Tried Dick's to see if it was as good as people say it is, mainly because so many people compare it to In-n-Out. To be honest they're not comparable in my opinion, they taste different with different systems of operation (Dick's definitely felt more fixed in menu if that makes sense - mainly since you can't really alter your order). Burger was good, the sauce was tasty; it was a little on the greasier side when I tried it. The ice cream here though? FIRE. Loved the coffee one, especially late at night after some partying. i feel like if you're traveling to seattle, you have to try it at least once. it's iconic after all. my favorite thing about this place is the price, i got three burgers, two sides of ketchup and a milkshake for 10 dollars. in terms of food quality, it was equivalent to a mcdonald's cheeseburger. and you really cannot customize the items even just to take things off, which i can't understand. the menu is small and the line to order takes forever. if i lived here i'd probably be a frequent customer just based on price alone. read more

They always don't have 4 hamburgers available. I spoke with their management about this and they said it's because people dont order them that often. But I can go to McDonald's or any fast food restaurant in the area and there is no wait for 4 hamburgers. So the excuse doesn't really stand. Food is good and I would definitely eat again, but the staff is very rude! I asked if a bun could be removed from a burger for an allergen and the worker rolled his eyes and said no. That is fine, but the attitude is uncalled for. While taking our order, the cashier has to repeatedly ask us to repeat the order because he was messing around with other workers. Being from California, I had no expectation that the hype of Dick's Drive In would be anywhere close to In N Out. In N Out takes their time to make fresh patties made to order. I came in with low expectation and even still, I was pretty disappointed. My first impression: Wow, theres a pretty decent size line for 10 pm on a Saturday night. The burger came ready in about 58 seconds after ordering. I was not ready for what my body had to endure next. The burger was decent size. Pretty hefty, seemed simple enough, I got the deluxe burger. It came with two patties, cheese, and a non-existent soggy lettuce. First bite, okay the meat was really dry. It was hurting my throat to even swallow it. The meat seemed like it had hit the grill so thin that all of the juice had completely disappeared. The bun was soft and potato-like which I enjoyed. But the rest of the burger was sad. I couldn't bring myself to finish the whole thing. I took a few bites and threw it away. The french fries are soggy and overly greasy. Again, couldn't finish them. The chocolate milkshake was mediocre. It tasted like store bought icecream with milk. It gets the job done and it was probably the best thing we ordered. I am stunned by the fact that you have to pay 5 cents for a condiment of your choosing. Dick's Drive In is certainly a good place if you're looking for a cheap burger and you're on a time crunch. On the walk back to our car, we stumbled upon Dick's Drive-In. I was still hungry after our dinner so we decided to give them a go. Apparently, they've been around since 1954 with two other locations in the city. We dropped in on a Saturday evening (around 7:45pm) and it was bumping. Three lines that kept on getting longer. There's no sitting area but you can either eat in your car or stand. The menu consists of burgers, fries, milkshakes and old fashioned ice cream. Prices are dirt cheap ($1.70 US to $3.80 US for burgers). - Dick's special ($2.40 US) - one patty, lettuce, mayo and chopped pickle. This wasn't particularly terrible or great. For the price, it's serviceable. Bun is plain. Beef isn't seasoned. The mayo adds some much needed moisture and the diced pickles some crunch. - French fries ($2.15 US) - at least they use fresh potatoes. Thin style but limp and soggy. Seasoning was okay. If you're on a budget, DDI will do the trick. Don't come here for a real meal. 2.5 stars. read more

Basically one of the cultural landmarks in Seattle, this is one of the best fast food burgers in america. Prices are insanely cheap and you can't really get a classic burger like this anywhere else. The menu hasn't changed since it was founded and although it's not a big burger, pair it with fries and a shake and you'll be feeling it throughout the day. Like most other dicks, this place has only a standing area and has long lines that gets bigger throughout the day. (Although it's been better since it's reopening). Burgers are pre-prepared so it moves quick so don't be discouraged. Keep in mind this is probably going to be like at most 10-12$ a meal, so don't expect a gourmet burger. As a seattllite I was told I needed to try Dick's. I live here for more than 20 years and never tried it or was motivated to. Since today was there special day and I had time, I decided to finally check it out...and it was definitely worth the 19 cents lol I'm not sure what the hype is but I prefer McDonald's way better. I tried to order a cheeseburger with no mustard and they said they can give me a