I want to start but saying I'm really really picky when it comes to the dentist so after reading all the reviews I was very hesitant to come here. I still decided to give it a try but was very cautious. With that said, I didn't' need to be. It's was a very pleasant experience. When I got there the receptionist at the front desk got me checked in. She thanked me for doing all my paperwork ahead of time online. It probably saved me 10 minutes so if you're short on time do it online before you come. When I checked in I also confirmed I was only there for a routine visit. They confirmed and told me they'll have to do x-rays because they didn't have any on file but they are covered by insurance. If you're worried about getting billed for random stuff just be proactive and ask them ahead of time. Within about 5 minutes the hygienist came and brought me back. We started off with the x-rays which I told her I hated. She did a really good job of getting them done super quick. The rest of the visit was fine. The doc was friendly and talkative. He did the routine, floss more, brush more often, use an electric tooth brush, etc, speech. We were done within the hour which I think is standard for a routine visit with xray's. When I checked out, I once again confirmed that everything was routine and covered by insurance. My husband went a few weeks later and had the same experience. I waited a few weeks before writing this review to make sure we didn't get back charged for anything and we didn't. Will definitely be going back in 6 months! read more

My wife and I had been going to the dental salon for a number of years because their technology was good and because they had great availability (Saturdays and Sundays). Dr. Stec is fantastic, and my wife loved him; however, it is hard to get an opening with him. This is the reason for 2 stars, not 1. It's my personal speculation that this dental group has become a high volume shop that hires dental graduates right out of dental school and incentivizes those young dentist to push product and up sell. My wife had a childhood injury to her tooth that required modest aesthetic work from time to time to patch the small crack. She was talked into getting a veneer by a very bubbly, friendly and approachable young dentist. She convinced my wife that the veneer would be a much more permanent solution, and so she hesitantly followed her advice. Not only was the veneer shoddily down, but the female dentist told my wife that she could no longer bite into an apple. My wife was brushing her teeth the night after it had been installed and the veneer fell straight into the sink. My wife's nerve was exposed and it took a long time before we could be seen. Luckily, Dr. Stec came to the rescue, but my wife will forever be unable to bite into an apple because of this young dentist's incompetence and ignorance. I recently went in to have my teeth cleaned after having waited a full year. I saw a new young dentist, and he very matter of factly told me that I would need two crowns for my back molars. I'm 39, and I've had two cavities in my life. Never had braces. Given my wife's experience, I sought a second opinion at Moskin Dental Associates, and they took no less than 20 X-Rays. There was not even a mention of the need for crowns on my Molars though they did recommend a mouth guard to prevent grinding at night. I'm half convinced that the Dental Salon has sales competitions with their newly hired dentist seeing who can generate the most annual revenue. I can almost see the morning business briefing as the practice reviews the leading young dentists in terms of annual revenue production and provides certain incentives to achieve those goals. This is, of course, wild speculation on my behalf that has no element of truth; however, if you're considering a new dentist, just know that this place is run like a high volume factory. This place is terrible. I was a new patient here having just moved to Chicago and heard good things. However, the lack of professionalism at this office is unreal to me. The dental hygienst told me I looked rough. Dr. Stec told me my teeth looked like "a caramel apple with nuts." The front desk receptionist EJ gave me so much attitude because I mentioned it was an inconvenience to cancel my appointment AN HOUR before it was scheduled due to "scheduling conflicts." I truly havent gotten that much sass since a Saturday night out in Boystown. This office may look like something out of a Restoration Hardware showroom, but the experience was more like a going out of business warehouse sale. I'll pass on the "high end premier dental salon of Chicago" and opt into a practice whose staff cares more about their patients. read more

