Heed my warning: Don't be seduced by the fancy lobby. This place is in it for the short game with their customers. Don't become their next victim. The office is nice and they do the best to give a spa-like experience, but they hire the worst dentists and hygienists ever. Outside of the turnstyle employment of staff, this place felt worst than a used car salesman selling lemons. But let's get to the real issues. I wonder if I can file a malpractice suit (lawyers reach out): Issue 1: I was misdiagnosed with gum disease. I'd never had gingivitis prior to the diagnosis. I consulted other dentist to confirm my misdiagnosis. Issue 2: I had a root canal poorly done here . Ultimately, the canal got infected resulting in me having to get the work redone. Fortunately, I found a legitimate dental office and the rework was successful thanks to having a real endodontic surgeon do the work. Issue 3: I had two crowns done here. Both failed and needed to be replaced. Most of these issues develop over time so you should get out before it's too late. read more

I returned to Dental Salon exactly 10 years after my wisdom tooth removal. Dr. Stec is the reason I returned and I am glad I did. The entire practice was as professional and efficient as I remembered them over a decade ago. Dr. Stec is just brilliant - thorough, patient, and above all, he is really good at his craft. I had bern dealing with a stubborn molar tooth that first underwent a root canal and a crown. Then, the tooth got infected and needed another root canal and a crown resurface. During the recovery process the tooth fractured and could not be salvaged. Dr. Stec had all that going against him, plus a massive infection (due to the crack in my tooth), yet the removal was impeccable. The tooth came out in one piece and Dr. Stec proceeded with a bone graft. It was a flawless experience from scheduling my appointment, to the insurance verification process, and throughout the actual procedure. The entire office staff was nice, and so was Dr. Stec's assistant, Chris, whom I bombarded with questions he did not hesitate to indulge AND give me a crash course on what one learns in dental school! I got a crown put in here earlier this year. I switched dentists since then, and when my new dentist took one look at the crown they put in, they were horrified. She genuinely could not believe that a dentist had done such a poor job. I stopped coming here because the wait times were ridiculous (with a pre-booked appointment), and my dentist, Dr. Patel, was incredibly rude. Finding out the crown she gave me needs to be replaced now is the icing on top. Do not come here. read more

Ok, I take it back, Yelp filtered my review out, not the business owner. To update, the owner messaged me and said according to the x-ray, I needed a large filling due to cavity. However, that's not what I was told. I was told by the doctor and his assistant that I needed a CROWN. If that's really the case, tell me "you might have a large cavity in your tooth, that might need a root canal and maybe a crown". Don't simply tell me "you need another crown". 4 months have passed and the tooth with that supposedly large cavity still hasn't hurt a bit. I guess I will take my chances. Remember the blister I mentioned in my previous review, guess what? That tooth was infected, and that's the tooth with the crown Dr. Gasser put over. My new dentist had to take this newly placed crown away, clean my tooth, put me on antibiotics, and put in a new crown. I certainly will never return. read more

Dr. Patel & her assistant-Krystal are very knowledgeable, kind, and timely in all procedures they've done. They always explain what I need and how it's going to be done after they ask what I want. Do not go here. It's hard to even put this into words but I had to say something. This place over treated me to the point where they pulled 3 teeth before explaining to me how much anything would cost. I went in there for one tooth to be looked at. I thought they knew what they were doing or someone would first explain the cost to me. I had got a new job the year before and dreamed of getting my teeth checked out. When my insurance finally kicked in I was excited to finally see a dentist. Being in the situation I am in now its so sad. I went in with all my teeth and no pain. If I would have known the cost of a single tooth implant I would not have let them pull my teeth. They just did it really quick on the spot. This was sadly only the beginning of my trouble there. One of my premolars was supposed to get a crown. They put this implant in my tooth and left the room. "Hold your mouth open." They said, and left the room. I try (moaning?) to get someone in the room because I cant just hold my mouth open I need one of those things to bite down on to relax my jaw. They don't come back for 20-30 mins. When they come back they said I bit down on the implant and now they have to pull the tooth. I suddenly felt scared. They had just pulled my two back teeth and now needed to pull a front one. My heart fell to my stomach. My back teeth were so hard to pull and they had to break them into small pieces take out. They put bone grafts in and sent me home. The places they put the bone grafts in got infected and swelled up. The bone grafts were coming out constantly. It felt like sand in my mouth. When I go back they tell me there is not enough bone for an implant. They have a doctor there who tells me he would have to do two sinus lifts on my back teeth because if they do an implant it might puncture my sinus. They had me meet with the surgeon who would be doing the sinus lifts and I'm starting to sweat. Then they brought me to the front and gave me a bill for about $11,000 asking how I would like to pay. My heart dropped again. By this point we were a couple months into the treatment. It had already cost me about $3,000 out of pocket. A guy with slick back hair in a ponytail took me to a back room where he tried to explain the cost and sell me some credit. I'm sitting there with all this pain and sadness wondering what has happened to me. I take the bill and go home and google search this place. Thats when I found the terrible Yelp reviews. I started to feel sick because I had spent thousands, used all my insurance, and got second insurance. Looking back, every step of the way they tried to keep the costs from me and never explained anything. The dentist who was treating me then left. This was almost one year ago. As you can imagine a long period of depression set in after my treatment there. I tried to write this review a few times but it's really hard to talk about as I feel completely alone in all this. I'm constantly in pain and cant eat much. I look so gross when I smile. Its terrible. I'm writing this review hoping that someone sees it before going there. I was butchered. They will try to take you for everything you have. There's actually so much more stuff that they messed up. I cant write it all here but maybe I can add more later. I know this is poorly written but I wanted to finally get something out. I dont want someone else to get this kind of treatment. I see a lot of people on here got out before it was too late, or saw through what they were doing. Unfortunately I did not. If I would have checked Yelp first I would have seen the reviews and not gone. read more

