Well, apparently they now serve beer flights! Yay! My family and I had dinner there this weekend, and the food was amazing. I had the smashburger, husband and son had the chicken sandwiches, and my other son had the Gabagool pizza. All of them were flavorful and a thousand times tastier than some of the other offerings in Clintonville Restaurants (I'm looking at you, Rusty Bucket and Old Bag of Nails). Very nice brewery for some local brews. Has a nice little patio out front and super cool inside. The service on the other hand was not the nicest. They did not come to check in on us for refills. But the spicy marg was good, had a lot of flavor n spice! The food was also Decent bar food. We got chips and quest, the chips were not your typical tortilla chips either. My family decided to go there last weekend while at OSU. Sat down and was told we had to order from our phones. We ordered drinks and food and the order did not go through as the system said they did not have any more wings nor loaded fries. We asked the waitress and she said the wings fell on the floor and they do not have any more and we had to reorder. We tried again by ordering substitute items and again it failed, this time for the customized burger which was just a plain cheeseburger. After 20-25 minutes of no drink nor food we left. You would never think this place looks like this from the outside. It's next door to the post office. Nice interior. Brews were very good along with the service. I ended up buying one of he glasses that had unique artwork on it. Big TVs for watching he game. I also appreciated the music which was nice and loud. Chill atmosphere. Great service. We had cheese curds with chipotle maple dip which was amazingly good. We made our own pizza with sausage, bacon,red onion and chili honey they mistakenly added basil which turned out to be a great addition! We shared a flight and really liked 3 of the 4 beers. We stopped for lunch while in town, and the chicken sandwich was fantastic. I don't think it's always on the menu, unfortunately, but it definitely should be. Pretty sure it was just a special for their anniversary celebration, but we loved it. It was spicy and crunchy and messy in the best possible way. They're eager to give recommendations and the west coast IPA I had was excellent. Derive also offers a modest menu of bar fare, sandwiches and pizza. I had the margarita pizza and it was pretty good - it was drizzled with a sweet balsamic sauce and the crust was crunchy and delicious. Stumbled upon this place while out and about in Clintonville. We needed a dog friendly shaded patio and lucked out! They were celebrating their 1 year "birthday", so the place was pretty lively. They have flights! I got their curated birthday flight, and then we ordered some regular points. The beers were solid. I really liked their pineapple IPA and blue razz sour. We ordered the vegetable pizza with dough crust (cauliflower crust is also available). It was really good with cheese, red sauce, mushrooms, red onion, olives, and tomato. Found this place using the Ale Trail book. Great find. Love the atmosphere. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Seating is spaced out. Our waitress Sam was awesome. She is knowledgeable about the menu of food, drink and beer options. Her recommendation for me was right on. Derive carries their own beers plus other breweries. They have wines and cocktails too. The food was fine. Location was tricky to find for us. But it's in the shopping center where Luckys grocery store is located, on North side of shopping strip in the back corner. We went on a Monday and had such poor service. It took over an hour to get our food, and it was wrong. Only got served one drink and for second round we got a taster but they never came back. 4 people working behind the bar, 1 was consistently on the floor, the other 3 occasionally checking on their tables. Good food, good beer. Staff was pretty awesome - great service by the way. We got checked in with every 10 minutes or so. We had the French onion dip which apparently saved my wife's life. But dat pizza tho. We got the one with pepperoni and mushrooms - really powerful spice packet punch of umami pizza sauce and bubbly cheese and herbs. Reputation lived up to. Guest drafts were pretty darn good and they have some cocktails that are relatively unique. It seems to be a Columbus thing to pair craft cocktails with craft beer. Can't complain. read more

Unique would be the best way to describe this particular restaurant / hang out joint. When you walk in you definitely don't expect to see a huge tree in the middle of the room wrapped in chains and lock - super creative. The staff was super friendly when we walked in but the bartender seemed to be super passive instead of engaged, which you would expect when sitting at the bar. The drinks were really good and the beer selections was top notch. They have a very creative craft drink selection and we tried quite a few of them off their menu. The star of the show was definitely their take on poutine. The fries were super crispy, plenty of cheese, peppers, and the brown gravy was super delicious. The pizza was a bit odd as it had cream cheese instead of regular cheese, but it was very flavorful. I would had liked the crust to be a bit more done since it was almost raw in some spots but the flavor made up for it. The burger was cooked really well, super soft buns, and you can get a burger and a beer for $10! This is definitely a chill zone so come on out here if you are looking to hang out with some great food! read more