I've been going to Dental Salon for about 7 years now. I make my appointment and receive a text and phone reminder a day or two before without issue. Office is large and well-staffed and my max wait is 5 minutes from the time of my appointment. Parking is validated in the lot in the building (I think there is a one hour max, but not sure about that). Service is great and never a problem. Forst off I don't really like dentists...let's just get that clear. I was looking and reading reviews for dentists and I happen to come across the Dental Salon located in Chicago. the office is magnificent and the people that work there are even more magnificent. I was seen by Doctor Stec and he is a wonderful dentist. Very detail oriented, sets up a plan for your mouth, goes over that plan and you get to decide if you want to go with it or not. I have been seen by many dentists and I have to say Dr. Stec is my favorite. I was seen on Saturday for extractions and bone marrow reconstruction. My entire procedure went very well. The assistant dentist Denise was gentle and explained what will be done before Dr. Stec even came to the room. I was given purple sutures (which by the way THANK YOU FOR THE COLOR). If you are like me and you do not like getting your teeth touched....this is truly the place to go. If you have questions you can always call the office or they will text you and Rosemary did an outstanding job at replying back to me explaining everything. I have another appointment coming up this Saturday and I truly cannot wait to finally have a full mouth of teeth to where I can smile again. Thank you to Dental Salon. You will not be able to get an appt after work hours unless you are willing to wait 2-3 months. Hygienists were nice, Doctors were all very new. Had X-Rays done there twice, and several cleanings. Wouldn't recommend. *Feedback for your office, I have been a client for almost 2 years and had to wait 2-3 months for this appt. Now I am having to wait another 2-3 months for a reschedule? It's pretty unacceptable. I'm not going to fight this but your team should know, you need more dentists, time slots after work hours or expect to loose patients. *** UPDATE *** Dental Salon has reached out and comped my fees. I live near here and was ok with the constant turnover of dentists. Convenience was always my biggest goal in finding dental service. However, my last experience pushed me over the line. On my last cleaning I was casually asked by the hygienist if I wanted extra procedures, things that seem routine and normal by nature. I of course said yes because who wouldn't want a bit of fluoride, polish and the like? 4 months later, I receive a bill where extras were not covered by my insurance. When I emailed back and forth with the office, I was told that if I disagree with the bill I should call MetLife since DentalSalon followed all protocols. What good is calling an insurance company when the dental group put you into this situation? What sort of company would suggest expensive treatments without knowing if they are covered? I have lost faith that this place cares at all about patients and I'll start to look for a dentist that values relationships over very short term profits. Of course the warning signs are there. The office pushes electric toothbrushes and suggests gum procedures all the time. If you need some quick work done, do your research. If you live nearby, find someone else. They are unapologetic and will get my money this time, but I'm helpless in the situation. read more

This too is my first poor review on Yelp, ever, and after reading recent reviews on the Dental Salon, I don't appear to be alone here. I was a loyal patient of The Dental Salon for 10 years before they, not I, dropped me as a patient after asking difficult questions months after a procedure appeared to go poorly. As noted by many other reviewers, this practice has state-of-the-art technology and convenient evening and weekend hours, but the highest turnover of dentists you'll probably ever see in a practice with many of their dentists newer to the industry. In Dec. 2018, The Dental Salon did a routine 3-tooth bridge replacement. My insurance covered a portion and I paid over $1,000 out of pocket. A couple months after this bridge replacement, I began noticing that one of the teeth in the 3-piece bridge was off in color - it appeared grey. I went in for a cleaning in April 2019 back to the Dental Salon and mentioned it to the same dentist that completed my bridge. The dentist was rather callous, saying the grey color was unnoticeable and that regardless, there was nothing that could be done. Frustrated about my grey tooth, I attempted to follow up with this dentist a couple weeks later via phone, and learned that he resigned. I let the issue go for a few months, which, thinking back I should have been more adamant. During my next cleaning in September 2019 at Dental Salon, I pointed out the grey tooth to another dentist who examined me who noted that indeed the color was off. He took several photos of the tooth, a couple x-rays, and said he would have to consult with the owner. I never received a call back from that dentist or the owner. A month later, in October 2019, I developed an infection out of the blue on a nearby tooth, (not part of the bridge), and had no choice but to extract the tooth, a back molar. After taking additional x-rays, the Dental Salon informed me that my 10-month old porcelain bridge would need to be replaced. They appeared to blame my infection on compromising the bridge - and originally thought the grey tooth was a sign of a dying tooth- but after seeing 2 Endodontists and testing the tooth, it was confirmed that this tooth is alive and well. The Dental Salon claimed that this grey tooth was an indicator of a failing bridge and somehow linked to the infected tooth I had extracted - but the two had no correlation. As I discussed my options, most of my conversations were with the office manager, Katrina. Because this was a complex matter, I asked if Dental Salon would guarantee their work for this bridge; my dental insurance would not cover a bridge they just covered 10 months prior and my out of pocket costs were now $3,500. Dental Salon was adamant about saying no, instead offered me what they called a generous, 10% discount. After requesting to speak to the owner, Dr. Morris, to address these concerns and ask further questions, I received a registered letter saying that they felt they let me down, and asked that I find another establishment. After consulting with other dentists in the city, the new dentists are perplexed by the failed bridge, and are also perplexed why Dental Salon would not guarantee their work for this issue being no fault of my own. Regardless, the bridge has to be replaced. Dental Salon: Ghosting patients who ask tough questions is not a best practice, nor is not guaranteeing your work that is just months old, nor is ignoring patient requests to talk to the business owner. My guess is there are just as equally unhappy dentists in this practice as there are patients, as both sectors of the business seem to have a lot of turnover. read more

