I've known about this place for the last couple years, but got the opportunity to go there and get one of their breakfast sandwiches. What an amazing experience! The food was top-notch. I had the Sonora with the schmear as they suggested on a cheddar bagel. It was the best breakfast sandwich I've had in a long, long time. Ambiance was fun, cozy, and felt like a very local place. Went to the one off Moran right off of Fourth by the Wells overpass. Highly, highly, highly recommend. Top-notch service, great customer service, food is out of this world. That fried chorizo patty was just crunchy and incredible. Loved the hash browns. Actually had to indulge and get a little pastry while I was there because they just looked that amazing. I ordered a coffee and everything bagel with cream cheese. It took like 10 minutes for me to get a bagel !? The other guy gets his stuff and leaves and I'm standing there wondering with 4 employees and one customer (me) am I still waiting for my order? When I ask about my order the very Rude and immature cashier gives me an attitude like I'm bothering her. Bagels, bagel sandwiches, and schmears are scrumptious. After 5 visits I finally remembered to take pictures before digging in! The Desert Sunrise bagel sandwich and the jalapeño cheddar bagel with garden garlic schmear are my personal favorites. Today however I ordered a cheddar bagel with garden garlic cream cheese, which was also really good. The inside of the shop is small, so although there are tables and chairs it is more comfortable to take your order to go or eat on the patio outside. I ordered the egg and cheese bagel with a hashbrown and the chive and onion cream cheese on a cheddar cheese bagel. I unfortunately didn't realize it came with American cheese, which I don't like so I didn't love the taste of the bagel. I did like that they put a nice thin layer of cream cheese versus a whole bunch. The bagel itself was really good and soft on the inside. I enjoyed the hashbrown patty with the bagel. They ran out to the jalapeno cheddar bagels and the jalapeno cream cheese which I really wanted, because the bagel definitely needed some spice to it. The bagels took about 10 minutes to come out, which wasn't too bad and there's 3 tables each with about 6 stools for sitting. TLDR: I would give this place 6 stars if I could! Very friendly staff. Small cafe. I wouldn't eat here. Even though there are a few high tables and chairs, everything is super packed. The bagels are meant to be taken to-go. Ahh but the bagels... soft and chewy on the inside. Slightly hard on the outside, but only as a contrast in texture. I love the chewiness, I can tell they're steamed right. Even the cream cheese is nice and soft. I could see someone in the back, scooping the cheese into small containers. As a native New Yorker, I'm always looking for a NY type bagel. The closest I came was Rounds (then they closed their retail store during the Pandemic), next came Einsteins (and they closed .. don't know why). So I came across Desert Sun Bagel. When I got there I realized that I had been here some time ago for a breakfast sandwich .. which I recall was really good. Needed some bagels for Thanksgiving breakfast tradition, so I went here to pick up a dozen bagels. Ordered some everything, some plain and just two cinnamon raisen. I should have been watching, because when I got home the two cinnamon raisen bagels were dense and small and looked they didn't rise during the cooking process. It's just too far back to return them The everything and plain were ok .. sorry they just don't compare to a NY bagel, but far superior to a supermarket bagel. (Loved the caramel bourbon Torani syrup and the heavy cream available for the coffee) You order at the counter, pay, and give them your name to call when your order is ready. We got here just before the rush at 11am. Suddenly, the line queued up to the door. There are a few inside tables, but lots of outdoor seating. It was nice finding this good breakfast place in an old, troubled neighborhood. Walking over from the Ramada to get breakfast was easy. So I was craving a bagel. My husband doesn't typically like bagels much. He indulged me and was pleasantly surprised! I LOVE bagels. I love that they are chewy and toasty and sometimes nothing else will do. So today we decided to try Desert Sun. This is a cute little shop, hidden away under the bridge and everyone was so nice and professional. I had the Twilight (roast beef, cheddar and a fried egg) on a tomato pesto cheddar bagel that absolutely hit the spot! That bagel was everything I was looking for, chewy, toasty, savory goodness. My husband had a Tumbleweed(ham, grilled peppers and onion, cheddar and a fried egg) on a jalapeño cheddar bagel and he really liked it. He said the bagel itself was top notch. If you want one the best bagels in town, come here to Desert sun! Locally owned shop that sells the best bagels! I ordered a desert sunrise bagel sandwich on an Asiago bagel. It has egg, bacon