Let's get one thing straight. Please do not compare Dicks to In & Out or any other burger joint. Since we got that out of the way, Dicks Drive-In is legit! There's always a line. It moves fast. Burgers range between 2-3$ and condiments can be purchased for 5 cents and is served on the side. Dick's Drive-In is generally one of the spots I take all out of town guests as we venture Capitol Hill and get our drank on. And we have a great time EVERY SINGLE TIME. Dick's Drive-In is a Seattle staple and I find the location on Capitol Hill is the most entertaining. Where else can you feed 4 people for under 10$? People watching here and the surrounding blocks is entertaining and worth the trip (don't mind the homeless, they're harmless for the most part). read more

I remember hanging out here late at night with my friends and from the looks of it on the rare instance I am down here on a Friday or Saturday night, nothing's changed. Their fries are amazing! They were gone in less than 3 blocks length, so I had to eat my burger without them after I got home. I finally came here last night. There was a huge line, but it took less than 10 minutes to get to the cashier. Remember- cash only!! I realized that halfway down the line and decided to just leave and get some other take out. Luckily I stumbled on my bank just at the corner of Broadway and went back. There is also ATM just on the side from them. The crowd that late at night consisted of still intoxicated, but friendly folks. The guy that was in front of me in line was really happy to see my coming back. And I am glad I did! I've always thought there was something questionable about the Dick's on Broadway in Capitol Hill. I see a lot of homeless people and police officers standing around here for some reason, and that has made me think that something is going on here that I'm better off avoiding. But my job takes me to around the area now, so I thought I might as well come here on my dinner breaks. And now I'm not suspicious of the place anymore! The volume of customers seems to vary tremendously depending on the time of day. I've driven by the place in early afternoons when the lines were completely empty. And during the late evenings just a few hours before the store closes, the lines can easily get packed with fifty people. I've heard that Dick's burgers are a good hangover cure; maybe that's the reason. Anyway, the food is more or less the same as what you get at all the other locations. That means it's generally good and cheap. The Deluxes at just under three dollars are full of this delicious mayonnaise that I can't get enough of. Their shakes also cost a little over two dollars under tax, and I absolutely love them because the amount of beverage in them is surprisingly plentiful and lasts a while if sipped through a straw. The fries are soggy and overly salted. I'm ashamed to say that I'm addicted to them nevertheless. Actually, I could probably say the same thing about all the food here. Burgers, fries, and ice cream. I had ordered some food from this dicks location and the fact that when I went to eat my food, my fries were not fresh. I had opened my burgers and they all had wilted and rotten lettuce and as soon as I started to eat my food I felt sick to my stomach and threw up. Dick's is a Seattle institution and you can't say you've visited this city without eating one drunken meal here. It's no Shake Shack or In n Out but it they do make cheap, tasty old fashioned hamburgers, fries, and shakes. I think it's definitely worth the hype and long lines on weekend nights. Parking may be a little tough to find but most patrons are in and out pretty quick so it shouldn't be too difficult. The menu is very simple and there are only 5 max items you can choose from. I usually get the cheeseburger and fries and occasionally get the shake (which is great to dip the fries in). The fries are natural cut with a bit of skin on them, just the way I like them. So I just moved here a month ago from Austin Texas where our burger joint of choice was What A Burger. In Seattle they have Dick's. And just like What A Burger it gets much better the later in the evening you get it! Dick's is very cheap burgers and fries that will not disappoint. You can easily walk away with a few burgers and fries for under $10. I always go with two deluxe's and three fries. I have yet to try the shakes here but the soda here tastes slightly better due to the crushed ice they use. I love crushed ice! Obviously it doesn't enhance the soda, I was kidding about that but I personally enjoy it more due to this fact. the service here is always on par and you can tell the employees here enjoy what they are doing. I was a little stoned a little drunk and really looking forward to (quote) "the best burgers in Seattle" (unquote)....but even with the deck stacked so decidedly in their favor, Dick's is no In and Out Burger. I only lived in SoCal for a few years and by default always lived around the corner form an In and Out. Sure, Dicks is good, but it just can't compete. Lucky for them In and Out isn't as pervasive in the Northwest as it is in the Southwest. Minus