I took my one year old teacup maltipoo for haircut, shampoo, and nail trimming. I have always kept her brushed. However, the person told me that she could feel some mats. I told her that I found them and it was easy to brush them out. When I returned the staff at Der Pet Haus had shaved her entire body to a half inch coat. There are even bear spots with no hair. I was told it would be $60 but they charged me $80. She is a 10 pound dog that had a beautiful coat that was destroyed and shaved down to nothing. She was sheered like sheep are sheered. With extremely cold temperatures in the low 40s she no longer has a coat to keep her warm when outside. I now will be required to keep her indoors until her coat comes back. Der Pet Haus never asked me what I wanted her coat to be trimmed to they did what they wanted to do and the hell with the customer's opinion. I will never take my dog back to them, and I will refer other dog owners to go elsewhere. read more

I just so happened to be parked in front of Der Pet Haus when they were closed; and saw something disturbing. I saw someone "grooming" a dog in a very rough way. There was someone there observing the whole thing. You would think that anyone who works with pets would have a love for them, and that love would be demonstrated even when they're being groomed. It is not necessary to be rough with them. It's no wonder the dogs come away shaken and scared. They can't speak for themselves; so we need to watch out for them. The foremost and essential ingredient to work with pets, is love for the animals feel comfortable and safe. And the next very important ingredient is trust. People need to know that when their pet is in the care of someone that they are loved and safe. My heart goes out to that dog! Hopefully something is done about this worker or any worker who mishandles our beloved pets! read more

No one that works with pets should be allowed to be working with animals and should be fired, and anyone else that knows it's happening and does nothing to stop it. My dog has been here four times now. We got Devon the first time and she did a beautiful job on the body. The three times after that we have had a different person each time and each time the cut has gotten worse. This last time she came back and it looks like her fur was cut with a knife and fork. Hair different lengths all over, face looks bizarre, they shave the eyes to look like she's wearing sunglasses. Head cut going back into a step. They keep them all day, so all day without going to the bathroom, sitting in a crate. I do think they used to be excellent but with the demand for dog grooming they have turned into a factory churning them out without any thought to the haircut. read more

My dog was very very shaky coming her the last few times so I switched to a new groomer. They told me she growled (which she never does at home when I brush her) with certain movements indicating they think this groomer hit her during grooming. I can only go on what was told to me but I'm super concerned with all the similar yelp reviews and would never bring my animal here. My dog is 11 lbs and a poodle. The staff are not knowledgeable of the services offered and will reserve an appt for a new client but then the groomer will turn you away when you show up because they aren't taking new clients at this time. Super happy with my pet service today. My Australian Labradoodle was needing a hair cut and I was dreading taking her because the last 2 years she has been given awful haircuts. Groomers didn't have the time to give her a proper haircut and would just shave it all off because it was easier/quicker for them. After reading several positive reviews for Der Pet Haus I decided to take her in for a full haircut. I was so incredibly happy to see the fabulous job that Vivian gave to Annie. I took my two English Springers there for years. The actual grooming was top notch and my groomer was great. However my first indication of issues started when I witnessed a groomer slap a small dog restrained on a grooming table. I convinced myself it was in the course of working with difficult dogs. Then I noticed my younger dog started being downright frightened when I took him there to groom. I knew he did not like being blow dried but he hated even looking at the building. My last straw came when I picked him up from an appt and he was coughing. He coughed and gagged off and on the whole night. It was obvious he had been restrained by a collar, fought the drying and was ALLOWED TO INJURE his windpipe. NO animal care facility should ALLOW an animal to do that. They should have told me that they cannot safely groom him. I was outraged, let my groomer know and never returned. I don't know why this place has such bad reviews! I have a very timid medium-haired rescue kitty who does not do well with strangers. I had to bring him to the groomer's though because his fur has been catching stool and he is desperate for a sanitary trim. I don't have the skills to trim his nails or fur myself. I also requested a bath, nail trim, and a trim around his ears, paws, and back legs. The fur around his paw pads have been too long and causing him to slip when running on my wooden floor. I was happy to hear that my scaredy cat did very well and there was no signs of cuts! He is an escape artist and is super slippery so that was my main concern especially with the paw trim. They kept his fur fluffy instead of just shaving him bald like some groomers do with cats. I can tell that the groomers are experienced and skilled. When he arrived home, he didn't seem too nervous and cuddled in bed with me in no time :) Also, the price is affordable! Cheaper than the quote they gave me on the phone (prices will vary based on the quality of your pet's fur) and cheaper than Petsmart. read more

