's BS the sign says open until 10:00pm. I used to be in the restaurant business and if the sign says 10:00pm your open until 10:00pm and take new customers until your closed. My husband and I normally pop in here when we are too lazy to make dinner, its always what you expect for a Dennys today however they were very understaffed the GM however I would to state was Awesome. he was out and about interacting with the guests refilling drinks, taking orders .... Very impressed and a lot of respect to him. Tip: the Pancake bites with syrup are basically french toast would be a great meal for a small child that they can feed themselves without a lot of hassle. Came her for lunch....it was about 1030ish. Had a seat at the counter and was greeted by Andrea. She took a few orders then came back to see what I was having. I think what made this such a great experience was to see how extremely busy Andrea was and she was MORE than capable in performing under pressure. She continued taking orders, refilling drinks and asking how everyone was doing. I've been to many diners, many Dennys being part of that and I've seen some do a pretty good job while busy, but not with the same smile and ease Andrea made it look like. Todays review is one I dont like to do. Because of the casier's attitude towards me I removed a star. I'd like to give 4 stars so lets say this for the food and atmosphere and service up to the point when I checked out Id rate the experience 4 stars. Now what happened to me at checkout dropped it to 2 stars. I added a star back because I realize that in a small way it was my fault I will explain it all at the end and it should all make sence to you. I Ordered the Senior grilled Talapia. It came with 2 sides, and soup or salad. The soup of the day was clam chowder. I opted for salad. It arrived quickly. IT was cold crisp, it had the dressing on the side. and tasted good. I really enjoyed it . My two sides were Sautéed Zucchini & Squash, and corn. The corn tasted as if it were the frozen type nothing spectacular. The zucchini & squash on the other hand was great. Made me wish I doubled up on the Zucchini & squash and not ordered corn. The Talapia was grilled to perfection. Moist and tender. It was a great meal And when my waitor got around to asking me I told him so. It goes down hill from here. They offer Seniors a 15% discount with an AARP card. It just so happens that in my opinion AARP had become too liberal for me, so I stopped paying dues. I Kept my old card to use at Dennys. They never check the expiration date and at a couple Dennys I go to they give me the discount automatically without looking at the card. My personal feeling is thats the way it should be. I dont believe seniors should have to belong to AARP to get the discount. As I stated I did feel that I was slightly to blame for letting my card expire but again I still maintain a Senior discount should be based on age not club affiliation. Let me start by saying I've always loved Denny's. Great and consistent for breakfast and lunch. I love a good fancy place but there's just something about Denny's. Classic! I have two friends that feel the same way and one of them met me at this (Kearny Mesa) location the other night for a classic grilled cheese sando with fries (and onion rings). Just when you think it can't get better, we were greeted by Noosh. A delightful woman with such a warm and lovely personality. We wanted to take her home. Went on a Saturday night. Waitress was quick, friendly, and totally helped us place our order in a way that was cheaper (I only wanted a bowl of soup for $4, but she added it to my boyfriend's entrée so that it'll just be $1.99). She did this for a couple of our menu items ...extra tip for her! Her name was Melinda. The coffee was freshly brewed, but tasted burnt. :( Melinda got really busy, it seemed like she was the only waitress on the floor @ the time. I asked for butter a couple of times, but she forgot because of the craziness...I wasn't upset, though...she was trying and was really nice. Country fried steak was great. Grand slam was great. I don't understand when you order breakfast with toast and they burn it why do they see if you want it or not? I would think if you want burnt toast you would ask for it. For starters I really hate giving a bad review but half of my order was inedible, by my standards, which are pretty low when it comes to food. I got the wrong side (which unfortunately I can't even eat) and my non complicated special instruction to leave out one ingredient due to an allergy was not followed. The lettuce was very wilted, like so bad part of it was black and there is no way that it was not noticed by somebody. The other side that was veggies were celery (browned on both ends) cucumber (slimy and old) and carrots (nothing noticeably wrong but still afraid to eat at this point). The steak I ordered was made rare, like it was SO bloody, when I ordered it well done so it could be my lunch tomorrow and not taste metallic from marinating in all that blood. I don't expect a lot from Denny's that's why the service I had today was no biggie. I would come here at least once a week and all times I have no complaint. Tonight was just a little off. Maybe the lady on the phone was new? But I called and placed an order for pick up and all she said was, "ok is that all?" But like I didn't even order yet. Lol. There was more to the conversation we had but I'll just leave that off. I usually order the chicken slugger, it comes with coffee and juice. The -1 Star is for every time I order the southern chicken slugger, it comes with coffee and juice, they forget to give it to me when I pick up the food. sorry but this denny's is horrible. the waiter karen (of course) had a horrible attitude. i asked her if they didn't warm up the bread for the burger and she said no so dry with no emotion. i'm a waitress at a cafe, and i know sometimes you might have a bad day but don't take it out on customers. I went to go pay and