Fun, great food, and service. A perfect location in downtown Dexter. The upstairs is ideal for a party.

Hadn't been to Dexter in years. Our friend suggested we do dinner at Dexter Pub on a Monday night at 5:00 pm. The place looked a little brighter than I remember. Some of the space for tables had been given up to position a waiter station at the end of the bar. Glasses on shelves, other things that must be grabbed quickly. There were 6 or 7 waiters / other staff going back and forth behind the bar and 5 tables of diners. My friend sat at the bar to order carryout. After five minutes, someone brought her a menu. I had viewed the menu online and had already texted my friend our order before I arrived ten minutes later. After I had been there about three minutes, someone came to take our orders. Well, I tried to speed up the process ... but it was not to be. My friend and I had plenty of time to chat at the bar while we waited for the food. At least that was pleasant. (That means the service was s-l-o-w.) So we get our order and go to the park for a picnic and you know what? NO EATING UTENSILS OR NAPKINS! Rather than walk all the way back, we chose to eat our salads with our bare hands - "like heathen," said my friend - and wash our hands with our water glasses. At least hubby had ordered fish and chips, which were easier to eat with bare hands and no napkins. The food was actually very tasty. I got the Chicken Club Salad. The chicken was tender yet had that grilled-over-flames taste, with no hard spots from being nuked to thaw it. The lettuce was fresh and crunchy. The diced tomatoes did not have any off flavor, and the chewy real bacon bits and grated cheddar added awesome flavor. The balsamic vinaigrette was made by reducing the vinegar first. A very nice bit of attention that paid off well. My friend got the Signature Sirloin Salad with steak and thin onion ring "strings." She said her salad was also very good. Hubby said the battered cod was meh but his small side salad was really good. Can't understand how so many people could look so busy without being bothered to help us but the food was good enough to make me willing to give it another go. read more

Really irritated by the owner. I ordered food but when it came out it was not what I expected, did not touch it, and the waitress who was still standing at our table offered to take it back. A minute later the owner came, with the nastiest attitute ever. He was mean, unprofessional and from the way he was talking to me I understood what type of person he was. Despising costumers and looking down at them is not acceptable . Bottom line, I would never go back to the Dexter Pub again nor I would recommend it to anyone. I would give ZERO star if I had the option to. read more

Do not order the potato skins, horrible. Ribs are not good either. I have been very disappointed with the food at this place.

Quick trip to a couple cider mills had us stopping for dinner at the Dexter Pub. The Frickles - THE BEST!!! The breading was perfect! Nachos with pulled pork were killer and BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger was cooked just right. Our server was polite, helpful and the only one serving the upstairs. Yet, she never made us feel like we were a bother. Great job Dexter Pub!!! read more

Sometimes the food is good. Sometimes it's not. The same wth the service. Hot water costs $2!!! Owner rules. I guess the owner likes to gyp customers. Reuben is good but the bread is soggy. Sweet potato fries are good. Blue cheese dressing is watery. read more

The Dexter Pub is a quaint, accessible and clean dive in downtown Dexter. We went around 8:30p on a Saturday night and it was reasonably busy, but not overcrowded; we were served quickly. The food was good. We ordered the frickles (fried dill pickles), a cheese fondu, and a baked potato between us. The fondu coagulated quickly and became difficult to spread. The frickles were delicious! The potato was fine. I like it, but it's not particularly spectacular. read more

Sad to report this place has really slipped since we started coming here. Yesterday's visit was less than stellar. My club sandwich, while generously portioned, was constructed of mediocre ingredients. TONS of turkey but it was kind of meh deli meat, the bacon was thick cut but not very flavorful. The fries were pretty good but lacking in salt. Easy enough to add but still. The other dishes at the table weren't much better. My fella got the berry salad and he was disappointed that there were so few berries. My grandma ordered the fish and chips and it came with a baked potato instead of fries. They were really quick about bringing the replacement fries but it was just kind of weird. The fish was pretty good, though. I will give them that! The servers are very nice and I still dig the atmosphere. It's just a bummer the food doesn't really live up anymore. read more

Always the nicest folks here. Enjoyed a great steak, cooked perfect to order and seasoned just right. Whether at the bar, a table or out on the sidewalk out front, the Dexter Pub is like an old friend that's always happy to see you. So far such a magical wonderful happy experience here and the upper part of Michigan there's a lot of angry drivers here yesterday went into two restaurants in the morning very negative vibe yesterday today's different. I think the owner maybe his name is Peter started this bought it in 84 the bar is been here forever I feel like I'm in the big fish movie if I had time I could stay here for a while. Welp...waited over an hour to receive a salad with literally raw salmon on it. They apologized, took the salad off the bill, then whined that they were short staffed, had a large party upstairs, etc. Should have comped our two drinks and my husband's salad as well and they may have retained our business. Also served the stalest of stale bread with frozen butter. Don't waste your time here. read more

