My boyfriend and I thought we'd found a new go-to spot for dim sum--the food was decent enough to give us hope. We had dined in and ordered take-out on a few occasions. On our last take-out order, we discovered after we got home that four items were missing: a hot and sour soup, vegetables, and a couple of dim sum dishes. We called the restaurant immediately, provided every bit of information they asked for, and requested a refund since we had no intention of driving all the way back to Chinatown for their error. The person on the phone admitted the mistake and assured us we'd receive a refund. A full week passed--of course, no refund. When my boyfriend called again, they suddenly claimed they had no record of our call or our refund request. The way the restaurant handled their own mistake was nothing short of egregious--and it should go without saying that we won't be returning. They can consider the missing $40 a generous parting gift. read more

Quick and fast service and got seated. They gave us a check off menu where you choose the food you want and mark it off on the menu. Sadly, there is no push carts but this is a nice way to serve off as well. We ordered the most common dishes that most people would order to eat and overall, all the dishes were pretty flavorful and tasty. Besides, one dish which was the Siu Mai. The flavors are all there but the main thing was the pork itself because it's very easy to fall apart which was disappointing. Overall, flavor is . Service is great. I came in with low expectations because most dim sum places have been lacking in quality but this place surpassed my expectations. before they were even open at 10am, there was already a line outside waiting. this told me the food had to be good and I was right. the rice noodle was so fresh and not too sticky, this meant that they made it in house and steamed it to the perfect time. we also ordered the fried crispy crab ball, egg tart, pineapple bun, siu mai, spare ribs and chicken feet. everything we ordered was up to par. One of the fancier dim sum restaurants I've been to and looks like it'd be a great spot to host a wedding banquet or big party. You order on a tablet at the table and they bring the food out pretty quickly. The menu is extensive but everything has photos and you can add on more things throughout the meal. Also if you go with a large group, people can scan the QR code with their phone and add items to the same tab easily. It was a very smooth ordering process but definitely double check to make sure people aren't accidentally ordering multiples of the same dish. Everything was hot and fresh and all the fried items were nice and crispy. The youtiao presentation was unlike anything I've seen before and completely unnecessary but memorable for sure. They charge $2 per person for tea but free refills. This is probably the best dimsum restaurant I've tried in Seattle. read more

This place is decent for dim sum. Nice interior and the staff are attentive. We got to the restaurant before 11am on a Sunday and beat the rush. They sat us real quick and you order as soon as you sit down and the items come out real fast. You order off a tablet and you send the order to the kitchen when ready. They bring a receipt of all the items you ordered and they check the items off as they come. The only bad thing is the menu is in Chinese so like me, you may order something you didn't want. I thought the picture was of tendon but it was chicken feet. Luckily the chicken feet weren't bad. I prefer the cart style dim sum experience better. Was not a long wait to get a table for 5 on a Saturday during brunch hours, big plus! It's a really spacious dining area and the food came out quickly. Big bonus that they have their own small parking lot. Overall the food was really fresh and tasty. Some dishes are done better at other restaurants, but overall my family and I really enjoyed it. This place was terribly hard to get into on its second opening day, so I came with a party of 3 to eat at a Tuesday for lunch sometime after that day. Very fancy inside with a huge TV screen at the front and a bunch of nice lighting and lit-up photo frames around. This is one of many places that do dim sum without the carts, and you instead put down what you want and how many on a piece of paper. We got shu mai, tripe, beancurd skin, pan-fried pork buns, shrimp stuffed eggplant, fried dough rice rolls, salted egg yolk rice rolls and HK egg tarts. Most things were just all right, though I liked how the egg tarts had a flaky crust and were appropriately sweet. The pan-fried pork bun were a plus in that the inside tasted very fresh and the filling didn't make the inside too soggy. The fried dough rice rolls (and at the same time the salted egg yolk rice rolls) were off in that their noodle wrappings came apart way too easily when picking them up. Service was still really fast here regardless. Not sure if I'd come back here again for dim sum, though. There are other places in Chinatown like Honey Court and Jade Garden that I'd prefer over here in terms of quality and even price. read more

