Giving three stars for the horrible service here today. I work at the hospital and when I am able to run out for a quick lunch, I enjoy coming here. Today, I stood in line for 15 minutes waiting to order. We ordered and left with what we though was our food. The cashier forgot to put my hamburger in. I went right back up to the window and told her. She only said "oh. I didn't hear you" no offer to grab it right away. I then had the physician I assist walk back to work without me so I could again stand in line and wait to order a hamburger. I went to a different window this time. When I get back up there another full 10 minutes later, I tell the cashier what happened to me at the other window and give her my order, she says she's sorry but does not offer to have the manager talk with me. I clearly see the manager right there so I ask her name and am told it's Ali. She offers to have her talk to me but at this point I have a patient to get back to so no time to stand there even longer to deal with this mess! I am disappointed with Dicks! I am only writing this review because some of.you seem to forget that dick's is a drive in not a drive thru. They are not a made to order restaurant, go to McDonald's if you want a salad or a crispy fry. Dicks is all about classic greasy burgers and fries. They put what they put on it and that is it. I've never experienced anything like this place! I knew I was in for a treat when my friend Michelle offered to bring me here for my birthday. I'm not from this part of town but I was passing through going to get my Uncle B from his home. UncBee is a little older than you expect so I need to really manage him and his life. Anyways I drove from my wife's house in Utah and made my way up to town. I called Michelle on my way and let her know that I would be passing through her village. She let me know she was available and would meet me for Dick's as a special treat for my birthday. I asked her to explain what food they offer and she just said "oh Erik, it's your traditional American food". Now lemme tell you this is way more than traditional American food, she was wrong. I got the double double marinated beef patties with their special sauce. I was able to ask around and finally spoke to chef Guileen and he said the special sauce is a mixture of ketchup, sprite and parsley. It's truly remarkable and a beautiful sensation. It was approaching closing time and I was {gasp!} stone cold sober but hungry. I drove on up to the dicks and ordered two regular hamburgers and a vanilla shake. I'd say about 2 nanoseconds after handing over the cash, the attendant handed me over my meal already bagged up and ready to go.. I looked around me for a couple of seconds not fathoming that my order could be ready already. Did someone phone in my order ahead of time? - no, I had literally made my mind up at the counter... Were they perhaps psychic? - possibly but i don't believe in that kind of hocus pocus... the only other possible explanations lie in the realms of physics comprising things like quarks and bosons and god particles (sorry physicists), and wormholes and back to the future and Michael J Fox... things I cannot understand.. All I know is I got my tasty burgers that taste like any other burger I've ever had, nothing standing out in particular except for the fact that they arrived so fast they must have passed through a rip in the fabric of space and/or time. read more

Everytime I'm close to one of these places every few months, I always stop by to get a deluxe with fries. Sometimes I grab a milkshake! It may not be the healthiest, but it's delicious as a rare meal. I have been know to buy 6 orders of fries and burgers before a long flight out of the country. Guilty pleasure. read more