plain cheese burger and add ketchup, and i was like sure. Didn't realize that the added ketchup was an additional 5 cent and the plain cheeseburger doesn't come with anything but Patty and cheese. My usual go to for tasty burgers but not anymore. Before: fast service and you're done within 3 minutes from the start of your order to the end of your order. This truly was a great spot to pick up food and enjoy with your friends and coworkers . Now: they will take your order. And the person's order behind you too. And then your order will be ready however they will not give you your order until they have taken the person's order behind you. This causes a massive delay in you getting your food. You paid, you should get your order and be on your way, right? Nah they are busy answering questions from other customers. By eating here you wait extra time. How much extra time? 20 whole minutes. You order. And when you step to the side, you're easily forgotten as they take the next order and the next order before giving you your food. You can see that handling essentially two or three orders at a time is not great for anyone. This creates an absurdly long line that wraps around the building. I notice more and more food places are doing this so they can make the most sales. They can maximize on orders taken, but not orders fulfilled. Meat: the grind of meat is really bad because I can notice the gristle (bad tough meat that can't be broken down from grinding) and they are definitely working in more lean cuts of beef into the patty. Not from just one burger my entire order. Formula has absolutely changed. So you get a higher priced burger, longer wait time, and in the end, a bad burger experience. 'It takes time to make a good burger. Busy food places is a good sign of good food.' This is no longer the case. You're gonna wait for bad food whether you like it or not. You can see with my attached picture how much time they are putting into their food now as of 10/08/2021. Didn't know my burger came with sushi . Enjoy your long wait the next time you stop in here. Bring your best dentures and a book to read because you're gonna definitely need it to chew through the beef patty while they try and help you and the customers behind you all at the same time. The great Dick's drive in burger on Broadway is no more. I'm only here to provide useful information. BONUS: As for the funny, one cashier was trying to fit my two burger bags onto a food and drink carrier. Only I didn't order a drink . And the food carrier only fits one bag and two drinks. This place has been reviewed enough so here's our quick experience. My wife had a deluxe, I had the special, and we shared fries and a medium coke. Can't go wrong when a meal for two (with tax) cost $11.19. The simplicity of the menu was also appreciated as it makes deciding what to order very easy. The food was great. No complaints on anything we ate. I think the simplicity of the burgers is what makes it shine as it doesn't need a lot of fancy/unique ingredients or condiments. My wife especially loved the fries which she said were similar to pik-nik chips in size and flavor. They are more soggier than crispy but were delicious. Only minor complaint would be the lack of area to sit down and enjoy our meal--- which I get because it's a drive-in. Also, these burgers are on the smaller side which makes sense since they are relatively cheap. We each had one which didn't fill us up. I think two would do the trick. read more

Dick's is not the place you go if you want the fanciest burger or the biggest burger. Dick's is where you go if you want cheap yummy burger that is the best bang for your buck. In that sense, it's great. I like that their menu is small and you can count on it to be consistent. I usually get their Deluxe or their Special. Their Deluxe really hits home and for under $5! I also love their milkshakes - my favorite is Strawberry and I don't even usually like strawberry ice cream/shakes. Their root beer floats are classic as well. Some tips: - Ketchup is 11 cents (10 cents then plus tax) so make sure you remember to order that if you want it with your burger and/or fries. I always underestimate how much I love ketchup. - Their Hamburger (no cheese, no nothing) seems to always be low. My partner only gets the hamburger but is always met with "we're out right now, do you want a cheeseburger? (no, if he wanted a cheeseburger, he would've ordered a cheeseburger....)" So we always end up waiting which is fine but this is just something to note. - line is pretty long so get ready to wait a bit though it does move fast. Okay, it's fast food and not perfect but honestly, I thought the burgers were bomb. There's lots of hype about this chain and as we were out and about we saw the long lines outside and figured let's try this out. They have a good amount of parking on both sides - you hop out of your car, order at the window, then hop back in your car to enjoy. Once you order they quickly hand you your meal and away you go. It's a pretty slick system with minimal wait time - when it works. We seemed to be in the slow line as I watched the line next to us move wayyyy faster, orders almost appearing instantly. The