This happened to my dog (see picture). His fur under his leg/near his paw was shaved off completely. He has been licking his wounds since yesterday after he is back from the groomer. This is actually the 2nd time happened to my dog, but the first time was not as bad. The groomer claimed they never use any razor and sharp object to groom my dog. I have taken my dogs there a couple of times. Full disclosure, I am used to some pretty amazing groomers having relocated from Southern California where there seems to be far more groomers who consider grooming not just a career but an art. With that said, I would have hoped that Keith and his staff were equally as engaged in grooming as an art considering all of the show dog pics on the wall. The first time I took my dogs there, I picked them up and was underwhelmed in the quality of the work, especially consdering the price of course. But, first time, I was totally willing to chalk that up to the staff getting used to my dogs and vice versa. The subsequent times I have taken my dogs there, the quality of the grooming has gotten worse. Horribly uneven lines, hair clumps poking out from all all over the dog that you would have to be blind to miss, as if their shears or clippers were dulling and the blades were skipping. Also, the dogs' coats didn't really look or feel clean, rather they look as if they were just rinsed off. What's more is that every time I go, the price is different. And they really aren't doing any more, if anything its getting worse which leads me to believe that they are rushing through my dogs and just not paying attention to detail and doing less work on them. I'm sure Keith and his staff are very talented with the right breed of dog and grooming, or perhaps their own dogs that they are taking into the rings, but I won't be taking my dogs there again only to have them scalped, gapped and uneven....only for me to bring them home and have to reschedule with another groomer to have them "corrected". If you were just looking for a shave down or a very basic cut with very little detail, the convenience of where it is can't be beat. However, I would also venture to guess you could get the same thing from Petsmart. read more

I have been taking my Brussels Griffon to Keith/Der Pet Haus for a year now. Our experience has always been outstanding. Not only does Dalek love to see Keith and jumps to his arms each and every time, but more importantly, Keith does an excellent job! Perfect hand stripping with dog show quality results. My little ewok looks like she just won best of show every time I pick her up. I wouldn't take her anywhere else. I highly recommend Keith at Der Pet Haus. read more

WARNING!!! My sister took her Golden Doodle to be groomed today for the first time. He still has his puppy coat, but a few areas of matting that needed to be groomed out. Six hours later, she went to pick him up and Der Pet Haus had completely shaved him (including whiskers and eyebrows) except for his ears and tail. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I took our new 9yr old rescue to Der Pet Haus for grooming on the recommendation of our vet. The place is very hard to find - it's on the side of a small strip mall in seemingly abandoned former box store parking lot. The interior isn't fancy. Just a small front room and working areas in the back. The people there seem to care about the dogs and are very knowledgeable. Since doggy was a rescue, she hadn't been well groomed in a while. Mats, etc. I told them I wanted a puppy cut and they offered a few suggestions to make her look her best. Dropped her off around 1pm and picked her up at 4pm. Doggy was happy and seem relieved to be rid of all that hair. And we could see her eyes. :) Cost of the cut for her, a Havanese, was about $60. A bit more than I was expecting but given it's only every few months, and they did such a good job, I'll gladly pay it. read more

I have taken my pug here 3 times and it's the only time she's been to a groomer where she isn't shaking in fear and goes willingly into the arms of her groomer. She always comes home looking beautiful, smelling perfect and they do a wonderful job with her teeth, wrinkly face and toenails. They always accommodate me with an appointment pretty much whenever I want and their prices are fantastic and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I've taken my dog here twice and each time he developed a serious skin infection which needed 10 days of medication to clear up. I didn't make the connection the first time, but the second time was no coincidence. My dog acted traumatized the second time - VERY reluctant to go in and near panic coming out. If you are a poodle owner especially a standard poodle owner and you need to find a new groomer because your long time favorites are not available or have changed significantly, it is a challenge. Keith was impressive! He came out to meet me which was a hassle due to all the parking lot construction, understood my description of how we like Mick's head to look, didn't seem phased that our farm poodle was a mess with a long growout and got him back to me in a beautiful cut, not all the way to the skin either which my former groomer said was the only way to go, in short order. I am so pleased and will call to schedule Micks next grooming with you! read more

Always have had a good experience here. Keith has groomed and clipped our little Maia many times now, I can always get in, and she's always ready on time. You have to hunt for this place, it's located in the Old K-Mart shopping center around the back of the strip mall building. However there is a major construction project going on right now, which will upgrade the shopping center into new state of the art shopping. Here's hoping that the rent and the prices don't go up cause I really like this place. It's about 25.00 for Shampoo and nail trim now. I always tip him about another 5.00. Highly recommend. Once the construction is over and the shopping center is fairly accessable again, I'll upgrade this to a 5 *. read more

Listen up folks - Der Pet Haus is a GREAT place for dogs or cats. My ancient old man Pekingese(13 years), my now ancient Saint Bernard (10 years) and my Himalayan cat (11 years) have all been treated well, handled with care and groomed to match their coat and breed type. Dealing with owners who are uneducated about animals, grooming and basic manners for not only themselves and their pets, I applaud all of them for the amazing work they produce. read more

