The issue was the next people that came in were asked to put on masks but claimed they didn't have masks with so the "manager" look d around and the seated these people without masks. I love the Santa Maria Denny's. The employees are very friendly, and they always welcome you with "Welcome to Denny's". The food is great! I have never had a bad meal. I usually get the salmon with broccoli and a salad. It also comes with Texas toast. It is a very good price on the senior menu. I also like the eggs benedict. I usually have them add tomatoes and avocado. That makes it a wonderful breakfast, with hash browns, nice and crispy. On Monday, I think I will get Denny's Beyond Burger with all the fixings. I'm not a vegetarian, I just like that burger. It seems like I have been here, much longer than an hour, I've downed three cups of coffee; caffeine has upped my power. This place I come now twice a week, where they all know my name, Is part of my social life, one of my claims to fame. It's always been enjoyable, to observe people at work, At Denny's it's the kindness, that adds an extra perk. First time going into Dennys had a horrible experience the waiter was very rude with a bad attitude. I was with my kids and trying to decide what to get for them when he came to see if we were ready I said we needed a bit more time well he rolled his eyes and left then took 15 minutes to come back we almost left. Really unhappy with this Denny's. Went with my Mom and 2 kids. The sign outside says "kids eat free everyday 4-10pm". Apparently though, if you don't tell them you want your kids to eat free they charge you for them anyway. Watch your receipts if you go to this Denny's! They don't care about their customers. We asked to get the receipt adjusted and they said they wouldn't because my mom had given her AARP card for that discount so they wouldn't change it to give the kids for free. We will definitely NEVER come back to this place again! She was fast, friendly, and checked my table several times. She had quite a few tables and handle them all with great service. The service at this place is absolute GARBAGE. Both times we came here we were not greeted by our waitresses, it took them at least 10 minutes to approach our table and take our order. Today in particular the server said "one second" and then "you ready?" And that's all the conversation we had with her our whole visit. On top of that one of the older servers was shouting to her coworkers, arguing about whether or not she made the coffee that morning. It was incredibly awkward and silenced the entire restaurant. My 4 star rating is for THE COOKS ONLY! Our food was absolutely amazing! I ordered the bourbon burger and my boyfriend ordered the chorizo burger. We have undoubtedly never had a better burger. I reviewed 2 years ago and was so impressed with the service and food. I work in customer service and I know it's been difficult post COVID-19. Short staffed, people quitting, people not coming back after they've been hired, etc... but today was just not what I expected at all. My plate was missing sides that it included, sides we asked for were missing, I asked for creamer twice and they still brought me the wrong creamer. Guy came by to help my server to drop off refills on our hot chocolate:.. used one hand when he clearly has two and spilled hot chocolate all over the floor and on our table. My order had two eggs, looked more like one of those spotted eggs Sparrows lay lol and wasn't even neatly placed, (God I wish I could've taken a picture!) missing the cheese on top I asked for, literally looked like they just threw it on and didn't care where it landed. And the taste, idk if y'all have a new cook or what, but there should be a standard in how food is cooked and presented since it's a franchise and it just wasn't today. I'm hesitant to come back after being such a dedicated loyal customer for all these years. I know it's hard but the quality of work shouldn't be this bad. My server was good. although at first there was two and they still managed to get my creamer wrong. I just wish I had better things to say. I hate hate hate being a Karen, but I'm paying for my food and love tipping! Today I couldn't tip, I just couldn't. food service should be at a certain standard regardless of who is doing the cooking and serving. While I prefer independently owned restaurants over chains, Denny's was the only place open at 0400, and I needed bfast after a long night . . . Service was very good. Our server was very friendly, efficient, and the man was in perpetual motion the entire time we were there: ensuring surrounding tables were cared for, liquids never went beyond half-full, all the while prepping the restaurant for the larger crowds to follow. I was impressed by the man's dedication and positive demeanor Food was average, though the sausage had a flavor that was slightly off to me. Also, the bread seemed fresh out of the Wonderbread bag . . . I don't like bread out of the bag from the supermarket. Scrambled eggs and hash browns were A-OK. 3-stars is due to the excellent service, because the chow was 2-stars (NOTE: the chow was prepared well by the cook; the issue for me was the quality of the ingredients). Want to start off by saying my server was great. She was so slammed with tables she couldn't do everything! 1.) our drinks were always empty. The server filled once each but like I said, she had so many tables and only two server I saw for the whole place, and a manager.. manager was of no help! 2.) my food was cold. My nachos were seriously colder then room temperature. I wanted to tell someone right away because I was hungry and wanted something but there was no one around. By the time my poor server got the chance to get back to us, everyone at the table was done eating... I at that point wanted my food taken off the bill and to leave. (They did comp my meal) 3.) they false advertise their "kids eat free" DONT LISTEN TO THEIR KIDS MENU when it says 2 kids eat per 1 adult entree. It's a lie. I called them on it and the manager rolled her eyes and said something about corporate and franchises.. blah blah. The Female Management refused to help and I believe it's because I got the nachos taken off the bill.. but they got a whole plate of nachos back! I wasn't asked for anything free with that, I honestly just didn't want cold food. It takes a lot for me to give 1 Star because I am pretty easy to please and I try to see the other peoples perspective. But I hate being lied to! I was in town visiting my dad in the hospital. So a crowd of our family went over to have breakfast after a long night waiting at the hospital. For a Sunday morning I must say this place was not packed at all. We where seated immediately. And the Waitress was extremely nice, polite, attentive. I was going to say my food experience was a 3 star but with the great service it went up to 4. Food: I had Hash Browns scrambled eggs and sausage. & toast. This was all very made to order Thats pretty much what I expect from Denny's. Once of the pictures I posted was what my uncle had. It looked so good I just had to take a picture. I did it. I didn't want to but I did. It was late and nothing else was open, so I walked in. Curiously I was immediately informed that I would not be served. Why? Because I "photographed an employee" Guilty. I did it. When I was refused service previously due to my seating selection, I snapped a quick photo of the fine server who refused to serve. I suppose I've now broken several unwritten, or at least unposted rules. Infraction #1: Thou shalt sit in the area directed by the server, even if that area is in-bused and other clean areas are available. Infraction #2: Should a customer wish to take an identifying photo of a server worth reporting to management, thou salt not do so. I suspect I'm in a quite small and elite circle: how may people do we know that are 86'd from their local Denny's (of all places) ? You may count me in! read more

