We were told that we needed to eat some Dicks while we were in town. So we went to get the D! This was the worst dicks we have ever had!!. Service was a quickie as everything is pre-made. We got the deluxe dick, as it was recommended by the employee. It was the nastiest dick ever. He told us it had pickles in it and we were stoked, but he was wrong. An incredible place if you're looking for a greasy burger and mediocre fries that are best dipped in an equally okay milkshake, i.e. you're totally drunk and need some unhealthy sustenance to keep going. Unfortunately, there will probably be a 10-20 minute wait between you and getting that food because there always seems to be a crowd here after 10pm - not the most appetizing beginning when you're in a state of mind to want Dick's. On the upside, the food at Dick's is definitely cheap and comes out quickly once you've made it through the line. I've always found the staff to be friendly, and people-watching in the Dick's line is a quintessential Seattle experience that I would encourage anyone to undergo. I'd always rather take my business to a better nearby late-night food place, but I rarely regret standing in line with a friend who just needs their junk food fix. This location is a walk-up sent of windows with very limited parking in the area. Came here because l heard it's a classic Seattle spot for munchies and their version of In N Out. If you're from the LA area, it's got that institution-status like Tito's Tacos. Whatever it is, I think this is a solid every-day burger place that has that backyard BBQ taste--sort of like the Cook Out fast food chains in the South. I had a 2 burgers with a cup of fries. I love when fries have a little sliver of the potato skin--they remind me of fries from Vallejo's Bud's Burgers. For the burgers, I got a Dick's deluxe and a cheeseburger. Simple is best for me here and I preferred the cheeseburger. It was a better version of a McDonald's single cheeseburger. I am biased and I think my preference lies with In N Out (the ingredients feel fresher)--but I wouldn't refuse a Dick's. Took some food back to people back at the hotel I was staying at and they all thought the burgers were A-okay. It's pretty amusing for the first 10 minutes walking through the hotel and having everyone ask you why you didn't grab them a bag of Dick's, too, but the joke does get sort of old real fast. The skinny? 1. Bill Gates was photo-ed eating here, if you're a tourist this is probably enough to make you visit. 2. After a long night of whiskey from the many cocktail bars in Capitol Hill, my group headed to Dick's where I got to try a little bit of everything. We have Whataburger, and In N Outs in Texas now, but this is supposedly the hot spot for those in the Pacific Northwest. I felt like it was this sort of sour taste which ruined the sandwich. The burger itself wasn't really tasty, and it felt hard and dry. The fries on the other hand were quite decent, but it was such a failure of a burger. They also have some shakes for a dessert, but I would recommend only getting the fries if anything. At age 66, it was time I visited Dick's to see what the hub bub is all about. I'm not quick to follow a new trend. They've been in business since 1957 so perhaps they will be around a few years. Soggy fries, and probably the only quality item ingredients wise on the menu. The rest is bland, over processed, cheapest as all possible. If Wish China had a burger this would be it. People defend it with all thier hearts just because it's been around forever, and it's cheap. When the people who run the company said they have to make concessions to pay what they do well it was in the food and handling and storage. Staff is friendly of course because they make more than most with a degree with 0 education or job experience. It's the future horrible products, bland food, to satisfy the zoomers. I came here the other night and was amazed at how great the staff were. My friends and I had been drinking quite a bit and came here for some drunchies (drunk munchies). We ordered some burgers and fries from the walk up window then waited under the cover. When the bags were handed to us we wanted to do a little shimmy dance because we were so happy our drunchies had arrived. As we grabbed the bags we shimmied when suddenly one of the employees said (something along the lines of), "can I join you guys?" Ecstatic to his enthusiasm we jumped for even more joy and said, "of course!" Seconds after, we had a woman filming us on Boomerang all shimmying at the window of Dick's Drive-In. This could possibly be the best Boomerang out of Seattle. We couldn't have been happier with our visit and experience from start to finish. I later Tweeted Dick's the Boomerang video and they retweeted it. It was glorious. Just these small acts of going above and beyond made me fall in love with Dick's. The burgers The burgers have a great combination of ingredients, nothing too special, but they get the job done. The fries The fires were covered in just the right amount of grease and salt and I couldn't get enough of them. I will come back here anytime I am close by just for these fries. Definitely try them! All in all I highly recommend Dick's, especially if you have drunchies and are around Capitol Hill. Even if you are not, try Dick's. Their milkshakes look incredible too. read more