The owner Keith has been grooming our Scottish Terrier beautifully for years. We tried a different groomer that was closer to home once and he came out traumatized as the groomer had clipped his facial sensory whisker. He was a different dog for several weeks until it grew back. We immediately returned to der pet haus and have continued to make the trip from Magnolia rather than risk another disaster. My dog hates the blowers and as other reviewers have mentioned, he shakes when he recognizes where we are. He is smart enough to recognize and remember where we are and to his terror of vacuums as well. Keith always tries to complete him first so I can pick him up within a few hours instead of having him wait there for longer. the extra care is very appreciated. And he is beautifully groomed with a traditional scottie cut every time. we have never used another groomer at the business so have no reviews for them, but if you have a terrier, Keith is highly recommended. read more

Terrible! DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE! I went in yesterday to have my Shiba's nails clipped. Yes shes a bit difficult, yes shes a whiner, and yes her nails were long - this is something a groomer should be able to deal with or find another job. I watched through the door while they tried to muzzle her for almost 5 min. Once they got it on and she was super freaked out, they used 3 people to hold her down while she squirmed and squealed, flipped her UPSIDE DOWN to restrain her, then allowed her to fall from the table. The jerk guy comes out and says "well that was fun", sarcastically with no smile and then states "It took three of us, so it'll be 20" I paid and left immediately. Never have I ever had someone treat my dog this way and would NEVER go back to this B.S. groomer. The worst part is she spend the evening licking at her forearms (front legs) since she was obviously bruised and injured from being squeezed so hard. Eff this place and the people who work there! read more

Things have gone WAY downhill at Der Pet Haus. The experience has gone from good to Ok, to bad to horrible. The service is rude and they clearly have no concept of how to treat a customer. They quality of the grooming was very poor - this past time each dog look bizarre and embarrassingly bad. I have never seen anything like it. They have not cut them this way in the past. To add to the problem, the last time my dogs came back scared and skiddish. I do not recommend this experience to other pet owners. read more

I took my cat Jasper for his first grooming and wasnt sure how he was going to do. Cat groomer Eva was welcoming and gentle with him the minute we walked in the door. She did a great job getting him all cleaned up, trimmed and buffed in the perfect way. An overall pleasant experience for Jasper (and I). We will be back! read more

I have tried several locations, and always return to Der Pet Haus. I am particular about haircut styles, and the employees always manages to execute exactly what I want. I personally like how Keith remembers my long winded details about the last grooming, which makes drop off easier. My dog returns happy, smelling great, and looking like a show dog. I recently brought the dog I was dog sitting, and the owners were equally pleased. They will be returning customers as well. I would highly recommend this place! read more

We have taken our dog here 3 times. First time we used Taylor, we thought she did a great job. We brought our dog back the next time and a young man groomed him and did a pretty good job, although we liked the "Taylor Cut" a little better. Today we had our 3rd experience and Taylor did a great job on him. We have a miniature Aussiedoodle and as most know, poodle mixes can be a bit challenging to groom....but he's turned out great! The two reasons they didn't get 5 stars was because it's a little more pricey than we are used to paying and the 2nd visit was just a "pretty good" cut. All in all, we're very pleased and would recommend this place for a try for your grooming needs. Taylor gets the thumbs up so far! read more

I have been taking my Irish Terriers to Keith since 2000 for hand stripping, and he is excellent. It's a 45 min drive from Wallingford, but he is great, so we've built up a long-standing relationship. However, the last two times this year, the work was done by Taylor. The first time the abrasions on my poor dog's stomach caused a $230 vet bill. I called to ask about it, but did not learn anything, but left my feedback. At dropoff this last time I made sure to review with Taylor about taking care of his belly, but he came out even worse, and also with a badly scraped eye. $320 vet and meds. Poor dog. This time I called Keith (owner) directly to let him know, and left him voicemail. The most disappointing thing is that in the intervening 3 weeks, he has never called me back. After 14 years of business, and at least 7 referrals that brought in business, I felt I deserved that. So my warning is, steer clear of Taylor. The grooming is expensive, and the vet bills and pain to the dog are too costly. read more

NEVER take your cat there. Please, for your cat's sake, don't. Short story: the shave looked terrible and patchy, they hacked off the whiskers on the left side of her face, and there was dried blood where they nicked one of her nipples. I specifically asked if they can groom cats, and was told that they could. I asked for a lion shave for my long-haired cat. I dropper her off, and it seemed like she was in fine hands, but my mom brought her back afterwards, and I was devastated. Her fur looked like it had been cut random lengths. That was the first thing I noticed. She looked completely pitiful. They had also cut all the fur on her paws/legs, which is not how a lion cut is done. But even WORSE, I saw that they cut off part of her whiskers!!! The ones that are normally about 4 inches were hacked off to an inch on one side of her face!!! ANYONE who owns a cat (and even a lot of people I know who don't own cats know this!) should know that whiskers help a cat maintain his/her balance. YES, I know they will not die without whiskers, but it's simply uncomfortable; especially after just being shaved and not being used to it. I could see that my cat was very uncomfortable at first. I called Der Pet Haus, and the person who groomed her said he had never heard that cats use their whiskers to balance. I could not believe that!! I even looked online to read further about the effects, and it's a pretty well-known fact! He asked his vet, and called back to say that my cat would be fine as long as she's not blind. Well of course, I know that; but my cat is uncomfortable, and she is my baby. He said sorry and that sometimes cats move around and things like that happen. I've had my cat lion-shaved twice before, and had not had those problems. Obviously the groomer at Der Pet Haus was in a rush and couldn't wait for her to stop moving. Later, I noticed there was some dried blood on one of her nipples, where they'd nicked it. Overall, I was VERY upset by this experience. My cat is my baby, as I said, and I simply don't want her to be so uncomfortable. Maybe this place is fine for dogs but DON'T TAKE YOUR CAT! read more

