My spouse (of six days!) and I booked a private (meaning a party of just us -- the beach was moderately busy) Friday AM snorkel with Destination Diving's Michelle and had an incredible time. Michelle was communicative, flexible on time, provided all equipment, and gave us training (equipment and sea life) for our little adventure. We had fun while we gently explored Kahekili Beach (AKA Airport Beach, apparently) and almost immediately saw a turtle! There were many fish, another turtle, beautiful reefs, and even and eel. The price felt great for Michelle's expertise and tour around the reefs to get a variety of sights. Note that the option of getting photos (which *are* curated and edited) is a separate fee. Michelle was the absolute best! She made sure we were well informed and prepared with all the right gear before the dive. It had been a couple years for us and she made sure we were very comfortable before the dive. The dive itself was amazing. I wanted to try Discover Scuba in Hawaii, given that Maui is one of the best places on Earth to scuba. I had only tried a discover scuba once before, and my cousin had never done Scuba before (and had quite a bit of anxiety about trying it). While planning for our trip, I wanted to find a dive master that had a personal touch, and do a private session with someone who's patient, rather than go with one of the large companies. This turned out to be the perfect scuba experience. Michelle was very thorough in explaining everything, which was especially good because my cousin was really quite nervous about trying something new like Scuba. But Michelle was not only knowledgeable and patient, but really did a GREAT job of coaching and making this a fun experience. Not only is she a great diver (she's so graceful underwater!), but also a great guide, making sure we were, comfortable, felt safe, and were having fun. Also, P.S., she's a great photographer and took some nice underwater shots. We started out at Kapalua Bay where we did some safety briefings and training in the parking lot, then loaded our gear and went in the water from the beach. At a very shallow depth (feet can touch the ground), we practiced some basic Scuba safety maneuvers underwater. After we demonstrated our safety skills, we began our journey seeing some beautiful fish and coral. Michelle is really good at finding and pointing out interest sea life. We saw a lot of colorful fish, pencil chalk urchins, two different types of eels, and a turtle resting in an underwater nook / cave in a rock. For anybody that wants a great guide, and especially if you are a beginner like us, Michelle is absolutely fantastic. My brother and I brought our nephew to Maui for his first real vacation in November 2022 and needed to make sure this experience was the best it could have been for him. Michelle (DD&S) was our first activity amongst others and she could not have shown us a better time. The focus was obviously providing my nephew with the best experience possible and she succeeded. I came to Maui with my dad and fiance for the 1st time in 12 years and was looking for an opportunity to run an intro dive for my fiancé (dad and i have been certified for nearly 20 years). I called quite a few locations, some places gave some responses with steep pricing while others didnt even call back. While calling all these locations, one thing I kept thinking about was "how many other intro divers would there be with us on the dive?", I really want to make sure my fiancé has the attention I'd expect for what I'm paying, and to make sure she's safe and comfortable underwater. I don't write reviews often but felt I had to in this case. I honestly can't say enough wonderful things about Michelle. She is the best scuba instructor and the kindest person. I was looking for an instructor for my kids, ages 11 and 13. I can't describe how much trust I needed to have in an instructor to take my kids down to the bottom of the ocean! I called so many different shops and instructors but as soon as I talked to Michelle I knew she was the one to go with. When we met her in person, it just confirmed I had made the right choice. She was absolutely wonderful with the kids and provided them with top-notch instruction. She really made sure they knew how to do all of the skills and could handle different situations that might arise. They are both excellent and very safe scuba divers. We just did our first family dive together, and both of my kids impressed everyone on our dive so much. My eleven year old even helped an adult diver who was nervous have a positive and safe experience. All because they had the best teacher ever! read more