For starters I hate writing BAD or ONE Star Reviews but I felt the need to share my side of the story for the sake of other dog owners thinking of getting their dog(s) groomed here... We just moved here from California and our Maltese mix was looking a bit shaggy since her last haircut was back home. There were recommendations from friends/neighbors urging me to try this place so I felt confident enough to give it a shot. The place itself is not particularly easy to find as it's in a parking lot behind the Auto-Zone and across from Walmart. We walked in late but Taylor was accommodating. She asked what kind of style I wanted and I told her Puppy/Teddy bear cut but not too short. When I came back for pick up I noticed that she rang me up for payment at the counter first instead of having the courtesy to get my dog first and at least show me what she looked like. I was slightly annoyed by this but had higher expectations from what I've heard so I tried to be optimistic. After paying she went back to get my baby girl and from what I saw at first glance seemed reasonable although I wasn't too happy. During the drive back, upon further inspection I noticed that her face was unevenly cut with hair shorter on one side and way too much shaved between the corners of her eyes/top of nose. It didn't look anything like a Teddy bear or Puppy cut, her chin was too short, chunk of hair under her eye missing as well. To add insult to injury her butt was shaved too much which makes it look revealing and unsightly. She came out looking like an old lady (no offense to anyone). Oh and they cut her eyelashes but they didn't match!! I've uploaded the before and after photos. Basically she looks like a different dog! Again, I hate to write this but it had to be done. I felt like this was a waste of my time and I definitely won't be bringing my dog back here again. They should probably at least show that they care more about dogs and their customers rather than what goes into their register. read more

I made another appointment to give Der Pet Haus a chance to redeem themselves at the full price of a grooming appointment even though my last experience was HORRIBLE. I just received a call from the same male groomer saying that the other groomers feel "uncomfortable" grooming my dog because of my last review. I explained to him that i was giving them another oppurtunity and he said they are all the same and even though they offered to fix his hair the last time, i didnt bring my dog in. Well, fact of the matter is, i work a day job as well. Taking time off to bring my dog in is taking money away from my paycheck. I figured, i'll wait untill he NEEDS to be groomed again instead of bringing him in a few weeks later, then again in another month or two. If you've read my first review about this place, you'll know that the first time i brought my dog here, his hair was absolutely perfect (one of the female groomers worked on him). Then the second time, we had the male groomer work on him. My dogs hair was cut crooked all over and way too short. Anyhow.. here's a tip for you, fellow Yelpers: if you do choose to bring your 4-legged baby here, ASK FOR ONE OF THE FEMALE GROOMERS!!!! DO NOT LET THE GUY GROOMER GROOM YOUR DOGS. Your dogs hair will look like something you could cut at home yourself. I dont think this place cares about dogs or business. Oh well.. too bad for them. read more

I brought my Cairn Terrier Porter into Der Pet Haus as a new customer Friday, August 29, 2014 at approximate 10am. I was greeted by Taylor who would be grooming him. She asked me standard questions about the manner of grooming I requested and advised that he would be ready for pick up between 2-3pm. I advised that he had recently had fleas and his skin was sensitive due to recent treatment. She was confident in her ability to hand strip his coat and other standard grooming processes. I was not advised by Taylor or the employee who scheduled my appointment of the price for services. I received a call at 3:11pm from Taylor advising me that Porter was ready for pickup. When I arrived she greeted me before bringing my dog out to the lobby. She advised that services were $130.00 and requested payment before I could see my dog. I was blown away by the cost and felt completely taken advantage of. We have never been charged more than $60.00 by competitors for the same services. I can't believe that the price of services was never mentioned by the employee who scheduled the appointment or Taylor until this point. As she was processing the payment she mentioned that Porter did not like being groomed, that he bit at his lip causing bleeding and she did the 'best' she could on his face. After she brought him out, he was scared and anxious to leave. I had my two children and adult niece in the car waiting for me, so I didn't have a chance to really look him over until we got home. What I saw was astounding. He had patches of hair missing from his back. He was bleeding at the mouth with an exposed cut on his lower lip. Porter's skin is bright red from the grooming and sensitive to the touch. He completely recoils from us, which is uncharacteristic of him. As mentioned before, I am left feeling taken advantage of and completely disgusted. I would never recommend Der Pet Haus and definitely will never take my pets there again. AFTER 10 YEARS, people STILL ask me where I get my yorkie groomed! Doesn't get much better than that! I have been taking my Yorkie to be groomed by Keith for 10 years. The reason why I am writing this review is because I was recommending Keith recently, and I was looking up his info on the internet and saw Der Pet Haus reviews, and thought I'd glance at them. I figured it was about time I gave Keith a review here! He is GREAT, perfect? No, occasionally an uneven clip here or there. But 95% of the time I am satisfied to the tune of FIVE STARS. He puts up with a lot because my dog needs 2 people to hold on during toe clips. I live in North Kirkland and it takes me at least 30 minutes to get to Der Pet Haus, but I still go after all these years because overall it works out great...I've tried groomers closer to home for convenience, but we never go back...we just make the trek to go see Keith. I came here to get my dog's nails grinded. I have brought her to many places before and although she can be squirmy they managed to get her nails done beautifully. HERE however, I watched as multiple people held her down extremely roughly. I have never heard her cry that much before. My girl wanted to get out so badly that she slipped off the table and it took the staff a good minute to get her back up as she was dangling from her neck being choked. Not only did they treat my dog poorly, they were also rude. One lady came out complaining to another customer right in front of me that my dog had "injured" two staff when they were trying to hold her down. I have never experienced such unprofessional service before. When checking out I was informed that they had only grinded her back paws and had to trim her front ones instead. I noticed that on quite a few of the front nails, they had cut the quick and were bleeding. My dog spent the entire car ride home licking her front paws. I will not be going back here again and I do not recommend to anyone else. read more