I am a lover of a good hometown pub. Dexter's Pub did not leave us disappointed! Definitely above average for pub food. We started with baked asiago. Oil, delicious cheese, and bread - how can you go wrong? For an entree, I had the sirloin salad & husband had the mac & cheese with smoked brisket. Salad was fresh, steak was slightly overcooked but flavorful, and it was huge! I brought half home. Have to admit though, the mac & brisket was much better! If you can look beyond the calories, it's well worth every bite! Above all else, it was amazing service! Waiter was so attentive and food and drinks came out quickly. This place is a solid 3-star joint. It's pub food with a very friendly and helpful server. The fries were not that great but the salmon sandwich was pretty tasty. The environment was a bit dark, but overall very much like what you expect from a pub. Overall decent place to go if you're in the area. read more

Stopped in for a late dinner (Friday 8:00ish) together with two friends. We were able to get a table right away - they were "just the right amount of busy". Had beer #1 in hand within of sitting down - a definite plus in my book. Service was quite good. We all ended up ordering burnt ends. Everything was tasty.....as expected. I was rather disappointed that the portion sizes have changed and the quality has changed as well. I paid $15 for 1 cup of pulled pork, slice of cornbread, 3TBSP of cole slaw and 10 French fries. I asked for extra sauce on top of my pulled pork and got one "squirt" wait staff was nice but the new portions left me very disappointed . I did not know that 3 cheap carbs and one cup of pulled pork would cost me $15 bucks. read more

All around terrible service. It took us almost 3 hours to get in and out. Once we were seated, it took 10 minutes to even be greeted. Our appetizer came out with our food, which was cold and way over priced. We also ordered a beer during happy hour and still got charged full price and the owner still refused to change it on the bill. Consistently good food and service. They have a very diverse menu of food and drinks. Of all the local restaurants in the Dexter area this one stands out. We have family who live in Dexter, and when in town prefer this restaurant. Small by normal standards, but give it a try. They have an upstairs area as well for overflow. read more

We've been coming here regularly for a few months now. The big draw? Their buffalo wings. They are crispy and spicy, and not breaded. I am not a fan of breaded wings, and these are done just the way I like them. I recently had a bowl of chili, fully loaded, and it was delicious! Their half order of nachos are big enough for two, and so good! They have a decent beer selection, too! This place is family friendly, and they do a Sunday evening deal, when kids eat free with an adult meal purchase. The one downside is the upstairs. It looks and feels like a mediocre chain restaurant up there. The downstairs is dark, divey and so much better. read more

My family loves Dexter Pub! Great variety of food to choose from. They also have great specials that have never been a disappointment. If you like to try new cocktails, they offer seasonal specials that are worth trying. We have also ordered takeout food from them and they are generous portions and the order consistently is correct. read more

I got the confit chicken platter and it was fantastic! The meat was moist, and the corn tortillas were warm and honestly the whole thing was excellent. Our waitress was kind and attentive. And they use local farmers for many of their meats and produce! read more

We have been to Dexter's Pub several times and had excellent service every time. We like the cinnamon butter that they give you with the bread they bring to the table. I like the Pub Club sandwich. Rather than another piece of bread in the middle they put more turkey on it. The BBQ Bacon Cheddar burger and the Chicken Club Salad were tasty too. Both were very generous. "Meh." just about hits the nail on the head. Not to sound like a broken record here, but as other reviews mentioned: if you're looking for even remotely healthy options, this ain't your joint. The decor is cookie cutter, bland, sterile "New American Pub". We were seated upstairs in a room that reminded me of the many large birthday parties I attended as a little kid--lots of space, big tables, several big screen TVs and no character. I think the cinnamon butter with the bread is weird and they give you just an ungodly amount. I'm sure kids love it, but they don't need another reason to love slathering butter on everything. My husband paid $13 for goulash that he didn't enjoy, but we both thought the clam chowder was above average. I had the chicken fajita wrap and it was pretty decent with good flavor. The guacamole was also surprisingly good with a nice amount of heat. Our server was very nice and did a good job! That being said, I think our food took over half an hour to arrive and prices for everything seem steep. All in all, I don't see myself driving to Dexter for food like this when I can go to Casey's in Ann Arbor that delivers the same concept in a much better atmosphere and with much better food and prices. read more

It's been a long time since I've been to the Dexter Pub. We recently purchased a discount certificate for the Dexter Pub and were passing by it on the way home from Chelsea so we decided to give it a shot. Our meal was very surprising. While the downstairs of the Pub is just that.. a pub, the upstairs looks like a small restaurant. They have a large selection of beers on tap and bottles as you would expect but the strange things is... the food was very good. I ordered the prime rib and was amazed at the size and flavor of the cut. Since I'm trying to cut back just a bit, I changed my order from baked potato to "double" vegetables, and they pleasantly complied. The julienned vegetables we a perfect accompaniment to the huge hunk of meat. My wife had the fettuccine chicken Alfredo, whey was a butter filled delight, with a great combination of flavors. We both enjoyed our meals immensely and also enjoyed some of the great beers that are on tap. I'm looking forward to returning here. read more

