For our 38th anniversary we decided to check out a little German place we had seen online. It is in a shopping center next to a Food Lion, but there is plenty of parking on their side of the lot. On entry is a cute but spacious Bavarian themed eatery, some high tops a small bar and plenty of booths and tables. We chose a cozy corner. Service was attentive and friendly, unsweet tea nicely brewed. We chose a cheese plate appetizer, followed by rouladin for one of us, which was devoured. The other of us chose a nicely breaded Weiner schnitzel. Sides of potato dumplings, sauerkraut and red cabbage were great compliments. The dessert choices were plentiful and the apple German cheesecake was suggested. It came with a side of caramel and was just the right compliment to the end of our meal. Total was under $70 plus gratuity for 2 drinks, an appetizer, 2 entrees and dessert. The environs are very casual and give off a Bavarian blue, white and yellow themed vibe. Delicious authentic German restaurant with kind service! Ate here with a group of five at lunch and all enjoyed our meals. I had the schnitzel with the mushroom gravy on the side and the schnitzel was cooked perfectly! I like my mushroom gravy a little thicker but the taste was good! My side was the crispy potatoes and they were very yummy. Others at the table enjoyed sausages and their curry ketchup as well as their German potato salad. Traditionally German potato salad is served warm but this one was cold, but still had all the traditional German flavors of German Potato salad. This place is awesome. The decor is simple and authentic. Pretty scenic pictures on the wall with German music playing in background. You can order to go at a counter or seat yourself. We started with a Kase plate with 4 different cheeses served with bread. There was one that looked like a mix of egg salad and potato salad that was my favorite. The waitress described it as similar to a beer cheese. There was Swiss, Camembert and a spicy Gouda. My husband had the Gebackener LeberKäse - Mix of Pork, Beef, German Sausage Loaf with potato salad or fried potatoes small side salad. He had it with fried potatoes that had plenty of onions. It was liked a fried thick cut bologna. Very flavorful. I had the Rouladen - A delicious blend of bacon, onions, pickles and mustard rolled together in a thin slice of Beef served with bread dumplings and red cabbage. The rolled beef was so tender and served with a gravy over it and the bread dumplings. Everything was great. They have their ABC license and serve some beer and limited wines. It's a family run business and I know one of the parents speaks German as well observed them speaking with customers while we were there previously. Wonderful and delicious German cuisine here. I've gone two times now, one time for dinner and one time for lunch so far. The dinner menu and the lunch menu differ which is fine and I like that they do this.the dinner menu has larger portions and more items to pick and choose from. The lunch menu has smaller portions and less to choose from, but non the less it's still good. I like that the restaurant follows traditional European traditions too such as closing for two hours mid day and being closed on Sundays. The staff here is very friendly and the service is good. The ambiance is cute. I will definitely be going back again. read more

Unimpressed. Was expecting more than we got based on previous reviews. Service was ok but not outstanding. I had the sauerbraten which a bit tough and short on gravy. The red cabbage wasn't very flavorful. The dumpling had great flavor but was a bit dry which wasn't helped by the lack of gravy. My wife had a brat burger which wasn't very flavorful good but ordinary. The German potato salad was uninspired. Only high spot of the meal was the German chocolate cake. I went for lunch service and wasn't impressed to say the least. The restaurant is cute, and it is seat yourself, and the seating was full of food crumbs from previous diners. The lunch menu is very limited, no fresh green salads or spaztle. I tried the goulash soup for starter, it lacked traditional seasonings and was very greasy making it taste like I was drinking a greasy water broth. It was served with a slice of bread cold and no butter. For my main I had the mushroom schnitzel with potatoe salad. The schnitzel was cooked well, but the canned mushrooms with packaged brown hravy ruined it and the potato salad was cold, no seasoning, and unlike any German potato salad I have ever had. They put pickles in it. It was not fit to eat. The service was no better, only saw the server twice. Once to take order and then to drop off the check. Lunch was delivered by the kitchen and a different server took our plates and drinks before we were done. Only 2 stars, one for the atmosphere and one for prices. I won't be returning. read more