I brought my family in to Denny's for breakfast as we were passing through Santa Maria. Host was nice but the waitress acted like she did not want to be here. We had dirty silverware and when we asked for new ones it was like we asked her to go kill to pig to make the bacon. Then when she brought the food out and the eggs were over cooked bacon undercooked and the food looked like it was just thrown on the plates worst experience at Denny's ever. read more

We try and make this a location, morning or night, to stop in when venturing out the SLO town. It's convenient, and sits right off the 101. Well, this time it was no different, so to Denny's we went. I wanted dessert, the GF wanted real food. I ordered these baby pancake balls, I forget the exact name, but were really, really good! They serve them in a ice cream sundae glass, and give you syrup for your dipping pleasure. She ordered a miniature version of some chicken type dish that was served with tostaditas and ranch sauce. Since these were mini versions of bigger dishes, the prices were also cheaper. My pancake balls were 2.99, so that was pretty cool. You have a sign in the men's room noting that employees must wash their hands but there is no soap in the restroom, so one wonders how your employees follow the instructions. Everything else could be flawless, but a restroom without soap is unforgivable. read more

My husband and I traveled up to Santa Maria because I was took a test. As we got there the restaurant was lonely and we thought to we are not going to have to wait much. The customer service was horrible. The omelet that my husband order had only a few pieces of vegetables, and no kidding only 3 pieces of green bell peppers. The food was cold and when we ask the manager about the omelet, she went back and came out with a mess, it look like they had just thrown-in random vegetables that were not suppose to be in that omelet. She asked us later what my husband though about the omelet and my husband said it was not good, and you know what she said!!!, "oh I did it myself!". Are you kidding me! That is why you have professional cooks. Several complaints about the food were made in the time we were there. Horrible experience ever in a Denny's Restaurant never going to there ever again. I rather go to my ghetto one in Santa ANA, CA were they have excellent customer service, the cook is actually the cook and were they serve hot food. We arrived for lunch and there were many many dirty tables throughout the restaurant, and a table of sketchy clientele using bad language. I did not appreciate my kids hearing that. Okay, it's Denny's. Don't expect much. But at 2 in the morning, after you've left the bar?? it's the best food ever! I do like the Club Sandwich and the burgers. Fries are very good too, but they don't give you very much. The waitresses always seem to be very busy and have more tables then they can handle. (even when it's not the middle of the night). I tried the brownie sundae. it wasn't very good. The brownie tasted very much like coconut for some reason. I don't like coconut. All in all, it's Denny's. it's going to be busy and smell old, that's just how it is. But it's an option if you're hungry and around, they do have a lot of options. My family and I stopped by here for a late meal on July 4 since nothing was open except Denny's. I only had a bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup. It's not the best but it's alright. A bowl was a good enough size. I also tried the Fit Fare Veggie Skillet. It's a variety of vegetables and potatoes. This is a good healthy dish. Service was alright. When we got here, there was less people but towards the end of our meal, more people came in so it got busy kind of quick. This is a good place to go to if there's nothing else open. read more