menu is simple. Cheeseburger, hamburger or a deluxe (double patties with cheese and toppings). They have fries, drinks and ice cream. Extra Condiments are 5 cents for a small little container. It's a good deal honestly, the food is cheap. Once our SLOW line allowed us to order, we got a cheeseburger plain, a deluxe, one order of fries, one Diet Coke, four tartar sauces (20 cents) and a kids vanilla cone. Our total was like $12. Cheap!! The downside was we had to wait for a plain cheeseburger to be made. Clearly they have an assembly line situation in the back and just crank stuff out constantly but I thought this was weird. Of all things, the easiest to make? The guy who rang us up tried to talk my girlfriend into getting a hamburger instead since those were available. We will wait... Took a few minutes but finally got our order. I wasn't impressed with that as you watched everyone else walk right off with their order (does no one else order a plain cheeseburger?) but it wasn't that big of a deal. Off to the car we went. The burgers were bomb. I could probably put two away no problem. My girlfriend said the same. For a fast food burger I would probably rather have this than in n out or even shake shack. And cheap!! NO DISSING MY DICK'S DISCOVERY! The first time I came to this (or any other) Dick's Drive-In, Gerald Ford was president. I waited over 15 minutes to place an order at the Jack-In-The-Box that used to be right across the street, gave up on them, and went to Dick's, and have been sold on Dicks fast food service ever since. This is true, not only at this second oldest location (opened in 1955), but at all their locations. The line was fairly long today (August 23, 2021) on this mid to late Monday afternoon. But to this day, I don't ever remember fuming to myself with a comic strip "thought balloon" above my head thinking "how much longer do I have to wait before I can even place an order?" at this, or any other Dick's Drive in! FROZEN ALWAYS GETS COLD BUT FRESH NEVER GETS OLD Today, I ordered my usual suspect menu, which was their Dick's Deluxe, Dick Special, their French fries (which I especially like), and a root beer. This is food that I do not get tired of. Perhaps that is because they use fresh, not frozen beef, in their burgers. COMING TO A CROSSROADS THEATER NEAR YOU! Although lately I have not been going to Dick's much, because there has not been a nearby Dick's in my neighborhood. There was one in downtown Bellevue from 1965, until it closed in 1974. But soon there will be a new Dick's in Bellevue's Crossroads Shopping Center in the fall of 2021. This I'm looking forward to! It appears from their promo billboards at Crossroads Shopping Center, that it will be built in the same walk-up fashion as their other 1950s/60s era restaurants. The only difference is, it will be ingrafted in the strip mall building right where PetCo used to be. This is right next-door to the Crossroads 8 Theaters. DICK'S DOWNERS (NOBODY'S PERFECT) The only downers to speak of are no drive-thru, curbside pick up, delivery, or extensive choice menu. Nor are substitutions permitted. But to me, these are part and parcel of their secret on how they keep costs down and keep production (read fast food) up. This is fast food the way it was meant to be done! But at least now you can get packets of mustard (at extra charge) when you request them. Their only brain fart that mattered to me was not providing packets of mustard at all in the past. But unlike most fast food places, Dick's offers good benefits to it's employees. So I for one don't mind paying a little more for my packets of mustard, especially since they do accept Mobile pay (Apple Pay and google pay). THOUGH THEY DID NOT ALWAYS CUT THE MUSTARD, THEY DO CUT THE COVID! Because the line is outside, the ventilation should help keep Covid at bay, despite the crowds. Nevertheless, in righteous preparedness, they have orange social distance markings on the ground. And this is a first,...they actually have employees out there to help enforce social distance when the line gets crowded. Everybody I saw there, both employees, and customers, wore a mask. Even the beggar on the sidewalk wore a mask. We are now in the fifth wave of spiking Covid infections, thanks to the new highly transmissible (though thankfully not more deadly) Delta (Force) variant, despite Seattle having an above average percent of people being fully vaccinated. I have been visiting Seattle once a year for the past 10 years or so and I finally stopped by to get some burgers at Dick's. Some of my local friends talk about Dick's burgers like Californians talk about the Double Double at In-n-Out. When I got here, there were several lines and they were all long. Thankfully they moved fairly quickly. Their menu was very basic and simple which was similar to In-n-Out's menu. Once I got up to the window, I ordered 2 Dick's Deluxe. I didn't have to wait long for my burgers. Their burgers had an unique taste with the mayo and chopped pickles. It's not overly salted like the Double Double and I thought it tasted better than a Whataburger. With that said, I foresee this place as a regular stop for me in the years to come. read more