On our first visit on grand opening week, we arrived at 10 am opening and were fortunate enough to get one of the last large tables for 10 people. After looking over the menu and indicating our choices, we handed our order to one of the servers. We got our two roast meats immediately, but it wasn't until 40 minutes later or more until the rest of our order came out. One of the servers checked on our order and found a glitch in their system and our order did not go through the first time. Let me just say regarding ordering, I prefer to order choice items to sample when I'm trying a new place for the first time. Other family members got a hold of the menu first, so it was out of my control. Suffice it to say, a sh-ton of dim sum was ordered and it came out rapid fire! We had to consolidate a lot of our dim sum items to make room, hence the scattered photos. Of the items we ordered, the standouts were the pan fried noodle dish, salty egg yolk bun and the BBQ pork pastry. The Hom Sui Gok aka football was quite doughy. We had to wait until 11 am to order any items from the kitchen, including noodle and vegetable dishes. Harbor City and Hong Kong Bistro are my dim sum favorites in CID. I took my mom here on the week day to try out their dim sum and Peking duck . Overall, I think the dim sum was okay and the price for the dim sum is reasonable . However, they asked if we wanted hot tea and we said we wanted two sodas instead but they still brought out hot tea and charge us 2 dollar per person for it . When I told the waiter that we didn't want hot tea ... his response was "oh everybody has to get hot tea and the charge is there whether you drink it or not " -_- We also ordered the Peking duck ($59) to go and when I got home I was really disappointed. For 59 dollars I expect it to be the whole duck but it did not look like a whole duck at all . It came with 9 buns, sauce, cucumbers and green onions . The service was okay . THE BIG: Located in the international district of Seattle. This place is gigantic with tons of seating and the typical over the top decor that sets apart dim sum places. Street parking is available with a tiny private lot to the right side of the building THE BLACK AND WHITE: Lots of negative reviews but to be honest, it's pretty good. There's no carts that zoom around, everything is ordered a la carte. Took my mom and dad here who are OG cantonese and they criticize everything. They actually liked the food here if that counts for anything. We got the normal hitters like chicken feet, sesame balls, har gow, cheong fun, spare ribs and of course the beef chow fun. My parents always order beef chow fun at every dim sum place to judge whether the cooks are skilled. It shouldn't be a gravy but dry fried aka wok hei that is emblematic of cantonese style cooking. AND they liked it. It is a big place and some of the waiters were struggling to get orders down, but I guess that's the ramp up of staff. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done was around $90 for all the dim sum and beef chow fun. Great place to try some authentic cantonese style dim sum. read more

Visited on Labor Day for dinner and the place seemed pretty understaffed for how many people were there. The food was okay. There were some things that I thought were not worth the price. The surf clams were pretty expensive and mostly vegetables over clams. The stir fried eggplant I thought was pretty flavorless but everything else felt standard. Nothing stood out really. I'm willing to give the service a pass since it was a holiday but there were times where the staff felt a little lost. I think that's expected for a new restaurant with new staff. We did have a waitress forget to tell us that they ran out of clams for the stir fried clams and we were waiting a while for it to the point that we had to ask where it was. I think that part was a little unacceptable. I'm willing to give this place another try one day but I was a little disappointed. read more

The decor reminds me of Richmond. White tables, banquet style seating, and long ish lines on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I've eaten here a couple of times and once in the upstairs private dining area. The view is kinda unappetizing because it looks down into a demolished building with sewer water and disposed Lime bikes. There's something about this new style of made to order service that is exceptional. It's a similar Dough Zone and Din Tai Fung model in which everything is expertly timed so that food comes out. The dim sum is standard. You have your typical ha gao, shu mai, taro buns, char siu buns and dan tat. I don't think anything particularly stands out to me culinary wise. The only thing that really jumped out was the chow fun. I ordered it wet and the beef was really tenderized and flavorful. Service is a little chaotic. Waters were never refilled and I had to track down a server multiple times to pay. The food menu is also confusing because there are no pictures. I ordered a chicken sticky rice and it was pork. Traditionally, the no ma gai is pork. I hope these minor critiques and compliments can help this business out. I've enjoyed eating here and with those minor adjustments I would give it a 4 stars. This is for all of those dim sum lovers out there. Dim sum is a weekly tradition for us, and when one of our friends, who lives for dim sum told us to check out this new spot in ID, we had to see what the hype was about. Honestly, I don't get the low review ratings on here. They have only been open about four months, and we had a very solid experience. For context, Hong Kong Bistro and Jade are our go-to dim sum spots. But we were genuinely shocked to find that this place does some of our favorite dishes better. We went for lunch on Sunday probably the worst time to attempt dim sum without a reservation. My husband was told there was a space on the 2nd floor available immediately, otherwise, it would've been over an hour wait since they were packed and prepping for a buyout. We opted for the 2nd door and honestly, it was a win. It's bright, super clean, fresh feeling, clearly renovated, and way quieter than the chaos on the main floor. The service? Amazing. The servers were so sweet and accommodating (even with my husband's habit of a million questions and ordering off-menu and tweaking dishes). A majority of our food came out within 10 minutes of sitting down, which was impressive considering how busy they were. Now for the food, everything we ordered was excellent, but standouts were the garlic gai lan, shrimp and chive dumplings, beef rice rolls, char siu bao, and the spicy beef fried rice noodles. The star of the show, though, was the dan tat. Hands down the best we've had outside of Hong Kong. The server explained they mix in some kind of sweetened condensed milk, so it's creamier and sweeter, and the crust was perfectly flaky. We'll be dreaming about those for a while. Parking-wise, they have a small lot next to the building and then across the street, but there's plenty of street parking and nearby lots. Sunday street parking is free, but let's be real this is the ID, so I always go in expecting to pay for a lot spot. If you're not about that, just Uber. Overall, we're adding this spot to our rotation and will be back with a bigger group so we can try more things! read more

