A true dive bar where you feel like you need to hide in the corner due to the shady factor. Reminds me of a crusty establishment you'd come across in Allston, Massachusetts. Certainly not a place I'd frequent as an adult, although I can see why hipsters, punks, and skint college kids would enjoy it. Enter at own risk if wearing formal attire. read more

I was just reading the latest review from T.G. in Houston. We must have been there at the exact same time. (I was S3G) DA's WAS my hangout. Went there, had drinks, met a girl from Skidmore, fell in love, transferred away. My things have changed. The usuals were there Travis, Rock, Wayne...and was it Tim? And some super old guy that drank there during the day. Got my ass kicked by some wrestler defending Tims girlfriend. Loved it so much I moved onto Caroline Street near the end... played baseball video games....I just remember Juan Samuel was the man! Good times there! It looks like things have not changed. Desperate Annie's is easily the best bar in this godforsaken small city. The bartenders are one of the many reasons I keep coming back! It's more of a spot for the folks who live here, which is hard to find in a tourist town. People with an open mind, a good heart and basic human decency will find that they're served quickly and efficiently; nasty customers are not tolerated. It's such a welcome sight in such a gilded community. This bar has been around longer than most Saratoga residents and its consistent excellence will keep it around until the end of time. read more

I tried to meet up with my friends at Desperate Annie's on my 21st birthday and was denied entrance into the bar, even when I got a police officer to verify my ID. I was horrified by how the bouncer screamed at me and refused to look/scan/inspect my ID. Best bar in Toga, hands down. So much fun was had sitting in DA's feeding endless quarters into the Jukebox that had everything from Morrisey to Johnny Cash. As it has been said, this is one of the best JukeBoxes in a bar in the whole capital district. There's a pool table crammed in the back, some darts.. But that's not why you came here. The atmosphere and vibes of the bar are nice but the staff that work there are incredibly rude and disrespectful. My friend ordered a drink and kindly set it back down on the counter when she was done. One of the bartenders immediately and rudely asked her to leave after this. When we tried to ask why he would not give us a reason and proceeded to forcefully push us out the door. I have friends who work in the restaurant industry and this is terrible training on the company's part. This is not the first time I have witnessed one of their staff be tremendously rude to their customers and I can assure you I will not be coming back. I would not recommend attending this bar to anyone solely because of the hostility of their staff. read more

Festive with Christmas lights in May. Kinda get morgue vibes... dark and quiet. Smells like chemicals. Must sit real deep in the church pews (you've been warned) Strawberry beer taste mildewy. My girlie and I went to DA's on Halloween. Lots of interesting costumes and plenty hussies running around with their sexy costumes on. A display that reminds a Saratogian why we live here. Halloween is about exploring the parts of us that we keep tied up all year. Bare trees and stiff branches remind us that there is a dark underworld that acts as a framework to our personalities. It's not as pretty as those autumn colors, but it's there staring us in the face. Da's is the silhouette of an elm tree after the leaves have fallen. It's the branches that knock at your window on stormy nights. It's cheap drinks, fast women and loud music. It's the lowest common denominator, and that's what makes us equal. It gives Saratoga a little backbone after all that pussy shit at the track. If that's the kind of thing you like as many of my fellow Yelpers do, I suppose you'll like Da's. read more

Place is legit amazing. Izzy slings it behind the bar. He has no problem giving a recommendation or a shot, basically in the same breath. There are bar games all over and, if you can look past some of the odors, this place invites you to come enjoy some of the region's best libations. If you're a snob stay away. This is the place to go. It's a great starting off point because the drinks are affordable. This is the local hotspot. It's convienently located on Caroline st. On the weekends this place is packed at night. But it's great for the end of the night when the crowd has died down. The staff there are incredible. And the owner is down to earth as well. My friends and I really love this place. It's hard to think of going out in Saratoga with out D.A.'s. Try it out. You don't have to dress up to come out here. read more

I know I'm a tourist but I'm a tourist in a tourist town. Therefore, locals have no reason to get upset at tourists who are keeping their businesses alive. I walked in honestly not even realizing the vibe of the bar (it's a dive bar, lots of alternative people, everyone drinking beer). I had my friend order me a vodka water with lemon. The bartender reacted in distaste. He was silent, made the drink, and slid it over to us. Very rude. What, was my order too basic for you!? It was the night of a beer festival in town, so I understand the crowd was not his usual demographic, but we are still paying customers who deserve decent service and should be welcomed instead of being made to feel uncomfortable. read more

We stopped in here for a drink after the show and we were not there for five minutes before my wife's jacket went missing. We went to the door man and told him what was going on and he called the manager who went right over to where she had left her jacket. Some guy was sitting there at the table and the manager pulled the table out and there was her coat on the floor next to this guy. I can not thank the manager enough for recovering my wife's jacket. this is my favorite bar in saratoga and, for quite some time, was the destination for most of my weekend nights. everyone's already covered the juke box, pool table, dirty bathrooms (wahhhh), and general atmosphere so i'll cover a few protips: 1) you punch the pinball machine, you get kicked out. it doesn't matter if it stole your money. 2) making a habit of finishing your road sodas while milling around out front and then leaving the cans on the sidewalk when you go in will earn you the disdain of the bouncers. this is a practice you should try to avoid. 3) rock and johnny are two of the best bartenders in the world and should be treated as such. if you're cool with them your life at DA's will be blessed with prompt service, entertaining stories, an occasional free shot, and the quick expulsion of anyone who fucks with you. be polite and cool, tip well, and you'll be set. now go drink up read more

i will follow suit with alissa d's rating: 5 stars all the way for da's. it's likely i spend more of my waking hours at this bar than in my own apartment. da's doesn't have fancy inis. go there to drink beer or traditional (and cheap!) well drinks. but don't expect lime in your tonic, a cherry in your jack, or lemon in your weizen. there's a fair amount of beers on tap: newcastle, stella, two types of magic hat, the sam adams brew of the season, a few others i'm sure. plus you have your standard bottled fare. da's is the closest thing i'll ever probably have to a cheers-like establishment. really. i think everyone knows my name. and i know theirs: travis, rock, johnny, izzy, jeremy, ross.... it's such a great bar that even bartenders from the other nearby bars go there when they aren't working. amenities include, but are not limited to, two tvs, pool, darts, foosball, arcade games, a cigarette machine, and a dope juke box. their should be a ban on how many songs can be played from the dmb, phish, sublime, and oasis albums nightly, but that will probably never happen. on the weekends, you can also get your top 40 fix by standing outside da's and listening to the music from the bar 13 across the street... at times, the best of both worlds. only negative: never order wine at da's. a mistake i recently made. woof. read more

I really like DA's. It's the first bar in Saratoga that I've really wanted to go to on a regular basis. The jukebox is great (ignore the "hipster college rock" post) and changes based on suggestions and new staff picks. I've yet to see DA's busy - at most there have been ten other people there. Good drink specials, darts, a pool table and a nice, dark interior should make this place a much busier hangout. Or maybe not, 'cause then I'd never get a seat at the bar. read more
