SUPER yummy pizza! It's like NYC style pizza that's seriously super delicious. I recommend sharing a pizza (we didn't know how big it was and accidentally ordered 2) between a couple people. It's in a cute spot with wine tasting and nice lights. You order at the food truck and give them your name then when it's ready they yell ur name. It's pretty quick! I've been to Sammataro a few times now, mostly for takeaway. The pizza is tasty, and although it's roughly $30 per pie, they're pretty sizeable. I'm knocking off a star because of the $10 salad we added to our order more recently. It was literally a plate of chopped up Romain lettuce, completely plain, with a little cup of dressing on the side and some Parmesan cheese to sprinkle on top. Charging $10 for that is unreasonable. We ordered it thinking it would be a standard house salad. I'll be back for pizza, but I will be thinking twice before trying anything else. read more

Legit pizza in downtown Austin. They have a trailer and separate structure that has limited seating and bathroom inside. There is also plentiful outdoor seating available. The parking situation was confusing a bit. Last time, we parked nearby and walked over. Staff were friendly and cool. One of my husband's main food groups is pizza and he absolutely loves this place and I concur! As a person who doesn't like pepperoni I would eat pepperoni on their pizza anytime as they were perfectly crisp and delicious We love their pizza but it's a bit costly and the location is kind of far from our house so we only stop by when we're in the area. All in all, highly recommended if you haven't checked them out yet! read more

Had to try out the austin HYPE pizza and it did not disappoint. I loved the indoor seating area, its very austin vibey. The pizza itself looks and tastes amazing but i didnt get that WOW factor. I feel like the best way to tell if a pizza is unique is by the quality of the cheese, flour(dough), and cooking oven. Everything tasted fresh but it was just like any other pizza i've had. The pizza was $34 which is on the higher end. Will I be back? Yes. Do i think its lifechanging? No. I have heard they change up their menus and have unique pizzas in the summer so i definitely want to come back and give that a try! read more

Here I go again with my East Coast pizza snobbery...lol. This time it's a good thing. Though not actual New York pizza they do a stellar job with their version of it. Pies are sliced NY-style. The crust is thin without being soggy. Not tough or chewy. Fresh ingredients make the flavors elevated when combined together. The pepperoni, cheese, and basil pie is our go-to. I feel lucky to have them in our hood. read more

This place is near my apartment, and I was excited to try it at first--especially since I'm from NYC and they really lean into that being their origin. Unfortunately, the pizza didn't live up to the hype. It was oily, overpriced, and dare I say...floppy. That said, I do like the location of the truck--the nearby wine shop and the string lights overhead make it a cozy, inviting spot. Great atmosphere, but I'd skip the pizza. read more

Got to stop here when visiting Austin. Picked it because Portnoy rated it well and I was not disappointed. Chewier bread like crust of a Neapolitan with a great sauce. I just got classic today to try the basic but the others sounded amazing too! I didn't notice pepperoni on the menu but that is ok! Food came out quick and friendly service. This is I guess a food truck in a courtyard.... Seems like.... I wish the other buildings were other restaurants/bars. Note: this is BYOB unfortunately so bring your own! read more

When I went there the first time, I was impressed. But hindsight being etc.... Second time gave me more perspective. Is it good? Yes. Is it worth the prices they are asking? No. And the prices they are charging for the amount of things they give you gives me pause. I don't care who gave this place a review, it ain't worth that much in my opinion. Trust your instincts and taste buds. Good to try at least once. But only after you've been paid or won on a scratcher. read more

Awful customer service. I had trouble with a pizza that was smashed while delivering through Uber Eats (the service they use to deliver) . In order for Uber Eats to handle the issue, they requested the order number from Sammataro. I called the phone number on their website to get my order number with no success. After numerous attempts a guy finally answered with just "hello?" as if it was a cell number not a business. (unprofessional) - I responded politely explaining that I just needed my order number to resolve my issue with Uber Eats and he literally hung up on me.. and then ignored my phone calls for the rest of the night.. I was never able to get a resolution. I was a regular but with their horrible service I won't be back. Super disappointing. read more

What a cool location. It's warm and welcoming. How do they fit this wood fire over into the pod? There's a lot of outdoor seating. And some indoor as well. Each pizza is made with high quality ingredients. I got a half and half pizza of pepperoni on one side. And a honey spicy sausage on the other. It was delicious! This place is definitely a vibe. Brings that Austin pod culture to life. And shows what you can produce in a quant space. read more

