Fortune garden is the perfect 3.5 star restaurant. IYKYK. No frills at all but it's become our go to in ID. If anything other than a Chinese restaurant, you'd take one peek inside and question walking in. Chinese TV is always going and you'll usually see a big group doing family style. Expect stoic servers that get down to business on your order (but also super nice and happy to make a rec). White board has specials written in Chinese and we will often be the only white people in here (great sign). They have American Chinese dishes, but also some legit things too. My go to dishes - Ginger and onion beef, Hot pot with fish and eggplant, salt and pepper tofu. I've tried a few other things too but these are the ones I keep coming back to. To be honest, it was not very spicy, I've had (and enjoyed) wayyyyy spicier dishes before. Also my boyfriend ordered us oysters, they didn't have them on the menu. So it must be a "secret menu" item. They only had two left and we grabbed both. They were prepared steamed and with garlic. I grew up going to this restaurant before running the Chinese dragon, after martial arts class, and hanging out at Hing Hay. Their lunch menu has not changed and the prices are steady. For about $12 you get a main, side and soup. My favorite is the fish with vegetables and their chicken dishes. Their egg flower soup is spot on and goes good with any of their spicy dishes. We decided to have lunch in Chinatown in Seattle. This really was just one of the first places we saw with table service. The interior was pretty unremarkable. Just a building with a few Asian wall hangings and lots of dragon statues and planters. The service was great. The woman helping us was very friendly and helpful. She gave us the lunch menu which was very affordable - - plates between $11.99 and $14.99. The lunch deals included steamed or fried rice, a choice of either hot and sour soup or egg flower soup, and your entree. We both ordered the egg flower soup and it was delicious. We also both ordered the fried rice, but it wasn't really fried rice. It was kind of like steamed rice with some vegetables in it. Not worth the calories in my opinion. The actual entree was enormous! I ordered Kung Pao chicken, and the serving was at least twice the size as most other places. Hubby ordered a beef dish and it was the same thing. And here's the kicker - - the entrees were almost entirely meat. I mean 90% of the huge serving of Kung Pao chicken was actually chicken. You have to applaud them for not getting chintzy on the meat! While we were sitting there, I looked at the door and noticed that the health department rating was not great. There are four levels with smiley faces, and the level of this restaurant was just an okay smiley. We may not have stopped here had we noticed that first. Waitress was helpful to tell us what special dishes they have. And we did order some of them. YUM. I always enjoy coming to this restaurant whenever I'm in town. It's such a good restaurant to come to with your family, however big or small. There were plenty of vegetarian options and lots of meat and seafood options. It's hard to disappoint here with such a massive menu. The servers aren't super friendly and rarely check on you--if ever--but you come here for the good food more than anything else. The food also comes out super quick--it took less than 10 minutes it seemed for 3 dishes. I came in on a Saturday around 5:30 p.m. and it didn't seem too crowded. The entire time my friend and I was dining, I don't think we said anything much other than "wow this is so good" or "Oh my goodness, how come we did't know of this place until now?" I am big fan of Peking duck since our fav place is only take out we wanted to try other places in chinatown where we dont have to get food in plastic boxes. Atmosphere is very nice and authentic. We got big table with rotating tray for just us two. Peking duck was good but because they put bao buns on top of the duck skin became soft and not crispy. That was a bummer because I love it crispy. Fortune Garden is one of several Cantonese restaurants in the Seattle Chinatown-ID area. For me, it's one of two top favorites for Cantonese food. Randomly, I rotate between them to spread my dollars. During COVID time, they are understandably take-out only. I either call ahead to order or I order in person and then do more shopping in the local area and return to pick up. The usual wait time is 10 to 20 minutes depending on how much you order and time of day. The food: Fuzhou Jade Tofu - 5+ Stars Jade Tofu (aka Japanese Tofu, aka egg tofu) is my favorite ingredient, and Fortune Garden does it right in my humble opinion. Velvety smooth, covered in a mixture of seafood bits, Chinese black mushrooms, and veggies (not frozen!), this is easily my favorite dish amongst Cantonese cuisine. Yum, yum! Big portion too. Green Beans with Beef - 5 Stars It's a bit hidden but there's actually a copious amount of beef mixed in with those green beans. The normal oyster sauce type of Cantonese flavor. Reliable and tasty. Generous portion size too. Seafood Chow Mein, soft style - 5 Stars With takeout dishes, I gave up on the HK style crispy pan fry style. It just doesn't work by the time I get home. Doesn't matter. Soft style is still plenty good. It's a heaping amount of noodles and big pieces of prawns, squid, and fish in this dish. Love it! Deep Fried Fish Fillet with Chili - 3.5 Stars Officially, the Chinese term for this dish is 避風塘, or Typhoon Shelter, which is a crispy garlic dish with chili and black beans. But by the time, I drive 25 minutes to get home. There's nothing crispy about it. So, I'm conservatively saying 3.5 stars and there's a chance it's much higher if eaten much sooner or in person. Well, not for a few more months unfortunately. I don't recommend this for take-out. read more

Everything was authentic and delicious.