Der Pet Haus is the BEST if you want your dog groomed EXACTLY to your specifications or the way your particular breed is supposed to be groomed. Many of the groomers have shown dogs for many years and so they are up-to-date on how to properly groom each breed...even the unique ones! My Samoyed, Maker, will never go anywhere else! His groomer, Keith, is also the owner and is very easy to work with. I always get a realistic time-frame for pick-up and my pup always comes out with his tag wagging. This is no Petco/Petsmart grooming shop...these folks take their craft seriously. Very lucky to have found Keith and Der Pet Haus for my very fluffy and hard to groom dog! read more

I had an appointment at 9am. To accommodate that time, i had to cut meetings short to bring my dog in. As the day progressed, I noticed the time of 2:30 and gave them a call. They said it would be another 30 minutes. When I arrived I asked why my dog was delayed in his grooming time. They stated that the dogs were groomed based on their appointment time. When I mentioned that my dog had a 9am appointment they stated that they had my appointment for 11:30am. I'm not buying it! Why would I bring my dog in at 9am, and not mention that I was early. Then proceed to tell me they made an error and thought it was 11:30am. I will NOT bring my dog here again. If they had been upfront with me and told me they were running late, I would have accepted that. read more

My various dogs have been going to Der Pet Haus since 2000. I always get great service and they take great care of my dogs, even the little yappy one who must drive them nuts! The dogs I see going out always look great. Some are a little shaky, but that's not different from going to the vet. FWIW, my poodles have always been super happy to walk in the door. I have been taking my dogs here for nearly 7 years and Keith and Robin have been amazing groomers. They always take care with the dogs and don't take the "easy way out" and just shave every dog. They are open to listening to owners opinions on how they line their dogs groomed. They are also accommodating with scheduling. One of the biggest things during the pandemic we missed because they are essential to us. I went back as soon as they reopened! I have both a dog and a cat, but have only taken my cat in. They are great with walk-in's to get her nails trimmed and even a quick sanitary buzz--at a reasonable price. Done within 10 min or so. There are times I don't have time to wait, so they've been gracious enough to let me drop off my cat and come back at the end of the day. The last couple summers, I've taken in my cat for the full blown groom - nail trim, wash, dry and cut. They buzz her down so she's not so hot during the summer. Not sure where to start. At my first visit to Der Pet Haus, recommended to me by my neighbors my dog came back not given the services I had ask for. Looking back I remember dropping her off and the receptionist who checked her in seemed rushed and a bit frustrated at the time. As it was my first visit I was looking for more of an explanation as what the services entailed, etc. but it was obvious the receptionist did not want to take the time to answer my questions. I posted feedback on Nextdoor following their community standards stating why I was not happy with the visit, ie. receptionist but also saying that with COVID restrictions going away one might expect places to be busy and employees feeling overwhelmed. I also stated that I would give Der Pet Haus another try. I did and was happy with Taylor who was recommended to me. So today when I called for another appointment and again asking questions about services & cost as I didn't think I needed the same full grooming which was $175.00 I was given vague answers and made to feel like I was bothering the person. He could not tell me what it would cost until he looked me up which he did and then proceeded to tell me that the salon did not want my business because apparently other customers showed him the feedback I had left on Nextdoor. I'm leaving a negative post here not for the groomers or even the older lady who was at the desk when I picked up my dog at the last appointment and had a very pleasant conversation with. As a professional salon I donot think it is appropriate for an employee to be gossiping about another customer. I was a hairdresser for 15 years so perhaps my questions seemed I don't know too intrusive but no reason to get defensive. read more