i obviously didn't leave a tip because she was simply so rude didn't even say hi and as soon as i hit no tip her attitude changed to an even worse attitude. didn't even say thank you after i paid. my advice to you karen; don't work if you're gonna have a nasty attitude. This is by far the worst Denny's I've ever gone too. Our waitress Rosalinda was so unprofessional and rude in a way. Our order was, the chicken Cesar salad, and the T-bone steak breakfast. The hasbrowns were beyond oily and the meat was over cooked. My salad was filled w Brown/pink lettuce and had carrots and purple cabbages mixed in somehow. The avocado was extremely hard. The rudeness comes from the fact that she and her two co workers were gossiping in the back while the food was ready. We could literally see them gossiping and we could see our food ready at the window. She never checked on us or refilled our waters. We randomly came here at 2AM on a saturday, this place doesn't seem like it gets very busy. It was very quiet..... We sat at the bar. Food seemed to take awhile, when they were just two simple breakfast plates, the food presentation was good, the quality is standard. The bill was like $23 and some change, and my bf put down $45 cash, and the server only came back with $1 and some change. I figured my bf was tipping her $20 cause he's nice like that, but she should've brought $21 and some change, instead of just assuming the $20 was hers to take. But whatever. My cousin and I flew in at 11:30 in San Diego to see my son in the Navy and was bery hungry. The hotel we are staying in recommended Denny's right down the street cause they were open 24 hours. We were greeted by the most sweetest lady that I told my cousin if she had grand kids they definitely LOVED her. She was so helpful and made sure everything was to your liking. ( I think that is how you spell her name) Since I moved into the neighborhood approximately six years ago, my family and I have made it a habit to eat at this Denny's, and Andrea has always maintained a cheerful, warm, and friendly demeanor toward us. The meal that I choose for my children is the same one that I choose for myself. Pancakes topped with whipped cream and served without syrup, according to the children's grand slam. I ordered on line for pick up at the location on Kearny Villa on 10/24. When I got there it was closed. No one bothered to call me and let me know and the charged my card. I have been in contact with corporate and am still waiting for my refund. Denny's is an American classic. The last of the diners. There are several Denny's in San Diego. Been to a few of them at various hours. However this Denny's on Kearny Villa Rd has the greatest service. When I am craving Denny's I drive past another just to come to this one. The staff maintain the cleaning very well. The main thing is the customer service here. Staff are kind, polite and service oriented. They do not try to upsell extras or add ons. If you are a repeat customer the wait staff attempt to memorize your orders or favorites. Just a pleasant place to go. read more

Today we walked in to this Denny's for a restroom emergency for my child. It was the nearest restroom from our location. I was told we couldn't use the restroom because we weren't customers by Dianete. I said, then, we will buy something. As I escorted my daughter into the restroom. I went back to the registered and asked the lady by the name of Dianete if the manager was there, she indicated to me that she was the manager. I told her that we were out of town and normally patronize the Denny's in San Marcos and that I could assure her that we spent a lot of money there on breakfast, that we simply had an emergency for one of our children. I told her that I couldn't believe she didn't have a little mercy for her. She explained that she had to watch out for her customers as if I were disrupting her customers and that she was just doing her job. And that there out side it indicated that bathrooms were for customers only, which I did not see and looked thoroughly for the sign and nothing was there that indicated that. After I sat and waited quietly for my daughter I asked my daughter to please go back in the car, I waited for Dianete at the register to buy a cup of coffee , keeping my word. Maybe I thought, she would see I was not being disruptive, or disrespectful in any way, just wanted to use the restroom and she would kindly have a change of heart and say it's ok, you guys don't have to buy the coffee, instead she stood her ground and proceeded to charge me for a coffee. Which I was happy to pay for. Since this was the cost of using the restroom in an emergency. We weren't there to bother anyone, we were well dressed (coming from church) and it was just too difficult for this Dianete to do an act of kindness at this Denny's. This Denny's was nearly empty it was around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. I will never again patronize Denny's. I doubt the owner would have acted in such a merciless act. People like that should not be in this business. If Dianete would have been nice about it I would go back just to have our breakfast. But being treated like we were just anyone off the streets made us feel very discriminated. Please do not patronize this Denny's there are many other franchises that truly value people and excel in customer service of all kind. read more

Customer service was less than satisfactory today. There were about six customers (or less) in the entire restaurant. Wait staff was chatting when I arrived they didn't even acknowledge my presence until I walked over and interrupted their conversation. Once my order was ready the waitress realized she requested the wrong thing to the cook and I had to wait for them to prepare my meal, at that time I requested it be packaged to go. I'm too exhausted to go into further detail...lobg story short next time go to IHOP instead or drive to another Denny's location if you want to have good wait staff.