Please please please don't go here. I wish zero stars was an option. This is my first Yelp review ever. After reading hundreds over the years, this is the first time I've written a review because I feel compelled to warn others. I wish I had done my research before going here. Here are the facts of what happened: 1. I went in for a routine cleaning. The Dentist Dr. Marjan said that she thought I had two minor cavities underneath existing my fillings. She suggested I have the filling removed & redone. She did not tell me about any potential risks or downside, so I figured I might as well. I even asked her about the need for a root canal but she dismissed that. 2. After the fillings I was in a fair amount of pain. I went back in to see Dr. Marjan a week later but she simply brushed it off and said it would go away. 3. After a full month of pain I went back again to see a different Dentist at Dental Salon (Dr. Longo). He said I needed a root canal because the filling was so close to the nerve (this was news to me). He also said that after looking at my x-rays, he would have recommended I simply monitor the cavities and NOT have them redone given the risks. Also news to me. 4. I then went in to see their endodontist Dr. El Sabek for a root canal. At the end of the procedure he informed me that he had broken his file in one of my roots and could not remove it. He said good chance it's fine, but there's a chance it will get infected and I will need to have my tooth removed. He also told me I might need ANOTHER root canal on my other tooth. 5. One week later I am in a severe amount of pain. I have since gone to a new Endodontist but also learned that the previous procedures maxed out my insurance so any additional costs will be out of pocket. So as a result: - I am on my 7th dental visit in 8 weeks and still in a lot of pain - I am out thousands of dollars - I am at risk for losing a tooth (which is incredibly expensive) I so wish I had read reviews of Dental Salon and thought twice about going here for any real dental work. If you want to just get your teeth cleaned this place is good enough but I recommend finding a real practice for anything beyond that. I'm hoping someone else can benefit from my unfortunate situation. read more

I think this might be one of the worst dental places you could go. I've always known it wasn't great, but I didn't take initiative to find another dentist which was my own fault. But let me make a list for you: When I had to get fillings, one of the fillings wasn't properly identified and while in my mouth told me she might have to do a root canal. She opted not to I guess and just gave me a very large filling instead. (I now need to get a crown on that tooth) Another one of those fillings that dentist gave me ended up cracking, and has been cracked for lord knows how long. I had to switch to a new dentist right before I moved, and experienced the worst dental cleaning and exam I EVER have. I mean honestly it felt like I was participating in a scene from American Psycho. On top of that the dentist then told me I needed SEVEN fillings. Seven! I didn't doubt that I had one, but I certainly doubted I had 7. I doubted it especially because I've had a stain on my tooth for a few years now that I've specifically asked about and have always been told it's nothing. He said no, thats a cavity. Hmm.. sure. He quickly gave me a prescription for fluoride toothpaste which I promptly never purchased. I found a dentist in the city I moved to and after procrastinating a few months and finally got in. She told me I have 3 cavities. One is very small, one is because of the cracked filling, and the other is on the tooth that needed a root canal. That spot he swore was a cavity? Once again disproven. Sometimes it isn't until you seek an opinion from someplace else that you realize how bad a place is. I'm lucky I found a place who not only takes x-rays and photos, but actually shows them to you and explains exactly what you're looking at so you're educated about what's going on inside your own mouth. All I can do is urge everyone to find a place that keeps it real with them. You deserve that, and this place is not that place. read more

