I needed to bring in my car for a number of $ervices (brakes, shocks, fluids) as it hit 60,000 miles. I got four service quotes, one from the dealership and three from independent shops. This shop wasn't the cheapest or most expen$ive, but they had the BEST reviews. I liked that they specialize in Toyota and Lexus repair. Communication was prompt and professional from start to finish. The only con for me would be the hours of operation, Monday through Friday from 8AM-5PM. Good service on a timing belt, water-pump, tensioner and bracket. Dropped off at 8am and done by 4pm. A bit pricier than I'm used to but they know their Toy/Lexus and my GX470 and 5 Gen 4Runner should be regulars - although they said they couldn't work on my 1996 - 80 series Diesel 1HZ because they can't get parts. I brought my 3rd gen 4Runner here for a 4WD alignment to gain more castor in the front as I had recently added a steel bumper and winch so I was experiencing some rubbing. Justin got me in the next day after I called as I expressed I was from out of town and on a tight timeframe. He asked me to drop off early as it may take the day to get it done. I asked him to adjust the upper control arms if necessary and adjust the front coilovers. long story short I got my vehicle back and the tires still rubbed, it now pulled to the right and shook at higher speeds on the hwy. Justin told me he could not give me an alignment spec sheet because "the machine was broken.". Turns out after reviewing my gps telematics my truck wasn't pulled in the garage until after 11am and wasn't in there more than an 1.25hrs, w one move to another bay. I was charged over 450.00 to get my vehicle back in worse shape than before. I asked him to email me a spec sheet and got some file that was unable to be opened. He said my cams were seized and my lca bushings were shot... but in this case a complete alignment wouldn't be able to be performed yet he charged me for it, and didn't offer to fix the issues he stated. he also blamed my use of aftermarket lug nuts which I've never had issues being a problem before, nor had the dealership or my local 4WD shop stated any issues. When I disputed w my cc he sent back a photo of a computer screen showing an alignment spec sheet with no vin or make/model details which could have been any vehicle. I was completely ripped off as he knew I was leaving town the next day and wasn't in a rush to get the alignment done. Their merchant services company refused to return my money stating they had supplied evidence of services rendered when in actuality I did not get what I paid for, in fact my vehicle was in worse condition when I received it back from them. I highly recommend steering clear of this place as it seems if they see an opportunity to hose someone, especially from out of town, they'll do it. I later decided to replace my cams w aftermarket greaseable bolts and found the cams were NOT seized, I had just undercoated over them is all. My truck to date only has 75k miles for a 97 and has always lived in a dry climate and been garaged with no rust on the frame. This place is a joke. BEWARE! read more

If I could give them 10 stars I would! I first learned about DTS from a few friends who had been there and love it. I had just bought a '04 GX470 (Land Cruiser Prado outside the US) and needed it looked over and then a lift installed. I chose the shop to do the work after meeting Justin and having him talk through everything they would do. When I got it back it was flawless! Excellent work, super clean and was a customer for life. It has always been back for work that I cannot do myself. NOW ... I just bought a '97 Land Cruiser with 270k miles. I needed Justin to take a look at it before I paid a $1 to make sure it was worth the effort. He got me in in the next day, they walked me through every potential issue with a flashlight and fine-toothed comb to build the list of potential issues. With that knowledge I went back to the seller and got a great and fair price on the truck. DTS will be doing a LOT of work on this truck as time goes on and I trust them implicitly to do all the work. Taking it to Greulich's (where the PO had all work done) would never be an option, they are butchers and shouldn't touch this piece of art. You have to ask yourself about what and how you want your work done. Quick/easy/cheap with no knowledge or right-time/right-effort/right-price. DTS is more affordable than the dealership and more expensive than the do-all shops but the specialty is what you want, right?! I have nothing bad to say at all about Justin, he has spent a lot of time with me answering questions, and I ask a LOT to understand my trucks. I hope this helps someone... A last year (8/24/21) I had Justin install a CBI front bumper on my 2015 Lexus GX at $1924.80 for labor. He did a great job from all exterior appearances but failed to complete a high quality inspection after the install. I found out how bad of a job he did when the AC went out on a weekend trip. I consider AC an emergency item so I took it to Lexus. They discovered that the AC line was rubbing on the CBI bumper that Justin installed. I paid Lexus to check the rest of the bumper install and correct any issues. They found a few more small issues but they corrected them for me so I wouldn't have any further issues with the bumper install. I called Justin the next business day to discuss the install issue and he said he doesn't warranty the install. I showed him the AC line that was cut bc of the install and he admitted that the install was the cause of the AC line failure but wouldn't reimburse ANY part of the Lexus repair bc he didn't get a chance to look at it first. Again, this part failed on a day when he wasn't open so him looking at it wasn't an option. Overall, I'm fairly unimpressed with the integrity of Justin. I spent nearly $2000 to have him install a brand new bumper (also spent $2365.24 in 2/8/21 on a suspension lift) and he still can't stand behind his work. I cannot recommend this shop based on the lack of integrity Justin has shown me with the thousands of dollars I've spent at his shop. If I have a problem in the future with his installations I will need to go somewhere else. At this point I just hope this review will be enough information to help someone with their next Land Cruiser/GX installation. read more

