Do not stay here. Find another place to stay, even if it costs 20 dollars more per night. It will save your family's vacation. (Check the filtered reviews here too.) I've heard other yelpers say that if they could give zero stars they would. I have never felt that way before this experience. We will never stay here again. Erin was the former manager and was very helpful and kind. I have no idea what is happening here now. It's horrible. Context: My history with this place is that my family and I have stayed here many times over a span of about 20 years. First, it was a hotel that operated like any typical hotel would. Then, it was a condo/hotel. Now, it is a straight up VRBO with a rental office downstairs. Because it's a VRBO, it's a total gamble with the room that you'll get. Some owners take good care of their places. Others don't. In December, we got married on Oahu. My sister in law has three kids and needed a suite for under 350 a night, so we put the family up here. My husband and I stayed next door at the Aqua Lotus (which was OK). I'm sorry this is going to be long!!.... Review: When my husband and I returned from our honeymoon in Maui, we needed a place to stay for two nights. We booked two nights with the DHBH because other places had a 3 night minimum over the holiday season. When we arrived at the DHBH, we were supposed to have a lockbox with a key in it for our room. It wasn't there. Fortunately I had the manager's cell phone number. She said someone would be there in 20 minutes. An hour later, a really nice man who was their maintenance person arrived. The manager explained that there had been some maintenance needed in the room and that was why the key was not set out for us. (Reasonable explanation) This is where it gets bad... The person who was there to bring us the key was running around like crazy (poor guy). Another 10 minutes later he gave us the key to our room. When we got into our room, it wreaked of Febreeze. The sheets were dirty, there was hair on the bathroom floor, the coffee cups had been used, and it clearly wasn't even cleaned. Kicker- there was a used bar of soap in the shower and the towels were even dirty. I called the manager again to see if someone could come clean it-- my mind was blown that we had PAID for this! She seemed shocked about my call and insisted the room was clean. I am a sane, honest, and reasonable person that worked in the hospitality industry for almost ten years before I became a teacher. And what I do know is treating ANYONE like they are insane and hallucinating is a horrible business practice. It was obvious at this point that this new manager lacked any customer services skills, so I was done. (Seriously, at this point, it would have been appropriate for her to get in her car and come see what the hell was happening for herself!) I didn't have the energy to argue with her (and I was on my honeymoon for goodness sake). I was starving, I was annoyed, so I STRIPPED THE BED, FOUND SPARE SHEETS (thank God) AND CLEANED THE ROOM MYSELF. After all this, I needed a break, so we went next door for lunch and I hopped in the ocean for a bit. When we returned from the beach, we entered our room and the Febreeze smell had been replaced with the NASTIEST, MOST PUTRID SMELL (rotten fish meets curdled milk). It took us about 10 minutes to figure out that it was eminating from the broken microwave in the unit (the front door looked like someone had put a fist through it). My husband was livid. He took the microwave downstairs and left it on the steps of the rental office. I wish I could say it got better from there. But honestly, we counted down the minutes until we could leave. Horrible way to end a honeymoon or spend ANY vacation. It could have been made better if the customer service was acceptable, but it wasn't. Avoid this place at all cost and find another place to stay. I've been sitting on this review for 6 months because I hate making negative posts (look at every other post I've made), but the ratings on here are artificially high due to residents and owners posting, so I felt someone needed to be honest. read more

Last year we stayed in the Palm Suite, this year we went for a slight upgrade to the Lilikoi Suite on the 11th floor. However, it was on the same end of the building (business end), so had pretty much the same view: close up and personal with Diamond Head on one side, and gorgeous ocean & city view from the lanai. The rooms on this side of the hotel all end in 5. Room #'s that end in 1 are on the front of the building, and I have this impression that their view is a breathtaking spilling out right onto centillions of gallons of perfect, blue ocean. We had a full kitchen this time, which is convenient if you're staying put for at least a few days. Downside was that the refrigerator was absolutely foul smelling, with mold growing inside upon our arrival. Upside, was that the manager took care of it immediately and we had no other complaints during our stay. A bonus of staying at a non-standard hotel is that they allowed us to check in early/check out late according to our flight schedule - so we checked in at 11am on Day 1, which was quite a luxury. This isn't a fancy-pants hotel, but it's kept up fairly well. It's very close to Kaimana beach, my favorite beach in town. There's a Russel's convenience store nearby, and simply gorgeous views whether you're staying in the front or back end. read more

#102 the owner is disgusting. He told me the renovations would be finished and continued coming in five days into my stay. After the first day when he would come unannounced knock and walk in I asked him for a refund so I could move and he refused. The Manager at the Rental office on premises (not involved with this property) informed me to call the Police - wish I had now. He did the illegal plumbing himself by building a kitchen in a small closet to get more money! It is not worth what he is charging. You cannot even open blinds in bedroom as condo next door so close outside - no screen for security and walkway right outside the living room where everyone walks past to go swimming. There are many nicer condos on higher floors for some privacy. It has been reported to Authorities and Karma will prevail. read more

