There are tons of bakeries in Vegas now but I always come back to this one since it's my childhood bakery and their treats have always been consistently good. Although it hasn't changed much since I was a kid, they have definitely raised their prices (which i don't really mind, everything is expensive these days). This Chinese bakery hands down has some of the best 叉烧包 (char siu bao aka pork buns). There's tons of other savory items to enjoy as well like their mini chicken pies (so delicious and flaky) and Japanese hot dogs. I usually come here for a quick snack and grab a red bean sesame ball and a coke from their fridge. Now if you have a sweet tooth, they offer custom cakes for any occasion as well as classics like macarons, fruit tarts, tiramisu cakes and many more. 3.5 stars Love love love their vanilla roll. I think this place makes it the best. It's almost 7 bucks so its not cheap but it can easily last a good week if you didn't share. My friends and I randomly came upon this after eating nearby. Its located in the Chinatown Plaza of Las Vegas. It is located in a quiet surrounding which was a bit sketch but it was a great decision! We grabbed a tray and stocked up on a lot of their baked goods! We got a wide variety of goods ranging from the hot dog bun, sponge cake, pineapple custard bun, pork buns, and more. The prices here are definitely more pricier than it is back where I am from. There wasn't much business within the actual bakery, so I was kind of expecting the goods to be bad, but the buns aren't that bad at all! My friends and I ended up stopping by again to stock up on more baked goods for our road trip to Cali! There is a minimum charge to be able to use your credit card. First of all this bakery deserves more stars. I was first hesitant to come here and preferred to go to a bakery at the next retail complex as it has better reviews on Yelp. However, after I got to that bakery, there were not many things to choose from and nothing was either warm or fresh. So reluctantly I followed my husband to Diamond Bakery instead. TLDR- I ordered a birthday cake, they got the order wrong, and the staff actively said they wouldn't do anything about it. I ordered a mango mousse cake for my brother's birthday. After driving all the way from north Las Vegas to pick it up, I received a cake with a plain whipped cream frosting and fruit on top--absolutely nothing like what I ordered. The frosting was sickly sweet, the cake was dry, and the fruit was either canned or severely underripe. When I called to tell them they had placed the wrong order, they claimed I had ordered the wrong cake on the phone. I am sure I placed the order correctly because I order this cake every year. Diamond Bakery is my go-to for Asian cakes for birthdays and holidays. I've been going here for as long as I can remember! Don't expect your cakes to be beautifully decorated, though. Even the frosting around the cake will be very imperfect. But it's fine if you don't look too closely. Service is iffy at times. From the first bite I took of their Chinese style baked goods I knew I'd return despite having to walk several miles to and from my hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. In the world of Chinese bakeries I think Diamond Bakery is pretty darn good and very much comparable to one of my San Francisco Bay Area favorites Sheng Kee Bakery. Surprisingly I had very little soreness from running in the Rock n Roll Las Vegas 1/2 Marathon just about a dozen hours earlier on Sunday night, and since I considered this a vacation I definitely wasn't about to sit around in or near my hotel like a couple of my friends decided to do. A long, leisurely walk was in order so I chose Chinatown having never really explored the area before. After an exploratory visit inside a Ranch 99 Asian supermarket yielded zero results as far as finding something to snack on I came upon the Diamond Bakery and a nice 4 star rating on Yelp. Yelp friend Matt G and the Las Vegas Yelpers' rating did not disappoint as I gathered an arm full of individually wrapped pastries to take with me on my walking journey. Everything I tried during my walk I liked from the Baked BBQ Pork Buns to the Chinese Rice Tamales to the Pineapple Buns, and by the time I returned to my room I still had food left over. Located in the Old Chinatown Plaza approximately 5 driving minutes away from the strip, I feel like home now when I ran into this bakery for a quick breakfast before my own work related project. They have the popular Chinese pastries and other desserts. Some of the pastries are self-serve and wrapped up in a package similiar to Sheng Kee. The bakery also have sweets and customized cakes too. Their tiramisu is too sweet for my tastes. Not the worst that I've had but far, far from the best. Here are the other negatives: * $10 minimum on credit/debit orders (blah) * the buns are made with enriched flour. That's not uncommon but it is a pain because I am allergic, so I can't eat any of the wheat-based items. So, on aggregate, I'd say this is not one of the better bakeries in the area. Large shop just outside the Chinatown mall- the staff speak limited English, but most items are clearly labeled so you can find what you need. The heated buns (bbq pork, etc) are at the counter, FYI. I found the savory options to be better-tasting and better-executed than the sweet ones, but that may just be a personal preference. STANDOUTS: Chicken pie (it's like a chicken pot pie, in biscuit form, with lots of juicy dark meat chicken!) and Portuguese egg tarts (thick crust keeps the eggy custard safe even if you're grabbing to go!). Large in size and far less cluttered than most, the pastry case to the left with bagged goods on the right, the selection at Diamond rivals the layout with no less than sixty different options on offer, a notable lack