Wow such polarizing reviews on this business. I have been a patient at the Dental Salon for at least 4 years. My personal experience with Dental Salon has been good. I had an appointment today with Asia (hygienist) and have to give her 5 stars for her service, demeanor and being extra thorough with the cleaning. This has to be by far one of the best cleanings I have had at the DS. The staff handles insurance claims pretty consistently and other than this time, I have never had a problem with them verifying eligibility. I work for an insurer so the fact that I had to call a rep and then connect someone on DS was a little above the call of duty for a patient if you are expecting this to be done seamlessly. The staff called to say I didn't have insurance when they were looked at Delta instead of BCBS. All was worked out eventually of course. I chalk it up to new staff. As for the actual clinicians. I have seen several 1) Dr. Glud, 2) Dr. Scott 3) Dr. Sheffield I loved all of my dentists and wished that they would have stayed. My dentist today was pretty nice and informed me I was cavity free. The reason I docked one star was because there is extremely high turnover of the dentists as well as the desk staff. The last few years have been quite the revolving door for DS. I like to build a relationship with all my clinicians and having them leave the practice with such high frequency really interrupts this process. I am sad to see some of the comments from other reviewers. I have worked at DS as a staff member so there is some truth to the comments regarding taping and video. I wish there was a statement at the beginning when you call them stating that you are on a recorded line. I assume this is for training purposes but people have a right to know when their conversations are being recorded right? read more

First time reviewer here. My experience was so poor I felt the need to let others know. I am new to the city and needed a new dentist. However, the cleaning I received I could have completed myself at home. It was over within 10 minutes, no plaque cleaning and did not even attempt to clean around my permanent retainers. I left without feeling like I had even brushed my teeth. Very disappointing compared to my past dental experience at the same dentist for 23 years. Will not be going back! I'm worried my teeth would become terrible if I continued here. read more

This place is very zen and spa like...very relaxing. The chair they have you sit in while they are doing work on you just molds to you. When I made my first appointment they emailed me my paperwork so when I arrived for my appointment I just walked in, handed over my paperwork and sat back and chilaxed. The dentist was great. She was fairly young and very friendly and chatty. I was concerned that I would have to have a root canal but luckily I just had to have a cavity filled and crown put on. They also offer Zoom treatments. I do plan on making this my regular dentist as it's right around the corner from where I work and the environment made me very relaxed which to me is very important...especially in a dentist's office. Edit 1/10/08 Went in today after having a filling come out. They didn't do the filling but they were the first people I called. Well my husband was the first person I called so I could whine to him but he wasn't picking up. Anyhow...I called them second, they set up a time for me to come in the next day...which was today. I had to get an overlay...bummer. But the procedure went smoothly and again it's the most relaxing dentist office I've ever been in. They are just so friendly there...from the girls at the front desk to the dental assistant and dentists. So here I sit with my temp on and I've lived to tell another review. Terrible experience. First, Dental Salon did a root canal and put on a crown, and I ended up having to go to a specialist to fix the botched root canal after I developed an infection in my jaw. Now the crown chipped and I attempted to get more information about whether I need to replace it or not, and the dentist was very evasive, argumentative, and defensive, so I now need to go to a different dentist so I can find out if I need to replace it or not. Very frustrating and I will not be going back. read more

