It's a local classic - there are a few locations around Seattle. I prefer the Dick's next to UW since that is a prime location but this one serves the same quality. Things to know: -They don't do any customizations on the items so don't try and request a Deluxe without one of the toppings -The cheeseburgers are quite thin (reg cheeseburger on menu, not deluxe/special) so make sure you order enough food Two cheeseburgers and an order of fries will fill you right up! I do feel people who have not tried this place is missing out. Note: their buns are made fresh and beef is fresh too, not the frozen one. For vegetarians, they have great fries for food. Being from the Bay Area where we have In and Out Burger, where do I begin. Omg! This place was absolutely awful. I had high hopes considering all the good reviews on yelp and the long lines out front, so I just knew we were in for treat. This place you can't remove or substitute toppings on their burgers at all, You pretty much have to get what they are giving. My husband ordered a deluxe and I got just a plain cheese burger with just meat and cheese and a side of mustard. When we bit into the burgers it tasted as if the meat was boiled and the burger itself was warmed in a microwave . The fries were flashed fried and refried again so they were full of grease and the vanilla milkshake was just okay. I guess the saying rings true you get what you pay for. Dicks Burger is a hidden gem in the middle of Seattle! I am not too sure of the history for this restaurant but from what I can see, it likes to keep things simple and old fashioned. This concept actually benefits the business as it reminds us as customers of the good old days when things were not so expensive and life seemed simpler. When you pull into the business parking lot, it might be tough to land a parking spot. Parking is extremely limited and most if not all their patrons either walk/scooter/bike their way to the line where customers order. That aside, literally eveything else is amazing about this burger place. They have simple burgers, fries, drinks, and shakes, that is it! No salads, no tacos, no fusion dishes that try to capitalize the food market. This place focuses on one thing and that is the burgers. The burgers are delightfully flavored, they are juicy, savory, and meaty. They do not add too many ingredients to the burger and that is okay! Like I mentioned earlier, this place keeps things simple. They do offer soft drinks, floats and shakes for beverages. Which again, simple but exquisite. All this, at an extremely affordable price. There are no dining areas (inside/outside) and/or drive-thru. The expectation is (if you drove) that you park, order, and return to your car to eat. I know, I know, it's a Seattle staple, but for me, it's A-OK. Yes, I have gone drunk and yes, I have gone sober, and will say going drunk is better, as it should be. The gratification really stems from its bargain price and greasy, fast food, conveniently located just down the street from all the bars on Capitol Hill. I ordered the Deluxe Burger, which is a double patty with cheese, lettuce, house sauce and is their biggest burger on the menu. It wasn't too shabby and for three dollars, I was down. I had some of my friend's fries and as always, they were limp and lukewarm. Never really been keen on the fries here. Menu is straightforward with classic burgers, fries, milkshakes and housemade tartar sauce that's worth an extra quarter. Just remember, Dick's Drive-In always tastes better drunk and they know it. Local charm is how i would describe the burger I had. Loved the pickle sauce they use in the burgers. Overall pretty good from the standpoint of value and eating it soon after buying. I went to the courtyard in the farmer's market across the street. I got a deluxe and a cheese with fries and a strawberry shake. Fries were a mess and probably the worst I have ever seen in a fast food joint. Burgers were good but for some reason DDR does not believe in lettuce and tomato as part of the base fixings? I dunno but I did not add on for those. Weird that they charge extra for ketchup too for some of them. Anyway, not bad beef patties for this type of eatery but I might be a one and done for DDR as I don't really feel it is anything special. I can move on now that I have tried it. P.S. I got the plain cheeseburger (since the reg one comes with ketchup + mustard) and fries. The bun was not toasted at all and was just dry. The patty was a usual patty. Cheese wasn't really melted. And you can't personalize toppings in any way. Moving into the fries, it seemed like potatoes drenched in oil that had been sitting out for at least 20-30minutes. It just felt greasy and not fresh. Weird since we saw them making fresh fries in the back -- sucks we couldn't get those ones. Heck yeah! The hype is real. What better way to spend our last night in Seattle and the last night of our west coast tour than at the iconic Dick's Drive-In. My daughter was insistent that we go here. We walked up to order. Drive thru and walk up only. Inside were about 10 hard-working individuals, making sure everyone got their delicious burgers, French fries,etc.....it didn't stop. We were there for about 30 minutes. The drive thru and walk up was constantly busy the entire time. We ate outside at a stand-up bar. As a newcomer, you have to eat outside to enjoy all the ambiance this part of Seattle brings. We loved it! Dinner with a show for sure. The burgers and fries were delicious. The ice cream was great! The service was lightning fast. The only thing I would change about Dick's would be to have someone come out and wipe down the metal bar areas occasionally. That certainly won't dissuade me from eating here next time I'm in Seattle. This is an institution that can not be missed. read more

I was visiting Seattle and heard about the "die to for" burger at dicks. The burger was definitely good, but I honestly wasn't blown away (I think it's because I'm used to the shake shack vs. in-n-our argument as an East coast transplant in LA). I was kind of surprised to see that there was no double patties or triple patties. The buns were buttered, but were toasted and the burger came with no condiments. The fries were pretty good. I really did have a great burger and a great time with Dick's in Capitol Hill. While I usually am not a huge fan of waiting in lines, the line moved so fast, the service was insanely fast, the workers were super nice and the price was right! I have wanted to come here for a while after the Doughboy Boys Podcast visited a few years ago and gave it a great rating! While I am a fan of In-N-Out type places, Dick's feels comparable if not better. That special sauce is possibly the best thing on a burger and want to replicate it myself. Finally tried this after being in the Seattle area for 2 years. I got the Dick's Deluxe, which is a quarter pounder with cheese, mayo, lettuce, pickle, with a dual patty. Food: Burger was nice and well cooked. Fries tasted pretty average. 1 deluxe didn't really fill me. I guess you'd need 2 of them to be content. The place: The design of the place seemed pretty dumb. There are these metal table tops clearly meant for placing your food on it and eating. But they are right by the cashier lines. So they're effectively unusable since you don't have any place to stand now. Wish there was a reasonable place to atleast stand and eat, I understand sit down is obviously unreasonable with the amount of crowd. Speed: Some lines move way faster than others. So I was saddened to learn that due to social distancing guidelines no fries were available at the Broadway dicks. I know we're all making sacrifices at this time of national emergency, however I fail to see how this restaurant cannot safely make fresh french fries yet still pump out burgers and milkshakes. The hamburger special was essentially an upgrade because it had lettuce and sweet mayonnaise. The patty is so, so, thin. The bread to meat ratio is about 3:1. The price reflects the lack of quality ingredients. My rating on the food is a solid negative 1. Chocolate shakes equal 4. Raise your prices, get more beef in your burger, AND treat your employees well. I'm probably not going to eat here again. read more
