Solid dim sum spot! My fav thing is def that you can order by piece although I will say not everything is by piece. We thought the rice rolls were, but they have 3 per order! Like the Food Walk itself, this place gets very crowded during peak lunch hours when they're open; every seat was taken and everyone else - myself included - got our goodies for takeout. You pay depending on how much you get; for example, one piece of siu mai is $1.30 each as of this writing. All other food items follow in a similar suit. We got the following: - Egg tart: my favorites though they have cookie crusts. I do prefer flaky crusts but the egg yolk has the right amount of sweet to balance the crust. - Siu mai: fresh and piping hot. Meat was also fresh and didn't have a weird aftertaste. - Green onion bun: each one is pretty big, and there's just enough green onions on them to distinguish between similar buns like the baked BBQ pork bun. - Sponge cake: didn't eat this myself but parents thought this was all right though a little too set. - Baked BBQ pork bun: my dad's favorite. BBQ pork is sweet and complements the bun itself. - Meat bun turnover (Shanghai pan-fried buns): I always like getting these in places like Din Tai Fung and Dough Zone. The ones here are even better, with a ton of filling in each bun and a nice crisp from the pan fry. The only downside is that the menu is small and does not contain all the dimsum items, soy sauce and hot sauce are extra charge, and if dining in there are no plates/dishware and they are a little stingy with giving out napkins. There are a few tables inside you can eat at after getting your order, the food is packed to go so you eat from the packaging. Bus your own table after. It can get quite packed on a weekend! I am not sure what had happened to them, but some of them dim sum weren't what I expected the taste like before. The steam beef rice rolls weren't as good. The rice noodle rolls were too thick. The pan fried beef bun wasn't what I expected. There were way too much onions in them and after one bite, I threw it away. The chicken steam bun wasn't as good as other Chinese restaurants. Where the typical American breakfast fare, fast food, or otherwise, was not what I was seeking this morning, I was fortunate to come across Dim Sum King. Established more than a decade, this restaurant is part of the historic NP Hotel and an integral part of the Seattle's food scene. The restaurant lives up to its name as it serves the Chinese dim sum classics and favorites. Pork shu mei? It's there. Steam har gow? It's there. Chicken feet? You got it! There are other favorites as well, like their steamed rice cake and egg tarts. Even sticky rice and congee is at the ready. Don't forget to bring cash, as they will charge a little extra for using your credit card. Just one thing. No, but it's certainly the most bang for your buck.