I am a now ex-patient of the dental salon and I am beyond angry at the fact that I drove 40 minutes to get here on a Sunday only to be told that my appointment was canceled due to the doctors schedule. This is the second time in a row that my appointment was canceled. My appointment was scheduled for 1:20 PM on a Sunday. When I arrived at approximately 1:15 PM. I was told that my doctor will not be able to see me so I requested another. Of course they would not be able to accommodate me since the schedule was full and it's a Sunday. I eventually made another appointment with another dentist for the following Sunday. 20 minutes after left I received a phone call for me to pay the entire co-pay for my visit upfront over the phone. The receptionist told me that I could pay my co-payment of $280 ahead of time to lock in my appointment. I feel that it is extremely thirsty and money hungry to request fees in advance for procedures to lock in an appointment. The focus is money here not the patient! read more

I have never liked going to the dentist and have been very scared of the needles and the entire process. I would wait until the last possible moment making the work more extensive. I should have had my wisdom teeth removed years ago but of course I didn't. So my visit was to finally have 1 wisdom tooth removed due to being extremely loose and very painful, got in the chair and Dr. Stec said the companion tooth needed to be removed also so I decided one terrifying moment instead of 2 was worth it. Dr. Stec numbed me up came in and in less than 10 seconds had both teeth out with no pain no tears nothing. I sat waiting on him to remove the 2 teeth and he said you're all done you did great I said NO you ate awesome. I will definitely be returning as long as Dr. Stec is there I'll be there. Follow-up: Day 2 after tooth extraction no pain I'm able to eat I feel GREAT!!!!!! Thanks so my Sr. Stec and The Dental Salon staff you are all amazing folks. read more

This place is a PROFIT CENTER, NOT A DENTIST OFFICE. Beware of their scams and take your services elsewhere. I would never trust my teeth with these people. I need to start off by saying I had a wonderful dentist in Chicago and one at home in KY. Unfortunately, I made a bad decision in lowering my dental insurance through work and Dental Salon was one of the few places (3) in Chicago that took my new insurance. The appointment started off with digital pictures of my mouth and then x-rays. The dentist immediately came in and told me that I need a crown for over an older filling. I have a handful of fillings this is true, but I have never needed anything beyond that. Second, after looking at the digital pictures the dentist started poking around in my mouth. Fine. I guess this was his extent of periodontal charting. I have had periodontal charting in the past and a normal dentist will call out two numbers (1-6) for each tooth indicating the health of the tooth. This was not done here. The dentist then told me I needed deep cleaning which was an additional charge and I would need to come three times a year. No. I told the dentist I would get back to him and that for today I would like to get my normal preventative maintenance cleaning and this is where I got pissed. After a long back and forth I was told I needed to sign a waiver. This waiver does not even look like an official document and has scare tactic language. The dentist (!), not the hygienist, then started cleaning my teeth. This has never happened to me before. The dentist spent an entire 5 min (I noted on my phone that was in my lap) doing a normal preventative cleaning. Let's be honest, I know I have more plague than that. During this 5 min cleaning, the dentist continued to tell me that he was going outside of his scope but trying to get close to the gum line which was more of a deep cleaning territory. I have dry mouth which has always been a problem because I am a mouth a breather. Therefore my gums often bleed. At the end of the 5 min cleaning, the dentist put gauze in my mouth and said "oh your bleeding quite a bit. Hopefully we can get this bleeding to stop." He made me feel as if I was going to bleed out right in that chair from his subpar cleaning. Needless to say I left upset about the care I received. I called the next day to get my X-rays, pictures and periodontal charting to send to my family friend and my dentist in KY who is phenomenal. She reviewed my X-rays and surprise, no dental work (crown) needed. My periodontal charting did not show up until a few days later and had a couple of 5's and 6's noted on a couple of teeth in each of the four quadrants of the mouth. This seemed strange since, as I said the dentist never called out numbers to me, a common practice, and in prior chartings I had never scored above a 4. I got my prior year charting which we reviewed together and she agreed that it looked like the dentist made up the current periodontal charting once I asked for it because a handful of 3s don't become a 6 overnight. I can deal with the scams, but I'm pissed I felt like my teeth didn't even get the normal cleaning I paid for and deserve which could be detrimental to my oral health. I can't wait to switch my dental coverage back to my old plan so I don't have to deal with offices like this again. Unfortunately, for other people this is their only option and those people deserve better, which is why I will be reporting my experience to the BBB and FBI because this is classic medical fraud. read more