A great place to have a date night or teenagers hanging out. Bring cash no plastic accepted but they own the ATM in the side wall (Edmonds). Burgers, fries and shake are the staple here. Oh Dick's, how I love you so.... I have photo's of my sister and I at the counter with ice cream, 25+ years ago. Lots of fond memories include a dick's drive in or two. Whether it be a sunny afternoon, a very late night drunken snack, or anything else, they are always predictable and just what I am looking for. The fries are salty and a little greasy, just they way they should be! The burgers are not greasy and are actually made with real beef. Everything is simple, don't come here looking for custom gourmet burgers. The shakes are also awesome, made with real ice cream, not that crazy whipped foamy stuff like other places. And the prices? I think a cheeseburger is like $1.15 or something close to that, you cant beat that anywhere!!!!! I still can't believe they opened this new location! Skip the deluxe and the whatever else it is burger, the cheeseburger is the way to go, but you need at least two. Good greasy salty soggy fries too. Cashiers seem to be trained to be rude, not sure why they are so surly. Unfriendliness isn't just at this location either. The only highlight of Dicks is fast service. Lacking every where else. My cheeseburger tasted exactly like, if not worse than, a McDonalds burger. Which had me wondering why I didn't just go there for a better price, customizable burger, and superior fries. Rude employees who inaudibly mumble from their side of the thick glass. And the worst fries I have ever seen. I looked in the bag and honestly felt disrespected by these fries. Both by the amount and the quality. Like these fries have been out for a week and they gave them to me instead of putting them in the garbage (which after two or three is exactly where I put them). I'm reading on here that people compare this place to In-N-Out and being from California I'm insulted. And feel sad that my neighbors here in Seattle think they are getting the five-star In-N-Out experience here at Dicks. Because they are not. Not even close. Dicks finally opened up another location and its not hard to find at all. On hwy 99 next to top foods. The place is really nice and the parking is huge enough to have hundreds of people in line on opening day for burgers, fries, and milk shakes. Yay! I'm a fan. I was impressed how clean this location was. The parking lot was large with plenty of parking spots. And since Dick's only excepts cash they have an on site ATM. Even though prices are some what reasonable be prepared to spend about $20 for two people. So it can add up fast. read more

I've been going to the other Dick's since the 60's(except for the lower Queen Anne one, which didn't change from a Herfy's to a Dick's until the mid 70s). I also grewup going to the Edmonds A & W, which used to be located just SW of this spot, so it was a trip back for me when I went to the Edmonds Dick's for the first time this week. Three big changes: plenty of parking, which is great especially after living through the crowding at Wallingford; rest rooms, which is great; finally, though, service that was far slower than any Dick's but Broadway. For over 21 years we've had a beautiful water-colored painting of a Dick's Drive-In on the wall above our kitchen table. And we love it, the best Northwest Americana painting I've come across. And to be sure - I was looking forward to finally getting around to visit the newest Dick's Drive-In in Edmonds, WA. I had the Deluxe and the fresh french fries. The new Edmonds store was the best burger and fries I've ever had at a Dick's, and I've eaten a lot over the decades. I think that not only the newness of the equipment, but also the pride of the staff working at the newest Dick's has made this Edmonds location flagship worthy in quality and service. What can I say, Dick's is Dick's. This one is different in that it's...clean! Tastes like they've upgraded their buns, however I liked them for their greazy, crappy ones. I would consider myself a bit of a burger connoisseur, and having just moved to the Edmonds area, I was looking for a new burger joint to frequent. My new roomie said I had to try Dick's Drive-In. So driving by one day, I decided to stop in for a bite. First impression: Bonus point for not having a drive-thru. That tells me they are a step up from your typical McBurgerBox you find on every other street corner. Second bonus was the packed parking lot. Any place that can get people out of their car and actually walk up to a window to place their order, has to have good food. Placing my order: Dick's has a VERY simple menu, taking a page out of In-N-Outs play book. It was nice not to have to look thru a menu that had so many choices that they had to assign numbers. Another good thing is there was no Super Size my waistline option. They don't need a million different options in hopes of appeasing everyone. They have faith in their abilities to make a good burger, and they do it well. Not to mention the price... a deluxe burger (which comes with two patties), fries (cooked in vegetable oil), and a large soda was a little less than $7. Service was very fast. The food was delicious. They have one thing that most fast-food places don't have, and that's flavor. Final thought... when comparing restaurants, you have to put things in perspective or you will constantly be disappointed. Is this Five Guys? No, but Five Guys is a sit down restaurant where you have to wait for your food to be made. So of course there will be a difference. People don't go to Drive-Ins/Drive-Thru's to have to wait. They want a fast meal. Does Dicks stand up to In-N-Out? I would say so. My only complaints... the size was a little small, but they make up for it in flavor. And not accepting credit cards, but I know that is to help keep costs down. Overall, a great little burger place that has won over this self professed food critic. read more

Dick's is the go-to spot when we can't decide what we want to have when we are out running errands. -The burgers are tasty but quite small. -The fries are always limp and greasy, but hey some people like limp and greasy fries.
