While this is one of the lower ratings I've ever given to a restaurant, I can see the appeal of it. It's in a resort, the atmosphere is rustic and the resort in general is very nice. The service was also prompt, accurate and friendly. But the food is overpriced for the quality and my drinks were as much as I'd pay for an EXPENSIVE drink in San Francisco. I ordered the house salad with trout; adding the trout was an extra $10 (yes, extra. On a salad. But when in Rome). I expected a really nice piece of fish. Instead I got a cold, mushy, over salted and over cooked mess on over dressed lettuce. I also ordered a white bean soup which ended up looking like something out of a can. The kicker was that I ordered two drinks, Templeton on the rocks. They were $14 each. What?!? $14 for a glass of whiskey that's not imported from Japan? In Branson. My check came out to $55. With a tip, that's more than I'd normally spend on a dinner for two with drinks. And I had soup and salad!!!! So no, I cannot really recommend this. We love to boat here for a delicious Miami vice and the ozark mountain smoked trout. We had buffalo wings last time, as well. They were pretty good. The prime rib sandwich is always good as well. Beautiful view from outside is always nice. read more

Service was good but for the price the dinner was poor I had shrimp and grits it had plenty of shrimp but it had no spicy flavor I told the waiter and he tried to tell me that they make it for mid Americans I said that's where I live it has no spice great waiter but bad shrimp and grits I had to ask for a spoon to get any grits read more

Not sure where to start with this review, but I have been going to Big Cedar for 30+ years and just had the worst experience ever at Devil's Pool Restaurant this week. First off, it took about 10 min for someone to come get our drink order and it was not crowded at 6:30 pm. We place a drink order and 25 min later we got some waters and 2 cocktails! So, we are 35 min into dinner and just got a drink, and when I complained that it took 35 min to get some water or anything to drink to the waitress she was extremely rude and unprofessional. And once we had our drinks we would go for extended periods of time without a refill or seeing our waitress, then she would come back and refill the tables glasses except for mine. And I ordered a salad and the waitress throws it in front of me and says I hope that was quicker than the drinks in a sarcastic tone! We also ordered an appetizer to come out before the meals, but never did see the appetizer, so once the meals came out I asked about the app. The waitress said there was a mix up in the kitchen and she would bring them right out and did not apologize or offer to take them off the bill. So, we are eating dinner and my daughter ordered a cheeseburger and she is about half done with it and finds a hair in the actual burger! Then once everyone is done with dinner the chicken livers come out with no apology from the waitress for the mix up! Then we go to pay for the meal with our room number which we have done everywhere on the Big Cedar property for several days, and the waitress says she needs to see a driver's license of who reserved the room, which was my wife who did not have her ID, but I did and they would not accept this. By this point I asked to see the manager who did not once come around and see how things were going. After telling all of this to the manager, she still did not allow us charge dinner to the room, and after 10 min of complaining the manager did say she would take off the appetizer and the cheeseburger that had the hair in it, but I am just not sure I will go back to that restaurant after this experience. read more

We were extremely excited to dine at this restaurant, but unfortunately we were let down. We ordered two Ceasar salads which were subpar at best. Nothing special and definitely not worth the price. For an entree we split the pan seared trout and while the fish was good, the sides were bland. As for service, our waitress took our orders and gave us our bill and that is the only interaction we had with her. She did not come and check on us, offer us more water, or take our plates away. If you are looking for a nice place this is filled with loud kids. Another server did more of our service than the one assigned to our table. read more

Tried it twice, awful both times. Had to wait over 10 min to be seated despite having reservations. Fried chicken was under-seasoned and our 2 bowls of soup were first forgotten about entirely then when they arrived after our meal (!!!), they were both cold. Not lukewarm but actually cold. The server attempted to bring us sesame seed crackers to start but I declined and informed her someone at our table was allergic to sesame seeds. She then proceeded to try to bring them again. This place was amazing!! Food was delicious and service was amazing!! We ordered Grilled Trout, Country Fried Steak and the Devils Dessert. The kids ordered Pasta with white sauce and kids pizza! We ate here a couple of times last week and it was fabulous! The design is set as a rustic wooded hunting lodge. It has two fireplaces, one wood and one gas. It was cold when we were there and they had both of them going. It is decorated with hunting and fishing decor. Derek was our server both evenings. You can tell that he really likes what he does. The first night we had fondue for an appetizer. It was a cheesy fondue stuffed with meat and mushrooms. Best I've had in years. Brian had the shrimp boil for dinner and I had the trout. Everything was fabulous. The shrimp boil was great. It had shrimp, baby potatoes, sausage and okra. My trout was perfectly cooked and served on a bed of rice and spinach. read more

Decent service, decent food. Service was really slow for the night. We had to wait about 45 min for our appetiser to be made. Wanted the cornbread but that would've taken longer to make a fresh batch. Our server, didn't catch his name, was wonderful and charming. The French toast hot toddy is really amazing. My date and I split the fondue-soooo good! Bread was perfection. Cheese was delicious and warm. I don't even like onions but these didn't bother me. You get a huge portion for the price. He had the chicken and biscuit skillet thing. And a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. He said both were really amazing. Extremely hot-but good. I ordered the Caesar salad and baked potato soup. The salad...wasn't the best. Was mainly the worst part of the romaine hearts..the inside flavourless part, the dressing wasn't good and there wasn't much of it. I wouldn't call this a Caesar at all. The Parmesan crisps in it were really good. It was edible but I've had better. The soup-absolutely amazing. Probably the best baked potato soup I've ever had. Nice and thick and had loads of toppings. Didn't care for the bread it was served with at all. It was a really odd combination. Thin,crispy bread with seeds on it. Like I'm not a bird, and it's not even good for dipping. Didn't do anything for me. Overall- a really good choice. Expensive as all get out. But good read more

Seriously, someone gave this place five stars? There are some restaurants where you can say the service is good and the food is bad or vice versa - this is the place where you can get bad on both counts. On a night when it was half full it took almost two hours to get our food which were very small portions and extremely over-cooked. Resort prices and food devoid of flavor. read more

We were not very hungry when we came but expected more. We read somewhere that this place served sandwiches but that must be at the bar downstairs. Anyways, we did not get an appetizer but went with the loaded baked potato soup (two cups and a bowl), Caeser salad, and a kids hot dog with fruit. The biscuits and bird seed crackers came out with the meal instead of before. The biscuits were not tasty at all; they look like the ones you get at Red Lobster but the similarities end there. The butter had no taste at all according to my resident family butter connoisseur which I also call my wife. The Caeser salad was good with the cheese they put on it but nothing special. The hot dog was just meat and bread with fruit which is a typical kids meal for my youngest, 6, at a place like this. The hot dog had two bites taken out and the fruit (strawberry, grapes, pineapple, Honey dew, cantlope) was all eaten between our two kids. My oldest, 9, ordered a cup of loaded baked potato soup and she was brought a bowl; I never checked to see if we were charged for a cup or a bowl...assuming a bowl. The soup was not tasty at all. My wife ate the rest of the hot dog. The price for these "snacks" was what we would've spent for a full dinner at any normal chain restaurant which we would've actually eaten. The rest of the menu looked good but we were glad we didn't order those since the cheaper soup we ordered was not eaten. This has been the theme this weekend with the food here at Big Cedar.
