    Carlsbad Windmill by Wedgewood Weddings

My husband and I were very happy with the planning process at Wedgewood Carlsbad Windmill. The…read moreplanning team was organized, responsive, and made the months leading up to our wedding incredibly easy. They helped simplify decisions and kept everything on track, which we greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, our experience on the actual wedding day did not meet the expectations set during the planning process. When speaking with our planners, specifically for the ceremony portion, we mentioned that we wanted to create reception programs. We spent the time and money to do so, and we specifically intended them to be placed on the reception tables for guests to read during dinner and throughout the reception. Instead, they were placed on the ceremony chairs. This was not what we had planned, and many guests either left them behind after the ceremony or did not have them available during the reception when they were actually meant to be used. We also purchased the Elite Open Bar package and informed Wedgewood multiple times beforehand that our guests would likely consume a significant amount of Hennessy shots. Despite this, many guests commented that the bartenders were pouring unusually small shots and sometimes refusing additional shots if they believed a guest had already received one. This created frustration among our guests and did not reflect the open-bar experience we had paid for. We also received multiple complaints regarding one of the bartenders, specifically the African American male bartender. Several guests felt he was rude and unprofessional. One guest witnessed him move our drink menu from the front of the bar to the back so that a tip sign could be displayed more prominently. When she was trying to order and could not see the menu, he repeatedly rushed her and reminded her that there was a line behind her. Additionally, one of my bridesmaids ordered a drink for herself and later returned to the bar after I asked her to get me one while I was on the dance floor. The bartender questioned her, saying, "I just gave you one," and after she explained that the second drink was for the bride, he appeared reluctant to serve her and rolled his eyes. Our biggest operational concern involved the ceremony coordination and officiant, Kimiko. Communication between the officiant and coordinators appeared lacking. I was surprised when the officiant approached my husband and me approximately 10 minutes before the ceremony to ask about the order of the processional and who would be participating in the Filipino traditions, including the veil, cord, and candle ceremonies. These details had already been discussed and practiced during rehearsal the day before. At one point, when our photographer attempted to correct the officiant, she responded with visible attitude in front of everyone, which was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Additionally, the officiant should have confirmed marriage license witnesses ahead of time. During an already busy and hectic period when we were taking photos and greeting guests after during cocktail hour, she asked me to identify witnesses from the crowd rather than having this organized beforehand. This added unnecessary stress at a time when we should have been able to focus on enjoying our celebration. The rehearsal itself went smoothly, and the ceremony order was clearly established. However, on the wedding day, several parts were executed incorrectly in front of our guests. For a wedding that incorporated cultural traditions that are deeply meaningful to our families, this was particularly disappointing. We trusted that the rehearsal would ensure everything ran smoothly, but that was not the case. The order of our Filipino traditions had been reviewed and finalized during rehearsal but was not followed during the ceremony. With that being said, one of our biggest disappointments was that the blessing of the food was also forgotten before the table dash. As a Filipino Catholic couple, saying a prayer and blessing the meal before eating is not simply a small detail--it is a meaningful tradition and an important part of our faith and culture. We specifically included this in our plans because it was something that mattered deeply to us and our families. Once the table dash began and guests started getting food, there was no opportunity to properly incorporate the blessing as intended. It was heartbreaking to realize afterward that such an important moment had been overlooked. Overall, while the planning team did an excellent job preparing us for the wedding, the execution on the wedding day fell short in several important areas. We are grateful for the support we received throughout the planning process, but we hope these concerns are addressed so future couples--especially those incorporating important cultural and religious traditions into their wedding day--can have a smoother and more thoughtfully executed experience.

The event flowed smoothly, with plenty of space and a great atmosphere overall. Food was solid -- steak cooked well, paired with mashed potatoes, veggies, and a fresh salad. Drinks were on point and kept the celebration going. What really stood out was how seamless everything felt. Great staff, great setup, and an overall stress-free experience. Would definitely come back for another event.

CLASSIC / BOHO / COASTAL WEDDING VIBES - CHECK!…read more It was the absolute pleasure working with Alona for our wedding floral needs. After vetting 18 floral vendors (yes, 18!!!), Alona came in the strongest and was able to understand our vision the most. She was very easy to talk to on the phone as well as over email. Over the course of almost 14 months of wedding planning, there were times when I had to reach out to her and update our floral count. Alona did not give us a hard time about the updates at all or make it seem as if she was annoyed, unlike how other florists were while I was just vetting them! Our floral vibes were to be basically all white roses, baby's breath, with some boho touches to the arrangements. My initial bridal bouquet incorporated white roses and a few orchids. The biggest painpoint for us was having to lock in the best deal despite how many boutonnieres and corsages we needed for our larger (FIlipino traditional) wedding. Not only did Alona come in the closest to our floral budget, on the day of the wedding, she surprised me with absolutely beautiful touches of white peonies and carnations to my bouquet at no additional cost! Additionally, the bouquets for each of the tables as well as on our wedding cake were full and fresh looking. All of our guests complimented how beautiful the flowers were and wanted to take an arrangement home! I cannot recommend Alona enough for your wedding florals. Wedding planning is already super stressful. Make it less stressful by partnering with Alona and her team!