We recently had to find very short notice accommodations for our mainland and outer island ohana visiting Oahu for a large family reunion at the base of Diamond Head at Kapiolani Park and the surrounding clubs and restaurants. We searched and compared rates of all the Vacation Rental options in Waikiki and found the Diamond Head Beach Hotel for all our families needs, they had studios, one bedrooms and two bedroom suites with very affordable pricing with spectacular ocean and Diamond head views perfectly located by the Elks club, the Outrigger canoe club, Michele's Restaurant and Kapiolani Park. The reservations and hotel arrangements were handled by Linda Sierra who was very professional and became a valuable resource of info and insured that our family was right at home and the units were perfect during their stay. Management company (Hawaiian-Americana) was very good. The not-so-good: owner put in lots of stuff for cooking, but no place to use it! Had to plug the toaster in the bathroom. Looks like owner just took a hotel room and put in a lot of stuff with no real effort. It would have been very easy to make this a very functional unit. But it is not. The very bad: Wifi rarely worked at all, and when it did, it was slow. We had work to do online and this ruined it until we moved to a different unit. read more

NOT a good rental AT ALL....it is not officially a 'hotel' (as I found out on arrival) so no clean up service in rooms for the 11 days I was there and NO safe in the room (well there is one from the previous owners but they lost all the keys....I'm serious).....the ocean access is dangerous at best, a slippery ladder down to rough seas w/no outer protection....you can/will get easily slammed back into the seawall.......my patio has cigarette butts from the overhead condo owners at all time.....at the far end of Kapiolani Park, so you need a taxi to get towards any restaurants etc.......NOT a good deal or property at all! read more

Since this is a review of the whole property the first thing to say is that everything depends on the specific unit. We have been coming to Honolulu for many years and stayed in several units in the building. The units on the ocean side of the building have fine views from the lanai. Further back in the building you have partial ocean views and views of Kapiolani park. I think all units have a view of Diamond Head through the windows on the walkway to each unit. As in most places, the higher you go the the more open the view. We have been very happy with the units that have the lanais facing the ocean. For us this spot is ideal and those units have been perfect for the two of us. The views from the lanai are great and the location is quiet and residential. It is great to have morning coffee as the sun comes up over Diamond Head and to relax on the lanai as the sun sets at the end of the day. At sunset if you look back at Diamond Head the richness of the color is striking. Also, be aware this is not a hotel. It is a condo that the owner rents out through the management company and the usual hotel services are not automatically provided. Everything in the units we've stayed in has been in good condition and the management has been responsive to any concerns. It is a fine place to enjoy being together with all that Honolulu has to offer. read more

Live like the resident millionaires on the "Gold Coast"of Oahu. We all like best-kept travel secrets and this is one of them. Neighboring condos to this property sell for multiple millions and the amenities in the Diamond Head Apartment Beach Hotel surpass many of the limited number of condos on this precious strip of real estate at the foot of Diamond Head. My family lived in a nearby condo for 15 years before moving to the mainland and we return here to vacation in unarguably best spot. Views and island breezes really do take your breath away as well of rolling waves below your private patio and grassy garden with multiple loungers. Walk to Waikiki in 15 minutes yet have quiet serenity in your private condo and nearby dining options and convenience store. All condos are appointed with everything you need for a stunning vacation or business trip. We have rented from Ohana Beach Rentals on previous vacations and liked it so much we came back summer of 2015 and rented 3 condos to accommodate our extended family for our 50th wedding anniversary. We were able reserve the private lanai for our party while watching the spectacular sunset and alluring waves. To rent a similar space would be thousands or nonexistent. Kyle Pestlin and his whole staff are very easy and professional to work with and helped accommodate us in every way. They are awesome. Parking can even be acquired which is next to impossible in many local condos. I will hope to return every year to this lovely piece of paradise and highly recommend it to anyone that will listen. Stayed here many, many years ago and by chance came back last year when I discovered that though the hotel had been sold and turned into condo residences, rentals are available. Units are available through a local vacation rental agency. I was looking for a modest rental in the Diamond Head area and the Ohana Beach Rentals Hawaii people were able to get a nice studio on pretty short notice. Like this place very much because of it's low key environment, fantastic location and room was clean and nice. You do pay an outcleaning fee but I prefer to having disruption/inconvenience of maid service. I did have a couple of minor maintenance issues, no screen on sliding kitchenette window, this room is on ground level so definately needed that and also a light out in the bathroom. The property management person I dealt with, Kyle P sent a maintenance guy over right away. He called me directly and at my convenience came over promptly and fixed issues. I was more comfortable being there when he was; he was polite/professional, worked quickly and told me to call if/as needed. Things happen, was OK. Location is away from but close to Waikiki, a short walk in one direction or hike up to Diamond Head crater in the other. Directly across from beautiful Kapolani Park and gorgeous vintage fountain (so beautiful at night when lighted) on one side, beachfront on the other. No beach right in front but on either side; there are nice beaches a few feet away and there's a really nice patio/yard area with chaises and great view, very peaceful. There's an open air concierge during business hours and a security person at night, I felt safe and comfortable and I like not having to schlep through a lobby and public elevator in wet bathing suit; come and go as you please. This was the worst place I have ever stayed. The two girls that work at the rental office are the most air head people I've ever been around. Ok we get there she couldn't even get parking right.then we finally get to our room it was 100 degrees in there. And there was roach bait all over the kitchen and yes you fussed it roaches. How nice.then after Bering there for 3 days I get a call saying I didn't give them a 1000 deposit.so I proceed to tell them the girl that took my money said no deposit if you pay in full 120 days before. Guess what she no longer works there. And there living room light flickered on and off all the time and the shower didn't work.now there contract says you get your deposit back after 10 business days. Finally after a month arguing and e mailing back and fourth my bank just released it on there own. This was the Honolulu suite they call it. Beware don't go to this place. read more