The Dental Salon on North Ave never fails I recently had a visit on 12/13. When it comes to the experience, it's always the little things that stick out the most. There hasn't been a time when I've visited for an appointment and the reception person doesn't know my name, Kailey was the receptionist this time around. It creates a personal connection that makes me feel welcomed and that I'm in the right place. From my most recent visit, Dr. Shaikh and Elyse worked with me for a cleaning and exam. Dr. Shaikh did an amazing job of calming me with her humor and helping me to not tense up during the cleaning, she truly was a joy to work with. Lana continued with her assistance to Dr. Shaikh and Dr. Elyse and provided such a warm interaction. The experience with Dr. Elyse was great and efficient; there hasn't been a bad experience yet, and I've been going at least 5 years strong! I was referred to the Dental Salon (Chicago) to see a specialist and ended up changing them to my primary dentist for routine work after having such a great experience there. The staff are professional, knowledgeable, and great at easing anxiety with patients who get nervous while in the chair. They took time to answer all of my questions and make sure I was comfortable with the procedure before moving forward with it. Went to the Dental Salon for the first time for a check up and cleanin. It was a great experience. Dr Azande was awesome and Krystal the dental assistant was great. The appointment was on time, thorough, quick and my teeth feel very clean. I'd highly recommend the Dental Salon if you're looking for a dental group. They also took my insurance. Go here only if you're a big fan of unnecessary dental work. My insurance changed last year, so I was not able to go to the dentist I previous went to and trusted in Chicago, so I resorted to Dental Salon. Long story short, my "dental issues" escalated from slight sensitivity in a upper molar's older filling and a spot-free xray to intense pressure from the dentist to get not one, but TWO crowns at the sound of $2,000. This escalation happened in a mere minutes, so my b.s. radar kicked in. My b.s. radar went off even more when they pulled me out of my dental chair (bib and everything still on) and into a separate room to try to "sell" me on the crowns. I asked for copies of my xrays and said I would call them back. I sent the xrays to my aunt (a hygienist) and the dentist she works with downstate, and they said they absolutely saw no need for either crown. Knowing that examining xrays and actual teeth are very different, I was not immediately mad. I knew I was not going back there, but I didn't think they were completely trying to scam me. That was until I went back to my old dentist today, and she told me I only need one filling. Yup. The reason why I'm giving two stars instead of one is that it is super easy and convenient, and the cleaning was good. But again, unless your list of interests include setting thousands of dollars on fire, novocaine shots and getting your teeth drilled, I would not go to Dental Salon. read more

This place just continues to stay amazing! I started my journey here 6 months ago and despite being a bit "down," physically, following the visit...I still took time to praise this place. Today, following the 6 month, successful completion of the implant process and a cleaning...I still have nothing but excellent things to say! I came here randomly, on an emergency basis and flat out found the best dentist and office in the city. First of all, the skill of the dentist and hygienist (Dr. Stec and Jane) are exceptional period! Next, the entire staff is extremely customer centered, detailed throughout every single area from scheduling, to billing, informed communication and beyond. Now, while all of that is of the upmost importance, there is also extreme value to weekend hours! Having impeccable service in a beautiful office, all while gaining the stress free ability to beat Chicago's "ratchet" continuous traffic nightmares on 90/94, by knocking out a dental appointment on a Sunday morning...is priceless! I am almost excited that I had a dental emergency, or I would have never found this place! read more

Typically can't stand going to the dentist at all but my experiences here have been so positive. They are so kind and professional it's easier to relax a bit. Dr. Priscilla was a great fit for someone like me who gets anxious at the dentists office. I liked how she explained everything in detail ahead of time, explained exactly how I can ask for a break if I need it, and continued to narrate what she was doing while working on me. She also checked in regularly which allowed me to provide verbal/visual Consent as the procedure went along. I appreciated feeling like I actually had bodily autonomy and could tap out if I felt I needed too. Overall great environment considering the circumstances. Best dental visit I've ever had, from the moment I walked in Meena was so welcoming and friendly. Dr. Lavagnolli is every bit of amazing, her attention to detail and service was impeccable. She was so personable which made me feel like she cared and I wasn't just another number. Krystal was awesome as well, she was so delicate and made sure I was comfortable throughout my cleaning. I have been a patient for many years. I was introduced to the Dental Salon late on a Saturday evening when I cracked a tooth. I was thrilled to see they were open on Sunday and I was able to get an appointment immediately. Dr. Stec took care of my tooth and his very calm and relaxed demeanor made the experience (I was in a lot of pain before my appointment) painless. He makes coming to the dentist very relaxing. I cannot say enough about my dental hygienist Rebecca who is also phenomenal. She is excellent and gentle and really takes time with her patients. Both Dr. Stec and Rebecca make a visit to the dentist a wonderful experience. From the moment you walk in, from the front office staff to the dental assistants, everyone is very kind and professional. Teresa at the front desk was delightful and Levi, my dental assistant who assisted with my routine cleaning was gentle and thorough. Everyone is polite, professional and very knowledgeable.