I don't know why people compare this to In n Out. Although I am not a fanatic about In n Out, I do believe In n Out has better options like animal styles fries + the option to order a grilled cheese. The menu is set- not many options but it keeps it simple and fast. Prices are cheap and the food is good for the price. It is a really good cheap option to visit late at night when nothing else is open. They have security at night. It's literally the easiest walk up order joint you can ever go to. The food isn't bad but doesn't compare to In n Out. The menu should be slightly accommodating though to those who don't eat meat, possibly offer a grilled cheese on the menu. Employees are nice though and the food comes out fast. I had just watched The Founder, which is a (great) movie about how McDonalds got started. The original McDonalds actually started off as a drive-in, which was revolutionary at the time, so I was very excited to try my first ever drive-in! I ordered the Regular Hamburger, the Special Burger, the Deluxe Burger, french fries, and a Vanilla Milkshake for about $12 (so cheap!). The Regular Hamburger was plain and simple, although a bit small. The Special Burger and Deluxe Burger had more meat, lettuce, and different sauces (no ketchup). The fries were limp, slightly soggy, and disappointing. I don't recommend getting them. The Vanilla Milkshake was average, but I heard they are made with real ice cream which is a plus. Ultimately, I think my experience here was better than it normally would have been simply because I was so excited to try a drive-in! However, I would only ever come here again for a late night hamburger craving. Dick's Drive-In is just for cheap and classic hamburgers that make you feel American, so don't expect too much. This review is for Crossroads location. Happened to be at Crossroads shopping. finally decided to try Dick's . Lived here over 22 years, thought we should finally check out this institution . Ordered 2 burgers and fries. What we got were 2 cold burgers , dry meat patty with wilted, slimy lettuce And hardly any sauce ( I think it was soaked up by soggy bun) Fries were cold also. Soggy, mashed together and pretty gross. Now, it was 2 in the afternoon, so not busy. I had to find out how long ago these burgers were made. Ours tasted like it had been wrapped up at least 30 minutes ago. I went back to window and asked. Yup, answer was up to 30 minutes. I could see them already wrapping at least 2 dozen and there were no customers at the time. This was the first and last time we will go to Dick's. I don't know what it is, but this location has the absolute worst employees of any Seattle area Dick's. The rudeness is through the roof. High school aged kid made a jacking off motion as he went to get my burgers, I called him out on it and he yanked the cc processor out of my hand and asked for security. I could only SMH. Went to Dick's for the first time after a night out and was disappointed. Although the food is pretty cheap, the taste and quality of the burgers and fries are also pretty cheap. Of course, like any fast food it's flavorful but very mid. I think I'm mostly disappointed because so many people have told me it's great but it was pretty lackluster. Dicks Customer Service (3/5) First impression of Dicks is that it reminded me of McDonalds from the 90s. The folks that took my order were nice but definitely were just running through the script and taking our order. After we ordered our food it was interesting how quick the food was made. Mixed feelings about that because it was cool that we got our food so fast but makes me wonder how long the food has been sitting behind the counter. Food (3/5) I got a couple of the Deluxe burgers and a cheeseburger. After unwrapping the burgers it was definitely wrapped very hastily. Sauce and lettuce were all over the place with a bit of grease on the bottom of the bun. It was okay for the price. Definitely reminded me of a backyard BBQ and a cafeteria burger. Definitely would recommend the Deluxe burger over the cheeseburger. I ate a couple of the Deluxe burgers and they were weirdly addicting to eat. The cheeseburger was definitely super dry. I think the only thing that sucked was that I couldn't add ketchup or anything because we would've had to pay for the extra ketchup. Overall Dicks was okay. Definitely just a mediocre fast food joint. I would come here again if I was ever in the area and needed a quick bite to eat on a budget. In my opinion, Dick's beats In N Out. Dick's is a Seattle thing and is definitely a must-try if you visit the Emerald City. It was founded in 1954 and they only accepted