A couple years ago, I suddenly started experiencing a throbbing pain on the left side of my mouth. My face and lymph nodes were swollen on that side and I had a low-grade fever. I contacted Dental Salon and they were able to squeeze me in on a emergency basis which I was very pleased with. After having an X-ray done, it was confirmed that I needed a root canal. The dentist that I saw said that he could not do it himself because my roots are curved in a weird way on some of my teeth (the offending tooth being one of them), thus the procedure would be too complex. He prescribed antibiotics and gave me a referral to an office in Lincoln Park. They did a perfect job and I have not had an issue with that tooth since. That was in 2015. The same year, I had a crown done on the opposite tooth (lower right molar, farthest in the back). It didn't really feel "right" after the procedure, but sometimes a new crown can take a bit of getting used to, so I let it go. It wasn't really causing me pain, just felt a bit odd. And then I noticed a small abscess forming on the gum by that tooth, but it wasn't really bothering me so I let it go. Since I wasn't experiencing the symptoms I experienced when I previously needed a root canal, I didn't think that was the problem. Then, I unfortunately got laid off from my job and was without dental insurance for a short period of time. It was confirmed that I needed a root canal when I visited an oral surgeon for an unrelated issue and had X-rays done. I wasn't very pleased with Dental Salon because I felt that the whole point of getting a crown (which is not cheap!) is to preserve/protect the tooth - and here I developed an infection right after they did the work. I have several crowns and this has never happened to me before, so I kind of felt like they screwed it up. Unfortunately, there's really no way to know now. I contacted Dental Salon to see if they could make a referral to the same office that did my previous root canal. I was told, no, they now have an endodontist in the office on Saturdays and he could do it. I felt a little unsure about this, but I needed to get the work done, so I reluctantly agreed to the appointment. I would tell you the name of the endodontist I saw, but he never introduced himself. Very poor bedside manner. After reviewing the X-ray, he told me that a root canal would be too risky and likely unsuccessful and a better option would be to just pull the tooth. I was livid. Pulling a tooth should be a last resort! He really didn't seem confident at all. (Whereas the endodontist I previously saw for my other tooth warned me of the risks, but seemed positive and optimistic about the procedure.) I politely pointed out to him that I had a successful root canal done on the opposite tooth that has the same issue with weirdly curved roots. He pulled up an old X-ray and told me that the situation with that tooth was different because there wasn't an infection. Ummm...what? I'm pretty sure I had an infection, since I was given antibiotics and all! I understand that the root canal was done at another office and maybe they didn't have some of those records, but I know they did X-rays at their office both before and after the root canal, and additionally it was a dentist at their office who prescribed the antibiotics. Obviously there's an problem with their record keeping here. I wasn't going to consent to having the tooth pulled, so I had the root canal done. Wasn't really impressed. Compared to the other root canal, this guy worked quicker and less carefully. I'd guess the procedure took about half the time of my previous root canal. The X-ray after showed that he wasn't able fully clean out the roots, but he got most of it done, and the abscess is gone now. So, it wasn't a complete success but not a complete failure either. Long story short, I'll be looking for a new dentist. read more

It's a shame to see all of these negative reviews on here. I've been a patient of Dr. Stec's at Dental Salon for over two years now, and I've had no problems at all. I've had multiple cleanings, emergency visits, and 4 wisdom teeth extracted here and have no complaints! I appreciate the office's hours and their willingness to help get you in when you're in pain! Dr. Stec is also a very talented dentist with plenty of good humor to get you through your appointment. Before becoming a patient here, I was FULL of dental anxiety. Now, I can actually say that I don't mind coming to the dentist at all.