We took our now deceased 2 Samoyeds to Der Pet Haus over 6+ years. We were forced to stop using them following a job relocation to NY. During our 11+ years in NY I recommended Der Pet Haus to numerous people who moved to the Eastside/Seattle area. And I know several folks followed my recommendation and decided to take their dogs to Der Pet Haus for grooming. We just moved back to WA state and I walked into the shop today hoping to re-establish blow out & bathing for our 3 new Samoyeds. I know they are a lot of work, but was hoping we could get an appointment - even if it meant a 6 month wait. I broke my ankle a few months ago and have been unable to hold them long enough to stay on top of their brushing. The owner and/or manager came out and told me they aren't taking new customers - period! I thought we were old customers, trying to re-establish our dogs with our previous dog groomer. He didn't want to listen. This lack of consideration and poor customer service is stunning. And we will look for grooming services else where. read more

Absolute awesome! We have been seeing Keith for over 20 years and I always recommend him to friends looking for a groomer. We have golden retrievers who are momma boys for sure. Keith is always patient and kind dealing with my high anxiety boy's. It's so easy to make an appointment and make accommodations for older dogs so they can be in & out and not sitting there waiting all day. Keith always cuts them exactly according to my requests and they come home soft, smooth and clean. The 'defuration" treatment is especially amazing for the extra hairy ones. We have a 6 yr old Doberman that loves people and has never had any other trouble with groomers until this place. His grooming should be very simple. The biggest thing is that we have always insisted that his nails be sanded not cut because they are very opaque black so you can't see the quick. This has never been a problem till now. This was the second or third time we had taken Gunner here. However, it was the first time I had taken him in. I was concerned initially because when the groomer took his leash Gunner tried to back away and didn't want to go with him. ( in the past gunner has always been excited to see his groomer). I should have trusted my instinct to leave with him then. An hour later, when we picked him up, I was horrified! He darted right out to me keeping his head down and shaking. He was still pretty wet, and had something on his face that I couldn't make out because he was burying his face into me. I just wanted to get him out of there and calm him down so I took him to the truck while my husband paid. Once he jumped up in the back seat and faced me I could see why he was shaking. His nails were ALL bleeding and CUT way to short. He had what looked like stiptic stick all over his face. AND WORST OF ALL his eyes were swollen shut!!!! We went back into the shop to question what had happened and they were all very dismissive and acted like everything was normal! WTF! They provided no explanation for any of the issues, not even a sorry or sign of concern! We took him immediately to the vet who tested him for corneal abrasion. She said he had chemical burns to the eyes! She flushed his eyes out thoroughly and even remarked on how calm and good he was for her. He had to be on steroids and abx for a while. I am so disgusted. Dog owners understand, our dogs trust us. The thought of dropping our furry baby off somewhere where they mistreat and even hurt them makes me feel sick inside. Please do not put you beloved pet in the hands of people who care so little. read more

I took my puppy here based on a referral from a friend. She is a fluffy adorable Shih-poo. Like many puppies she is (was) a bit spunky. I had previously taken her to Petco and switched because they trimmed her face and left her with a little cut. I assumed this was because she was a wiggly puppy. Well after two visits to Der Pet Haus , it was like she was a different dog. She doesn't move around at all when groomed. Even when I groom her. At first I thought this was because she was finally used to grooming. One day I dropped her off and went back to my car. I heard loud yelping when I got to my car. I ran back in to see if it was my dog. I peered through the tinted window where the washing/drying takes place. I saw two people that did not look familiar or happy. Taylor came out from the grooming area and said no, it's not your dog. I realized it wasn't her yelp. Even if it wasn't my dog , someone's dog was not happy. I was a bit suspicious but I chalked it up to maybe a new dog. It wasn't until I started noticing scars after grooming that I became very concerned. There were a few on her head and one on her belly. I took her to the vet and he thought she had been attacked by another dog or perhaps hit her head on something at home. Then I connected the dots. I can't prove it but I always trust my gut. My gut tells me they are being abusive in order to make the dogs behave. They won't see my dog again read more