I wish I had a better review to write as Alona was great to work with in the beginning…read more Unfortunately, the area I was most disappointed on my wedding day was the florals. I was very specific about my floral vision and discussed in detail with Alona several times on what I wanted. Specifically for reception, the most important floral element for me was the sweetheart table. We discussed repurposing the ceremony florals to create a full, circular arch behind the sweetheart table with additional florals around the base of the table. She had assured me we would have enough florals from the ceremony to repurpose to not only the sweetheart table, but also the welcome table/bar/cake table as well. I even bought more florals for the ceremony arch to achieve this sweetheart table vision. However, this is not what we received. On the day of the wedding, Alona's team told us the start of our reception needed to be delayed by approximately 30 minutes because they were still working on the reception florals. We waited to seat our guests because we wanted to give them the time they needed to finish. Despite the delay, the sweetheart table installation was still extremely sparse and looked unfinished. The arch behind us was mostly bare and there were only two floral arrangements on the ground. I have attached the inspiration pic we discussed and the final result. I was mortified when I saw it - it looked so bare and incomplete. Additionally, this delay threw off the rest of our reception timeline. Dinner had to be shortened so we ended up having to skip "table touching", which was something we had really been looking forward to. I was very sad and disappointed when I walked into the reception because the sweetheart table was one of the elements we had discussed in detail as I cared a lot about it. The ceremony arch had a significant amount of florals, so I am still confused about what happened during the repurposing process. I am confused where the ceremony arch flowers went, since they don't appear to have been used to create the sweetheart table installation nor were there any flowers at the bar, cake table, or welcome table. I reached out to Alona after the wedding to understand what happened. It has now been almost three weeks without a response. I would have appreciated the courtesy of at least an explanation. Paying 5 figures for florals to have the sweetheart table look like this is incredibly disappointing. When I look back at my reception photos, I get upset with how bad and bare it looked. Don't even get me started on the ceiling florals that started to fall during the reception. I highly do not recommend Chic Flowers.

She's an delight to work with, and her centerpieces were EXACTLY what i wanted- classy, feminine, and absolutely gorgeous! Out of all my wedding vendors, Joyce was definitely in the top 2...she's THAT good. I first met Joyce at the Grand Tradition Estate bridal show, where some of her beautiful work was displayed as centerpieces. I took her contact information but was afraid of her prices, as it seems like she would charge much more than other vendors who were also at the show. I called her a few weeks later, and gave her my budget and a rough idea of what i wanted. She said she would definitely work with me, and a few days later sent me a quote with how much everything would cost. I have to admit, i got sticker shock when I first saw the final price- it was at least $1000 more than the number i had given. Nevertheless, i met with her at Grand Traditon estate a few months later (she was setting up for another wedding) and i took her quote with me. We sat down and started negotiating item by item. She switched out some of the more expensive flowers for in season ones, took out some ceremony decor i didn't necessary need, and after 30 mins we managed to bring the final price more or less to what i wanted. I was so relieved that Joyce was so easy to work with, and willing to go down on her prices to accommodate my budget. I walked away very comfortable with my flowers, and confident that Joyce would bring my vision to life. I ended up making a lot of last minute changes anyways, but Joyce was very patient and reassuring. I also had Joyce decorate my wedding cake (I absolutely love fresh flowers everywhere) When i walked into my venue on the day of the wedding, boy was i blown away! the flowers were on tall. 24" vases filled with water and a white flower (orchids?) They brought a very classy and elegant feel to the reception. Our DJ did a coral uplighting in the reception, and they perfectly complimented the flowers for the most amazing reception decor. My guests kept commenting on how gorgeous the flowers were, and the ones who got to take the centerpieces home were delighted! My hubby and i went on a cruise the day after our wedding, and i insisted on bringing the centerpiece on board with me to display in our room. I loved them so much i couldn't bear the thought of leaving them at home. Before my wedding planning started i didn't even know i wanted fresh flowers, or how much of a difference they made. I would hire Joyce again in a heartbeat, and strongly recommend her to anyone planning an event in San Diego!