Leaving an online review is something I am rarely motivated to do...but after a negative experience at a different shop I returned to Der Per Haus with extra appreciation. After moving north earlier this year I was dismayed to have to find a new groomer, I assumed it would be easier than packing my girls back down to Bellevue every 6 weeks. But it was a waste of my money and I could tell my dogs were not happy campers. I realize nobody compares to Keith and his staff at Der Per Haus. It is sooooo worth my time to return to Bellevue- I have peace of mind knowing that my girls are treated well. They actually wag their little tails and jump up on Keith to greet him (and he doesn't even mind their lack of manners, he acts excited to see them too. As a dog mom this makes me smile). My dogs always look like they could walk into a show ring when I pick them up. I think grooming Standard Schnauzers is an art, obviously Keith knows his stuff and we always get tons of compliments on their hairdo's when we walk around our neighborhood. What says a lot is the fact that they aren't in a panic to leave. They may be fussy getting their haircuts and nails trimmed but I have seen firsthand how patient Keith is ( I know because I was the goofy lady waving through the window to my dog, LOL). My girls don't act traumatized like they have at other groomers! Their grooming sessions are worth every penny...probably more, knowing how stubborn my girls can be. After eight years of visiting Keith it is safe to say I will never let another grooming shop handle my girls. I made the mistake of venturing away once- never again. The quality and service didn't compare. I work in the customer service industry for an airline so I really value friendly service providers that give me my money's worth. read more

I have been coming to Der Pet Haus since 2006. With the exception of the time we moved away we have been good customers who have even referred a few friends. Sadly, we can no longer turn a blind eye to the harsh, often painful experience it must be for our pets and the mindless fees they charge. I watched my dog be brushed HARD. So much so that she was doing everything she could to get away from the brush to the point that she slipped off the table. I watched it happen while waiting for them to finish the job. Was told to come before 5 and did not leave until 5:30. Paid for a full groom when all they did was shave my dogs. Tried to tell me it was more work to shave them! Really? I don't think so. Anyway, the indifference to my pets, arrogant, entitled attitude they take with customers along with the ridiculous nickel and dime charging makes this decision easy. We are gone and will be letting my friends I referred know about it. Hopefully, they read these reviews, heed and make changes. Wish you all the best. read more

My Black Russian has been going to Der Pet Haus consistently every month for the past 1.5 years. Being an owner of a rare breed, it was important for me to find someone who knew how to groom a Black Russian properly- and that is Keith! More importantly, I know Thor is safe with Keith since he has been seeing him every month for the last 1.5 years without any issues. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Keith and the rest of the staff. Everyone has always been professional and accommodating to my busy work schedule, squeezing me in whenever they can. Thor always comes back to me looking sharp and beautiful. I constantly get praise from the staff on how well Thor did, and grooming a Black Russian is no easy task for dog or groomer! On numerous occasions I have had people stop me to ask where I go for grooming and to give me compliments on how gorgeous Thor looks! I highly recommend Der Pet Haus! read more

We just had our pet groomed there 2 days ago. The haircut was great but something traumatized him while he was there because he has not been the same since. He flinches and wimpers whenever there are anyone comes close and has been moping around the house looking sad and scared. We took him to the vet and they found no injuries, no illnesses and has indicated it is something behavioral - probably something traumatized him. He has been getting groomed at Petsmart and other locations for years and never have we experienced this before. His entire personality has changed since he returned, he flinches, scared and we are convinced something happened while he was on the grooming table or in their care. We will NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE as we are sure he either fell, was abused or had something severely traumatized him. We only hope our love and care will return him back to normal. read more

They are terrible. I picked up my dog after grooming and when I got to the car I noticed that she was bleeding so bad from her paws that there were little pools of blood on my car seats. The bleeding was due to their carelessness while cutting her toenails. It was not just one toenail but it was several toenails that where cut too short. I also noticed that one toenail was completely blackened. I have noticed that every time we go there my dog starts shaking but I have not though much about it until today. After noticing this I called the groomer and told her about the bleeding. Instead of apologizing she told me to just bring my dog back even though I had already left. When I asked for an apology, the groomer simply said that it was common for the dogs to bleed like that. The groomer only forced out an insincere apology. They do not seem to care about the dogs and they seem to only be doing things for their job. I was so disappointed and I will never go again. I do not recommend this place to anybody. read more
