We had a great experience with Designer's Magic. We had gone to both Home Depot and had measurements done with quotes and even checked Lowe's. Then that night I saw Richard car with info for his company on it, and I decided to try a quote from him just in case, since he said he beats their prices. Sure enough, they showed us great options, we're able to do the carpet install in less than a week time, when both Home Depot and Lowe's said 3 weeks would be the shortest turn around. The installer's were kind and positive (a father and son team), and even Richard did the measurement himself. His son had helped us get the right solution in the store as well (another father son team). Everything went great, and it looks fantastic. We have done over a dozen projects with Designer Magic without reading the reviews so we were quite stunned with some of the negative ones. Richard and RJ and the rest of the staff have been great as have been the installers. We have used services like this for our homes and rentals in at least 4 different counties over the years and Designer Magic has been among the best. The price usually beats everyone and both the selection and the expertise is the real difference. Recently we purchased over $2000 in flooring for a self install and had to return it--even though at first the supplier balked, DM found a way to return it and makes us whole. We have used this family owned business in San Clemente in the past with great results. We needed ro replace rugs in 3 bedrooms with laminate. After checking other businesses we knew that Designers Magic Flooring was the place to go again. They were prompt, responsive, and did an excellent job. The whole family was great: Richard, R.J. and Kevin. However in protecting our very old tiles the taped down canvas when removed stripped off the sealer and left strips on the tile. They immediately volunteered to correct the problem and stripped and resealed all the tiles in that area includung those not affected. What more could we ask? Great job! read more

It was an absolute pleasure dealing with the staff at Designer's Magic. I tend to be a little picky about things and I look for high standards of quality and competitive pricing. The majority of my home is carpeting and I wanted a specific type of low profile carpet and color. Designer's Magic made arrangements for a custom dyed sample that was a perfect match. The installation was done in one day by three of the most caring and dedicated workers I could have wanted. The installers worked from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm and they would not quit until the job was done right. I had to call 3x before I could get a call-back on a small job estimate. I finally got the order placed, waited for the call that it was done, no call. I called them, they "lost my phone number." Again? Really? Picked up the rug, took it home-- and it was cut to the wrong size! We took it back, waited for a phone call that it was done. No phone call. We went back again to pick it up-- and not even a "sorry." My parents ran their own businesses, and this isn't how a small business should be run! Never the word sorry- just excuses each time for lack of call-backs, the the wrong sized carpet-- which WE had to take back, pick up again. read more

I prefer to support local small businesses, but they lost their opportunity. We ended up at LA Carpet in San Juan Capistrano and just had 1800 sq feet of carpet installed. I received a quote on a carpet I really liked from them and later spoke with an interior designer friend of mine that told me I was being way over charged. I received a second bid on the same exact carpet for over a thousand dollars less. I did allow Designers Magic to price match. Square foot prices do not include shipping from his supplier to his store or 2% Visa charge. If I had not already purchased the flooring from him I would have cancelled. INITIAL IMPRESSION: very good: reasonable pricing and helpful staff. The floor as installed looked quite nice. The problems began almost immediately when the flooring started to bubble. RJ was called as soon as we noticed it and we were told it was our fault (!) because the weather was so hot and humid in San Clemente we should have left every window open, the fans going, or the A/C on. Really? A/C in San Clemente? Anyway, we asked for someone to come out and look at the problem. RJ came out and agreed there was a problem. Then the installer came out and said there was a problem. Again we were told we created the problem. But they could repair it, just not right away due to their work load. Apparently they are so busy with new work they cannot find time to fix mistakes. And this was a mistake: not enough expansion space was left for the wood flooring. They are supposed to be the experts and yet they did not account for a hot, humid summer and blamed us. Because this is a vacation home we are not there every day. We had to schedule the repair when we would be there. But we were visiting the apartment on at least a weekly basis and the bubble got so severe we put painter's tape on it to warn people of the tripping hazard. Called RJ multiple times to see if someone could come out and make a temporary repair and I was repeatedly told no, basically I had to wait my turn, because, after all "it was caused by us". When they finally did show up, they were late. Repairs have been made. Now we are waiting to see if the problem re-appears. FINAL IMPRESSION: Customer service was horrid! If there is a problem, prepare to wait for assistance in fixing their mistakes. Apparently they are VERY interested in getting new business but NOT in keeping business. read more