and cheese, that's absolutely delicious with a perfectly toasted bagel. Also ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese for my son and he loved it! They make their cream cheese in house and it's amazing! They offered different flavor but their plan cream cheese is rich in flavor and whipped like texture making it very easy to spread. Also, they have the best cold brew in town! They serve blind dog coffee (locally owned) and their cold brew is perfectly bold in flavor and you can have which ever dairy or non dairy option for free! The staff is fast and attentive! At first they told me they were out of cold brew and one the staff members surprised me and told me that they were able to get one cup worth and wanted me to have it, that was very sweet of them. best bagel in town by far. the new location on s virginia has much more room and seating than the one on 6th street, although the bagels are just as good at either spot. neither location is a place where i would rave about the atmosphere, but the food is worth it. i like that you can add your own creamers and other toppings to your coffee, and i'm always a fan of blind dog coffee, which they serve at both locations. every day i miss the tomato pesto cheddar bagel and wish they would bring it back into rotation! don't skip this local gem. read more

Gayle and I had guest coming several days ago, and they love bagels. It just happened that we were going up to a Reno Aces game the day, with the opening pitch at 1:05 PM. As Desert Sun was open until 2 and a short drive from the stadium, Gayle and I stopped in. There were a lot of folks (with bicycles) enjoying the outside. Inside was fairly empty, so ordering our half dozen bagels was easy peasy service-wise. I would have preferred a little variety, but Gayle wanted to play it safe by ordering plain. We'll fix that the next time. My "true" bagel experience is fairly limited here in Northern Nevada, of which I don't count Schat's or LA Bakery. However, compared to Tahoe Bagel, I really enjoyed the soft chewiness of Desert Sun and the overall toasted goodness. But as far as sandwiches go, I think the Tahoe Bagel version stands up a little more. I'm sure that other Bagel "purists" would have more to say, but call me happy and satisfied. I'll just need to run Desert Bagel a little more through the paces before I award my so called "coveted" 5 Star. read more

I can confidently say no one does it like DSB in all of Northern Nevada. I live in Dayton and my friend and I drive over an hour to get these bagels when we crave them (which is often) just because of how good they are. I'm a bit conflicted about Desert Sun Bagel. I was super excited to try it out as we were on our way to a Saturday morning High School baseball game. It's a small joint in an interesting location. I felt like we were in a hip San Francisco neighborhood. No seating inside to speak of except for a couple of seats to wait for your order. There is patio seating outside which is nice on a beautiful day. I'm very picky about my bagels as I'm from the east coast and it's hard to find a real good bagel on the west coast. When I moved to the Bay Area, Noah's became our go to, and I haven't found a place in Reno in my 19 years here to match that or the real bagels from the east. Pricing seemed unreasonable. We ordered 5 bagels with cream cheese and a dozen to go for another day along with a mocha. We only got 4 bagels with cream cheese. The tab? $52. Idk but that seemed excessive so I looked at the bagel order tag they used to make our order and they rang us up for 6 bagels with cream cheese. So we were shorted and overcharged. My calculation says we lost about $10 in that deal. Take away the $6 mocha and additional bagel we didn't order and I guess the pricing is about right. It just stung and the value didn't match expectations. The Mocha was flat and more like cocoa. We had to spread the cream cheese ourselves vs it being done for us; which is what I expected they would do. The bagels were tough to the bite. Not a wow experience. Bagels bought by the dozen should be put in a heavy brown bag with a separate plastic bag to keep those not eaten right away fresh vs a bakery box. Just my opinion and part of my good memories of real bagel shops. The service was friendly. I may give it another try and look at everything from a different perspective. I randomly picked a dozen and a half. And got a little bit of everything. Including the everything bagels, which she boxed separately, not to infused the other flavors. Each bagel was plenty big in size. Soft centers and a thin chewy crust. They toasted up perfectly, and the warmth brought out the flavors even more. How can you go wrong with three cheese or Asiago bagel with a shmearing of soft tangy cream cheese. A cheese lover's idea of perfect breakfast. And for the spicy morning person- the jalapeños and cheese bagel. Everyone enjoyed them. And they kept nicely for three days. There's plenty of street parking right out front.