After an incredibly frustrating (and expensive) experience at a seemingly-reputable valley shop (whose name I'll kindly & respectfully omit from this review), I was given the information for Desert Toy Shop from a trusted friend (who takes her Toyota there almost exclusively). ...I'm so grateful for that recommendation - because I'm thoroughly convinced my vehicle wouldn't and couldn't receive the level (and detail!) of service DTS provides ANYWHERE else. They're not only the most knowledgeable professionals I've had the opportunity to work with - they don't cloud you with needless repairs & sub-worthy replacement parts. They might be a small bit higher on the "pricier" side of repairs - but the fact that they utilize Toyota-certified-parts exclusively (instead of "factory refurbished parts" designed to only cover you so many miles), installed by some of the most competent individuals in the trade - I'll gladly pay more to avoid the headache of shoddy repairs completed with shoddy parts by less-than-competent mechanics. First time I went in Tom did rear brakes on my truck, fast and efficient service. Went back in recently for a leak in the A/C system which Mike was able to trace and fix. My 1999 Landcruiser needed to have the Starter replaced which is approximatly $850. I dropped it off at 9:00 am and by 11:00 am I received a call from Mike, stating that he suggested replacing the battery first as it was only drawing 500 watts. My battery is only one year old. Land Cruiser owners take note: this shop actually knows what they are doing when it comes to Cruisers. As a long time Cruiser addict, I have paid dearly over the years for my addiction in terms of botched repairs by shops that were happy to take my money and deliver inferior work. Or in some cases, to make things worse than when they started. I thought that when I went from driving the classic 60 series wagons to the 2008 200 series that I have now, my problems in finding a mechanic that knew their way around a Cruiser would be over. Sadly, that hasn't been my experience. Which is why I feel that is important to recognize Mike and his team of seasoned pros at Desert Toy Shop. After being on the road for 9500 miles this past August, and after an almost criminally poor brake job at the beginning of that trip, I knew I had to find someone that could get me safely back on the road. Research on yelp and ih8mud pointed to Desert Toy. These guys delivered a complete brake job and new shocks all around that gave my Cruiser new life and superb handling on and off road- I tested the workmanship on some rough trails in the Mojave desert. Sadly, the early life of my Cruiser exposed it to the dreaded East Coast salted winter roads. When these guys ran into complications as a result of the rust, they stuck with the job, didn't complain once and were more than fair on their pricing. Throughout the process, I was kept in the loop and was impressed by their ingenuity. Over a thousand miles later, I'm happy as hell with the work these pros did. Desert Toy deserves your business if you care about your Cruiser. Even though I'm based 5 hours away in Vegas, I have no plans to let any other shop touch my truck, even for an oil change. read more

Mike and Desert Toy Shop are experts in Land Cruisers! We took our 1994 Land Cruiser to another Toyota repair shop to have the ABS and break system completely redone. Unfortunately, they could not address all of the brake issues and after almost $2,000 in repairs we ended up with continued brake problems and they could not tell us the reason why. We then found out about Mike and Desert Toy Shop. They quickly identified the issues and the problem was the previous repair shop did not utilize Toyota certified parts. Mike and his team where great to work with -- knowledgeable, honest and dependable. The brakes and ABS system work great! They also installed a new radiator, installed all new engine gaskets, installed new fenders, new mirrors, all new hoses, repaired the automatic windows as well as a few other items. I never write reviews, but this place totally deserves it. I brought in my Mazda 3 (2011) after having it inspected at the dealership primarily because the brakes needed to be fixed up (as the dealership claimed). Turned out that after the guys at Desert Toy Shop offered to test drive *and* inspect the brakes without charging me that the brakes were completely fine. I ended up simply getting an oil change, wheel alignment (as suggested), and replaced an air filter that they ordered. When I came to pick up my car, one of the guys (this one was Mike I think?) explained the details about the wheel alignment and why it needed to be done. This shop was super friendly and professional, which is why when I actually do need to get work done on my car I will happily give them more business. Check them out! read more

Being a Landcruiser owner and enthusiast, I was excited when I found out that a shop claiming to specialize in LC's existed within 10 minus of my house. I dropped the vehicle off for a diagnosis on brakes which I knew needed attention. The first sign that things were amiss was when one tech got defensive and impatient with me about trying to schedule the additional work they found needed to be done to the vehicle. That seemed unwarranted and unprofessional. Not feeling comfortable with that, I decided to let them just do a regular oil change, and continue looking for a better shop elsewhere. But...unbelievably, they proved themselves to be incompetent at even something as simple as a basic oil change. A few weeks after the oil change, I was poking around under the hood troubleshooting an AC problem when I noticed that the air filter box cover was not secure - none of the clips were engaged correctly. I opened the box to shockingly discover that they had removed my air filter and left it out completely and had left the box open. That means that I was driving my vehicle around for a few weeks with no air filter at all - thanks to these "Landcruiser specialists." I know pickings are slim out there for fair, honest, and competent repair shops - especially that specialize in Toyota, but do yourself a favor and pass on this one. They are out of the way for many people, but I recommend taking a look at TOYAUTO or the guy next door to him "LEX-TECH" in Apache Junction. They've always done good work for me on my Tacoma, and LC respectively. read more