one star for all the "Dick's" jokes from Seattle-ites. "Mmmmm...that is a tasty burger" To the uninitiated, Dick's is a drive-in style fast food burger joint, which specializes in the absolutely cheapest, greasiest and just plain tasty food. Don't come here expecting In N Out burger or Five Guys, because you are NOT getting that here. Instead, you get pre-set burgers (can't specialize anything), employees that fit the restaurant's name, and limited seating. Dick's Special is a pretty decent cheap burger, having special sauce and being roughly comparable to a poor man's version of the Big Mac. The patty is decent sized, and for the 1.50 or so you spend on it, you get your money's worth. The french fries are pretty good too, but limp. Shakes are thick and tasty, and cheap like everything else. What do I not like about Dick's? They don't accept credit/debit cards...come on, it's the '10s already. Just about everyone has, uses and accepts at the very least VISA. Don't be one of 'those' businesses that people avoid because they don't carry much cash anymore. I also can't tell you how many times I've been given a frown, and the absolutely most pathetic service I have ever received. Come on...at least acknowledge my existence, and say something besides my total. You make the people who work at Wal-Mart look like angels in comparison! But whatever, it's cheap burgers. They're tasty enough, but not the end-all, be-all thing in Seattle. Go to Burgerville in Portland if you want a really good burger in the Pacific Northwest. read more

Definitely a place to visit when you're craving something unhealthy and greasy in the dead of night. It's a no-frills burger joint - you walk up to the window, place your order, then eat standing up or in your car or wherever you can find a place to squat. They have simple burgers, and fries with the skin still on them (always a plus in my book!). I didn't try the burger, but my friends told me they're about Sonic's quality. Love this place I'm born and raised in Seattle and I know that when you want a good quick cheese burger and hand cut fry's with ketchup and tater sauce to go to dicks. I am extremely impressed with this place. Easily trumps both Five Guys and In-N-Out. The burgers here are definitely of the pre-prepared and wrapped variety, like you'd find in old school ball parks and such. But don't let that deter you, these are damn good! Ate here because it had good reviews and was compared to in n out. Let me just start off with ...... this is nothing like in n out lol. Me and my boyfriend were visiting from California and decided to give this place a shot since we're not from this area and it was the only thing open late at the time. Service was fast and great! But the size of the burgers was crazy small, we both had the deluxe burgers and beside the burger being small we did not like the sauce/dressing they put on their burgers. It was weird, it gave a pumpkin like taste. The drinks were also small but not a big deal. BUT I will say the French fries were delicious they were nice and crisp and tasted very fresh! I'll change this back to 5 stars as soon as they get rid of the sketchy, weird, rude security guards they've hired. I've been going there for 30+ years and have never had a problem, until last night. One of them barked an order at me to go move my motorcycle to a parking spot. I'd been parking it near the doors, tucked into a spot where nobody walks, in front of a parking space for years. I do this for convenience but also to save them a parking spot. All the guy had to do was ask nicely, instead of try and order me around. The dude walks around with handcuffs dangling from his belt. They don't seem to stick to any consistent uniform or dress code even. None of them seem to know how to act. You'll see them hanging out in their cars, on their phones, etc. They get belligerent, defensive, and can't control their tempers. It's obvious they haven't had any proper training. Overall: Burgers are alright, atmosphere was something different and the customer service was great. Atmosphere: It's a drive in. There is no inside place. You order outside and you eat outside. We came in December so it was cold and raining, but coming in the summer is probably much better. There is no seats, but there is a little counter. This is more of a grab and go type of deal. Food: I wasn't impressed with the burgers. They were made very fast and they are on the cheaper side, however they are pretty small. When we got them the lettuce was all soggy. They have their own signature sauce, and I wasn't feeling that either, it had a very strong hint of cinnamon. You could tell that the burgers were not fresh and the fries were all soggy as well. We got the chocolate milkshake, and it was nothing impressive. Service/staff: The lady at the counter was very friendly and nice. Their menu is short & simple as it is directed to the after hour crowd from bars & clubs (open til 2am). The service is quick, quickier than a McDonalds in fact! Their fries are shoe string so if you want fatties or something thicker you best go somewhere else. Their shakes are to die for.