cash (the old-fashioned way!) until a few years ago when they finally kept up with the times and accepted credit/debit cards. They have five locations in Seattle and one in Edmonds. When I was a grad student in Seattle, I lived 0.3 miles away from the Wallingford location, and boy did I enjoy walking to Dick's for some burgers and fries when I stayed late at night to work on my dissertation (they close at 2 AM). My favorite is the Deluxe -- two 1/8-pound grilled patties with melted cheese, lettuce, mayonnaise and pickle relish. I usually get two more cheeseburgers and an order of their fries. Dick's takes pride in their fries which are 100% PNW potatoes and are hand-cut fresh daily. Their chocolate shake is super tasty too... 100% real ice cream, hand-dipped and individually whipped the old-fashioned way! You should check out this yummy goodness if you're ever in Seattle! Dick's is the best dirt cheap fast food burger joint in Seattle. My standard order is 1 Cheeseburger, 1 Delux, 2 Fries. Depending on my sobriety at the moment, I might get an extra Delux ;-) You get what's on the menu. No special ordering or requests. Want extra ketchup or onions? You can buy an extra little plastic container full of it and put it on yourself. Want an un-toasted bun? Go F yourself. You do not deserve Dick's. Take that nonsense to McDonald's. This is one of the busier locations I've been to in Seattle and the staff does an excellent job managing the constant business. The most impressive day was when I was on my way to a potluck, had no time to make a dish, so I stopped by for 15 cheeseburgers. The cashier hardly bat an eye at my order, and literally one minute later I was walking away with 15 cheeseburgers in my hand. (Side note: I would definitely recommend bringing Dick's to your next potluck. It was a big hit!) It's a busy neighborhood so it's not terribly surprising that there are usually a few homeless folks hanging around. They usually keep to themselves and are just looking to score a buck or a burger, and frankly if the presence of a homeless person in Seattle bothers you that much, you should probably steer clear of the city in general. A few years back there was an incident while I was in line where one of the street folk was getting extremely vocal with some blatantly racist nonsense, and the staff did swiftly speak up to yell at him to GTFO. read more

I love dicks, The drive up order out is part of the flavor of Dicks, The hamburgers a great but no special orders, The fries I love but some people hate them. They are different. I hear they are cooked in peanut oil so could be a problem for some people. I enjoy their shakes when I get one. I've been going to Dick's since I moved to Seattle in the late 70's. After a night of drinking, we use to all go to the one in Wallingford. Fast service and good food. Now that I live on the other side of the Cascades, I rarely get a chance to eat there. Last Sunday I was in town, so I stopped at one of their newest locations, Kent. I know it has a Kent address, but I think of that area more Des Moines/Federal Way. Close to Seatac Airport too. I love how fast you can get the food. Typically, they always have several windows open to place your order. Just be ready and give your order to the cashier. I always order a Deluxe (Burger), fry and strawberry shake. Is it the best burger ever? No, but it is pretty darn good. Lots of flavor and certainly not dry as someone here noted. Fries are hand cut potatoes and the shakes are made from real ice cream. I'm from La so we have In n out which is a staple quality burger spot for us. I was told dicks is the in n out of Seattle so this was my first stop when I came to visit for the first time. I ordered the special with fries and I must say it was amazing. Everything about the burger was delicious. The cheese was oozing and sticking to the wrapper. The beef was nice and juicy. The fries were a mixture of soggy and crispy which I love. How does it compare to in n out? It doesnt. But it's good in it's own right. As with many things in life, there's a time and a place for this burger joint. For most folks, that happens between the hours of midnight and 2 AM. Whether the occasion is to celebrate the recent ingestion of libations, following a long night of studying or just because you feel like clogging your arteries a bit it's hard to go wrong with a burger from Dick's. The deluxe burger just hard to beat and is basically a greasy spoon burger with garden accompaniments. It really does hit the spot at about 1 o'clock in the morning though. The fries here are dichotomous savants. Like an Olympic athlete who is also an eating champion, these fries are simultaneously crunchy and a bit soggy. They've also got the perfect amount of salt on them, making for a lethal 1, 2 punch on your taste buds. Top all this off with a chocolate shake and you've got yourself a great night in which you turned it potentially poor decision into a beautiful tapestry of salty carbs! read more