I was hoping I would enjoy a great Jaeger schnitzel, red cabbage, spatzle and a bowl of goulash soup. But it wasn't so. The soup was served warm and was okay in taste. The schnitzel itself was cooked okay, but the jaeger sauce was warm and did not cover the schnitzel. It also looked darker brown than I have had before. The red cabbage wasn't red, was warm and was brown in color and the spatzle was cold. We were with a group of 10 on a Saturday evening at 6PM. That also caused the service to be so so. We may go back again without a group to see if the meal improves along with the service. They did have a selection of German beers, but none on tap, all in cans. I'm not german but Ive had my share of german food in numerous places I've even experienced home cooked german food that was delicious. This particular restaurant failed severely in all aspects. One of my favorite dishes is Rouladen and this example was a failure. The bgg eef was overcooked, dry and fairly tasteless. Red cabbage also was included and it was not fresh, hardly any seasoning and cold. There were two ice cream scoops of something that may have been mashed potatoes, I'm still not sure. Still no taste. I refused to eat my meal and talked with the 'chef' voicing my opinion I asked for b their weiner plate with a side of german potato salad. The dogs were not of the highest quality; one ) bratwurst, and two other weiners. What really was the last straw was the potato salad. I asked for it to be heated and was presented with a serving of potato salad right out of the fridge. Again, it tasted like nothing like german potato salad. No vinegar, no bacon and I couldn't find any onions. The place was PACKED and they almost refused service but we managed a table for four. There was ONE server for the entire pla c e and another h elder taking drink orders. I definitely will not return. read more

Ok food, very bad service. We ordered drinks and appetizers shortly after arriving. The server brought us the wrong appetizers, but rather than apologize and try to correct their mistake, the waitress yelled at us and told us she would charge us! For their mistake! They brought us the right appetizers, which included a pretzel. The pretzel was clearly frozen and reheated. I know this because part of it was still as hard as a brick. It echoed when I knocked it on the table. After that, the waitress did not even come back to our table for another 35 minutes, while a couple of us hadn't even gotten a glass of water to drink yet and nobody had ordered entrees. Once we finally got the attention of the waitress (who seemed to be the only server in the whole place on a busy Saturday night), we placed entree orders. Then we waited OVER AN HOUR. My friend then asked the waitress about our food. She told us that they would be starting on our food soon. At this point, it had already been over an hour and a half of us waiting, and they hadn't even started the food! Several of my friends left to go to another place. A couple of us stuck it out, hoping to actually try the entrees. We were at the restaurant for two hours before the food came. For a schnitzel that cost $18, the food was disappointing in that it tasted like it was just frozen and reheated in a microwave. At least that wasn't too bad. All in all, we spent nearly three hours at this place, mostly waiting, and got a rock-hard pretzel, a few drinks from bottles (there is nothing on draft), and overpriced entrees. We will not be coming back. The owners need to hire more waitstaff and take a look at their quality control process if they want to improve their service. read more

Goulash soup had more of a Dinty Moore stew taste. Bread good. Side salad nice & fresh w/a light vinegarette. Saurbraten odd flavor. Schnitzel was small & not crispy. Cabbage had ok flavor, but mushy from simmering to long. Potato dumplings were more of a mashed potato ball. Decided to pass on dessert. Guessing no alcohol license yet. read more

I've been looking for a good German restaurant in the area for a long time. I've been to all of them in the past and none met my expectations, until I decide to try the fairly new Deutshe Ecke. They serve authentic German food, and it's cooked just like they do in Germany. The atmosphere is casual and the staff are friendly and prompt. As someone who lived in Germany for 14 years I can honestly say you will not be disappointed having a casual dinner at this establishment. The price is reasonable and the menu has many items to choose from. I highly recommend them, just wish they were open at lunchtime. read more