My buddy tried to convince me that Sammataro is great and worth the price. I tried it once and hard disagreed. We tried it again last night, ordering 2 pies for pickup. The pickup time changed drastically so instead of waiting 15 minutes we waited 45 minutes. And it was raining out, so that wasn't great. But whatever, picked up the pies and gave it a fair shot. I thought it was... fine. Not bad pizza, but nothing special to me. I think there's so many other good pizza places in town, I'd rather go somewhere else that makes me happier. But if Sammataro is your favorite, I ain't judging... enjoy! read more

Great pizza for a good price!! Pizza was so good thin and crispy and also huge. Service was fast you order from a food truck took about 15-20 mins but while you wait there's a wine house and a tattoo shop. Very nice area had live music as well. read more

When a vibe meets pizza, you have SAMMATARO. The menu is simple, and the pies hit that spot, making you remember the drunken, err, good times in NYC. Pros: - Brick oven char! - Large pies - Friendly staff - NYC-styled - Austin outdoor vibes - Pet friendly Side Notes: - Brick + mortar closed - Parking around the area - Closed M + T - Made to order (can take time) What We Got: - Full custom pie Summary SAMMATARO is re-opened at the OG location they once started from, which, IMHO, was the better spot. You have the outdoor vibes, and as Austin starts to cool off, it is a perfect spot to take your friends or date on a creative expression of the city. Hours: Check the hours; they are closed on M + T and open during certain hours. I live up north, so when they first opened, I made the mistake of coming on a Monday and had to get subpar pizza elsewhere. Time: They have a full-blown brick oven attached to the shop, giving it a unique char flavor I haven't had in any other pizza in town. It's made to order, so if you don't order in advance, you'll have to wait as they make it fresh. Parking: It's easy to find parking around the area, but look for signs as it's next to a nice neighborhood, so it's better to walk than get a ticket! They also have convenient parking right next to the food truck area, but sometimes the demand is high, so parking might need to be street side. I haven't had an issue yet parking right up front! Taste: We have a lot of pizza places in Austin, but this one is definitely a fave of mine. I'm a fan of the thin crust, with a char that isn't burnt and full of flavor when you bite into it. I love folding my slices vertically in half and chowing down on them in a few bites as if you were in NYC, walking around the city at night. Go check it out. This place deserves all the recognition for its New York style pizza. It really lives up to the hype. We went on a hot day during happy hour and there weren't many people there, so our pizza didn't take long at all. The vodka pie was a perfect twist on a classic pizza- it had a little more spice and kick to it. This is a food truck, so the seating is almost completely outdoors. They have a small area inside but the AC isn't great, so prepare to be a little warm if you're going in the summer months. read more

Sammataro is an absolute gem. Admittedly, I did not expect to find this caliber of pizza in Austin, TX. It's picture perfect. The service was very friendly and quite frankly one of the highlights. They made me feel like I was a regular there. For a group of 3 they recommended 2 pizzas (more pizza is always better in life), which is what we did. Tried the regular cheese and the vodka Cheese Review - my favorite of the two, it's really well executed. The parm adds great funk. Basil gives it some lift. Really nice crust with minimal flop. Arguably the best NY-style pizza in Austin and I can see why! Cacio e pepe arancini (4.5/5) - great start to the meal! I loved the crispy peppery arancini. It is pretty peppery though for those that aren't a fan! My only recos to have made this better is if it came out hotter and was a little creamier inside Caesar salad (3/5) - this was decent but not great, we weren't jumping to devour it and have had better Caesar salads Vodka pie (5/5) - The vodka pie did not disappoint! Sauce was flavorful, crust was the right amount of flimsy yet still crunchy. A little kick would have made this pizza even better for me but the Calabrian chili sauce we ordered on the side was perfect with it! Side sauces are overpriced at $4. While the pizza itself seems pricey at $30 without toppings, it's actually quite large - we shared 8 slices amongst a group of 4 girls Orange creme cannoli (5/5) - The cannoli was the perfect end to our meal! I loved the subtle orange flavor and that it wasn't overly sweet. Would order again Service was great, our waitress was so friendly and checked in on us often! Ambiance was lively with red mood lighting at night. However, I do NOT recommend for a date night (or even a girls night) because it's way too loud! I was pretty much yelling the whole time trying to have a conversation over the loud music and with others trying to do the same. Pizza is decently good texture and dough wise but really lacks any special flavors. I ordered two large cheese pizzas and the dough and the sauce just didn't have any flavor. Salt seemed to be missing. I don't need a lot of salt but at least a little. There is better pizza here in Austin. This is not a place I'll be returning to. read more

