    Smothered Pork Chops
    Fred M.

Menu just has to many great items to choose from. Went round and round before deciding on the smothered pork chopS over rice plus 2 sides. Yes pork chops as in more than one. Absolutely cooked great. Meat and 3 plus desserts for $12.95. Don't believe this lunch special can be beat. Bar B Q pork plate $9.95. Great staff. Highly recommended this spot. Been going 7 years now when I pass it.

I work out in this part of town, so it was high time I tried this place. There are mixed reviews about Dick Russell's so I've been hesitant to try it. I hear their breakfast is out of this world, while their lunch and dinner is hit and miss. But I'm always one to make my own assessment based on my own observations and experiences, so I decided to give it a go for lunch. I arrived and took a moment for my eyes to adjust from the bright sunny day outside to the dark and rustic atmosphere of the establishment. It seemed clean enough and I was soon seated by a pleasant, albeit busy waitress, who gave me a menu to look over. My initial idea was to get a burger, but gave into the call of the brisket. I love a good brisket. I ordered it with a side of baked beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. They also brought some toasted bread with some butter. So I waited for what seemed like an eternity for my food, and I got up and looked around the place a bit, and kind of dug the decor in the place. I soon returned to my seat, and they finally brought my food after I had returned. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but what I got wasn't it. I got a plate of dry, overcooked meat that didn't resemble brisket in any way. It was slices of beef, with some sauce squirted all over it, it was definitely not good. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm at best. The baked beans were good, but not great. In fact, the toast might have actually been the best part of the meal. I definitely should have gone for the burger. I'm going to give this place another shot in the future, and hopefully try some of that amazing breakfast I've heard about. Maybe it will knock my socks off and balance things out,

Food was meh. Bbq was not good. Ribs were dry and chewy. Sauce was meh. Cobbler just plain bad. Okra was ok and so was the onion rings. Server never brought us silverware until we asked. My husband says a 3, I'm a solid 2. But it's busy so there must be some people who likes it. Building was cute tho

The food is always good and consistent but my to go order for breakfast was a little inconsistent this time. The patty size on my sausage biscuit is huge and over cooked a bit. The hash browns were overcooked and hard. I'm disappointed and won't be back.

Great food with super friendly service. The servicers here are super friendly. I had the BBQ sausage. Thinnly sliced with a nice amount of spiceness. Turnips were full of flavor. Black eye peas were nice and tender. Plus. the biscuit was so amazing. I had the bread pudding, but the banana pudding that my brother got looked better.

Let me start off by saying my server Mary was 10/10. She was very welcoming and friendly and was always right there to see how I was doing. With that kind of service, they were already winning. She is a gem and I hope the owners are taking good care of her because she was AMAZING. As for the food, today was my first time going to Dick Russell's and it was great. I had the pork chop plate with okra and potato salad ans it was perfect. I also ordered a BBQ sandwich. The pork was smoked great but the sauce was a little "ketchuppy" for my taste, but still not bad. Again, not to beat a dead horse, but service was Amazing and I will definitely be back.

We were floored by the robust flavor of each of the homemade gravies. They have a tomato gravy, a sausage gravy, and a redeye gravy. The texture of the gravy was not too thick and none of them were greasy. We each ate a plate of homemade biscuits and in-house made gravy. Although the biscuits and gravy seem like a small serving, the dish is really an adequate meal. Overall, the flavor of the food and the friendliness of the staff solidified our making this restaurant our breakfast place when we visit Mobile.

Crowded but we parked right up front, got on the list and eased out to wait in the comfort of our car. App updates ran accurate and we were seated in a perfect location. Our server JT (according to the ticket) was super cool and put us at ease as first timers and offered some great suggestions. I had the cathead chicken biscuit, well half but the second half went down later at home. We split the coffee cake and Mrs scooped up a Creole omelette. Food was everything it could be and more. Oh, I almost forgot the added blueberry jam I put on the coffee cake, and after the ride home the cake soaked up the blueberry jam liquid, OMG let's just say that's how it should be served. All in all a great experience piloted by our capable server and guaranteed with nice size portions of really good food. This is on the rotation now.

The service can be a bit unpredictable, and the coffee isn't very flavorful, but that doesn't stop me from loving it, mainly because of the Breakfast Brisket Scramble. Stayed anyway because server and hostess were good and atmosphere was cute. I ordered a Power Bowl called the Garden Breakfast Bowl (I knew my mom ordering traditional breakfast for me to sneak bites from). I was hoping for healthy crunch and boost to my day. The vinaigrette was too much for the fresh veggies, bulgar wheat and quinoa. I'm not sure what you would put on that power bowl but that dressing was not it. It had too much of it as well. The veggies and avocado were fresh and ratio of other fillers was good. I wouldn't get it again though. Like I said I took some bites of my mom's traditional breakfast. Eggs cooked correctly, bacon was too, Belgian waffle was very good- fluffy and sweet. Pancake was basic. Overall, the whole experience was basic honestly. I wouldn't turn down if invited there but not going back on my own.

We got lucky and found one of the few non metered spots on the street. The restaurant was a bit busy when we arrived, but they where able to seat us promptly. The service was good. Our table ordered several items off the brunch/breakfast menu. I had the Seafood Eggs Benedict. For the most part this was a solid eggs benedict. However the shrimp were away overcooked and rubbery. They were a bit smallish and just not worth the time or charge. Hands down the best part about the dish was the Honey Ham. It was flavorful and there was a good bit included on the dish. In general it was fine, but not exactly worth the $18 it cost. Cubed Hashbrowns: I mixed bag. Every order at the table the Hashbrowns came out a bit different. Mine were undercooked and crunchy inside, I like them overcooked and crispy. Others at the table had them crunch and almost burnt. You can have them come with cheese and onions. I suggest this upgrade. Others at the table had: Eggs Cathedral: Needed salt. The same dry shrimp as the other dishes. Another dish that just did not seem to justify the cost. BLT Croissant: Was an ok looking sandwich, there was a good amount of bacon on the sandwich, however most of it was very well done. $15 Kids "Egg Breakfast: 1 egg, 1 Meat, 1 Toast. Looked fine. Spot of Tea was not a bad meal and there is good diversity to the Breakfast menu. However nothing the table had has was great, just mostly good. The Shrimp however were just bad. It seems that they are cooked in batches early in the day and added to dishes as needed. So I would personally avoid the "jumbo" shrimp dishes. Side note on the shrimp they are the same one that was added to the bloody marry cocktail. I think the biggest hang-up is the price to quality ratio. If you are in the area and want an eggs benedict you may want to give them a try. For me however I think there are better options to get full in the area.
