My friend and I came here on a Saturday evening in this summer and it was basically the only place in the downtown Birmingham area that had space available and that probably should've been a red flag. We tried at least calling or walking to 10+ places around downtown beforehand too, so it wasn't for lack of trying. When we walked into Dick O' Dows it was nearly empty, and this was prime dinnertime as well on the weekend. There were maybe only 20% of the tables occupied, which was really surprising, given how jam packed every other place was. There wasn't anyone to seat us after we waited about 3 minutes at the front, so we went ahead and found an open booth and seated ourselves. We waited probably around 5 more minutes before a waiter came to our table and gave us menus. The service wasn't bad, just slow, which was extra surprising given how little people were in the restaurant to begin with. Our waitress was actually super friendly and my friend who is gluten free had a lot of questions for her that she was very knowledgeable on or would check with others to get the correct answers, so that was really appreciated. Other than that, everything else was unremarkable. The food was fine, but nothing to write home about certainly, and I left our meal feeling underwhelmed, but just happy that we got to find a place to sit down and catch up. I won't be recommending this spot to anyone anytime soon, but might try it again if I find myself in a similar predicament where I find myself in Birmingham without a reservation on a very busy night.

I'm well-endowed, and so is Dick O Endowed. In fact I believe he's named after me. Anyway. This Irish Pub was pretty cool. Lots of cute girls and very busy on a Saturday night. Lots of cute people of both genders. I was privileged to listen to some nice local music inside, of the Indie kind, and it looked like Alex L was playing drums. We shared a few drinks with some cute friends. Good times in the posh rich white burbs of Detroit. Sorry if I just made a Dick remark. I'm off to my van now to be a girl and make out with a girl, like that old actor. Dick Van oh it's time to move on to the next review.

Jeff as our server was a delight! He took good care of us. We stuck around long enough that we hated to see him moving on to the room for a party celebration. We even tried to order a second meal but they had to make way for reservations! We will be back! Our food was soooo good! I had the B-Fast Sandy and one pancake. My bestie had the shrimp & grits plus three different flapjacks! The pancakes/flap jacks are huge. I've been there several times with my son and always had a good experience. However, today I walked in and it was like nobody saw me and I stood there at the entrance and I stood there. Two gentlemen came in behind me and the girl saw them and she seated them and then she saw me and she said 'are you here to eat' I said, "of course I'll take the seat by the window facing Maple" and she said "OK go ahead and I'll bring you a menu"! She never did. Eventually, the Server who was working that table. She saw me and she was training another person today and she says I'll be right with you! Well, a minute turned into another minute and another minute and several other people came in and then she came to me and said "what are you having?" I said "I don't know. I don't have a menu!" "Oh" she said "She didn't give you a menu!" I said, No, She didn't give me anything"! So the Server and her trainee went and got me a menu and a glass of water, silverware and napkin! After waiting and waiting for my server and her trainee to return and more people to be seated, my server returned and took my order! Lobster bisque and halibut with green beans no potatoes! Then, for more waiting! And I waited and waited and waiting! They brought my lobster bisque! I tell you! They just do not know how to make a lobster bisque in Birmingham thus far! Not up to par. It was orange and not a bit of lobster in it! Nor the smell of lobster was nowhere near it! I don't know what these restaurants think lobster bisque is. Did not even return to remove my bowl or replenish my water! Never saw them again! Then, I waited another long time until they brought out my main course which was pathetic and the sauce with it was so salty that I couldn't even use it so I did sprinkle some lemon on the fish and try to eat it. The best thing about the meal was the green beans! I ate part of the fish, but it was more or less tasteless! Not one time did my server come to check on me to see if everything was OK and as she was bringing me my check, she poured me some more water, that was really good. The only time she checked on me! The water. Did I tip her? Hummm NO! Oh no oh no! I'm a very good tipper for good service! What could improve? Everything!

The…read moremenu for this restaurant falls along the lines of an expanded bar/Bistro menu with a heavy emphasis on sandwiches, wraps and burgers. Having heard good things about their Burgers I opted to go with their Classic Cheeseburger and fries for $15 and two of their house margarita's which were the drink of the day on Tuesdays for $5 apiece. Realtive to the burger, it was quite large at 1/2 lb and definately a two hander. It was well made, quite juicy, with fresh veggies and very very tasty. The fries were well made as well with a nice crunchy texture and quite tasty in their own right. Lastly my two Margarita's very well made and oh so good where I had only planned on getting one but opted for two after the first sip. NICE! At $5 a piece this was an absolute steal! Relative to facility and staff, the restaurant is visually very appealing with vibrant Irish accents, neon sign's everywhere and TV's scattered to allow you to watch the big game of the day while enjoying your meal. The decor defiantely adds a lot to the dining experience. Staff was very friendly with great follow up throughout. Overall this is a great bar/restaurant whose reputation is well deserved. I definately will be returning in the near future, probably on a Tuesday, so I can get some more of those tasty margarita's. :)