Holy Toledo! This place has been on my list for too long. We ordered their pepperoni Pizza and left the food truck park with happy bellies. They're a little pricey, but definitely worth it. I daresay that they have the best (at least top 3) pizza in Austin. The char on the crust was spot on. The pizza wasn't too flimsy. Goldilocks would say "it's just right"! Legit my favorite NY Style pizza in town! Ok. So you're gonna spend a pretty penny on your pizza, but it will be large, have the freshest toppings and have you craving another one of their pizzas very soon. Not to mention, the owner Isaac is super sweet and very talented and this spot is legit competition to some other local favorite pizza joints! I like to get the classic pie and add pepperoni and/or mushroom to it. Every pizza comes with fresh basil on top! And every now and then he will make a special - like a bolognese! Oh and Sundays are for grandma style pizzas (square)! The spot is a food truck and Arbor Food Park is BYOB so I recommend bringing your favorite bottle of vino and pairing it with the best pizza you'll eat! read more

This place actually has really good pizza. I read the reviews with some level of skepticism, since I live in Houston and haven't found a good pie there yet. But this place actually came through. The pizza was super fresh and thin crust and it was really good. It was in a nice and cute food truck area with plenty of seating. The only thing I would complain about is that it was slightly burnt at the bottom. The service was super fast and we thought we would have to wait a long time but the line moved super fast. Food: 4/5 Sammataro has fantastic Neapolitan style pizza that you'll be hardpressed to find done better in Austin. However, $33.00 for a pizza was REALLY steep for their least expensive pizza with no options for smaller portions. Service: 5/5 Super friendly staff who recommended we try their homemade spicy olive oil topping and served us up in less than 10 minutes despite being very busy. Environment: 4/5 The Arbor food park is awesome if you can find parking and an open seat. read more

Patrizi's operates from a food truck but has its own well-maintained, shaded eating area that is sooo cute and welcoming. Many are willing to queue for freshly-made scratch cooking of this quality, so lines are common. However, the owner/chef takes great pride in customer service so will regularly be out talking to the people in line, asking if they had any questions, and just chatting. Trust me, once you try Patrizi's, it will be hard to feel the same about your other Italian food sources (unless it's your own or your Mom's). I highly recommend ordering family style for the table but make sure your whole party is on board with splitting the check evenly because the restaurant does not break up the check according to diners only split evenly, I believe up to four ways. Example: Our check was $822 (included gratuities) for seven people and we were only able to split evenly four ways. Roughly $118 each. It is what it is but I didn't even get a main course. Just a glass of wine, a half of a piece of bruschetta, some of the Caesar salad and a small portion of the gnocchi (all shared) I'm glad I got to experience Red Ash, but now that I've checked that off my list, I'm good.

After being seated all the way at the very corner of the restaurant near the entrance, we didn't receive water for 15 minutes. In fact, we had to ask for water, as well as silverware, from a person who was cleaning a table- not a waiter. We didn't order until about 30 minutes after being seated. We noticed that others around us who were dressed nicer for the occasion were receiving service but we were not (jeans and a nice top as opposed to a dressy outfit). This is less of an accusation and more of an observation. It took another waiter noticing that we had not been served to come over and take our order, and that was 5 minutes after we had to flag down a busser to ask for water. The flip side of that whole first part is that the food was pretty good. We got complimentary table bread (after we asked for it since it never came before our main meal) that was soft and went well with the olive oil it came with. For our entrees we got the shrimp scampi and chicken parm. The shrimp scampi was fantastic and light with creamy and bold flavors in-between. The chicken parm was maybe the largest chicken cutlet we've seen given out at a restaurant. Not only was the cutlet massive but it was delicious as well with a nice, light breading and cheese on top. The spaghetti alongside it was a nice touch but this was a true chicken parm entree as it should be. We were offered a complimentary dessert as an apology for the miscues before we ate but turned it down (still good of them to offer). Leaving was easy as the valet was very attentive and quick to get our car. We wish we could say our time at Juliet's was perfect because the setting and food are very nice and a fun change of pace from the surrounding blocks. However, it's difficult to overlook the mistakes made from the jump. We noticed that another table next to us was also experiencing bad service and looked unhappy enough to leave in the middle of their meal/ We're always open to having good food again so hopefully the next time we're here things are different. Just an unfortunate bittersweet taste to what otherwise would have been a fantastic meal.

That's the reason my rating wasn't 5 Star. Because the restaurant was pretty empty on this Saturday afternoon, I feel the Chef shouldn't have sent out fries that weren't piping hot. The Meatball Sandwich however was marvelous. Freshly made, tasty meatballs with sauce and cheese on their focaccia bread was a real treat. I took half home and ate the rest for dinner.
