It's a spot located almost across the street from the high school stadium, so this is definitely an option for those who are students, their parents, and faculty within the Wilton High School. Having come here for 14 years, there's bound to be some changes in that time. Overall, the staff is still a friendly staff that promotes that community feel although it is admittedly not quite as good as say 10 years ago. I did notice someone described this as quiet, but this is a place that gets a lot of business, so while they have their quiet moments, you are bound to meet some bustle when you're here. Also, they do keep up with the times, accepting Apple Pay as a payment method. Onto the food, what I will say is that if you're a deli who has lasted a long time in Wilton, you know you've done something right, and every time I order from here illustrates this. My favorite is their Barcelona sandwich, which is a breaded chicken cutlet with provolone, roasted red peppers, and pesto mayonnaise. The one I get is in a garlic bread sub with an addition of bacon. Slaps every time might I say, and I will hear nothing else! It's not their only menu thing I've had over the years though. They do great no matter what you get, from breakfast to lunch to dinner. The new cashier ladies they have you do have to make an extra effort to get order in for, but they're still competent enough. One change I really did not like came during COVID-19 when hours were cut everywhere. While understandable in 2020, I really wish they would go back to their pre-pandemic schedule when they were open later during the week and open on Sundays. That way, if someone in the area needed something during the evenings or those Sundays, they would have one. But yeah, the Wilton Deli is still THE Deli of Wilton and I imagine it will stay that way for the rest of my life.

It was quite busy when we arrived on a late Sunday a.m. in January. Tables were filled and there was a line for ordering. We decided on a tomato cheddar soup and the Churn it Up sandwich with Havarti and provolone. We were told the wait would be 40 mins, giving us the option to wait it out or go elsewhere. We stuck it out and the food was at our table in less than 20 mins. The sandwiches were ooey gooey toasted cheesiness and paired perfectly with the creamy tomato soup. It came with a lighty dressed arugula salad. I had a freshly brewed ice tea and my dining partner got a Dr. Brown's soda. The breakfast rush was soon over but people were still coming in to eat and grab take out while we enjoyed our meals. They also offer beers and wines and hot chocolate. The entire place was very clean, including the restrooms, although I did not see any table wiping going on. Staff were smiling and polite. Plenty of parking in lot shared with other business.

The staff was super friendly, and I ordered a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese. It was made on a Brioche roll with a fried egg. Honestly, I wasn't a huge fan of the egg or the sandwich overall. It was okay, probably a three-star kind of thing. Next time I went back, I tried the Calise sandwich, which has chicken cutlet, broccoli rabe, roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, and balsamic glaze. I asked for the broccoli rabe on the side because I know everyone makes it differently. I get that it can be bitter, but some places make it taste amazing without the bitterness, so I wanted it on the side. The sandwich was really good, so I'd give it four stars, especially since the breakfast one was just three in my book. Sometimes you gotta visit a place a couple of times to really get a feel for their food. I wasn't really a fan of the broccoli rabe--it was a bit too bitter for me. But the sandwich itself was tasty, with well-seasoned chicken and really fresh mozzarella. Not sure if they make the mozzarella in-house, but it's delicious. It tasted just like you'd expect from an authentic Italian deli. Very good. Third time I went, I tried the Mother Clucker, which has a chicken cutlet, Russian dressing, cheddar cheese, and bacon. I wanted to try it because I'd seen it being made during my last visit and it looked awesome. It took about ten minutes to get ready. When I opened it up, I realized it had melted cheddar, not sliced like I thought, but it was all good. The sandwich was tasty, but a bit over the top with the bacon and melted cheddar--almost too much. I think using sliced cheddar would bring everything together better. The melted cheese kinda takes away from it, in my opinion. The bacon was crispy even with the cheesy sauce on top, and the chicken was nicely seasoned. I definitely plan to come back and try the Chopped Italian Combo. The staff's always friendly and welcoming, and it's a solid spot if you're looking for breakfast, with plenty of breakfast platters and other menu items that might catch your eye.