of overlap in ingredients with selections reportedly changing day to day. Based out of California, but offering several hot items and cakes baked on site, it was after much browsing and several questions that an order was elected and with eight items bagged to enjoy at a table outside the $20.33 tab was comprised almost 1/3 by the ornate moon cake, the dense red bean paste just barely sweetened around the hard cooked egg yolk while two styles of egg tarts were each equally low on sugar, instead opting to let the buttery shell and more savory custard notes shine. Moving on to bread pudding, a dish that simply cannot be passed up wherever it might be found, suffice it to say that the raisin-studded block was a bit too cool to be enjoyed straight from the cooler, and even when warmed up later neither the texture nor flavor was particularly up to snuff. Put off by the bitterness of date paste that was unfortunately rendered a bit gritty by too much ground walnut amidst the fruit, the goods once again found footing in a trio of supple breads, the 'black egg' version a truly one-of-a-kind flavor marrying sweetness to funkiness and soy sauce while both the yam bun and "3-combo" featured all sorts of fluffiness with a variety of natural flavors packing the core. Went in here today looking for pork buns. I waited in line and when I got up to the front I asked if they had any pork buns or bao. Apparently I look like an ax murderer because the girl behind the counter was practically trying to get away as she said that they didn't make them. When in today Monday 1/9/23 at about 1145am. Once I walked in, I read a sign saying buns at 1030 am so I was excited that they still had more in the case and I was assuming it was fresh since it was only 1 hour from arriving. I ordered 10 and I should've notice that they weren't fresh since they looked all flat and not puffy like how I used to buy it. I figured I eat one in the car while I take off. I have been buying my birthday cake here for many years since I was 4 years old, as well as other cakes and pastries. However, my all time favorite is their strawberry cake. It's honestly the best strawberry cake I've had in Las Vegas and in my life (born and raised in Las Vegas btw). For some reason the strawberry cake they make his very moist and fluffy. The counters were pretty bare in the afternoon and I walked out empty handed. Then, for whatever reason, we stopped by this place at 10:20 am. I was shocked. They had Portuguese Egg Tarts (a Macau specialty - egg tarts with a golden brown topping from the extra sugar), Curry beef puffs, butter pan loaves, Taiwanese type sammys, rice dumplings. It was like a completely different store. The Portuguese Egg Tarts are okay. I find the filling to be nice, but there are problems with the pastry. Not quite the shortbread crust, it's kind of a hybrid of between the flaky and cookie crust. The curry beef puff is good. The puff pastry is flaky and light while the curried beef is flavourful. The bbq pork puff pastry was ok due to the lackluster bbq pork filling. If baked buns are your thing, there is a caveat. I would say that the bun is a little on the drier side - okay when fresh but isn't that good the next day. For the buns without filling (ie, pineapple buns), you might find yourself a little disappointed. That being said, if you are a filling kind of person, you'll love this bakery because of the copious amounts of filling in their red bean and lotus paste buns. The steamed buns are great and hold up better (I've refrigerated them and resteamed them the next day and it's good.). Fav are the red bean steamed bun - lots of filling, nice lighter texture than what you normally see. I love the Diamond Bakery in LA Rowland Heights but this branch in Vegas is nowhere as good. The buns were still decent and they were probably the only items I could recommend getting. Had the BBQ pork, chicken, pineapple, ham/cheese and ham/egg varieties and they were all quite good. Texture is chewy and the fillings were tasty. You can't go wrong with that. However, the traditional Chinese pastries were really disappointing. The Taiwanese suncake was not fluffy and flakery at all. The green bean pasty tasted very mellow and the filling were rather dry. Each was around $1.50 and was pretty good. First place I've found homemade bigger sized manapua since the manapua shop on flamingo closed years ago. The round chocolate cake I ordered for my friend's birthday was one of worst cake I ever had in my life. I was so embarrassed watching my friends struggling to pretend that they liked cake. The cake was old, probably the same one I saw when I put in the order the day before. The cake tasted like the sponge I use to wash my dishes, except my sponge is softer. The icing was like pure powder sugar, it was grainy and oily. Last but not the least, they used this transparent pink color icing to write the name on top of the cake which was so idiotic. Hands down best freshly steamed Chinese BBQ pork buns in Vegas. And their size is huge!! It can barely fit in my hand. I was lucky to have bought a fresh batch that just came from the kitchen and the staff was busy packaging them. Yummy!! For the price of $1.99 each it was worth it. Yummy stuffed buns, manapua as we call it back in Hawaii. We stopped in with visiting family to check it out and there were plenty, just freshly made sitting on the shelves. The buns were fluffy and soft, the inside meat, the char siu filling was actually flavored like the ones we get in Hawaii. The pork was shredded and not chunks like we seen in other stores in Vegas, and the my favorite the baked ones were spot on as well. The sun biscuit I had was huge (the size of my face), but the interior of the biscuit didn't quite taste like the sun biscuits I am used to. The buo luo bao did not look that appetizing.