I can't really complain about the Dexter Pub. I have visited maybe five times and my meal has always been pretty good. When they have the seafood Mac and cheese it is delicious. Burgers are pretty good, salads are good... I think the prices are fair. But I can't say that this place blows me away. One issue is that the seating upstairs is awkward - it gets very hot in the summer - probably poorly insulated. The tables are just set up oddly. It works well for a large party but you get that whole phenomenon where you feel like you're at a table with other people... when you're just at a "two-top"... because tables are side by side. Anyway, we pretty much end up here when Aubree's and Red Brick are full and are usually okay with it. They do support local teams and such, which I appreciate. read more

I think this place should definitely get higher than 3-1/2 stars. My fiancé and I tried out Dexters Pub for the first time. I have been here many, many years ago, but this was my first time back since hen and my fiancé's first time there. We arrived during happy hour on a Friday evening. The place was packed, but we were able to sit at the bar and eat. Their regular menu looked good, but we both opted for a couple of the specials. I ordered the burnt ends with mashed red skins and coleslaw and he ordered the grouper, also with mashed redskins, but a vegetable medley of carrots and green beans (and not from a can!). The food was Excellent!! Five stars for the food! The only reason we gave it four stars was because our food didn't come out together. There was about a 5-8 minute lag between our two meals, which we thought was kind of ridiculous, but honestly, it was worth the wait. We will definitely be back. Update: returned to this place today (on a Wednesday) and they had their standing TexMex special menu along with their regular menu. We arrive around 5:45. Service was EXCELLENT and the food was OUTSTANDING! I can't figure out how this place doesn't have more stars. We split the carnitas platter and a Caesar salad. All food was excellent. This place has become our favorite new find. read more

My husband, son, and I popped into the pub the other day on our way through town. It's a little dingy looking from the outside...and the inside...but the people there are super nice. We ordered a veggie pizza (minus the feta) and it was soooo yummy! My son was able to get a cup of milke with a top and a straw and he got crayons and stuff to color on. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon during our motorcycle ride. Super friendly waitress gave us some recommendations (big salad, smoked pork and brisket, good burgers) and we picked the Santa Fe salad which was perfect and fed both of us! This pub has great food. However with my raw onion and garlic allergies, I sometimes need to have things prepared separately. Many restaurants work with me and figure out ways to be helpful. Anytime that I have asked at the pub, they are unwilling to help me out. I end up repeatedly ordering the one and only dish I enjoy that doesn't interfere with my needs, Grilled Asparagus Salad with salmon or chicken (low carb so sandwiches are a bust). That certainly gets a little boring. I am not sure why they don't care to be accommodating. I am to the point of having to stop asking because all they do is disappoint me which results in difficultly enjoying the meal that I can eat. If I could eat more of their creations, I know they'd earn more stars. Their chocolate bomb cake is delicious! read more

Get the pizza! This is a great little spot...perfect as a pub. But we were in the mood for pizza, so we got the Pub Special and were so pleasantly surprised. We stopped in last night to try this joint for the first time. The hostess told us we'd need to sit upstairs. Okay. UP THE STAIRS is absolutely keerect. One long flight of narrow steps. I don't know how they meet the Building Code. My Wife had the Salmon "Special" for $16.99. She said it was good but the trimmings were meager. I opted for the Cheese Seafood & Macaroni "Special" and it really wasn't........."Special", that is........it was so-so. It was described to have "lump" Crab but it actually contained "fake" Crab. It had three Shrimp some pasta in a thin cheese sauce with a few bread crumbs on top. The pasta was said to be from some Italian place and touted as if it was "Omigosh!" special. After using the Men's Room (Warning: The door opens to fully expose a person using the urinal), there were no paper towels left in the dispenser. I informed a young gal about this as I left. Pretty good food. French Dip is always delicious here. Not spectacular, but if you want a low key dinner with a good wait staff and a fair menu, Dexter Pub is good! It is sometimes overly crowded, and their setup is not conducive to lines of waiting people. Maybe stay away on Friday nights? read more

I love Dexters Pub. It is a great place to pop in with our son for lunch anytime and feel welcome. The food is always good and a great variety for our family. My favorite these days is the BLT salad with Chicken. Delish! My only complaint is that a restaurant/bar should not have carpet...ever. It makes the entire place look dirty.....that would be my recommendation to the owner..... Other than that, my hubby loves the different beers you have to offer and the new tappings every week. read more