Dim sum review What is up with all the low ratings for this place? Diamond Bay Restaurant is big, sparkly, clean, and new. The dim sum prices are comparable at maybe a wee bit more, the same, or even lower than places I know. The portion sizes and quality were up to snuff. The wait staff literally ran to our table when we made eye contact. Bonus that they speak Cantonese. The food arrived piping hot, maybe too quickly for the dessert items. Other than loyalty to the smaller places, I see no reason why I would not return. Reading some of the 1-star reviews, one person didn't know they went into the attached BBQ eatery instead of the restaurant. Another person is not familiar with the fried dome rice noodle dish, calling it dry, that has been served for literally decades at restaurants. It is cra-cra to point fingers at the restaurant. This place is a 4+ Stars for me. I am rounding up to a 5 Stars to even out the unfairness. Tea service is normal at $2 per person. Since this is my first visit, I chose baseline dishes to better judge a place as well as their most unusual sounding dim sum items. Their dim sum offerings are surprisingly basic. I heard the investors might be from Canada, and I was hoping for more Hong Kong-esque or Richmond BC type of unique dishes. The Food: Shrimp Dumplings or Ha Gow, $6.85 - 4 Stars The quintessential of dim sum family. I thought it was good, but the surface is oddly wet. Hubby thought it could be plumper. Flavor wise, we both thought it was good. Siu Mai, $6.85 - 4.5 Stars Their version has pork and shrimp with tobiko on top. Many measure a dim sum place using siu mai instead of ha gow. Theirs is plump, well-seasoned and visually on-point. I'll ignore one piece where the tobiko tried to make a run for it. Char Siu Bao, $6.75 - 4.5 Stars The char siu bao is my family's measure of greatness growing up, over ha gow or siu mai. Always tear one into two halves and study the insides to determine if the pork is the fat or the filling to dough ratio is too low before taking the first bite. Hmm, very satisfying. The price is a bit higher for this dish. Would be a solid 5 stars otherwise. Shrimp Rice Roll, $6.85 - 4 Stars The thickness of a rice roll defines the artistry of the maker. Keeping it thin without breaking the rice sheet is the key. The roll should have just enough transparency to clearly see the contents. Theirs is a bit thick but acceptable. The flavor is good. Shrimp Stuffed Eggplant, $6.85 - 4 Stars This is one of our favorite 'fried' dim sum dishes. Theirs is cut unevenly and brought to our table looking like the photo. Sloppy. Dim sum literally means a touch of heart, and this presentation is missing heart. Taste wise, it is on point. Cost wise, this is actually less than a few places I know. I am keeping the rating at 4 stars because of cost. Pan Fried Chive Dumpling, $7.25 - 5 Stars This is my favorite pan-fried dim sum. Theirs is well stuff with shrimp and chives. The flavor is excellent. Purple Sweet Potato Lava Ball (3 pieces), $6.85 - 4.5 Stars This is one of their more creative dishes using purple yam (ubi for some of you) and salted yolk lava in the typically classic sesame ball shell. A good variation and a valid justification for the higher price. Comes in 3 pieces, two in my photo. Bolo Bao Custard Bun, $6.25 - 3.5 Stars Similar to the shrimp stuffed eggplant, this dish lacked the "heart" of dim sum. The rightmost piece is lopsidedly too large while the right most piece was formed incorrectly, including the shell, ditto with the middle piece. The kitchen staff needs more oversight. Flavor wise, it was on point including the custard in the middle. Osmanthus Cake, $4.75 - 3.5 Stars This is one of the more unusual dishes on the menu. I tend to look for these jelly cakes as they are very refreshing to end a dim sum meal. Their version is flavorful with the osmanthus and goji berries. BUT, they haven't accurately dialed in on their gelatin or whatever thickening agent so that it breaks apart too easily. Thumbs up on flavor but needs finetuning. read more
