This review may have been influenced, in part, by the nostalgia that I was feeling in relations to being back in Springfield after more than 10 years. One of my many stops on my visit to Tennessee is Springfield where I met with friends whom I have not seen in so many year. My friend suggested we meet at The Depot which, as much as I wracked my brain, I could not remember if i have been to in the many years that I have spent in the city. I do remember Torino's, Catfish house, Larry's, and even the Chinese restaurant (which stood witness to the countless phone orders we've made while working 3-11 at the local nursing home)but not The Depot. I agreed to the suggestion but wishing we would have gone somewhere familiar. My friend and I drove from Nashville and got in a little early. We went in and was seated right away. We explained that we were meeting a couple of people so they seated us at the one of the booths. The restaurant is nice with brick walls and train-themed decors. There is a railroad located just outside the restaurant but I am not sure if it is still functional. The vibe of the restaurant is casual and comfortable- pretty much something that you would expect from a Southern restaurant in a small-town of Springfield.. The restaurant isn't too big, thus would probably require people to wait on busy weekend nights. If I am not mistaken, they do not take reservations. The host and servers were friendly and accommodating. They gave us the menu as soon as we were seated but gave us plenty of time to browse while waiting for our lunch companions. When our friends arrived, they were ushered into the booth where we were seated. We spent a few minutes catching up before we put in our order. The chicken wings were good and so was the fried fish. The sweet potato fries that came with the fish was delish and left the most impression on me. Catching up and talking took center stage that I cannot even remember what my friends had. I distinctly remember having creme brulee for dessert but again was too busy talking to pay much attention to the food :) The prices, to me, were reasonable and okay. One of our friend came about an hour or so late which was fine with us since we didn't really have any plans for the rest of the day. We talked some more while he ate. The server was sweet and was not in least upset that we were hogging the table for a long time. Of course, it was after lunch so it was a bit slow. Restaurant was clean and orderly. Restrooms were okay. Parking is provided in the parking lot next to the restaurant. Overall, a nice little restaurant that was a perfect setting for catching up with friends. Will definitely be back if I am in the area. read more

Who knew I would ever step foot in Springfield. Who also knew that this little gem would serve such delicious foods! We came here on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate our cousin's birthday. First thing I noticed was how small the place was. I heard that sometimes, there are big waits but we came at 3pm so we were lucky enough to be seated. They did have a lot of servers, though. So I'm sure they're prepared when they get busy. What did I like? My friend had their chicken quesadilla. It was so good!! if I wasn't really hungry, I probably would have ordered that. I ended up ordering their voodoo pasta. It came with big shrimps and sausage. It was a little spicy but it was just fine. Delicious! big portion! My fiancé had the shrimp and grits. That- that was beyond amazing. Definitely recommend getting it. He ordered bourbon mushroom on the side and I really loved that, too! Everybody in our table really enjoyed their food. Our server was really attentive and nice. Too bad it's so far from me but I will make sure to stop by this place next time I'm in Springfield. read more

I could eat here every night. There is so much to choose from on the menu. My go-to is always the VooDoo pasta. It's a spicy penne pasta with andouille sausage, shrimp and grilled chicken. Their margaritas are good and their beer is ice cold. Their chicken spring rolls are good as well as the fried pickles. Also, their house salad is so great! They put little tortilla strips on them to give it the right amount of crunch. The only downfall of this place is how small the building is. So if you go during a busy time be prepared to wait for a table. They do offer call ahead seating which I would high recommend. read more

FOUR stars for a solid restaurant. This place is a favorite amongst locals. It's a refreshing environment for the area! Cool building with a great history and fun for the family (especially if your party of 6+ gets the coveted window by the passing trains!!). We have come several times and it's always a solid, consistent experience. I crave their smoked salmon dip...which is usually what I get for my meal with a side salad. If you're a fan of blue cheese, this place does it right!! It's no ranch with 2 granules of blue cheese...NOPE! It's a container of blue cheese they just sprinkle with dressing. I LOVE it! My husband has had their burger, chicken sandwich, ribs, wraps...he's a fan too! If, after reading this positive review, why I'm only giving it 4 instead of 5 stars?! The answer is: grease. I know fried food will contain grease (I know how frying works) but when you can see the excessive shinyness and there is a piddle below the item (egg roll, chips, cheese sticks, etc....) that's too far. Just rest the food for 30 seconds on an absorbent material and that will not happen. Please. I already feel bad about ordering an unhealthy item, but I work need the grease reminder! In summation: this is a great place for a date night, casual enough for a family dinner, or just grab a drink and dessert. I love that it won't break the bank and you'll feel full!! What I love about this place is its consistency in prices, food, and service. You're not going for a fancy dinner, well I guess you could, but really the friendly atmosphere of this restaurant has stayed the same for decades. With the recent uprise of expensive eateries and whatnot, it is nice to have a place where you can go and just enjoy a simple meal without the extra ornaments. Although long, stay with me here for an accurate review. Oh where to start? How about call ahead seating 30 minutes ahead only to arrive within 30 minutes and wait an additional 30 minutes for a seat like we'd never called in the first place. Eh, no biggie there. So we eventually get seated by the host and after a 5 minute wait with no server arriving at our table, the host returns asking for our drink order. We go ahead and order our meals at this time as well. Give or take 10 minutes, a server I'd been watching laugh and cut up with at another table walks by and I ask "excuse me sir, are you are server?" He answers "yes, do you need anything?" My response was "not right no but wanted to check if you were actually our server because you'd not even acknowledged us being here." His response was "yea, it's really busy." Well, not if you're at the table he's giving all the attention to I thought. Went to the restroom during our food wait. No soap or hand towels in the bathroom. Imagine that because everyone loves using hand sanitizer and toilet paper. Skip forward, meals arrive (by the kitchen runner). Food tasted good I admit. My thoughts were at least the kitchen got it right. After eating, I had to flag my server down for the check. First time back since my asking mind you. That's two visits total! Check comes and it has an 18% gratuity included. That was enough for me. I actually got up and went looking for management. Found her and explained my situation. Even asked if 18% gratuity added to a party of two was typical. She assured me no it was not and deeply apologized saying the meal would be compensated. I exclaimed that was not necessary but she insisted since this was our first visit here. I was very pissed at this point, but by her hospitality, I defused and just wanted out of there. Visualize this though, we sat directly next to the bar. Right at my back and throughout our entire meal, my wife had to try to ignore a drunk couple at the bar with his hand up her skirt and her licking on his neck. While one may think that's not too bad, they were every bit of 60 years old. Try scarfing your food down while that's happening at your back and your wife don't even want to look up. Later that evening after us processing all that had transpired, I thought well, can I really complain since the meal was free?? Actually yes. At midnight when I was awaken by stomach cramps and basically going number one out of a number two area. Yep, I had somehow gotten sick from eating there. Looks like the kitchen didn't get it right after all. Worst experience ever and personally guarantee I will never return. Wanna roll the dice? Good luck! read more

We just happened upon on this by accident. So happy we did. Many people were standing outside waiting but we were able to find two spots at the small bar. Chas was a very efficient and great bartender. We started out with the soup of the day which was beer cheese. This soup was thick, creamy and delicious. We shared the Texas Tails dinner. At $22 this is a bargain! It starts with biggest house salad I have ever had. The salad was fresh and included chopped tomatoes, bacon bits and tortilla strips. Rolls melted in your mouth. The Texas Tails were the part of the beef tenderloin cut off from the filet. It was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. We chose garlic mashed potatoes as our side which were creamy with a hint of garlic. They had many sides to pick from. The menu for the Depot was varied and had many offerings.
